11 Themed Eateries to Indulge Your Secret Obsessions

"Tucked away on a quiet corner within Savannah’s National Historic District is Abe’s on Lincoln. A bar favored among locals and the kind of off-the-radar hangout one craves as a tourist, it is more than your average corner pub. It offers a combination of what has defined Savannah: history, drinking, and art. The latter comes courtesy of its ever-evolving installation of napkin art. Napkin after napkin of illustrations cover the wooden beams of the bar’s low, centuries-old ceiling and tuck themselves among eclectic objects on the walls. Each slip offers an artistic take on the same subject: the country’s 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. There is Abe riding a bike, as a zombie, as SpongeBob Squarepants, among others. Many depict the image ingrained into historical memory: a man stoically gazing out under thick eyebrows, distinct cheekbones, and signature top hat.  While the bar itself is named after Honest Abe, the street where it sits are named for Benjamin Lincoln, a Revolutionary War general who fought in the Siege of Savannah in 1779." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

14 Best Bars in Savannah

"The dive of all dives, Abe's on Lincoln has remnants from past patrons and napkins with Abraham Lincoln's face littering the walls. The space is dark, small, and a little sticky (as you'd expect and want it to be). The staff is to-the-point and quick on their feet; order a beer or a shot, then move aside. This is a different type of bar in the historic district. It's a no-frills bar for a no-frills night." - Barbara Skidmore

A stick figure will likely not be either. Drawings should be signed and dated. Google
Abe’s was one of our stops during our haunted cocktail walk. The amount of drawings of Abraham Lincoln is astounding! They are literally everywhere you look! Drinks were tasty and the vibe was fun. It’s a smaller sized bar so we were kinda packed in there while we were there. We had a great time and would definitely recommend checking it out if you are in the area. Bartender was great.

Google
Hands down my favorite spot to get a few drinks in Savannah! The staff is great and the drinks are not only on point, but they are reasonably priced. We make it a point to always come back! While you're there, ask for a paper and pen, they'll let you pick a spot to add your Abraham Lincoln drawing. Love this place! No food here, ear before arriving!

Google
A hole in the wall that was a great little stop for us on our bar crawl while in Savannah. Just thousands of hand drawn pics of Abe Lincoln or a rendering based on each artist's perception of how Abe should be drawn, hang from the rafters and ceiling above. Full bar or beer available. Music by Daily Bread pours out of the speakers to add to an eclectic evening of Abe pics and libations.

Google
Abe’s on Lincoln is such a cool, laid-back spot! The vibe is relaxed, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere has just the right amount of character. I just drank some vodka and sodas. It’s definitely a great place to unwind and enjoy good drinks in a chill environment. Highly recommend checking it out!

Google
What a great local spot! We were blown away by the amount of Abraham Lincoln doodles everywhere! Bartender was awesome and made me a sweet drink we took to go on our pub crawl and wish we went back for more.

Google
You want a dive bar in Savannah, you found it. Great atmosphere and prices. No fancy martinis here, just thousands of Lincoln sketches. You can meet local folks here too. What more do you want.

Google
My favorite spot in Savannah! Gizmo and Eric are awesome and the drinks are not only good, but they are well in the budget. Hubby and I love this place! While they serve no food, they serve the best drinks. GO! DON'T THINK TWICE! Chill ATMOSPHERE

Steven Apgar

Google
Legitimately awesome bar with a nice vibe. Prices are very cheap considering the area. Bartenders were nice and engaging. Bad itself is a tad small. But the atmosphere makes up for it. If you are visiting this is a must check out spot for at least a beer or two.

Yelp
This is as close to a no frills dive bar as you're gonna find in the touristy side of Savannah, and we loved it. Small, dark, quiet (when we were there), with thousands of drawings of Abe Lincoln hanging from the ceiling. The bartender (Daddy) was friendly and funny, and quick to refill a thirsty traveler's drink. This was the perfect respite from craziness that increases the closer you get to the river.
google avatar

Jen M.

Yelp
Drinks are basic in the best way - think pilsner and well drinks. I could have spent hours perusing the micro art gallery with thousands of tiny interpretations of Abe Lincoln. Take a break from tablecloth restaurants and relax in the cozy, beer-scented womb of Abe's on Lincoln.
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
Divey little bar hidden away underneath an old house. It's situated on Lincoln and called Abe's because the entire interior (and I do mean the ENTIRE) interior is covered in patron's had drawn pictures of Abraham Lincoln. Floor to ceiling: Honest Abe. Drinks are reasonably priced, service is super friendly and once a week, the mic is open. It became my favorite watering hole on my trip to Savannah. 4 score and 7 beers ago....
google avatar

Kathleen T.

