Abay Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater

After brunch, we wandered around and stumbled upon the Abay State Opera. The building’s architecture is stunning, with a beautiful fountain out front. Right in front is Panfilov Street, perfect for a relaxing stroll after admiring the opera house.

The Almaty Ballet Theatre, located near the entrance of Panfilov Park, is a beautiful cultural landmark. The building has an elegant architectural style and hosts impressive ballet and dance performances. Even from outside, it’s worth a visit for its design and atmosphere, and inside it offers a true taste of Almaty’s artistic spirit. the Almaty Ballet Theatre (often referred to as the Abay Opera and Ballet Theatre) was built during the USSR period. Construction started in the 1930s and it officially opened in 1941, becoming one of the major cultural centers of Soviet Kazakhstan.

Abai Opera isn't only a culture attraction and a performance venue, but also a significant architectural landmark in Almaty. Its construction was completed in 1967, and the building quickly became one of the symbols of the city. The theater combines the elements of Soviet and classic architecture. The surrounding area has a small park and the fountains. It is a very lovely place for walking, especially during pleasant weather when locals and visitors enjoy strolling through the grounds. The building itself makes for excellent photographs, with its impressive facade creating a striking backdrop against the landscaped surroundings. Even without attending a performance, the exterior alone showcases Almaty's cultural heritage and architectural beauty. The location is easily accessible and well-integrated into the city center, making it a worthwhile stop for anyone exploring the area's cultural landmarks.

Very good !!! Recommended when visited Almaty, need to buy ticket earlier and remember to wear proper dress

We went to see Madame Butterfly abd it was really nice. The voices are strong, the building is beautiful, and the audience is so warm and welcoming to the artists. There are subtitles in Kazakh, Russian and English.

FANTASTIC! Good place for arts and performances. The building gives me a traditional ambience and people are accommodating. Clean and spacious. To the theatre performances, technical and visuals are really fascinating. Performances can do better but still they pulled it off wonderfully. I love the nutcracker performance. The Madame Butterfly is also okay. I don’t like the waiting time at the food section and the small space though.

Very nice place in the centre of the city. No performances are there but the area around is impressive.
