14 Best Bars in Savannah

"AJ's practically begs you to relax, smell the saltwater, and gaze at Tybee Creek and the Atlantic Ocean. Channeling the Florida Keys with bright umbrellas, walls, decking, and tables, the bar has unbeatable views and an only-in-Savannah vibe. Drinks are tropical and in the summer this is a tourist spot, bringing visitors in tank tops and sunburns." - Barbara Skidmore

We made reservations but went early and they were able to seat us. It was a stormy day so the outside patio wasn’t set up for eating but you could still go out and enjoy the scenery. It’s a fun beach vibe with dive flags hung up! We got the calamari and Buffalo shrimp for appetizers. The shrimp was amazing! The right amount of heat and not super breaded. It was the best we had on Tybee. Calamari was good but with a different dipping sauce would be better. The gumbo didn’t have enough flavor but wasn’t terrible. We took desserts to go and the strawberry shortcake and carrot cake were both good! The parking area is small but they do have additional parking a short walk away! Just read the signs to find it.

Made reservations and was able to enjoy the sunset with amazing food. I had the blackened Mahi with crab Cajun sauce very delicious. My fiance had steak with bleu cheese crumbles.

Google
Definitely one of the best seafood places on Tybee Island. Food was amazing, drinks were even better and the service was awesome. Our waitress was out of this world helpful and friendly and the food came out surprisingly quick. The only downside we ran into was, that while nothing was posted about clothing restrictions or dress code, we were almost turned away at the door by the hostess because my companion was wearing a swimsuit top and shorts. We were informed that a t-shirt was required, so we opted to buy a shirt from the selection of souvenirs by the front door. This was a little disappointing, as I did notice other patrons with similar attire once we were seated, and the lack of posted notice of dress code or anything listed online in that regard. Overall an awesome experience, just be prepared to change clothes if you're coming fresh off the beach.

Google
Good food. Happy nice employees. Great people. Really Nice Location. Beautiful view of deck. AND ESPECIALLY THANK YOU TO THE YOUNG WOMAN WHO CRAWLED UNDER THE DECK TO RETRIEVE LOST MONEY.

Google
Our server was awesome! Attentive, understanding, quick to answer all of our questions about the food and the area! He was also super chill with our 9 month old Isaac (even when the baby started getting a lil grumpy toward bedtime) My husband and I were able to walk to it from our room and it was well worth every penny! The food and drinks were phenomenal! You go to the beach to get seafood and it was bangin! I got the Calamari with a marinara sauce with some of the blackened shrimp n grits. My husband got a huge platter of seafood (dockside platter) and isaac stole some of his French fries. We came in with a stroller after our evening walk worried about space and everyone was so kind to us, the servers and guest were all so friendly. We were pretty early around 5or so but the seats filled up fast, they have a lovely view outside on the wooded balcony overlooking the water but we stayed inside with ac for lil man. You def need a reservation! Highly recommend!!

Google
We are local to Savannah and love going out to Tybee, as I grew up there as a kid. I wanted a place where we could wait out the storm and have some dinner. My fiancé had the bacon burger. Our son had the chicken finger dinner, and I had the boiled shrimp with a side of blue crab stew. We also had conch fritters & sweet potato waffle fries to start, and strawberry shortcake for dessert. We left SO happy! The staff, the location, the decor, the vibe, the view (even with the storm) and the food were all 10 out of 10. Also, the fresh watermelon margarita was the best margarita my fiancé has had in his life! Thank you guys for a great time ❤️ We cannot wait to come back!

Google
Went on a Thursday right at 5, were seated right away, ate, and had check paid by 5:45! Sat outside under awning and enjoyed the view. I ordered gumbo, husband had calamari and fried oyster po boy sandwich which he really enjoyed. I wish I’d ordered fried shrimp and hush puppies bc they looked so good - but that just gives another chance to visit again.

Google
This is our favorite place to eat dinner. Beautiful views and beautiful sunset views. The food and drinks are excellent. Great, nice and knowledgeable staff. And the live music (one man on acoustic guitar) on the weekends is the perfect touch.

