Highlights

"Not your average winery. We have our own style and do it our way. A welcoming atmosphere to drink wine, listen to hip hop and make new friends. Our grapes are sourced from our vineyard property in the west hills of Portland Oregon. We then process, bottle, and sell our wine direct to consumer at our custom North Plains winery and tasting room."

@cntraveler

"Visitors don’t wander into The Crick by accident, on some sort of aimless drive through wine country. It’s too far off the beaten path. They come here to see the gregarious and charismatic Faustin, who's proud to push the needle as the first recorded Black winemaker in the state, and relax with wine and friends on the back patio as a constant stream of hip hop music floats over the speakers. Faustin grows about six varietals on his 50-acre property in the hills above Portland, 15 acres of which are under vine. Think northern Willamette Valley classics like Gamay, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and, of course, Pinot Noir. He turns these grapes into highly quaffable bottles only available direct to customers and on the tasting room “playlist.” A tasting costs $15 and includes five different wines. But this is a place for everyone, so if you’re not into wine, there are a several beers available by the bottle, and even pressed Pinot Noir juice on tap for those who want something non-alcoholic." - Danielle Centoni

Abbey Creek Winery has a vibe on its own. Depending on the day when you walk through the door you may get greeted by the owner Tony. He is a unique owner with aspiration to show you what hip-hop feels like and tastes like all rolled up into one. Down to the smallest details of his playlist which is the wine tasting down to the Biggie Smalls 101 section he even got a Jay Z Mini setup there's even DJ turntables in a wooden barrel. If you are ever in Portland and you need a place just to chill out listen to good music have a beautiful wine tasting with a vibe hip hop in the background something to touch your soul Abbey Creek Winery is the place to go. There is food as well. We had to creme brulee we have to make another trip for the food experience. My wine recommendation is the sunshine, flip it and reverse. But for the ultimate Hip Hop Experience have the POPS that bottle of wine oh my God was something you need extraordinary. This wine is a slow sip that is smooth on the tongue. POPS is dedicated to Tony's father and his heritage. The store and the story behind it is so wonderful and heart felt. Make it a point to stop by Abby's Creek and catch your vibe 🎶

It’s an intimate casual setting with a hip hop vibe. The Owner Bertony and his assistant Alyssa were gracious hosts. I chose the 5 flights with the charcuterie board.

While visiting Seattle, we drove 2 and a half hours south to North Plains Oregon to visit Abby Creek. (There are two locations one in North Plains second in Portland that has different operating hours. ) Bertony is one of 50 black winemakers in the world. The the winery was a whole vibe. Giving us 90s hip hop as we ate and tasted. The food was good and the treat was having Bertony pouring our flights letting us know about the wine. It's a hip hop theme so the pours are according to a play list which gets remixed as well . Fun place. Loved the vibe and the staff. Its worth the trip anytime you are in the area. Reservations are required.

Where do I begin, amazing and beautiful experience. The vibe and everything here is so nice and chill. The food is so so good and you gotta try everything! The wine is so good, the track list is everything and the P.O.P. is smooth. We had a wonderful experience and this was the best experience. Mr. Faustin talked to us and educated us, he was so personable and kind. Everyone was so kind and nice. Beautiful people, beautiful wine, beautiful space, and beautiful vibe. You're missing out of you haven't come here yet. We will def be coming back ❤️

Google
Can I just work here? Hip hop and wine?! Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, excellent music, tasty wines (with fun names). The food was beautiful and yummy. So thankful for this gem of a place. Will definitely be back!

Google
Beautiful morning of tasting and snacking. I loved hearing the story about how the winery started. The “hip hop” vibe was welcoming and the wines were AHHHMAZING!! I can’t wait until they open downtown!

Google
This winery was an entire vibe from the food to the wine flights to the music. The owner was informative and personal.

I came to Portland for my Birthday weekend and this place did not disappoint! It was a vibe! Great food! Great wine! Great people!!

Takako S.

Yelp
This is the place you can just walk in when you want to have a good sip with actual ambience. Close to our house is a plus. (If they allow a dog to bring for outside, would be better). Nice crisp Pinot Gris on Tap (yes on tap) and give you a playlist (flight) to taste for the day. Intended up getting a bottle of Cab, not overly sweet and good for late summer/early fall. Haitian inspired food menus and collaboration with Great Notions Brewery showcase a fun part of the owner!

