We were at the farmers market in New Bern, NC. We had the pleasure of tasting their wines. I’m not a big sweet wine drinker. But I will say I enjoyed the Perilous and Hush Hush Blush.

Google
This is a lovely family owned winery. All of the wines are muscadine based with the addition of other fruits for some. You can do a tasting of all of their wines for $15. All of their bottles cost $20. The owner was very nice and explained how their wines are made. We really enjoyed the dry muscadine that is called Golden Harvest. Their wines can only be purchased directly from them.

Google
We found this delightful winery through Harvest Hosts and spent the night there in our RV. (Electric and water hook up) Brandon was a great host and the tasting was very good and so much fun! Bought a couple bottles to take with us, along with local unfiltered honey and homemade jam. We would stay again! Thanks Brandon!

This is an excellent small batch winery specializing in muscodine wines. Their strawberry is super special. They also have RV hookups available through harvest hosts. My family has stayed there twice on trips up and down i-95. The hosts communicate very well I make it easy to stay a night.

5/27/22 My mother-in-law wanted to buy some local wine for my wedding. I'm glad we stopped here. The owner was very friendly. We did the tasting tour. We focused mostly on the semi-sweet and sweet wine. There were all unique and glad that these were all 100% natural. My favorite one was the sweet southern breeze. I will definitely have to go back to get their strawberry or pear wine when it's ready.

Google
Very nice gentleman did a wine tasting for us. Wines are the sweeter style eastern NC but not as overly sweet as many. Enjoyed tasting and bought a bottle to enjoy with a mini picnic we'd packed. The chickens are really cute, act more like pets, and we were told they like cheese

Google
Amazing setting from the time you pull in looking at the vinyards to a very welcoming staff and cozy tasting room. Wines were very good and our hostess explained their attributes. Highly recommend you visit their winery!!!

Google
Enjoyed it—would stay again! We stopped here bc it is a Harvest Host (Google it) spot. This is a nice, very small, and quaint place. It’s off the beaten path, though, and Brandon, the proprietor, was very personable. We met another couple who was passing through, and we all sampled 5-6 wines together. I got tipsy (alcohol content is lucky 13%!). Wine is for purchase; so are the wine glasses. You can also buy lotions and potions (not really potions, but something for what ails ya’). There’s also beekeeping done on site. And guess what else?! There are some beautiful chickens on site! Nearby is what’s touted as “America’s Largest Pork Center”. Didn’t go by there, though. This place is a Harvest Host as well, and there is an electric hookup for your RV.

Yelp
Meet Brandon!! He is our Harvest Host at A Secret Garden Winery here in Pikeville, NC! This is an all natural, no pesticide, winery. Bret and I pulled in and immediately began taking pictures. What a beautiful place. We were able to do a wine tasting and bought three bottles. They specialize in Muscadine wine. We would highly recommend! As a side note, there are three separate 50 amp and water sites available for $20.

Carleigh B.

Yelp
Such a sweet man who runs this place, lovely atmosphere and great wine. You get a wine glass to take home as well!

Yelp
We found this place using harvest hosts (an app for people with RVs) and it was such a great experience! For $20 you can hook up to their electricity. For $10 per person you can taste 8-10 wines, get a wine glass to take home, a water bottle, and cheese and crackers. It's a mom and pop winery and Linda was superrrr sweet! They close at 5pm but we didn't arrive until 5:30pm and she still gave us a tasting and mini tour. She said they also will do tastings on Sundays even if they're closed if people call ahead. Only like 6 seats at the bar so nice and cozy. Yummy wines and you can walk through the little vineyard and eat grapes off the vine! This is not like most vineyards I've been to. I love how small and charming it is.

Yelp
This is possibly the best winery me and my husband have been to in North Carolina. Our host, Linda, and her family were preparing for a wedding when we pulled up. They still allowed us to come in for a tasting where we were told the history of the winery and her family. 6 generations all living on one street, she was brought up on a self-sustaining farm and has carried the tradition into her own family....and wine. The wine is all natural, just grapes and water....not even yeast (only yeast used in NATURAL.) And you could taste the difference! We enjoyed the Sweet Carlos, but left with a bottle of Strawberry....because it tasted amazing with the chocolates! After our tasting (which is free for military!) Linda took us on a short tour. We learned that it's only her and her husband, they hand bottle, cork and label everything. We then saw the Secret Garden with 15 year old coy fish! We had such a great stay at the winery, we will definitely be back! And don't forget...don't leave the bottles in your car...the all natural wine continues to ferment in the bottle and will explode if it's too hot!!