Yelp
Our first meal on Tybee......definitely a good place to start. An early afternoon t-storm drove everyone on the island to AJ's & the same storm drove all the outdoor diners under the awnings & inside out of the storm. Overall everyone was happy & fed through it all. The spicy Bloody Mary was incredible!! They will take you seriously if you ask for "extra" spicy. 8P A couple of apps & some shrimp salad po-boy's were next & did not disappoint. Bar & Waitstaff were all very good.

Yelp
Tasty, expensive, good service. I had hoped when I went that I could sit outside in hopes of watching the sunset. They seemed to bristle at that, as I was a single person dining alone, hemmed and hawed, and as a polite-people-pleaser often to my own discomfort...I just said seating wherever would be fine. The seafood is certainly fresh, and everything comes out as it is cooked so if you are with a big group entrees may come in waves. Deal with it, lol. I got the crab cakes, which had big chunks of crab god bless, with my sides being mashed potatoes and a seaweed salad (and surprise hushpuppies too). Everything was fresh and tasty, and my watermelon margarita was a great compliment to the meal. I was seated right next to the stage and had just gotten my food when the live music started. That was not ideal and loud and while the small child dancing and spinning around might have been cute for others, I got thwapped a few times by tiny sticky hands. If I'd known the music was going to start while I was there, I would have asked to be seated somewhere a bit further away. The parking lot is also very limited and tiny, so be aware of that if you are driving in. I walked from my airbnb so I didn't have an issue with that. The meal was good and I think I would have a better time if I came with another person. But it was pretty alright.

Yelp
Great, super casual place on the water. The vibes were great. The hush puppies and fried green tomatoes were delicious! Service was also really great.

Yelp
We are so happy we found AJ's! First, be advised the parking by the restaurant has very few spaces, but there is a larger lot across and down the street. I ordered grilled Mahi with fresh vegetables and their incredible crispy sweet potato waffle fries! My meal was delicious as was my hubby's, the ribeye with shrimp. He said it was an excellent cut and he was so pleased with his choice. We sat outside on the pier and were asked to not feed the birds walking around our feet, hoping for a dropped hush puppy! Our server Marina was friendly and helpful with the menu, and checked on us often to refill our drinks. We highly recommend AJ's when you're visiting Tybee!

Yelp
Food was decent, ate there two nights in a row before I figured out the drinks are watered down. I'm not a big drinker, but after three vodka drinks you think one would catch a buz. At little steep for my blood. Or maybe they just target people that are not locals.
google avatar

Yelp
Great spot and the love music was very nice. The food was mediocre at best. The clam stew had so many pieces of shells in it that it was impossible to enjoy. I was constantly picking pieces out of my mouth- I think it would have been excellent if i'd been able to eat it. The pasta was flavorless but my husband said the salmon was good
google avatar

Jenn S.

Yelp
I was dining alone and sat at the bar. From the bar, you miss the sunset, but I did catch most of it on my way in- beautiful spot to see it. It should also be noted that while there was live music, it can't be heard from the bar. That said, the bartender was attentive and answered questions about the menu. The food was typical beachy bar food. There were a lot of fried items on the menu which I normally steer clear of. I got the crab cake sandwich. The roll was fresh, the crab cake was fine but I've had better. Side of coleslaw was good, not overly mayo-y. Limoncello cake was ok but was probably frozen from a box. Overall, A-J's is pretty average. Nothing was bad, but there's no wow factor either. Still, it's worth a visit to dine with the sunset view.

Yelp
We were a group of four today. Our friends have been visiting here a couple of times a year, but this was our first time on the island and our first time at A-J's. First what a nice outside deck! If not too hot make sure you go outside. Food: Yum. I had the blackened chicken strips, hushpuppies, and fries. The wifey had Caesar Salad. I liked my blackened chicken and so did my buddy, who allowed a small try. The wifey liked her salad a lot. Like how they put a nice amount of cheese on it. My buddy has chicken of his own. But just plain strip. Again he liked them. His wifey had Caprese Salad and with not trying to sound like a broken record, she said it was also good. As for service: we opened the place at 12:00 noon. So I'm guessing everything was not fully set up. Three of the meals came out timely but one came out about 5 minutes later and still waited another 4-5 minutes for the fries. It wasn't a big deal but needed mentioned. Our server was a very friendly young lady. She was attentive and did a good job. So I'd visit and eat here again. Nothing spectacular but good and worth your time.

