a&o Salzburg Hauptbahnhof

Not a good experience. Rooms are TINY. I understand it's a hostel, but there should be some space to move around. The bedding is spotty. The heater didn't work and was dirty inside. We had a company of a dead spider. Room ia dim lit. We went for a family room and the bunk beds were not made. We had to do it on our own as per the instructions from the reception person. It's a basic rule - if a guest has paid for the bed, it should be made for them! Lastly we paid additionally for the Salzburg card but for a guest transport voucher instead. Had to pay extra for the Fort carriage, which usually is included in the Salzburg card.

A horrible hotel experience! The first room they gave me already had all the beds taken — even though there was supposed to be one left for me — and it literally smelled like poop. The second room they moved me to was at least cleaner and didn’t smell as bad. I left my towel and water bottle on the bed to mark it as taken, not wanting to leave anything valuable since I was going out for a few hours. Of course, when I came back, someone had taken my bed anyway. The third room they gave me was supposed to be a 4-person dorm, as the receptionist promised to make up for all the trouble. But when I arrived, it turned out to be a 6-person dorm. When I confronted him, he just said, “You paid for a 6-person dorm, I’m sorry.” So why lie about it in the first place? That room, too, smelled like poop. But since it was already late, I had no choice but to stay there for the night. Thankfully, it was only for one night. Avoid this place at all costs.

Stayed in 6 bed mixed dorm, did not have a pleasant experience. For starters, hotel very understaffed considering the size of the place. Only one person on reception leading to long queues particularly when checking in. Room was not available until 3pm, so I had to pay an additional €5 just to store my bag in the meantime. Despite being advertised as budget friendly, be prepared for additional costs as there are no lockers in the room, towels cost extra and breakfast costs around €12. I have stayed at infinitely better hostels for the same price and cheaper. When I eventually got access to my room, I found a cum stained mattress waiting for me (see pic) and no pillow. Had to go back downstairs and wait once again in the queue for the only receptionist to check people in before taking me to find a new pillow. Still had to make my bed myself, flipping over the mattress to avoid the stains. No fan or a/c so the room was really hot at night. On top of all of this, the supposed guest kitchen was a bit of a joke. No cooking supplies besides salt and pepper, one fridge and one portable conduction stove in hotel/hostel that sleeps up to 400 people. Really hot in there and overcrowded with more than 2 people in there. Trying to cook a meal at a sensible time is not possible, not to mention the overflowing bin and flies whizzing about. Would not recommend and will be avoiding a&o brand hostels at all costs going forwards!

Well, you might have gone through all the old reviews, let me point out in order. The goods : - The location. Walkable to the hauptbahnof, which is the main train station - Cleanliness. Toilets, bathrooms and linens were clean. - Facilities. You have breakfast (if opted for or for payment ad hoc. Didn't try it though). Vending machines, lockers etc. The bads: - Well, there are hidden charges! They don't provide a towel when you check in! And no locker either. That is horrendous. Towel costs 1.8 Euro, and locker will be around 4-10 Euros for 12 hours depending upon the size. - No air conditioning - I have heard some rooms have beds put very close, instead of bunk bed. That would be ridiculous of the other one is a stranger. I got a bunk bed though. - They provide you the bed cover, linen and blanket at check-in. You are supposed to make your bed. It takes some efforts to put the bed cover lol. Overall, keep in mind that the actual price is ~10 Euro more than what you paid for in Agoda or whatever online service you used. Also, this is a very big hostel. Like, there are my be 400 rooms. So be prepared.

We stayed in a private room for four people, with our own bathroom. The toilet and shower were in two separate rooms, which was super convenient. The room had one bunk bed and two single beds, plus a TV, desk and chairs, wardrobe, vanity mirror, and a hairdryer—everything we needed! 👍🏻 The front desk staff were really friendly. The common area on the ground floor was spacious and clean, and there was even a play area for kids. Accessibility features were also well taken care of. It’s super close to the train station, and there are supermarkets and a department store nearby too.

The hotel is very close to the train station which makes the traveling much more convenient. The hotel has a great vibe during the day and night with a movie screen and tables and chairs everywhere. Most great restaurants are about a 10min walk away and the Old Town is about 20min away depending on how fast you walk. Overall this is a great place to stay for one or two nights before going to the next location.

The hotel is near to the main station and the room was spacious and clean. The washrooms were clean and neat. I had a pleasant and peaceful stay here. My room was not a shared type but an individual room for two adults. Everything was nice and for the cost I paid for, the services and facilities were upto the mark. I would really recommend this place for a peaceful and pleasant stay. I didn't face any trouble and had a comfortable stay. The people at reception were also courteous and helpful. All in all it was a wonderful experience here.This is my honest review based on my experience.

Didn’t have a great experience at a&o Salzburg. Check in wasn’t till 3pm - standard, no worries - but when we got there at 3pm they said our room wasn’t ready even though I filled in all the required information prior to arrival. Plus, I thought that’s what a specific check in time was for? And the front desk staff were not very helpful or friendly - the one helping us didn’t communicate what was happening and left us pretty unclear on things. Once we arrived and settled into the room - which was all good and had everything we needed - we discovered that we were to share a room with four middle aged men (we are two 21yo girls). So we felt pretty uncomfortable, especially cause there were no female only dorms option. Though it’s not a given, we expected maybe since the accommodation had hundreds of rooms and they asked for our age and gender, that they would place us in a room with people around our age and more of a mix gender wise. At one stage, the power blew in our room, a guest went down straight away and told someone, but it wasn’t until an hour later that my travel friend went down and asked for us to change rooms since the power was still out and we weren’t comfortable sharing with four older men. They said there were no rooms available (again, hundreds of rooms at this place), and only then did they come up and fix the power. Another thing was the guest kitchen was tiny and was meant to be shared with the entire building of guests. I’m not the kind of person to review places, especially a hostel when I’m budgeting a trip, but we weren’t happy with the way we were treated and things could have easily been run a lot better.

This is a great property to stay at. Don't let the "hostel" in the name fool you. This location offers private rooms with a private restroom, in addition to standard room types you'd expect in a hostel. A&O is very clean. Its staff is extremely professional and courteous. The services provided at the front desk include: a bar, coffee, tea, food and snacks. The prices aren't to terrible either. The WiFi is fantastic, and it seems to be throughout the entire facility, not just in the common areas. A huge benefit is A&O's proximity to the train station. It's a short and easy walk to get to the front desk. I highly recommend staying here.
