A wonderful experience. The proprietor is so friendly and helpful. She explains everything about the house and your room, especially the way the locks work, very carefully. It is so much fun to explore the house. The breakfast was very good. She made very good recommendations about restaurants, especially the Italian restaurant in Salina. We stayed two nights and would have been happy to stay longer to enjoy sitting on the front porch watching cars and people and children and pets go buy on the beautiful large tree lined street. Tip: If someone in your party plays the piano that will be an added bonus for you when they sit down to the baby grand or the upright piana. The Eisenhower Museum is fascinating. Don't miss the city flower garden a three minute walk from the Bed & Breakfast.

Absolutely wonderful! Jay & Adrian were welcoming and friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. The Inn is lovely and decorated beautifully in Victorian antiques. The beds were comfortable, and our room was large with access to the balcony. The breakfast was delicious. We stayed 3 nights and had a wonderful breakfast each morning that was enough to last until dinner. I definitely recommend this Inn if you are heading that way.

Abilene’s Victorian Inn is a very charming, comfortable bed-and-breakfast. You are surrounded by furniture from the era that you can enjoy while reading the many magazines and books available to you. Complementary coffee (which was great), tea, sodas, fresh baked cookies were available all the time. We stayed two nights in the Hazlett room. The room was large, had a king bed, a balcony and was also very quiet. They have a front porch that you can also sit on and enjoy the beautiful surrounding homes. Adrian made us feel very comfortable and was always there to answer any questions that we had. And oh my gosh - our breakfasts were outstanding. Adrian, our sweet hostess and ‘professionally dressed’ chef, served two very unique, delicious breakfast entrées - all picture perfect! Oh, and she has a cookbook that you could order to purchase, which of course I did - if the recipes in there are anything like the breakfast she served us, it will be amazing for sure. Adrian, you and your Victorian bed-and-breakfast are truly a gem. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!

We had a lovely 2-night stay at the Abilene Victorian Inn. The room was comfortable, and well air conditioned during a hot & humid week. The location was walkable to nearby parks, and landmarks (like the largest belt buckle and llebold mansion). The owners were warm & welcoming hosts and the homemade breakfasts, chef-prepared by Adrian, were delicious. Our stay at The Abilene Inn was a perfect blend of comfort, convenience, and hospitality. I recommend it when you are in town.

We thoroughly enjoyed our one night in this beautiful luxurious inn. Adrian and Jay have maintained the historic details of the house so well! There are lovely furnishings, period magazines, and 30’s radio music playing in the background. There are many nice extras (cookies, soda in the fridge, and of course the delicious breakfast) to contribute to this 5-star review.

We were so delighted by staying in this beautiful old mansion. The owners treated us like family. Our room was very comfortable and the breakfast was absolutely wonderful.|My wife has celiac and we were concerned about the food. When we made our reservation we notified Adrien, Chef and owner, that we would need a gluten-free breakfast. She went out of her way to make sure that my wife's breakfast was not only super delicious but gluten-free.|Lovely place to stay - wonderful innkeepers. If we are in Abilene again we will stay here.|Please note to those wishing to stay here - all the rooms are upstairs. You must be able to negotiate 15 - 16 stairs.

So many antiques including the old time radio playing music from the early 1900's in the lobby. Everything right down to the wallpaper and carpet seemed Victorian, but it was spotlessly clean. The owner is a chef by trade and made and served fantastic breakfasts each day. She was also very helpful in giving us information on things to do.

