We dined here at A Touch of Salt while travelling in Townsville and it was the best meal we had during our trip. The food is fine dining style with small portions that are priced on the high end which are worth it for the amazing quality you get in return that will leave you wanting more! The service is friendly and helpful and the atmosphere along with the ambience of the restaurant is warm and inviting while modern. We tried the grilled focaccia, mushroom wontons, pumpkin porcini lasagne, market fish with butternut curry and two desserts: the apple crumble tart and salted coconut sago (which were both amazing!). The plant based/vegan menu options are also delicious and worth a try even if you aren’t vegetarian/vegan. The presentations of each dish were consistent and the flavours were flawlessly balanced with one another. All ingredients, including the market fish (coral trout) were cooked to perfection too. If you’re looking for top notch quality food in Townsville, you have to come here!

A Touch of Salt was great. I got a table straight away as a walk in for Friday lunch. It was fully booked for dinner the nights I was in Townsville. Its got a fine dining feel. Favourites were the mushoom + wakame wonton, spiced lamb (the carrots were amazing too) and dark chocolate bunido. The salted coconut sago is a little plain, so make sure to have some of the sorbet mixed in when you eat it. I'd come here again. Reservations recommended for dinner.

We are so happy to have finally tried this wonderful spot, recommended by a friend who works there. The quality is truly top-notch, and we were not disappointed at all. You'll experience excellent service, with attentive staff who go out of their way to ensure you have a fantastic evening. The quality of the dishes and the variety of flavors crafted by the chef will undoubtedly delight your taste buds. They were very mindful of our dietary preferences and allergies, suggesting the most suitable dishes for us. The atmosphere is intimate, and it feels so welcoming. Highly recommended!

A touch of salt - a touch disappointing. Service: Immediately from sitting down, we were approached several times by different staff asking us what food we'd like to order prior to opening menus let alone ordering drinks. Service was plenty friendly though, just not that attentive. We'd mentioned in our notes that it was our anniversary, though this was not acknowledged in any way throughout the evening. Food: The cuttlefish ceviche itself was good but the assortment of awkwardly cut vegetables (and maybe coconut milk it sat in?) felt like a bit of a confusing arrangement. Pork belly was good, especially with the pineapple. Duck ramen had much more than a touch of salt, and we were unable to taste much else. Lamb was lovely, however the sauce seemed similar, if not possibly the same to the pork belly's sauce - which felt a little odd for such different meats. Overall, it did not feel like it was the special experience it should have been.

A bit sad to write this review as we have always gone to ATOS for our anniversary dinners. Last night we went for our 15 year wedding anniversary and I also mentioned this on our booking. We have previously had exceptional service with attention to detail, but last night wasn’t great. We waited nearly an hour and no entree had come, I asked the waitress as she passed and she said that it will come soon, it’s just that they have a big group in the back corner slowing things down (it looked like a table of 10-12, and the rest of the restaurant was not even half full). We had also gone this whole time without being asked if we would like another drink. The waitress then came back and said that there didn’t seem to be a food order for us? She asked who took the order…it was her. She then asked us if we remembered what we ordered, and I said just check your note book there as it will be on one of the previous pages. It was, and she expedited our entrees. Entrees came 5 or so minutes later. We booked dinner for 6:30 pm and didn’t have our mains until 7:55 pm. We were both tired and sick of waiting at that point that we didn’t get dessert. They did credit our bill for the entrees (total of $36). But this experience just really ruined the special feeling of the evening for us. I’m sorry to say, I think we will go elsewhere for any special occasions in future.

Google
Absolute gem , my husband and I had a child free night on Saturday so we made the most of it with a hotel in castle hill and then dinner at a touch of salt I just googled restaurants nearby and it was the first on the list as we have never eaten in the city . From the moment we walked in the waitress was amazing, I didn’t matter that we didn’t have a reservation at all and they quickly set up a table outside , where we wanted to be. The place had such a beautiful ambience, nice music, romantic lights and overlooking the river was perfect. We had another waitress who was amazing too very chatty and professional, even called us lovebird after she saw us holding hands. We had cocktails, dinner and dessert and it was one of the best meals I have tasted, good size portions good value for money and it was divine. We always hit the strand so it was nice to have dinner in the city for a change, we will definitely be back. Thanks again kizzy & karl cross We visited again Saturday 16th November once again a delight to dine here.

