7 Must-Try Sandwiches for Your Next Trip to Portugal

"A Lisbon eatery where pataniscas de bacalhau are a house specialty—small fried cod cakes made from shredded fish, onion, garlic and parsley bound in a batter (sometimes with beer) and served tucked into bread for a crunchy, savory sandwich option." - Stacey Leasca

Finally found a local gem after avoiding all the tourist traps! I was struggling to find an authentic local spot since this area is full of tourist restaurants, but I’m so glad I discovered this place! The food was absolutely incredible - authentic flavors and such generous portions I could barely move afterward. Everything tasted genuine and fresh, not like the watered down tourist food everywhere else. The staff was amazing too so friendly and welcoming, they made us feel like family. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers and take pride in what they serve.

I’m rating the restraint, not the hotel. This place is really popular. It’s better to have a reservation. We had the clams, the prawns and the sardines. We love all the seafood but the prawns were the best. The dishes came with salad and flavored rice. The rice went really well with the sauce from the prawns dish. We would love to go back again.

Cozy little restaurant which has dates decor adding to its charm. It's tucked away from the main hustle and bustle. You have to wait in line, we went at peak lunch and waited about 30mins. Once we were seated and ordered, the food and drink came quickly. We ordered the clams, octopus salad and the pork. The seafood was fresh and flavourful. Would recommend. Card accepted. Overall a great atmosphere and experience.

The soup is really good here! I don't think you would go wrong having a seafood soup! The main was not my favourite but also because I was in a bit of a rush to go to the airport! But the pork is well cooked and I wasn't a fan of the stuffing personally but the portions are generous and you can definitely find something authentic and enjoyable here

We had a wonderful traditional Portuguese meal here. It was inexpensive and seemed to cater to locals as well as those visitors looking to avoid the nearby tourist-oriented locations. The clams and sardines were excellent, along with the traditional Portuguese desserts.

Fresh flavors and local charm—Merendinha do Arco delivered. The grilled clams were tender with just the right garlic hit. Sea bass was smoky and perfectly cooked. Octopus rice was rich, comforting, and full of depth. A true Lisbon gem worth returning to.

BEST meal I’ve had this trip, strongly recommend coming here at least once in your life. The caldo verde was so flavourful, the codfish cakes were plump and tasty… but my favourite two were the grilled sardines and beans and rice. They were savoury and cooked to perfection, sooo delicious. The rice dish reminded me of home! If you’re around the area please come here - you won’t regret it.

Really wonderful experience of genuine local food. Great service, fresh ingredients, excellent menu, and everything cooked perfectly. A true Portuguese food experience in the heart of Lisbon. What else could you ask for?