We have very little experience at B&B's and only stayed one night here, as a matter of fact less than 24 hours. Outside, nothing special and parking is in the back of the house with no entry in the back. We were checked in promptly by Adrian and given a history tour of the house and 1st floor before being led to our 2nd floor room. The furnishings are old, as you would expect. Lighting poor and not conducive to reading in the evening. Amenities were adequate with hot and cold water, tea, hot chocolate, cookies, microwave popcorn and movies available at any time. The room (Mamie's Honeymoon Suite) was large & bathroom was a reasonable size. The downside to the room was that every surface was used for knick knacks, making it less usable for travelers. No spot for a laptop. Even a small table in the bathroom had items on it. There was a small shelf above the sink that fit 2 glasses and a tube of toothpaste. My husband used the toilet tank top for his toiletries and I had to go back and forth into the room for my toiletries. Not convenient. Bedside lamps were not bright enough to read under. There were 2 large chairs next to a bright light to read under which was adequate. The bed was comfortable. My remote for the TV had to be held up right in front of the TV to work so there may be a battery issue there. Since it was the middle of July, the A/C was running and the room was very cold. I wasn't meaning to complain but I mentioned that I nearly froze overnight only to be told: No, we keep it at 72 degrees in the house. We keep our house at 70 overnight and I know the difference. I didn't appreciate the contradiction. The food was good, certainly better than hotel breakfast. We had french toast which I don't consider gourmet since I am a seasoned cook and I consider french toast an easy go to. The fruit was very fresh and nicely presented. We ate alone. Not to be caddy but I could teach her something about homemade cookies! Finally, our visit to Abilene was for the Eisenhower complex so it was a one and done. The location of the Inn was a very long walk to the complex and roads were closed along the way. We never met the husband (no big deal). I found Adrian very impersonal. Not a bit interested in us and was barely seen. She never smiled once - just all business. Other family members that stay in B&B's regularly, say that their experience is different and that was strange. Maybe it was an off day for Adrian.

Yelp
This is a nice little b&B in Abilene, is. It's nothing fancy, but appears to be well cared for and they provide a good breakfast. Luxurious? No, but simple, clean and well managed yes. What did I appreciate: lots of hot water in shower, a chair and light in room for reading, breakfast, location near downtown ( walking distance to restaurants). No serious complaints, except the bed was hard for my tastes. Suggestions: spruce up the room a bit by adding a pleasant bed cover. I just read another review and am appalled to hear they screen for "traditional couples only". If that's not true, please tell me and I will eliminate this comment. If it's true , I'm sorry to have supported your business with my stay

Yelp
Just OK. Innkeeper is not very personable, doesn't seem happy and it definitely conveys in conversation. Perhaps the " hospitality" business is not for her. Bed not comfortable at all. Front big Victorian porch underwhelming, needs some serious TLC. Everyone else's surroundings porches were beautiful to gaze at. Breakfast & coffee was good, that's about it.

Yelp
I keep hoping that the reviews about accepting only traditional couples weren't true. There are enough that I decided it probably was. I am a part of a traditional couple, but certainly marked it off. I drove to Salina to stay. Seems like interstate commerce would preclude this type of discrimination.

Wow!!! Incredible hidden treasure. Food is amazing. Rooms are incredible. Spent 2 days at the Inn. Will be back.

