Abbaye de Maizières

This hotel has some charm but the physical layout is a huge drawback. The lack of an elevator and the very tight and treacherous spiral staircase is a problem if you are not careful and very fit. The heat/air conditioner was difficult to regulate and our room was small. The bathroom was very small and shower had no shower curtain which meant that the water went everywhere in the bathroom. On the last day of our three day stay, the bathroom smelled like sewage. ||The breakfast room was in the vaulted basement; charming but dark. The candlelight breakfast was romantic but necessary to see. ||The staff was generally not very friendly to Americans except for Betty, who was extremely helpful and accommodating. The guy who checked us in was pretty unhelpful, although he warmed a bit by the third day. ||We would not stay here again.

A unique experience to stay in an ancient monastery! You must be able to handle stairs as there isn’t an elevator.. The ambiance is beautiful. Eating breakfast by candlelight was lovely and the food is delicious. The front desk staff was extremely helpful and gave us great tips for where to eat and places to see. I’d stay here again if given the opportunity!

Circular stairway Very hard to climb and dangerous.wife 80 and I 86 found going to room terrifying and worse coming back down..hotel said they wanted on website but the said only would be a problem with those with disability..for readers of this review that includes anyone over the age of 70 who does not go the the gym regularly! The hotel ignored my request to be located in a room that was easier to access..

On paper, Abbaye de Maizieres seems like it would be a great place to stay in Beaune. The location is about as central as you can get, the venue is in a 12th century abbaye, and the rooms are clean and spacious (especially the suites). Where things went from Good to Poor for us were in the small details, most prominently the lack of hot water on 2 out of the 4 mornings we were staying at the hotel. My wife complained after each time, and while the issue was eventually fixed, it felt very shabby, and not in a chic sort of way. Additionally, the gentleman manning the check-in counter each evening was extremely unfriendly, and we did not feel comfortable ordering a nightcap after returning from dinner... it was almost like he didn't want to be bothered by us. Definitely think twice before staying here - there are much better options in town.

We stayed in the Abbaye for 2 nights and really enjoyed the special atmosphere of this former monastery. It is quiet and the air conditioning was very useful during this heatwave. We also enjoyed a fabulous breakfast served by very attentive staff. Unfortunately, we could not take advantage of the great cellar for a glass of wine as we had already done quite some winetastings during the day. Highly recommended!

We stay here every year on our way or way back to the Alps. Just incredible, so friendly, helpful and our favorite hotel in Europe by a long stretch.

It is a beautiful building in an incredible setting but the experience of staying is lacklustre. The staff didn’t offer to help with bags or were welcoming. The room had leaking plumbing and there was a bad smell. There was ann insufficient number of towels for the three of us. The stairs in our room were very steep. This with a small child was alarming.

This beautiful historic medieval-building hotel transports you back in time. Photos do not do it justice. We stayed at a lot of hotels during our honeymoon, and this one had by far the best architecture. The view from our room was terrific, and we loved the stained glass window in our room. Extremely comfortable bed as well. Everything was stunning. Staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. They recommended two outstanding restaurants and made reservations for us (you need them). Probably the best food we ate our honeymoon. Breakfast was outstanding! Really delicious selection. And have a drink of chartreuse at their bar! Overall, a truly remarkable hotel and lifetime experience. I hope I will get to stay here again.

Incredible setting in a 12th century building. Food was excellent. We got 3 course price fix for 35 euro. Everything my wife and I ordered was excellent. Great service Nice wine list with fair prices. I would definitely go back again

I love this hotel. It is unique, great architecture and the best staff! Bruno and his wife run it and they couldn't have been nicer, more accommodating, or more helpful! Their staff is just as great. Only one downside...no elevator. Normally I wouldn't care about that, but unfortunately I never travel light and my bags are always too heavy. Other than that, it was super comfortable, big rooms, nice bathroom and good beds! We had great wine and food thanks to Bruno and his staff. We can't wait to come back!