Yelp
First time in Portland and I knew I was going to Abbey Creek Winery. It was bookmarked as a favorite when I read about it. The food was great, we just a graze board and it was plentiful! We had 5 pours plus a bonus pour from the owner. He's so awesome and gracious. We loved the vibe and for it to be a hip hop winery, that was EVERYTHING!!! I was so excited but I unfortunately got sick the day before so I wasn't feeling 100 percent but I still had an amazing time and I can't wait to visit again!!!

Jessica W.

Yelp
Love this place! The wine is always on point. Love that they have some of their wines on tap. The food was also amazing (cornbread was heavenly and the charcuterie board was delish). Most importantly, the service from both the owner and the tasting room associate was personable and friendly. Top it off with some hip hop playing in the background, it was a perfect experience!

Yelp
Had biked by Abbey Creek Winery for the past year and always wanted to check it out. Well I finally had the opportunity this past weekend and loved this unique wine tasting experience. The owner Bertony greeted us warmly on the way in and made us feel like family. We enjoyed their wine flight which was organized playfully into tracks. We sipped while listening to hip rap tracks. To add icing to the cake, they had great Haitian inspired cuisine and plaintaine chicken sandwich and rice and bean dishes. We're looking forward to another visit sometime soon! Check out their story here: https://www.abbeycreekvineyard.com/red-white-and-black.html.

Yelp
OMG!!!!!!! Lord knows this place is amazing. Where do I begin. #best of both is such a smooth wine. Perfect for sitting on the porch watching the world go by. Then the food..... aww the food. So dang good well seasoned and tasty. Run here

Rochelle H.

Yelp
Great tasting room.We loved our time there and the owner makes sure everyone is taken care of with his personal touch. The wines are great and be sure to try the Crick Juice.

Yelp
A chilled spot to enjoy wine, music, and soulful Haitian cuisine. The crispy fried chicken with plantain and buttery cornbread were on point!

Amy K.

Yelp
First of all, this is a gem in North Plains. The wine is amazing. The customer service is one of the best experiences I've had a winery. The music was fantastic. And absolutely don't sleep on the food. We had the season veggies with whipped feta and cornbread that was so phenomenal I will be thinking about it until we come back. Thank you so much!

Yan G.

Yelp
We really wanted to glorify this spot, are all about supporting our communities, the cause, the work- but, regrettably, this spot missed the mark. Customer service has a lot of improvements to be had, we waited A LONG time for the itsy bitsy pouring, the waiter dropped the platter (literally dropped the food platter on our body) and still got charged for the food that was dropped on our clothes, we had to work hard to get serviced, the hip hop music was playing so low it was hard to make out the sound coming out of their 1 speaker... for a business that's been open for 4-yrs there certainly is growth to be had. This won't be a spot we'll continue to frequent. We dropped $$$$ and we're happy to have supported the business, but not a repeat customer I'm afraid.

Kevin W.

Yelp
I came out here for an art show and this place is very nice. The venue is located in a small town and the venue has a small parking lot. The owner and staff are very nice and make you feel welcomed. They have some good art work up and the DJs are amazing. I do not have much experience with wine so I cannot rate it properly. I recommend people to go out and experience the wine for yourself.

Jasmine J.

Yelp
Came here yesterday for a nice outing w the girls and the vibes were immaculate. Music was on point. Food very flavorful. Great wine. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The time just flew by. Will definitely be back next time I'm in OR

Neva B.

Yelp
If you're looking for a place to hang out with one, or a few people, socially distanced, this is a good choice. It's not a winery like you may expect, as it's an old building that's been well renovated, the inside and decor is super cute. There are only about 6-8 tables throughout allowing for parties to space out. We had a party of 6 and did the food and wine pairing which is $30 per person. The food was mediocre and disappointing. It definitely wasn't a $15 charcuterie plate. The wines were okay. I'm not an avid wine drinker, so I can't speak on them fully. We did leave with a bottle of YingYang to be supportive. If I go back, I would skip the tasting and just drink the dessert wine, lol I think it was called Dope. The customer service and music were the best parts. The owners walked around and chatted with each party which was nice. The music was great, a tad loud for being able to talk to our party. Overall it was a fun experience. I would for sure take out of town guests by to experience it!