Yelp
I stayed at this Inn the night before visiting the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum. This Inn is definitely in the perfect location as far as proximity to the Museum goes - it's just down the street. Perfect! The Inn prefers that you check in during a certain time period so they can ensure they're there to greet you. I had a meeting that resulted in a late arrival on my part, so I called ahead to let them know when I would be arriving and they accommodated easily and kindly. When you arrive, you park at the back of the residence, but you enter at the front of the residence. Those with mobility issues should take note and plan ahead for that. Along that same line, this property does not appear to be wheelchair accessible. All of the rooms I saw were upstairs and the entrance required several stairs to access the porch. However, I may have just not seen other options - calling ahead to ask may be best to make sure. I was greeted by Adrian, who checked me in and showed me around. She was very attentive about what I could/would eat for breakfast the next morning, which implies a lot of experience on her part and being conscientious about not wasting food. I definitely appreciated that. I stayed in the Hurd Room, which was perfect for my needs. I was there in October and the room had a small space heater provided for use, which I was very very grateful for. I know that I'm more sensitive than most to cooler temperatures, so while most people would probably have been fine, I appreciated being able to make the room fit my preferences on my own. There is a large array of movies that you can borrow to watch, most of which are older and asking classic lines which is nice to take a step back and enjoy. There were also cookies and tea available through the evening. I've seen other reviews and noted myself that some bathroom areas can be quite small. However, I saw that as a result of converting Victorian spaces into modern lodging areas. Areas were simply smaller in that era than we're used to now and keeping the integrity of the space has the natural result of cozier accommodations. I personally didn't mind any of it, but I can see how others might. The bed was comfortable, but be aware that this is a typical Kansas town that was built around a railroad station. So trains still run through there very frequently and at all hours of the night. If that will disturb your sleep, plan accordingly. I honestly don't think you can stay anywhere near the museum without that aspect. Breakfast the next morning started with a yogurt, fruit, and granola parfait. Adrian makes the granola herself on site. The entree for that morning was French toast with a fruit reduction and bacon. It was very nice. Overall, it was a very nice stay in a historic home with prices very comparable to any local hotel.

Yelp
Hello, me and my family stayed here at Abilene's Victorian inn, this place is OUTSTANDING! The people were super friendly, the food was amazing, and the rooms were nice and clean. If you are visiting Abiline, I really recommend you stay at this hotel. Owner: you guys are the best people I have ever met! Thank you so much for making us have a wonderful stay. I cannot thank you enough.

Gail F.

Yelp
This is a very clean and well run Victorian bed and breakfast. The Victorian decor is nicely done, not overly done, as we have seen in others inns of this style. The rooms are spotless. The inn is within walking distance of many of Abilen's attractions. But the breakfast, oh, the breakfast. We looked forward each day to the amazing creations by Chef Adrian.

Yelp
This house was built in the 1880's and is a wonderful example of old Abilene in it's hay day. We really enjoyed our breakfasts here! Very hospitable, warm and nostalgic.

Yelp
We loved staying at the Abilenes Victorian inn. Our hosts we friendly and informative. Love to hear the history on the beautiful home. Our Breakfast was excellent. We will be recommending this B&B to all Abilene bound travelers.

Yelp
This place is sweeter than a cake made of pie. A lot of it's been restored to its 1880s style; it's a lovely old home in the middle of a residential neighborhood. We stayed in the Eisenhower room (complete with a giant picture of Ike!) and it was comfortable and well-kept. The balcony is fantastic. One of the owners had fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies ready for us when we checked in (!!!!). Our suite had a (tiny! so tiny) bathroom. We were shown the cabinet full of VHS tapes in case we wanted to watch a movie (ADORABLE). But here's the best part - you know how most B&Bs throw some danish and a cup of coffee at you in the morning? Not this place. They asked my husband when he booked if we had any dietary restrictions and he mentioned that I avoid wheat when I can, but that it's not really a big deal. And when the breakfast part of the B&B experience came around... there was an epically delicious frittata, orange juice, coffee, fresh fruit, and while the other guests had fresh-baked biscuits, I got a big ol' slice of HOMEMADE, gluten-free banana bread. I am not even freaking kidding, you guys. How amazing is that? If we ever have a reason to stay in Abilene again, we'll be staying here.

Yelp
Stayed two nights at this property. Good: Breakfast was delicious. Bed was comfortable. interior was clean. OK: Decor feels very traditional to the period. Cable TV was good. Hard to put it in words, but didn't feel fresh --maybe a lack of fresh air. NOT SO GOOD: WiFi was very spotty even for basic email and browsing. Outdoor space (front porch) could be lovely but was not maintained well. Debris all over and some of the chair cushions were falling apart. Signs in front yard needed repair. Temperature in room and common area was inconsistent. Very warm first night and then OK second night. Seemed like the host turned the air off or up to save $$$ which made it uncomfortable at times. Brought to host's attention and it was suggested I use a natural remedy. THE UNACCEPTABLE: Did not realize this when I made the reservation and did not see until after our stay, but buried in the fine print of the "policies" is a statement that they cater to "traditional" couples. If I had seen this prior to our visit, I would not have patronized this business and will not ever patronize this business in the future and cannot recommend it to anyone. I think we are a "traditional" couple (whatever that really means) but do not support a business that discriminates against anyone.