Yelp
I stopped for a drink and dessert to enjoy the view. The view was beautiful. The dessert was not. I ordered their homemade keylime pie. When it came at first glance I thought it might be pumpkin pie. It looked more brown than yellow. It was the shortest key lime pie I ever saw. And what was the red stuff all over the plate? Their attempt to sauce the dessert was a miss. The sauce design was a mess. I could not tell if the sauce was strawberry or cherry? It made the tasteless key lime pie even more bland. The sauce was everywhere on the plate so I tried to eat the filling without the graham cracker crust to avoid the sauce all over the plate. The filling just tasted old and tired. I could not finish it.

Yelp
I cannot review the food only the service at the front. At 6:30 on Saturday I called ahead and asked how long the wait was. They said "No wait right now but can't guarantee it." So me, my wife and my little girl hopped in the car and zoomed over. We parked off the street and walked in about 6:50. My little girl was so excited and they greeted us warmly. We asked for a table and they said it would be 45 minutes. The restaurant closes at 9 so by the time we could sit it would be close to 8 pm. Our 2 year old is usually asleep by then. They offered for us to do takeout as a kind gesture. But we politely declined. It was a regrettable decision not to make reservations and trust the host. I will never forget our disappointment on our 10th wedding anniversary. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Emily B.

Yelp
We came in June. We weren't impressed. We asked to sit outside, not realizing there were no umbrellas or shade whatsoever. In June? Heck no lol so we asked to move inside. Place feels pretty run down. We got several drinks, they were good. Food was not good. We got mahi sandwiches and it tasted like they took a piece of frozen mahi and stuck it on a grill. No seasoning or flavor at all.. and it was still cold somehow.

Yelp
GREAT SUNSET VIEWS, FOOD, AND SERVICE No reservations. Come early to get a seat during high season! This is my goto place on Tybee when I have guests. They have the best ahi tuna. Perfectly seated. Nice thick slices. I get this every time I come. I'm usually not a hush puppy fan, but the ones here are addictive! Not greasy. Just pure breaded deliciousness! I've had the best she crap soup ever here. It was cooked Perfectly. The texture in your mouth was like velvet. Chunks of crab. I'll definitely get thus anany time it's on the menu. The beers are ice cold. Just a great chill vibe!

Yelp
Not certain it was worth the 40 min Fri night wait :) But it was certainly a v v cool lively delish Tybee Island pad. Dug the v energetic atmosphere; Too popular, perfect locale. The drinks are bit lite on the.. But expected :) Got every known beer, on the bottle The oysters were perfect, delicately fried, juicy rare on the inside, yummmmmm; Fried scallops rox. We never had issue w service ; all good and quite energetic. Make sure to make reservations if want to sit outside overlooking the gorgeous Atlantic Ocean view. Def recommend.
google avatar

Anthony B.

Yelp
I had the fried shrimp platter which was great. Daughter had the chicken tenders. Wife had the gumbo which she didn't like. Food was a little cold when it arrived.
google avatar

Margaret C.

Yelp
Great place! We stopped by there Saturday night for dinner. We got take out and sat at the bar to wait. The 2 bartenders were awesome! Very funny and helpful! Will definitely come back when we are there in a few weeks. It was delicious! The ambiance was great and relaxing. Looking forward to eating in next time. Definitely a go to in Tybee!!!
google avatar

Jeana T.

Yelp
Just two of use, but We went on a Saturday about 3:30 pm. No wait! Our waitress was fun and upbeat! Food was fresh and hot and timely! We sat outside to overlook the waterfront, and it was warm, but we sat in the shade with fans going, so it was perfect!
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
The food here is amazing. The grilled and blackened shrimp are fresh and so delicious. The chill atmosphere, love music, and views of the back river at sunset are the best on Tybee. As an Army veteran, I also appreciated the big U.S. flag inside, however I did not care for all the political messages on the walls. Patriotism isn't political.

