Abbazia di San Pietro al Monte

Hiked up to San Pietro from Civate. Nice but steep path up there. A lot of the way in a forrest and thusly not in the full heat of the sun. View is awesome and the building plus surroundings is in a perfect condition for its age. Well-taken care of. Made a round tour down via Alpe Linata (map at San Pietro shows pretty good where to go) Would definitely recommend of going there.

This is a wonderful ancient abbey in the mountains north of Milan. It is free to visit, but check the opening hours, and be aware that the only way to reach the abbey is by steep rocky mountain path. The easiest path goes from the town called Civate. Also be aware that Google Maps does not give you the right directions (probably because it does not take into accounnt mountain paths). We made a mistake of going all up to the mountain and then descending back to the abbey. In any case, it is a moderately intense hike, so be prepared (wear hiking boots, get some water). You will be rewarded by the masterpiece of medieval Lombardian architecture as well as a wonderful view on the lake. Inside, there are ancient frescoes and some carving. Friendly staff does not speak much English, but ask for an English audioguide.

Better to book and be attentive with the dates and time! Nice church that provides and excursion of one hour

Beautiful place with really nice views of the Annone Lake. To get there you have to walk from Civate. It’s a 45 walk following a perfectly maintained rock path that for the most part is quite steep. There are a couple of places throughout the walk where you can refill your Walter bottle. We appreciated that most of the walk was under the shade of trees.

I was planning to go to see the sunrise there, so I left home at 6am from Lecco city. But it was very foggy, so I ended up having this stunning sea of clouds!

Easy walk from Civate. Nice views. Impressive drawings inside the church

Very beautiful place. "Must have" when you are visiting Lecco/Como.

Great Old Town on the lake.