Yelp
I am aghast. I tried to book a room at a B&B in Abilene, Kansas a couple years ago. I asked some general questions and decided to book. The owner asked for my name (I told her) and my wife's name (ummmm....there's no wife). I told her the name of the other guest (a man). I was asked if I wanted two rooms (NO). Did I want 2 beds? (NO). I was informed that they will not rent to same-sex couples. I was speechless. Dumbfounded. Really? In this day and age? You would turn down $100/night? She did offer the name of another B&B that allows same-sex couples, but still..... I suppose the inn is as lovely as the photographic depictions on the website. I cannot say for sure, since it was made clear that my partner and I were not welcome. As a result, the local Holiday Inn Express did get my business. It was comfortable, had a pool, was less expensive and such private matters as sexual identity weren't conditions for securing lodging. If you are a same sex couple, know that you are not welcome at this establishment (unless, perhaps, you wish to pay for separate rooms and contribute financially to innkeepers with discriminatory practices). To all others, please avoid Abilene's Victorian Inn. Discrimination is simply unacceptable. Note: Their website does say the following under POLICIES: "Overnight accommodations for singles and traditional couples." Also note that POLICIES is a tiny link at the very bottom of their web pages. It is not listed in the prominent main banner at the top of the pages. When I visited the POLICY page, I was looking for the cancellation policy. I wouldn't think to look for a "who is welcome and who is not" policy.

Yelp
I've stayed here and have had some unpleasant experience with staff and now while I was asleep my room was cleaned and I had some thing of mine thrown away and no agreement to make things right or my items replaced

Yelp
If you want a warm welcome, elegant surroundings, and the best gourmet breakfast you have ever had, stay at Abilene's Victorian Inn. When you stay there I suggest that you ask the hostess about the history of the Inn, at which time you will find that you are sharing quarters with some of Abilene's most interesting and historic characters. We always try to stay at at the Inn when we are in Abilene. But try to make your reservations early because a lot of other people like to stay there too. The warm reception and amazing breakfasts keep us all coming back.

Yelp
Another wonderful stay with adrian and Jay! I cannot believe there would be a bad review. We've been staying here for years, even with the previous owners. We stay at lots of B&Bs and this one is hard to beat. Beautiful accommodations, excellent chef prepared breakfast. Extremely knowledgeable about the town. DO STAY HERE!

Teresa D.

Yelp
Beautiful inn. Owners very warm and welcoming and the owner/chef accommodated my need for a plant-based/vegan breakfast which was delicious! Couldn't have been more pleased with our stay!

Christine M.

Yelp
My husband and I were so looking forward to staying at this beautiful Inn but could not in good conscience keep our reservation ... When our reservation email arrived it states that "children 6 and over - Singles and "TRADITIONAL Couples " are welcome as guests. This information is not disclosed on the website BEFORE the reservation is made. Given the fact that same sex couples have the right to marry this policy is terribly discriminatory and sad. If you are running a public business then you should serve all of the public ..... Is this even legal in Kansas ??!!

Becky H.

Yelp
We visited the Presidential library in town and needed a one night stay. We've always loved B&B's and reading about this one, well...we booked. I must say, we were definitely not let down! The home is beautifully decorated with 1940's music softly playing throughout the house. We stayed in the Hazelette room and loved it. Very roomy and comfortable bedding AND a lovely balcony to enjoy the spring weather. Breakfast was absolutely DELICIOUS. Adrian is a fantastic CHEF! She is such a joy to sit and visit with, is a huge supporter of her town and other local businesses and just a joy to be around! If you are in Abilene, you simply must stay here! Convenient to all areas in Abilene!