Yelp
A casual joint for a cocktail or brew with friends. Follow their Instagram! They're so funny
google avatar

Alli S.

Yelp
Fun dive bar. Small and quaint. The bartender was super friendly. It had a small bar patron vibe, everyone friendly, and chatty. The abe pics were so fun to look at. Some are really good and some are just so funny. They have a patio. Only draw back, which is expected at a dive bar and a shared bathroom. But the bathroom reeked of urine. It looked clean but smelled so awful that you felt like every surface must be covered in urine. I'd still go back and recommend it to anyone coming to Savannah. Just don't use the toilet, lol
google avatar

Yelp
This had to be my first review on Yelp. The name of the bar and reviews saying "dive bar" had me telling myself that I HAD to check this place out. I just moved here from Colorado and decided to check it out my first night out on the town...ended up closing down the place. Locals were cool. Bartenders were cool and never had anyone waiting on a refill. Wife visited a couple weekends later so I showed her this cool bar. Ended up playing darts in the back and we had to do a sketch of Abe before we left. Although ours don't compare to the many talented versions hanging from the low ceiling. Instant favorite bar.
google avatar

Brittany P.

Yelp
This place rocks. We make sure to stop in every time we visit Savannah. It's a dive bar with an outside area. There's a dart board so we always try to get a game in. It's never too packed and people are always friendly.
google avatar

Nancy C.

Yelp
Whoop whoop! They let us have the dog! Very neat place! It is not large inside but they have outdoor seating too The cool thing about this bar is that they will post your napkin drawing of Abe Lincoln on the ceilings and walls. It is really a cool bar A must see!!
google avatar

Sloan M.

Yelp
Abe's on Lincoln is such a cool pub with a cool vibe. Abe's is the quintessential hole in the wall pub and I was there for all of it....from the burly bearded doorman to the burly and bearded bartenders. They had a fun way to order a shot by rolling dice which was reminiscent of a roll on a dungeons and dragons gameboard. This was a HUGE hit with all of us ladies. This place spins old vinyl records with just enhances the coolness of the vibe. We enjoyed it so much that we will be going back again tonight
google avatar

Kelsi H.

Yelp
Hole in the wall and wonderful! Just a great vibe here. If you're looking for a chill drink, this is the place to be. Great people, funny drawings, and LOW ceilings lol the tall people have officially been warned. Look for our Abe... he's Thirty, Flirty, and Thriving lol
google avatar

Erica J.

Yelp
Quintessential dive bar. Loved the vibes and all the drawings of Abe are fun to look at. Definitely worth a stop while in Savannah!
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
Went for drinks with friends based on a recommendation from a different bar. It's a modest hole-in-the-wall with great vibe that attracts a lot of different folks. We really enjoyed their drinks, had a really great time connecting with others, and taking in all the Abe drawings.
google avatar

Jeff N.

Yelp
This was our first bar stop for our mini-honeymoon weekend in Savannah, and it was a great one. We loved the low-ceiling, dark-wood ambiance of the place. The ceilings had tons of dollar bills and other types of swag nailed/stapled, with cool booths and tables. Both my wife and I grabbed whiskey drinks and chilled at one of the tables for a bit, taking in the place. It's a great place to kick-off your evening, especially, if you're coming from one of the nearby B&Bs like we were during your stay in the city. They have plastic cups to take your drinks with you to another destination as it's legal to have open container in Savannah. Something I wish we had taken more advantage, but I digress. Additionally, they had a water cooler if you wanted to hydrate. Definitely enjoyed our time here as we made our way around the historical downtown of Savannah. Would come back for another drink or two.
google avatar

Nancy J.

Yelp
A quaint little watering hole in the wall away from the tourist crowds. Unassuming entrance on the corner, opens into what was most likely an old living room style bar complete with hearth and mantle. A back sitting room (with darts available to play) leads to a gated covered patio for smoking. Kind bartender and a feast for the eyes in a million renditions of our 16th president at 17 Lincoln. Get away to a local nook and enjoy a fair priced beverage. NO CHILDREN THIS IS A BAR!!
google avatar

Ashley S.

Yelp
This place is a hoot! Apparently one of the oldest bars in Savannah, always heard about it but never went in. Lots of entertaining Abraham Lincoln art and if you ask the bar staff they will provide materials for you to add your own.

Steven M.