Shelby E.

Yelp
When you first walk in the restaurant isn't very appealing but I was pleasantly surprised with the food
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
We go to AJ's frequently and it doesn't disappoint. The scallops are an all time favorite. The service is always great.
google avatar

Kim H.

Yelp
I was really debating on doing a review of AJ's, but considering the image in this grandmother's mind,I decided that I would. My 8 year old grandson wanted to get a bite to eat so we decided to go there. Not ideal for him to go shirtless, I decided being a beach town "why not " When we got there, they said he had to have a shirt on in order to go in and eat. I truly understood!! We went and got a shirt, came back and spent $130 ish on food and tip.walking out we ran into a dozen young girls in bikinis.... That just didn't set to good with me.
google avatar

Betsy S.

Yelp
The service was friendly and helpful and put up with us! Loved the music. The food was varied and well prepared. Of course the view was unparalleled. A magical evening.

Dylan M.

Yelp
the waiters were so rude to my grandparent! They talked about them to other people! They need to be more nice to older people and respect them!
google avatar

Mary Belle G.

Yelp
Great place to get drinks! Great service and ambiance as a fun place to grab a drink at sunset, but would not eat here again. All fried food was soggy, but the crab soup did have tons of crab! Soup still lacked flavor though and was served cold. Great views!
google avatar

courtlin l.

Yelp
I love this place. Everytime I have been it has always been delicious. You sit outside on the water and the view is just wonderful. Our server was also great, he saved my little sister from a wasp with his bare hand! He made the food sound delicious, which obviously it is, but he really sold it well. He was also just fun and nice to talk to. Cool guy. The cat outside is very sweet and friendly. The key lime pie was absolutely amazing. Dont even get me started on the ahi tuna, it's so fresh and well seasoned. Phenomenal. My entree was something I had never tried before, the server sold me on it, it was the special of the day. It was amazing. Highly recommend this place.

Shelley W.

Yelp
Such a great atmosphere! So chill and great crab stew- WOW!! I had She Crab soup at another place on Tybee- No comparison
google avatar

Daphne P.

Yelp
We had a very delightful dinner at this restaurant tonight. We were greeted at the door by a very cheery person and seated. Our waitstaff, whose name is Amy, greeted us immediately. The food was great. I had the Ahi tuna. At some point Amy, anther staff person, my husband, and I had a fun chat! It is really nice to be able to just chat. I know many restaurant workers and customers don't have the luxury of chatting. But tonight we had the luxury. Thank you Amy and her co-worker. Just a nice all around atmosphere as well.
google avatar

Jim S.

Yelp
We enjoyed our anniversary dinner here my bride had gumbo and I had flounder filets. The service was excellent and the live entertainment perfect. The guy was solo with a guitar and he somehow sang the entire time we were there. And specifically every song that had meaning for us through our 41 years of marriage. Excellence squared. Will be back.

Brad C.

Yelp
Cool little place but food was average. Service was quick & pleasant. Drinks were excellent though.
google avatar

Violet L.

Yelp
Fried chicken wings is too salty, conch fritters was burned, crab cakes sandwiches was good, white wine filled up to the brim which is awesome! Services were very helpful! Outdoor setting was better than indoor. It was dark to read the menu , a table lamps were be nicer.

Janice M.

Yelp
Dirty, and food not very good. Shrimp not good. Crab cakes close to burned. Sweet potato wedges not good. I believe they haven't changed to frying grease in a long time.
google avatar

Jen K.

Yelp
We were so excited to finally try this place after several recommendations, but we're extremely disappointed. My niece's grilled cheese came out completely burnt on one side, the blackened chicken that I ordered was blacked with bits of char-not the seasoning, the creamed spinach had no spinach, and everyone's food came out room temperature. The highlight of the night was seeing a very classy lady at the bar flash the bartender and bar guests her b**bs...a great family establishment!
google avatar

Nathan B.