Yelp
Great unique winery. Stopped by while visiting Goldsboro and we are happy we did. Brandon was helping us out with our wine tastings and was giving us not only the history but also the future plans of the winery. Very happy we stopped by. We did love being greeted by the three resident chickens too. Looking forward to stopping by again in the future.

Yelp
Linda has a great place hidden away. She and lady were a pleasure to visit. Nice to see and speak to someone who loves what they do!

Yelp
Had a wonderful time touring the winery with Linda. Absolutely beautiful grounds, it almost felt like a little pixie land. And yes, Lady the beagle does snore very loudly. The wines were very good but not like anything I've tried before. Cute little gift shop. I bought winds chimes, a very unique hot air balloon to hang from a tree and of course...wine. Will definitely go back during my next visit. Thanks Linda!!!! Renee Jefferis

Yelp
Delicious and surprisingly dry muscadine and other fruits wines. They were quite tasty and Linda, the owner and vintner, was a great host. The wines are sulfite-free as well. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Londa is very engaging and knowledgeable im addition to being extremely accommodating! Loved the tour, wine tasting and time spent with her!! Two thumbs up!!'

Yelp
Note: This review is of the winery itself with commentary on the wine served. Justin C. warned us of that North Carolina wines were not that great. I know he was probably right but trekked off the beaten path anyway for a quest to just try something new. A Secret Garden Winery is nuzzled in what I believe to be the most destitute city in all of the country, Pikeville, NC. You would not expect a winery to be here. But as the host explains (the owner, Linda), the vineyard was born out of the couple's love for wine and this is more of a hobby more than anything else. Linda also works the winery area doing the tastings which will cost $5 a person and you get to keep the glass. Linda who hosted our tasting was adorable. She invented a poem about what she believed to be a secret garden was and was so eager to share it. She was also adorable in every sense that she prides herself on the organic wines she serves made from local muscadine grapes which are native to NC. As Linda explained the different wines to us, I have to admit I gagged on a few of them as they are exceptionally sweet. So sweet in fact I wouldn't know what the hell you would drink it with other than use it as a port. This question kept coming up and Linda had no answers other than to state it was a good dessert wine choice. We did walk away with a strawberry wine because it was actually quite palatable although I have no idea when we'll drink it. I should note that these wines are all natural and must be consumed soon as they can bubble up and pop their corks. Yikes. There is nothing fancy about this winery. It's tiny and well kept and lacks the dazzle that the larger wineries have. We were served kraft crackers with our tasting which was cute just because you can tell the owners are really trying. There is no outdoor seating area if you wanted to picnic and I am unsure if you can buy a glass of wine after your tasting. I was however, greatly appreciative that Linda let me bring my wounded cub Meeko into the tasting room. The two women sitting next to us seemed to love the wine, though, so perhaps you might like it if sweeter wines are your thing. Each person as their own taste for wines.

Yelp
This place is the epitome of what homemade wine should be everywhere. Not a big place, but let me tell you. These people have a passion for making, and you can tell it as soon as you take the first sip. Linda was the perfect hostess. Most of all she isn't like a lot of others out there that only tell you what they want you to know. Any question you ask, she answers in grand detail. Getting on to the wine. selection, selection, selection. sweet or dry. blueberry or grape. peach or strawberry. she has quite a selection. Also it is all organic, no sulfites. no added yeast. nothing but natural wine. So yes i will be back,. Yes i will tell others about my wonderful experience with one of the nicest ladies i have ever met. Want wine made with love? Then this is the place.

Renee W.

Yelp
This place was great. It is a smaller more intimate type wine tasting. There were only three of us and all of us enjoyed it immensely. The owner is really what made the whole experience worth it. She really does love her little slice of heaven.

Laura S.

Yelp
Linda is a sweet and wonderful hostess at this adorable little winery! She makes the wine and the experience lovely. I can taste the love in her wine, but it does taste homemade (like the wine I make). The $10 tasting was worth it to hear about her history and enjoy some nice wine. We enjoyed the relaxation of her koi pond in the middle of nowhere NC.