Yelp
This place is amazing. I'm from the Bay Area and I knew that if I ever ended up in PDX I would stop by Abbey Creek. The vibe at The Crick was awesome. All of the workers were hospitable and accommodating and the owner was gracious, knowledgeable, and welcoming. He educated us on the history of Abbey Creek and the characteristics of each wine. All of the personal touches from the plantain chips to the music selection made our tasting an awesome time. The table favorite was the #janellemonáe (Sparkling Blanc de Noir). I wanted to try something off of the tasting menu so I purchased the #Dope (Late Harvest Gewurztraminer) and I loved it ! I definitely recommend visiting Abbey Creek. If the owner is there and you have the pleasure of speaking with him. I also recommend the documentary Red, White, and Black about Oregon's minority winemakers.

Sandra A.

Yelp
If you are looking for an amazing wine experience then you must visit Abbey Creek! We visited as part of our anniversary weekend. Haven't watched the documentary about Bertony the owner and his passion for making a difference in our community and the wine industry you have to watch. Bertony takes the time to meet all guests...just a few minutes with him and you can feel you are truly in a yeh presence of someone very special. His wine is exceptional...on this visit we loved all the choices and particularly the Malbec, but the Pinots and Chardonnay did not disappoint. The food served is elevated comfort food with a twist ...fried plantains cooked to deliciously perfection ...the portobello sandwich was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The chicken sandwich is crisp and exceptionally seasoned. Check the menu for seasonal specials as well as "events". The vibe is a groove and fun but with a touch of elegance. This is a must visit and it be be on mourning permanent list of stops when in Portland for sure.

Yelp
Characteristically clean, dry, crisp, tart, and effervescent, Abbey Creek has pioneered a distinct profile and approach to winemaking. My husband and I chose to come here after viewing the fall foliage at the Portland Japanese Gardens to celebrate our Saturday date day, free of our very animated five-month-old, and it has proven to be one of the best discoveries we have made since moving to the area. The atmosphere is relaxed, the staff are animated and enthusiastic, and everyone in the establishment bobbed their heads along to the hip hop tracks. It was incredibly refreshing to escape the often snobby atmosphere that accompanies wine tasting experiences and the resulting stiffness that you feel when you can't be natural. You can be as intellectual or as naive about wines as you want here - these folks will meet you wherever you are at. We opted for the 5-track wine tasting which, much to our delight, came with a side of plantain chips - a nod to the founding family's Haitian heritage. I had spent several months living and working in Haiti from 2011 through 2012, and I have dearly missed the beauty of the country, the food, and its charismatic people - especially the plantains that debuted in every dish. So, finding out about their Haitian roots just made my day. We honestly loved all of the wines and could have bought bottles of each of them, which solidified our decision to buy a refillable bottle and return to purchase more! Next time, we will check out their new downtown PDX location and indulge in their food menu as well! Do check this place out - it is well worth it, and you will not be disappointed!

Yelp
Had an amazing experience here. Such a unique winery and I loved the tribute to his father and Haiti and spotlighting black businesses. Nice laid back vibe with old school hip hop playing. Came with a group of ladies and we truly enjoyed ourselves. The wines were so good, we ordered a bunch of bottles to ship back home and the food - oh my - so delicious! I think we ordered everything on the menu and enjoyed it all. Full of flavor. The owner was not only there but serving and conversing with us, very hospitable. Can't wait to visit again when we return.

Shelly-Ann G.

Yelp
Had a delightful afternoon here with my fiancé for the 4th of July. Bertony has a gem here in Oregon and I'm so glad we got to experience while we're in Portland. The atmosphere is hip, the wine & food are delectable, and Bertony was a wealth of knowledge and warmth. Truly had a VIP experienced. 10/10 recommendation!

Stacy L.

Yelp
I love wine, but I would not consider myself a wine snob. I also listen to hip hop which doesn't always go with wine drinking. However, after visiting this place, I feel like I found my home! Drinking wine + listening to hip/hop=a great time! I was visiting my family in Portland from Arizona and we decided to pick a few vineyards. We stopped here first and I'm glad we did. Wine was good, but the owner and the winetender were awesome! They gave us so much information about the wine and the vineyard, etc. I don't think I had a favorite, but most of the reds I tasted were good. I will stop by Abbey Creek next time I'm in the area for my fix of wine and hip/hop!

Kisha B.