Kenya D.

Yelp
To begin, the property, itself, is fine. While the decor seems strangely organized, the B&B is clean overall (it reminded me of visiting my grandmother's home). I needed to visit Abilene in order to conduct research at the Eisenhower Presidential Library and while making reservations with the caretaker, "Doc," he offered to pick me up from the Wichita Airport. In his words, he would pick me up "for a fee of $60 or $70 whatever you feel comfortable with." Coming from Los Angeles, I had little idea how far Wichita was from Abilene and felt his offer was excellent--I could save money and not worry about the hassle of finding a small Kansas town late at night. When my plan arrived, "Doc" was prompt and the rest of my stay was charming. On my last evening, I received a bill $60 higher than expected and was told by "Doc" that his picking me up was more taxing than he expected and therefore in that moment, his shuttle fee has gone from $70 to $130 he then went on to try to convince me that I came out ahead regardless because I didn't have to drive myself. In short, I caution visitors to possibly avoid any offers of "extras" at the Abilene Bed and Breakfast. Prices are apparently fluid and subject to radical change at any moment.

Yelp
We stayed on the top floor. It was spacious enough to comfortably accommodate my mother (her 70th birthday) and four of her daughters. The Innkeepers are warm and welcoming. Adrian made a gourmet breakfast that was to die for. This would be a great place for a girls weekend getaway.

Frances W.

Yelp
Adrien went out of her way to be accommodating, checking for food intolerances, and making us a delicious, gourmet gluten-free breakfast. The decor is lovely and period and the ambiance charming. Our room was large and well-appointed and we had a perfect stay. I highly recommend this inn.

Tracey E.

Yelp
I submitted a request for a reservation at Abilene's Victorian Inn. I am hearing impaired and do not talk via telephone. The owner of the inn insisted that the only way she would accept a reservation request was by telephone. Initially, she told me she doesn't like to use e-mail for security reasons. Later, she claimed it was a time management issue. But in the meantime, we exchanged numerous e-mails and could have handled this matter amicably by e-mail. She refused to work with me, and I did not stay there. I was disappointed and found her service and unwillingness to accommodate my hearing loss unacceptable. Because she was so inconsiderate of my situation, I will never stay there. Nor would I recommend the inn to others.

Yelp
Stayed there, other than some very minor things wife and I could not expected better. On our way to Denver, will stay there on our way back to Ohio next week if timeallows

Yelp
I wanted to share our experience visiting the Victorian Inn. My brother and I wanted to take our 82 year old father out for a boys weekend adventure. It started in Abilene and the first stop was this bed and breakfast. What a way to kick off the trip! My dad had never been to a B&B before and Adrian met us at the door to welcome us. She showed us around the first floor and we were quickly taken with the charm of the home. She really made us feel like family. When Jay, her husband arrived, he grabbed my dads bags and escorted us to our quarters on the third floor. We had the entire thing to ourselves. He pointed out all the details of our room. The deck off the master room, the temp control, the fridge and then invited us down for home made cookies in the dining room. The beds were spacious and comfortable. We lounged on the back balcony for a visit before grabbing our chocolate chip cookies. Sitting in the parlor we listened to 1930's big band music from the upright vintage radio. My dad was in paradise talking to us about some of his childhood memories! We even took a group picture wearing the parlor hats adorning the sitting room. After a great nights sleep we headed for the dining room. The breakfast was formal as we dined with six other guests. Adrian, who is a Chef, started us with creamy yogurt topped with granola with assorted fruit on the side. Then Walnut Carmel French toast, crisp bacon just the way I like it, coffee and juice. After a breakfast like this we we ready for the day! Thank you Adrianne and Jay for making this family event one we will never forget!