Yelp
This was our 1st time visiting. It's a Cute little one person run winery. Linda is the owner and it is very knowledgeable about her product. The grapes used are musodine and scoponong so the wine has a different taste that most wines. If you are not a fan of this type of grape you probably will not like the wine. She uses a completely natural processing for the wine no chemicals and no sulfates. For $10 pp Linda takes you on a golf cart around her property where the grapes are grown and gives you a little background of her life and how she process it's her wine. After the tour she lets you taste test 8 or 10 bottles of her product you can keep your glass and she provides a nice sharp cheddar, Crackers, Dark chocolate chips and a bottle of water. As you taste test, her little dog lady will provide you background noises of snoring, which I thought was adorable. Again this is just a one person run little winery so don't be expecting to go in to a large production facility. Linda answered all of our questions, I found it very relaxing and very informative, we will definitely be back. Oh! If you have a group of 5 or more I would probably call ahead just to give her a considerate heads up since she is a one person show.

Yelp
This is such a fun winery experience! You really get the local experience! Linda is such a sweet hostess. She takes on you a golf cart around her vineyards and farm. Then she shows you the wine making process up close and person. She's very clear with her explanations and clearly takes a lot of pride in what she does. What a fun stop! I would heartily recommend this to all. This is quite a unique experience when it comes to winery tours. The tastings are quite generous. You get to sample a very wide selection. There really is something for everyone here. She also offers cheese and crackers, which is such a nice touch. It really feels like a friendly get together when you're with her! Linda is a lovely hostess, and I hope to go back soon!

Yelp
Delicious wine and excellent host. Explained the wine making process easy for us to understand. The wine is organic, they have sweet and dry - great variety! Even got a taste of wine they have not bottled yet! She gave us a ride on the golf cart around the property, tasted a ripe fig right off the tree, and sample herbs to take home. Will definitely have to stop by here again! No charge to sample.

Yelp
Absolutely loved Linda and the history of her winery. Beautiful day for a tour, she shared her history of the winery. I loved her story, the wine and her. Thank you Linda for an amazing afternoon wine tasting. I loved the fact that you even let me bottle my own bottle of wine. Please stop in and see this wonderful woman and hear her story of her winery.

Ralph B.

Yelp
What an exceptional visit with a tour that was memorable. Linda shared her passionate story of growing up on a working farm and learning from her mother how to make fruit wine. Lady her dog was at her side as we went to the Secret Garden and saw the koi. Wind chimes serenaded us as she explained how the wines were made. This was by far the most interesting winery we had visited. Please follow the signs and enjoy a genuine friendly experience. Wonderful.

Samantha D.

Yelp
One of the most welcoming wineries we've visited. Linda makes you feel at home and the area is absolutely beautiful. We can't wait to return.

Janne G.

Yelp
I love that the wines are organic. We went with our 2.5 year old daughter and the lady was so nice with her. They give you quite a spread with your tasting, and the free tour includes a stop at the koi pond, petting chickens, and looking around the vineyard. She cut us a branch of bay leaves and was very kind to our toddler. Very cool experience.

Nichelle S.

Yelp
A very cute place and very nice owner, who truly loves and knows a lot about her wines. Lovely puppy who loves belly rubs! Different taste but organic and very yummy. We will be visiting again with hopefully more sunshine!

Barney T.

Yelp
Charming small winery. Linda the owner and host of the tour and tasting was knowledgeable and interesting to get to know. After the tasting we bought a glass of wine each and sat enjoying her company and learning about her family and the business. Personal and low key, We may go back to help bottle wine sometime. Took some wine home with us. The wines have been tested to be sulfite free, which makes sense to us. We enjoyed it all.

Doctor P.

Yelp
I would give 5 stars to Linda and her hospitality. She is a sweet lady and takes pride in what she does. But having been to over 100 wineries across the U.S. And Europe this was not our favorite wine. It may be more of a local taste but not for us.

Debra R.

Yelp
Don't let it's location scare you away. We went on a day that was cloudy and rainy, however, we had such a wonderful time chatting with our hostess, Linda. She is the proud owner of this winery and extremely delightful. We were pleasantly surprised by the number of wines she makes and how smooth they were. We plan on returning to take the tour of the vineyards and gardens in the future. We will absolutely return!!!! Thank you Linda for being such a wonderful hostess.