Yelp
This is a fantastic place to taste wines. Everyone working there is very knowledgeable and engaging. We had the pleasure of speaking with the owner. It was great to hear about his experiences and his journey to opening the winery.

Shastina H.

Yelp
Came in to buy some bottle of wine! The ambiance is awesome and they are open to tastings. The owner helped us choose wines, we went with one on tap, the white Pinot, and a rose. We tried the one on tap, I think it was a Portuguese variety and it was so good. Definitely recommend the wine. I want to come back soon to do a tasting with friends.

Kelsey S.

Yelp
Stopped here on a Saturday afternoon and so glad we did. We both did a tasting and then split a bottle of wine. We sat and talked with the owner Bertony and what a cool guy. We loved visiting with him and the other bartender there. We wanted to return the next day but didn't have time. We will definetely return to this winery when back in the area. The wines were really good and pairing them with hot sauce was a first for us. Very cool experience!

Kari L.

Yelp
Went off the beaten path and found a gem!! Delicious wine and such a chill vibe. Grabbed a bottle for home and will definitely be back many, many more times!

Yelp
Bertony Faustin is a hustler. He got it from his pops, a #Haitian immigrant who moved his family to Brooklyn for more opportunities. Several years ago, on his move from New York to California, Bertony stopped in Oregon - and stayed. His father's death was the catalyst for him to take a risk. If the wine wasn't successful, he'd make raisins. In 2008, Bertony Faustin became the first recorded black winemaker in Oregon. He's been making wine ever since. He stresses it's not about the wine. It's about building opportunities as well as talking about inclusion and equity. A 30-minute drive from downtown Portland, Abbey Creek Winery is a cozy refuge filled with passion, soul and love on an aging Main Street. You can hear music and laughter as you walk in. A deejay booth made out of a wine barrel greets you at the door. Art by local artist is on display. It was like being home. We recently spent a few hours with Bertony and his crew. The wines were delicious. He also makes a sweet juice. The juice idea stems from his program to inspire underserved high school students. When they come to work on the vineyards, he gifts them juice. Bertony also crafted a documentary, Red White and Black, about the first minority-owned vineyards in Oregon. See below. Abbey Creek is well worth the trip. Until next time, Bertony! Keep the lights on for us!

Deb P.

Yelp
I want to like this place, I really do. But it has some of the worst wines I've ever tasted. Stong notes of petroleum and grass (cat pee). Every single one of them. We taste most weekends, belong to wine clubs and know a lot about wines. I'm not sure how this winery rated a solid 5 stars. Friendly winemaker. Nice atmosphere--very large space. Good service. Clean restrooms. 1 star for the wine, an additional for the service. I just cannot recommend. Sorry!

Trey T.

Yelp
My favorite winery. The owner is a standup guy and the hip hop experience is superb! Make sure to grab a bottle of the Rosè

Shalonda J.

Yelp
Had a good time with friends and family. Nice atmosphere, good selection of wines, good music, big screen, friendly staff, owner present and attentive. Well worth the trip. Will be back soon!

Michelle P.

Yelp
Visiting from California. Read about this place online and had to visit. Stayed 3 hours and had a great time. Unlike any other winery we have been to. Totally enjoyed ourselves. We will return on our next visit.

Elicia B.

Yelp
The wine is great, and the atmosphere is even better. Such a great place to take visiting friends from out of town. The owner has been in and available to chat every time I've come. The rose is my favorite, and my red-drinking friends always enjoy the reds as well. Try the hot sauces they sell at the counter - so special!

Ms E.

Yelp
WoW! What an experience it was visiting Abbey Creek and enjoying a private wine tasting with Winemaker Bertony. All of the choices were exceptional but I especially enjoyed the DIVA and TAXI. His wine selections are high quality...and I drink a lot of great Reds to compare them to

Kiki J.

Yelp
Wine is good but the owner and place have such a cool vibe! A very different kind of winery - has a great story behind it. The owner is actually there hanging out and wants to discuss wines! What a rarity!! Worth the drive!

Katherine V.

