A Room in the City - Hostel San Sebastian

Great little backpacker hostel. You get what you pay for. Secure rooms, friendly, informative staff, nice shared spaces like kitchen area, outside bar and rooftop. Also everything really clean. Don’t expect luxury , but for those looking for cheap functional digs with a nice vibe then this hostel is for you!

It's in an excellent location, but overall we thought this hostel was overpriced. We paid almost £500 for a small twin room over 4 nights. The room was very far from the kitchen, and the kitchen itself had no natural light. There was very little social atmosphere (we were there towards the end of September). The staff were friendly though.

In terms of cleanliness this hostel is without a doubt the best I have stayed in ever. Rooms are so clean and modern. Bunks are spacious and easy to enter. They are also very safe with excellent bracelet operated lockers and a door. The vibe of the hostel was quite antisocial, doesn’t seem like any events are organised but I could be wrong. The bar out front was lively but it felt like it was mostly people from outside the hostel there. My main gripe is 1) no laundry service. Not great if you’re staying multiple days. 2) very small and basic kitchen. 3) showers are dated and not pleasant. 4) beds and pillows are very uncomfortable, left with a sore neck!

Great value and well thought through hostel in a banging location just moments from the beach and old town. I usually travel a bit more luxuriously but was impressed by the little touches like fan in the room, earplugs, water and offer to change linens. We were situated in the separate location, presumably away from big group rooms, a private room for two with shared bathroom. Plenty of loos and showers, only ever saw one person in the bathroom area over a four night stay!

The rooms themselves were very nice, secure luggage lockers, big twin xl beds, curtains for privacy, etc. That being said, the bathrooms were not great. The showers were uncomfortable, and the sink faucet did not have hot water. It's a good stay for sleep purposes, but I wouldn't want to be there very long. It was also really expensive for a hostel. No laundry machine either.

✅ Great location with a short stroll to the beach and old town. The bed spaces had a power point, a small shelve and hooks to hang belongings. ❌Staff did not introduce any of the facilities on arrival to the hostel. The bathrooms didn't have anywhere to place belongings (e.g. hooks, shelves). No body wash was provided and the showers had time flow sensors. No fans or AC in rooms, just a window that opened directly to the downstairs bar which was very noisy at night. If I stayed here again it would only be for the location.

It's a clean, quiet (minus the courtyard bar noise), safe, well located hostel with nice communal spaces and comfortable bed with privacy curtains. However, only 1 microwave, and no air-conditioning in the rooms.

Especially during summer quite pricy but good value. Room were nice, beds with curtains and plugs. Bathrooms clean and good commun area. The room with or without AC was weird. It was quite hot in the night while during the day it was nice. Common area only with really limited amounts of plugs, if few people work not enough anymore. Rooftop is nice but closes early with 9pm. Some plugs would also be nice. Otherwise all fine.
