This is a must-go sanctuary if you're visiting Marseille, considering it dates back to the 3rd century. For a ticket of 3e, you can enter the crypt that's bellow the Abbey which shows you an authentic early Christian atmosphere. It's one of the few antique religious monuments in Marseille. In 5th century AC San Giovanni Cassio, builds a monastery above the thombs of the martyrs, and in the 11th century, superior church has been built. In the crypt is a statue of La Nostra Signora di Penitenza, which was admired and venerated especially during the Candelora holidays. In the second half of XX century the Abbey of St. Victor received an honorary title of the basilica. The crypt itself is separated in couple of spaces which serve as an exhibition rooms also. Absolutely stunning place.

Gloomy, picturesque abbey with a castle exterior overlooking the harbor. The sanctuary itself is just a prelude to seeing the crypt below. That lower section dates to the fifth century and features tombs from various ages that evolved in their placement and design as the passed. There are items you can see here that are reflected in Marseille history museum across the harbor.

This is worth a visit just to go down to the crypt. It was 3 euros to enter the crypt, and worth it. It has a fascinating history. And the areas of the crypt are well documented and explained. It was hard to believe that there is a huge church above it.The church itself is also beautiful.

One of Marseille’s most atmospheric and historically rich landmarks. Dating back to the 5th century, this ancient abbey overlooks the Old Port and offers a peaceful escape from the city’s bustle. Its dark stone walls, Romanesque architecture, and hauntingly beautiful crypts—home to early Christian sarcophagi and relics—create a truly mystical ambiance. The abbey also provides lovely views of the harbor from its upper terrace. A visit here feels like stepping back in time, making it a must-see for history lovers and those seeking the spiritual heart of Marseille.

Without question my favorite spot I visited! Such an amazing authentic feel! Even a bit damp feeling, as you've likely imagined in books and movies about the period, not fancy but beautiful and again far more authentic feeling than St Peter's Basillica and the like.

Views from the top are nice. It's a good walk up there through the streets inside the castle walls

The church is beautiful, but the crypt is a must see. Marseille's past is hidden underground, and this journey to the 5th century takes you back to late antiquity and the earliest medieval period. I saw the world through different eyes after meditating on these artifacts from a distant past.

This was my favorite church to visit in Marseille. It's free to enter and 2 euro to enter the crypt. Very interesting stuff. Lots of translations in English so you actually know what you are looking at.
