We came here three times during our vacation.
For context: I am Colombian and speak Spanish fluently as it is my first language. My wife is American and is practicing her Spanish, improving every day.
The first day we came was a Friday. I did all of the ordering, helped to pay, and interacted with Employee 1. She seemed very content interacting with other locals afterwards. The coffee was good, my sandwich was dry, but ultimately it was just breakfast, and we made it work.
That night, my wife went in and got another coffee from Employee 2, who was lovely. My wife asked her for help practicing her Spanish, and the lady at the counter was so kind and helpful.
The following day, Saturday, my wife went by herself because she felt confident after the good interactions we’d had the day before. Employee 1 was there again and recognized my wife! My wife ordered a cold brew coffee and two bagels with cream cheese. We’re still new to the currency, and she had two 20s, but each one was printed in a different color. My wife asked Employee 1 for clarity while making her order, only to receive the rude response: “You need to figure out your money.”
My wife apologized and told her she was uncomfortable and sorry, explaining that she was still learning and just needed help. All she wanted was a little guidance.
She also thought she had two 200-peso bills. Thinking she had dropped one, she asked, “Did I accidentally drop 200 pesos?” Before my wife could clarify, the lady snatched the bill from behind the counter and said, “This is mine, not yours,” again very rudely.
My wife sat and waited for her food, crying because of how much this lady had diminished her confidence. When the lady finally brought the food over, she only attempted to apologize after seeing my wife crying.
We’ve been here for a week and have not experienced a single ounce of disrespect like this anywhere else. I have no idea where it came from, and I don’t care if you were having a bad day or if you’re sorry. Understand that your mistreatment of people is seen, heard, and now noted.
Come here if you speak Spanish, understand the language, and know how the money works. But if you are from anywhere else in the world, are still learning, and are willing to try, it’s best to avoid this spot.
JUST BE NICE TO PEOPLE???? SHOW KINDNESS!!! How is that so hard?! HELP PEOPLE!
I tried to post this also in Spanish and unfortunately it’s too long for a review. So you’ll have to send it translate.
