"For something a little different, try the Aberdare National Park situated next to the Great Rift Valley. Here, luscious, vibrant forests give way to open expansive moorland, towering mountains and steep gorges. The Aberdares are famed for their population of black rhino, as well as the giant forest hog, elephants and a range of antelope and gazelle. It’s here that the Treetops Hotel is situated – which made headlines as the location where Princess Elizabeth of the UK acceded the throne when her father died in 1952."

How to Plan a Safari in East Africa in 2025

"Aberdare National Park is listed among Kenya's parks that offer camping options; special campsite reservations should be arranged at the Kenya Wildlife Service office in Nairobi." - Matthew Kepnes

Entry fee for three adults and one vehicle came up to be $271 USD for non-residents (while residents of pay 1/4th of that price). Animals are there but not in abundance. We did see a hyena, a few dinkas, a warthog, random gazelle (and impalas?), etc. never saw an elephant but their droppings are plentiful. We camped near the fishing lodge and was about 50 F at night so bundle up (Oct 18-19). Scenes are good, pretty stunning. Checking out took us 30 minutes bc we bought our vehicle registration on E citizen and the tickets at the gate bc there was a glitch. Lots of confusion when checking in and out. Overall a great place to check out as an American. Ps. We drove from Nairobi to Lake Naivasha before hitting up the park. The police pulled us over and shook us down for 10,000 KES. We should have negotiated for 500-1000 KES so be careful driving outside of Nairobi— especially in one spot.

I hiked to the highest point at Oldonyo Lesatima peak and it was absolutely breathtaking. The views at the summit were stunning. The hike to the summit was moderately challenging but the incredible scenery made it worthwhile. This hike is a must do for people looking for a challenge, diverse scenic views and landscapes.

Waited at the gate (Treetops Gate) for too long, thanks to beaurocracy from the park rangers. Sad that foreigners who came after us, were allowed in faster than citizens. Best time to go is early morning if you want to see the animals. Only saw Buffalo, Warthogs and Elephants which constantly avoid being seen. Also, Northern part of the park is only accessible by appointment. Not impressed at all.

A beautiful park where you may or not come across wildlife. But if you like animals is best to sleep at The Ark Lodge so you can see them from very close as there's a waterhole in front of the lodge where elephants, bushbucks, hyenas and other animals come to drink. If you like mountain atmosphere with chilly weather and beautiful altitude rainforest that's your place! Many hikes available especially in the highlands area, the Dragons Teeth hike is definitely a must! Very scenic!

I am always amazed by the beauty of my beautiful country 😍 I love waterfalling but Aberdare National Park has my heart on this Beautiful waterfalls and serene nature 😎😎 My second time there and I was amazed how the vegetation has grown and a large number of elephants have been migrating there so chances seeing a herd of them is very high Loved the experience 😁😁 definitely visiting again

A very scenic drive with great views and abundant wildlife. It's very therapeutic, affordable, and the main tracks are easily motorable in more or less any vehicle. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who's looking to relax in the wild.

Visited Raggia Falls. Two falls, an easy and slightly challenging second water fall. For a seasoned hiker, the terrain was easy. 😉 Go easy on the ascend and descent since the Oxygen levels fluctuates due to quick altitude changes. Overall, very calming to seat at the waterfall and hear.
