DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!
I would like to start off by saying that all the staff we encountered at A La Carte were wonderful and I believe they did everything they could to ensure we had a lovely stay. The hotel itself is a bit dated and could definitely use a refresh, but overall it’s clean and the pool, gym, sauna and spa are great.
Unfortunately, I have to base my review on the fact that A La Carte fails to provide the most basic requirement of a hotel: a quiet place to sleep.
There are beach clubs directly across the road that blast incredibly loud music late into the night. We initially checked into an Ocean View Apartment and I honestly couldn’t believe how loud it was. It was impossible to think, let alone sleep. The bass was so intense that the springs in the bed were literally vibrating. This room was on the 17th floor, so I can’t even imagine how much worse it would be on the lower levels.
I had read a few reviews mentioning the noise, but I’m not a light sleeper and figured it would be manageable. Never in a million years did I expect it to be that bad.
To their credit, the hotel moved us to a One Bedroom Apartment at the back of the building on the 21st floor. While it was an improvement, our sleep was still disturbed. Even with earplugs in, my husband could hear the music. Unfortunately, we were unable to change hotels and over the two weeks we were there, we only had two decent nights of sleep (both times it was raining and the beach clubs didn’t operate).
I understand that the hotel has spoken to local authorities, but if the situation remains unresolved, they need to take action themselves. As a priority, A La Carte must improve their soundproofing; whether it’s better window glazing, secondary window inserts, acoustic curtains, or all of the above.
To make matters worse, we were told there would be no refund for the first week when we moved from the Ocean View Apartment to a regular One Bedroom Apartment, because it was “our choice” to move (as if we had any other option?!) That policy needs to change. Guests should be compensated in situations like this. Quite frankly, it’s unacceptable that A La Carte charge more for the Ocean View Apartments when they are clearly the worst-positioned rooms in the building.
I feel compelled to warn fellow travelers against staying at this hotel.