Yelp
Great little dive bar. Nothing special of course but fun time for us out of towners. Centrally located and friendly. Mostly cans and well drinks but a few on draft. Enjoyed it!
google avatar

Sheri S.

Yelp
This is definitely a place you need to visit when in Savannah. It is kind of grungy and old but it's got so much character and has been around for so many years. This is one of those must visit places! And it's got such an eclectic feel with lots of fun art! Make it a part of your barhopping. You won't regret it. Just don't plan on spending the whole evening there. It's more of a visit and go kind of place.
google avatar

Kim E.

Yelp
Visited this place while on a pub crawl. Staff was great, we got served quickly. And it was very interesting looking around at all the drawings of Abe Lincoln plastered on almost every part of the wall and ceiling. It can feel a little claustrophobic in here with the low ceiling. Also, note that you are carded at the door so be prepared with your ID.
google avatar

Heidi M.

Yelp
This bar came recommended and it did not disappoint. Such a fun and unique concept, with hundreds of napkin-drawn Abe Lincoln sketches taped throughout the bar. Ask the bar tender for napkins and a pen and get to it!
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
Classic dive bar. Old building with tons of history, and full of locals and tourists alike looking to share stories. Go ahead, grab a beer, and a pen and napkin from the bartender and contribute to the history of Abes on Lincoln.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
I loved this place! We ended up going here on a True Crime and Wine Tour and I could have stayed all night. The vibe was SOOO cool and the drinks were delicious. I wish I could have spent hours just checking out all the different Abes! Next time I'm in Savannah I will absolutely be spending more time there!
google avatar

Peter S.

Yelp
The most charming dive bar. It's pretty much everything you want in a little. hole in the wall bar. We stopped there for a beer while walking through the city looking at homes and architecture.
google avatar

Nikki J.

Yelp
This is such a quirky dive bar. I absolutely loved it. It kind of seems like a hole in the wall, because it is. There are not a ton of seats, but there are tons of regulars. I grabbed a seat at the bar, ordered a drink, and admired all of the drawings. I was able to talk to the bartender about the history and apparently one guy just came in and drew abe on a napkin around 2012 and here they are now. But the place itself had been around for a while. I definitely enjoyed my time here, ended up staying way later than I expected just talking to locals and the bartender. The drinks are cheap, but the conversations are rich.

Kaycee M.

Yelp
As an avid dive bar connoisseur this place is the worse. The bartender was so rude. I get he was trying to play the part but the gig is up. Music is horrible and not a good time. Save your money and go elsewhere, where they'll treat you with some respect.
google avatar

Anastasia W.

Yelp
This was such a cool bar! The entire bar was covered with pictures people drew of Abraham Lincoln! There was DJ playing really cool music which made it even better! Staff was friendly and drinks were a good price.
google avatar

Matthew B.

Yelp
Abe's on Lincoln at first glance appears to be a regular old dive bar. They fit the criteria, cheap drinks, a little grungy and typically tourist free. As you look a little closer, you notice napkins taped staples and attached to the ceiling. That's when it hits you. This isn't a dive bar at all. It's an art gallery. Each and every napkin has a little portrait of good ol' Abe. There are thousands of little pictures drawn by patrons of Abraham Lincoln covering the ceiling. So if you are looking for something a little obscure to do for the evening. Grab a Pabst, head to Abe's and look at the ceiling.
google avatar

Terri S.

Yelp
As I strive to find every dive bar in my sight, I can't leave Abe's on Lincoln out! Placed right on the corner of Lincoln St., this tiny little bar should not be missed. Not far from Bay St...easy to find. Once you walk in, you are surprised by the many pieces of artwork that line the ceiling...some should be in an art museum, others should see the trash, however, it's the charm of the place. So draw a picture of Abe on a napkin and let them have it. It's fun to go back at a later date and see if you can find your drawing. Mostly local, I am sure, but you don't feel snubbed. Good amount of bar seating, tables and chairs, 1 bathroom, a back room for bigger crowds, and a patio out back. Plenty of beer to choose from with great prices! Doesn't open until 4, but really worth stopping in for a drink and some artwork. I'll be back....
google avatar

Scott G.

Yelp
Great dive bar,The bar keep was funny and straight forward. Nothing special about this place a lot of history, the locals that are there are welcoming also. One piece of advice don't go if you get your feelings hurt easily. I will be back when I vist Savannah
google avatar

Jaci K.

