This place has a crazy story to it, so unless you know the full story, you'll probably misunderstand this place. This used to be an amazing resort right on the beach. The owner built this place up and really worked hard to make it what it was. He is a super cool German guy who used to be a DJ in Holland, and is the true "old head DJ" that anyone in the industry would want to know (with the most amazing stories). However, if you know the story of this city (Sihanoukville)...you know that they have displaced many people to build a Las Vegas style city. However, due to hundreds of projects failing around COVID times (and some other fishy stuff), there are hundreds of half-built abandoned skyscrapers and an soulless city. The development is everything wrong about this world and how cities should be developed. The beautiful beachfront that used to go right up to the villas here is now a parking lot, and the famous beach across the road is the most disgusting cookie cutter development appealing to only Chinese tourist. Most signs are in Chinese, and some don't even display the local language. Nightclubs with specifically terrible music (and this is coming from someone who loves electronic music) is played all night long. To make matters worse, the city will demolish this entire resort soon. It is the saddest thing ever, and the horror story that is Sihanoukville. The same thing is about to happen to Koh Rong and Koh Rong Sanloem too, but in just a few years time. All this being said, we absolutely loved our evening here. We sat and talked with the owner for hours about music, techno, parties of the past, old rock bands...and everything under the sun. I can honestly say I had some of the best conversation I have had in a long time tonight. The owner is literally getting the worse thrown at him, but stays in the best spirits possible about it. I in no way regret staying here, and feel glad to support such a good dude who is taking it all on the chin. He's literally the next to get displaced in this town...with the red spray paint coming right up to his entry way. Sihanoukville is NOT a place to visit or support. Sihanoukville is a shell of city built with the worst possible intentions. It is everything that a city should not be. But, if you find yourself here for 1 day after getting off the boat from Koh Rong...stay here! You will be glad you did, and have stories for a lifetime. Staying anywhere in the newer hotels is a total crapshoot on what you will get, and you are most likely supporting everything you are probably against in the world. I know this review may sound over-the-top...but I highly recommend that if you do stay here one day, rent a tuk-tuk, and ask the driver to show you around town. You will see that it is something apocalyptic.