Yelp
Townsvilles best restaurant. Far and above the best food in town, hubby and I have been there for several years now, and the changing menu is delightful. I was quietly nervous when their new chef started but needn't have been. Try their small plates option; great value and WOW how delicious. Cuttlefish yes please. More pork jowl. Even when I didn't 'get' where dishes were going one time, I sat back and thought.....'ok, these plates are messing with me. I'm not being hit over the head with flavour like usual, what does the chef intend? Ooooh ok, I'm being asked to taste subtlety like in the cheese curds....' and when a tiny bit of EVERYTHING on the plate was on my fork, I got it. Nice one, you can hit me with taste, make me think, ask me to taste, and I'll go where your head is. Any time!! Truly awesome job.

Yelp
3.5 stars. A contemporary restaurant right by the bridge, this is a good place for food around here. The interior of the restaurant is fancy, perfect for date night or some celebration, and their menu has quite a few interesting items. Sadly, there wasn't any kangaroo when I went, so I didn't get to try it. I did get some oysters to start, and had a steak as my main. The oysters were meh (bad choice considering we are at the tropics here), I wasn't into the green apple mignonette at all. However, the steak was good and well-seasoned, if only a bit light on the sides. You really have to order some sides to go with your dishes here, even though the meat portions were decent. The mister thought his food was decent, but not good enough for him to fly across the oceans to go again. While I enjoyed the food, the cocktails were a disappointment. They were not well-balanced. Probably should've stuck with wine. Service was ok; I was expecting better since the restaurant looked so fancy!

Yelp
Service was amazing!! Some of the food needed a touch of salt no pun intended but the food came out fast and the waiters were ready to help at any time.

Yelp
Rated by the Concierge as the #1 seafood spot in Townsville, this place is good. Not too exie, provided you don't smash the very good wine list. I had the Szechuan Market Fish. It was very good, if not very spicy (no one from Szechuan is going to be set on fire by this one). Golden Snapper, interesting local choice. Wine list is very good, most important up here above the Brisbane line. Out seating in the go, if weather permits. Great ambiance. I'm coming back for the lamb.

Yelp
A Touch if Salt is an Australian good food awarded 1 hat - -2016 and listed as one of the top 10 QLD restaurants, competing against Brisbane and the Gold Coast. You can dine on a range of delicates and quality ingredients from Kangaroo biltong starters to Vegan options. I had the peppered Duck starter served with vanilla root vegetables, pomegranates and blueberries. My Salmon mains was complimented with buttered Muzzles and a romesco sauce and the desert finish: the delicious raspberry mouse was served with Pistachio, verbena sorbet and milk ganache. It is modern- Australian- and seasonal!

Yelp
The main reason I came here was the fact they sold 'white rabbit' ale and decided I'd take a punt on the steak. I'm glad I did. I didn't really have to wait long. I chose the fillet steak with Tarragon pastry. My taste buds came alive. In fact I'm going back tonight for another.

Yelp
We chose A Touch of Salt as the venue for our wedding celebration - not only because it has the most creative menu and wine list, but also because we could rely on the Brine family to deliver an unforgettable night without any stress on ourselves. As always, our favourite Townsville restaurant over-delivered on every level. Chef Michael presented a unique and customised menu from top to bottom, incorporating all of our must-haves while coming up with some ridiculously amazing creations of his own (hello cronuts!). And as far as drink options went, they invented a new style of martini named especially for us and offered an extensive wine list that had everybody cheery and dancing. The small details can make or break a wedding - do not overlook A Touch of Salt if you want an evening that your family and friends will always remember for being perfect. Thanks forever to Pete, Christine, Mark, Michael and the whole crew!