Yelp
Cool local dive bar! It's a corner bar that's extremely tiny and pretty secluded. I wouldn't have thought to stop in, but it was part of our bar crawl and i'm sure happy it was! The walls are lined with drawings of Abe Lincoln on napkins, making this place more of an attraction then a bar. Everyone there was very friendly and welcoming. They were eager to talk about the unique bar and its history. Great place to stop in, grab a beer, and meet some new people!
google avatar

Denise M.

Yelp
I'm really sorry we lived here for 5 years before we found Abe's. You can't beat the atmosphere and the food is incredible and cheap. Go pretend you're 10 and just finished little league and get yourself some pizza and one of their handmade and customizable ice cream sandwiches then sit at the picnic tables outside and watch whatever going on at the field! The breakfast sandwiches can't be beat and I can't wait to try some of their take home dinners. The lasagna looks like it's going to be a favorite in my house!
google avatar

James R.

Yelp
Divey bar with some really bizarre electronica blaring out of the speakers. The drinks are cheap and the visuals are pretty amusing. A lot can be done with a ball point pen in interpreting Abe Lincoln. Some of these interpretations including fusing Abe with the strategic parts of the male anatomy. Since we are in a town with an art school....etc etc etc. Maybe the artist was a Southern kid who didn't like Abe... if you are a tighty-whitey from Atlanta or Charlotte (there are a lot of them in Savannah..) this may not be your kind of thing...as a person who grew up revering CBGB in Gotham, I find Abe's on Lincoln a wonderful oasis....
google avatar

Sati A.

Yelp
At first, you think you have entered the wrong bar... The walls and ceiling is "wallpapered" with small post-it note size caricatures/doodles of none other than Ab Lincoln. It's something to see! The bar is small, but the bartenders definitely are attentive and will make sure your are not thirsty! So skilled, they will make you any custom cocktail - delicious! There Is NO FOOD, so eat first then drink. The back room has a dart board, which is super fun. There also extra seating outside the bar... We had a great night talking to people from near far - even petted the local the locals friendly dogs.
google avatar

Lori B.

Yelp
Cool little hole in the wall dive bar in historic Savannah! Abe Lincoln napkin art plastered everywhere. I might have had a few too many libations bar hopping for the day in Savannah, as I have been known to refer to the place as Ben's on Franklin when bringing up the experience in conversation......
google avatar

Colton S.

Yelp
Grade A dive bar with plenty of personality, guests always ready to strike up a conversation, and quick drinks. Perfect for sitting down for an evening or a quick grab 'n go.
google avatar

Jason F.

Yelp
Nice dive with a surly bartender. Just the way a dive should be. Lincoln pics are all torn down per the fire department but still a cool hang.
google avatar

Ailyn B.

Yelp
So we can here after dinner because many of our friends said to go here. What I loved about the place: dive bar atmosphere, the music, entertaining napkin drawings on the ceiling. The drawings are hilarious and add such a distinct feel to such a historic city. What I did not like: service. When we walked in, there were maybe 8 people in the bar (including the two bartenders). Entering the bar, they all looked at my boyfriend and I and not one person said hello or welcome- not even even the two staff members. We walked in happy to be at the place where many of our friends recommended. We were immediately captivated by the ceiling art. We made our way to the bar to wait, and wait, and wait. We stood there for probably 10 minutes before the bartender asked us "what can I get y'all". Not even a hello, welcome, how are you. {BTW- There are still only 6 patrons in the bar at this time}. When we ordered our draft beers, we meandered to their outside patio area. It was cute. Overall- it was a cool dive bar, but would have loved to have felt more welcome.
google avatar

Courtney S.

Yelp
Absolute disgrace! We were on a ghost tour that I emailed prior to see if my 8 month old was allowed on (which she was) and the nasty bartender screamed 'NO KIDS ALLOWED' while walking in. There were two people at the bat while we were walking in. I genuinely hope no one supports this business as they are nasty to children! Disgusting.
google avatar

Crystal S.

Yelp
The bartender with a beard tonight was totally rude and disrespectful. We asked him about drinks and he told us to turn around and look at the board on the wall. He didn't want to want to answer any questions; he just rudely told us to look at the beer menu on the wall. He said if we didn't like it then we can leave. If he's not open for questions or working with the public then maybe he should be stocking shelves and not dealing with customers!!
google avatar

JJ L.

Yelp
First time in! Great looking place, looks to have a ton of history. Gave it three stars because the bartender was rude as hell! Maybe more for the locals. Other than that it had a great vibe.
google avatar

Ralphie S.

