This former abbacy was once the main convent of Celestinians - followers of st Pope Celestin V. Now we can see the result of reconstructions of XVIII century so it's not as old as I want))) Moreover after secularization the convent "works" as a prison and most part of its treasuries were taken to museums or thieved. So it's more like nut-shell than real nut but it's still impressive. You can visit three cloisters of five, the former church, refectorium and library Be careful: the convent is open for visitors with very strange timetable (see one of the photos)

Very nice abby to visit. Close by there are some trails, with one in particular that I recommend (Eremo Sant'Onofrio)

If you are in a trip in this region of Italy, you should definitely give yourself a tour in this abbey!

The building inside has mazingly beautiful paintings and ceilings dating from 12th century. Well worth a visit but make sure it's open. We went on a Sunday afternoon and were surprised it was open. There was a guide who was very informative

Fantastic experience, knew nothing about it but saw it when we climbed up to the eremo. Wonderful abbey with such a rich and interesting history, deserves to be better publicized