Yelp
We ended up coming here after a day at the beach and it was definitely a good choice. Reservations are recommended, it does get busy. The atmosphere was friendly and we had front row seats under the awning for the evening's entertainment. Travis, our server, was the top notch and made excellent suggestions. The seafood was delicious and as fresh as one could get on the island. If you're on Tybee you definitely need to make this place a stop. If not for the great food and drinks the view of the sunset is top notch.
google avatar

Julie C.

Yelp
If I could leave zero, I would. I have always been told, "when you go to Tybee, you gotta go to AJ's", but I was sorely disappointed. Now granted, it was men telling me, so maybe it's a common occurrence for a woman to flash the bar?! Meanwhile the bartender was acknowledging repeatedly "oh she does it all the time", so I guess it is. I hoped the food and drinks would make up for the atmosphere, but it didn't. My pineapple based drink arrived tasting like grapefruit, and when I advised the mediocre waitress, she shrugged her shoulders and said "okay". The salmon I had ordered for my meal was WAY overcooked and arrived cold. So to all of you looking for a new go-to restaurant in Tybee, you may want to look somewhere else.
google avatar

Steven B.

Yelp
Great coffee, service, service, ambiance, location. Prices aren't bad either. I don't know why Yelp puts a character limit on these things how many words do you need to say it's a great place. I mean it's a bit ridiculous. lol.

Chris B.

Yelp
My family came here Saturday 5/10 for Mother's Day dinner. We had appetizers & entrees. The three of us became violently ill vomiting and diarrhea all night through the next day. I called AJ's as soon as they opened Sunday at noon. The women who answered asked what I wanted them to do. I asked to speak to a manager about refunding the food portion of our bill. She took my name and number and stated "We might call you back". No one did. Never dining at AJ's again. Disgusting!!!
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
This is a must visit place to go when you're on the island. It is basically reservations only, wake up early the day you want to eat here, call and leave a voicemail, don't even brush your teeth. Call and get on the list. The dockside platter is a great place to get started, fried fish, and then shrimp and scallops either grilled, fried or blackened. Try to get a seat at the coveted covered patio just in case a rainstorm shows up. Make sure you put this on the list to eat each time you come to the island
google avatar

Dan S.

Yelp
3 1/2 stars for AJs. The atmosphere was ok however we sat inside because of the heat. The fish was good however the sides sucked. The potato salad was vinegar based and not good at all, too much vinegar. The hush puppies were slightly overcooked but edible. The service was ok, not great..Not sure I'd go back..

Timothy R.

Yelp
This is a great restaurant if you're looking for a beautiful sunset and terrific views. If you're looking for really great food, not so much. Group of 6. Blackened grouper, gumbo, scallops, shrimp and french fries were ok, but not equal to the view or cost. Service was great.

Betsy H.

Yelp
Pretty location to watch the sunset and the service was great. But the food was mediocre at best at pricey. We had the crab cake burger, which tasted like a frozen patty, and gumbo, which wasn't good.
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
We had the burgers and a salad. Very good and on par price wise with the other local restaurants
google avatar

Sam W.

Yelp
the service was great very attentive. Great decor it's very beachy and clean I like how the server/bartender Travis was very personable and knew what we needed without much of a wait. Although the place was full it was still spacious. However the food was good depending on what you get the breading on the seafood wasn't the best, but if you got the burger or the pasta it was great just not the fried seafood.Overall all it earns 5 stars

Red Rifle 7.

Yelp
Highly recommend making a reservation on the weekend. I got right in and was seated where I requested. Service was a little slow at first - I think they are severely understaffed. However, my server was very polite and attentive once she realized she had my table. Can't beat the view at sunset!
google avatar

Belinda M.

Yelp
Waited over 1 1/2 hours for the most pathetic salad I've ever had. 6 overcooked scrawny shrimp on floppy gritty lettuce with cheap bottled dressing... Don't deviate from the deep fried food, it's all this place can handle. And they forgot my sister-in-law's order altogether! Third time I've eaten here in 5 years, each time worse. Nice setting on water is only positive about this place. Much better food and service on the island, don't bother with AJ's...
google avatar

Pam W.