Yelp
Used a Amazon Deal (or Google offer? Can't remember) for this one. We brought three people in total and it was only an extra $5 since the deal was only for two. I was so impressed with the service we received during our tasting here! We were told all about the wine by a woman who mentioned she was one of two who ran the winery. She explained each taste, and in between talked to us about the winery and upcoming events. It was the best tasting experience I have ever had, which says a lot after recently tasting in California. The wine itself ranged from good to excellent. I really enjoyed one of the wines that was unfiltered...very unique. We were also offered a small pairing. Kind Bar pieces I think...which were actually really good with the wine. We also received two stemless wine glasses with our deal. Love that. The tasting room was a bit empty, but I loved that they had local photographers pictures on the wall and furniture made from wine barrels. Oh, and make sure you type in the actual address into your GPS or phone, because Google Maps took me to the actual Abbey Creek instead of the tasting room. Totally a stupid mistake on my part, but just saying, they are two different places. : )

Monroe B.

Yelp
I love the vibe of this place! The winemaker is really awesome. I love all the local treats here as well. I do wish the wine was better, I'm a huge Pinot fan and I just didn't love the selection. Will give it another try!!

Rebecca W.

Yelp
This isn't best location for a winery, though in North Plains there isn't a whole lot of locations to choose from. They made the most out of a little red building on the main commercial street in this beautiful rural community. The inside is nicely decorated with really cool furniture pieces made from old wine barrels. I would love to buy one of them one day! The gal (I believe co-owner) was super nice, super chatty with customers and I enjoyed talking with her. The wines were hit and miss. The Chardonnay was excellent! One of the best I have enjoyed. I believe this one received an award. We bought a bottle and thoroughly enjoyed it when we got home. The others were meh...okay. The Pinot Noir, which I normally love, was off somehow in its flavor profile. Not being real versed on wine terminology I can't put my finger on it, I just judge by what my taste buds tell me...and they were not happy. The Pinot Gris was okay. But not worth buying a bottle of. We were told that this is a new winery and because of that we will be back. It is going to take some time to get it right and these folks seem to have the passion behind wine making. I look forward to seeing (and tasting) what they come out with next year! I would recommend this location if you are in the area wine tasting. It's worth the visit. And hopefully on our next visit I will have reason to raise this review from 3 to 4 stars. Best of luck to you all!

David S.

Yelp
I reviewed Abbey Creek back in 2011. We still visit often. The wines have truly gotten better and better and are one of our favorites now. Bertony is one of the nicest guys you will meet. I highly recommend stopping by North Plains for a visit and tasting

Angela L.

Yelp
This winery was a fantastic find! We were traveling from the coast and stopping at wineries along the way back to Portland and I'm so glad we went to this one. The owner was so so knowledgeable and engaging with us, really made us feel comfortable and paired our wines with various hot sauces which were all amazing! They give you a very relaxed atmosphere to drink some tasty wines and listen to some hip hop music.

Nina C.

Yelp
I was on a quest for an Oregon Pinot Noir and our last stop at Abbey Creek did the trick! My friend and I drank it a few months later and she said she never liked Pinot Noir until then! It's a more medium-bodied Pinot, just the way I like it. The staff here is very friendly. The only downside I would say is there's not a lot to look at in the tasting room here. It's not a vineyard or a super decorated tasting room but nonetheless, I enjoyed the wine!

Lori P.

Yelp
What a great place! We read about this place in the Oregonian and we have some friends who love wine so we took them there as a wedding present. What a great day! Great wines, nice folks and a sunny day

Martha D.

Yelp
Recently opened on weekend afternoons. Good wines, especially if you like pinot gris and pinot noir. Friendly staff. Easy parking.

Jono G.

Yelp
Found an Amazon Local deal for a private tasting and quite enjoyed it. The wines are excellent, and Bertony was great - a knowledgeable winemaker and a lot of fun. Currently distribution is limited within Portland and Beaverton but they ship online orders. Try the Mélange or Pinot Noir 2009 Reserve.

Angel T.

Yelp
Visited on a Living Social Deal. Great tour, amazing wine, highly suggest it! Bought a voucher for another friend and they loved it as well! You won't be disappointed.

Dave S.

Yelp
Great tasting wine and nice to have a winery in the Bethany Area. Very nice family run vineyard and winery.

Jenny P.

Yelp
Went for a private wine tasting a couple of weeks ago. Nice winery near the Bethany neighborhood. Enjoyed all the wine we tasted.

Romina S.

Yelp
we saw this winery with a living social voucher, after looking it up on internet didm't look very inviting from the picture outside. glad we went in! great wines, super friendly staff and a good talk about the vineyard, pinot noir and nice tips for the neighbor winery's. excited to taste their chardonnay in july when it comes out!