Yelp
A strange little place and I do mean little and strange, neither meant pejoratively. I'm not sure how the Fire Marshall hasn't shut them down for some of the things I saw, but hey that only adds to the experience. There is drawings of Abe everywhere you look and some cool characters and a good bartender. At about the time I was ready to catch my Uber, in walks a Ghost tour and the place became packed in an instant. When in Savannah check it out, just don't make it your one and only for the night.
google avatar

Lynett M.

Yelp
This bar was right behind my hotel. This was a unique bar filled with Abraham Lincoln's drawings everywhere. Drinks were decently price, they have an out side area and music, and best part they open until 3 am.
google avatar

Laurie V.

Yelp
Honestly, I cannot think of a better dive bar. And I would abolish all myths that this a tourist trap. I think more locals frequented this joint. Better than Mount Rushmore, the hall of presidents, and a trip to the theater. So leave your log cabin, and head over to Abe's!
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
A very cool Dive bar with low ceilings. The room inside is compact. Meaning, not a lot of square footage. So the warmer it is outside, obviously the hotter it can get inside. Not a good or bad thing, just pointing out what to look out for. Once you go in, there is a couple of tv's to the left that plays any sporting events or whatever they decide to play on tv. Go inside and towards the back, hook a right , there is more seating and beyond that is the patio section usually for those just hanging out, having a beer or a smoke. What's interesting inside is they have all these drawings of Abraham Lincoln on napkins. At first sight, it looked like tampons the way they are taped to the ceilings. It brings out the uniqueness to the bar. The drink prices were ok. It isn't too far off the path but close enough walk to everything. Cool place, definitely would go back. Grade: B+
google avatar

Cassi P.

Yelp
Absolute favorite bar in Savannah! The staff is so friendly - they remembered me after a whole year went by. Feels like hanging out at your best bud's place. Plus the drinks are super reasonably priced and the atmosphere is so fun. Love, love, love
google avatar

Kathleen M.

Yelp
So fun and I got to add an Abe to the joint but tiny and no wine! Great atmosphere though and a place you have to go to when in Savannah!
google avatar

Mark F.

Yelp
Awesome. Hole in wall. Old building in historic district of Savannah. Monday night open mic. Stop by for a few or stay awhile. Great music tonight. Local brews and others on tap.
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
A white, fluffy, effervescent being entered the bar before me. I was intrigued. I had to enter the dark cavern behind it. With much apprehension, I entered the napkin-spotted oasis. Everyone greeted me with a half informed stare, as if they had never seen another human before. They had only ever see plastic cups full of cold, stiff liquor. I was jealous for only a short time, because upon entry, I was greeted with a pony keg of Jameson to pummel into my throat or risk being thrown out in an embarrassing stupor of disappointment Americans. Am I not patriotic enough, if I can't slam over a hundred ounces of America's whiskey? Probably not. The bartender comforted me the second I walked into my new home, making me feel like a god despite my shortcomings. Nothing could change the feeling i had as they slapped down warm jameson and told me to "Take it, pussy!" Nothing could make me feel more at home, like i was sitting in my recliner, staring absent minded into my wife's eyes as i take my blood pressure medication.
google avatar

William F.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite all time bars in Savannah. If you like dive bars I highly recommend coming here. You get a mix of both locals and tourists. I noticed that a lot of people come and go because some may not have anticipated the place to be so small or it may just not be their type of bar. But for me, it's definitely one of my favorites in Savannah. One thing I love about this place is that the drinks are cheap. A PBR will run you about $3. I highly recommend getting an old fashioned wth wild turkey. They put a good amount of alcohol and make sure you get your money's worth. This place has some awesome napkin drawings of Abraham Lincoln on the ceilings and walls. One quirk is that they have a live DJ who comes in on Friday night and sets up a large table spinning set requiring people sitting in that area to relocate to other areas in the bar. The place is limited in space so I advise you to be prepared for the place to get crowded at times. Nonetheless, it's still a must visit bar for anyone who is into dive bars.
google avatar

Christie E.

Yelp
As a local, this is our go to bar in town. Fairly priced, nice employees, and consistently a good time. The place has drawings of Abe everywhere and we love it. I always recommend it to anyone who asks.

Harmony H.

Yelp
I came up for St.Patrick's Day from Panama City beach, they had some awesome wubs going on (rave music for the uncultured) and as a bartender myself they handled the volume amazingly! I just moved to Savannah because I loved the area so much on my trip and this isn't only going to be a stop on a night out but THE SPOT ON A NIGHT OUT!