Yelp
We've been here maybe 15 times in last 11 years since coming to Tybee. Sadly this maybe our last. Food was just average. My sea flounder was cooked way to hard my husbands mahi mahi was good. But out potatoes were cold and the hushpuppies were just blah. We love going and watching the sunset. I think our future here will just be for a drink and a view. Not dinner.

Yelp
A-J's Dockside Restaurant 1315 Chatham Ave, Tybee Island GA 31328 August 14, 2022 Saturday - 5:10 PM for Dinner 4 Adults Atmosphere - 4 stars Food - 3 stars Service - 4 stars Background - It is my daughter and boyfriends two year anniversary, he wanted to come here. He wanted me to suggest it to her, so it looked like it was my idea, still not sure why. Atmosphere - Tropical vibe for sure. Is it really dockside, when you sit on the dock for dinner? Humid outside, but what do you expect. Umbrellas at all the outside tables but someone will loose that battle and be in direct sunlight. Food Beer - There is no good beer list available, so it is the guessing game. I saw the sign for G13, nope don't have it. Then the bartenders suggested about of alright IPAs. I went with the Sweetwater 420, an American Pale Ale. Appetizer - Spinach and artichoke dip, I would not order again. Not a fan of the dip, and you could tell the chips sat in the humidity way too long. Dinner - I had the Mahi-Mahi, you can order it grilled or blackened. I had it grilled. It was good well but it was bland. The hush puppies, had large pieces of corn in them. Again they were bland. Service - Thought it was strange the sign says they do not open till 5, reservation at 5:10. The bar was already full while waiting for our table. Our waitress was good, nothing to complain about. Future - Distance from me will make that tough.

Robert H.

Yelp
Reservations and a rude manager Made a reservation and asked to be under the canopy outside. So we got a table all the way out on the deck with one table umbrella for 12 people. I'll never recommend it to anyone
google avatar

Ashley L.

Yelp
Blackened shrimp had zero seasoning and was completely burnt. Hush puppies were cold. Would not recommend. Blackened shrimp does not mean burnt!

Matt S.

Yelp
A stressful and unexpected trip to Tybee had slipped into a sultry summer evening. Our ragtag group yearned for an oasis to fill our bellies and lift our spirits. The well recommended A-J's could have provided that respite, but sadly this was not to be. Upon arriving we were led into a warm and claustrophobic dining area, flanked on one side by rowdy bar patrons and the other by the door leading to the outer deck. The constant traffic through which prevented any air conditioning from being effective. Our drinks left much to be desired. The primary desire being alcohol, of which there was little. And taste, of which there was less. Irony given that most of the bar patrons seemed well oiled while shouting at the Braves game on the TV. The food could best be described as hopeless. My fried shrimp po' boy arrived lukewarm and covered in cold french fries. Upon rearranging the fries did I discover the constituent parts of a sandwich that I then had to construct myself. My nieces grilled cheese looked as though it had been dropped from a space station and been charred by the ever thickening atmosphere as it hurtled towards her plate. The rest of the food at the table looked as though it had been overcooked and plated in haste, only to be left to go tepid as we waited. It seems this place cannot decide whether it wants to be restaurant with a beautiful view and quirky ambiance, or a watering hole for the locals. And as it was the only meal I was able to have during my trip to Tybee, I was left immeasurably disappointed.

Yelp
ECOAlert. They are tossing drink contents into the water. Polution of waterways is against the EPA laws Disgusting. Started off with the rum punch being all wrong. The conch fritters were over cooked and tough. The shrimp and grits app was ok. Spicy but appropriate. Two on our part ordered the Cajun red snapper. They brought it to the table the blonde man told us it was trout. He went as far as telling us that snapper and trout is the same. Deviled crab cakes were almost no crab overcooked dry served with ice cold hush puppies. I was told hush puppies are served room temp - they were ice cold. The mashed potatoes were ok. My son who loves fish couldn't eat the scallops due to them being touch. The "trout" was fishy as the topper was not right. If they are affiliated with the one in Destin, they have failed them miserably
