Japanese food. Too often when people hear Japanese, they think only sushi. A-un definitely is more than just sushi. Don't get me wrong, the sushi was great, but the rest was even better! We started with edamame, steaming hot and lightly salted. Nothing less than perfect to start the meal. I had corn agedashi, a unique lightly fried ball of corn mash with shrimp embedded within, served with two side balls of corn and (maybe jalapeño) but, well, don't miss it if you like corn. My daughter ordered a garlic chicken bowl, again with fried nuggets of chicken in a light sauce on a large bed of steamed rice. It was too much to finish, so half went home with her. My partner had the waygu beef bowl and, while planning to eat half, left none. I guess that means it was amazing! I had the curry ramen with pork. The depth of flavor in the soup, thick and sumptuous, punctuated by the pork slices and perfectly cooked noodles, made this a dish I, like my partner, couldn't leave behind.
Intimate, lacking true ambiance, unassuming, too cold in the wrong seat (but they adjusted the air flow without being asked), a literal diamond in the rough.
