ABQ BioPark Zoo

We had a really nice time at the ABQ BioPark Zoo. It was fun for the kids and very easy to enjoy at a relaxed pace. One of the highlights for us was the polar bear enclosure, it was really impressive and well done. The animals all seemed well cared for, and the zoo itself was clean and easy to navigate. The cost was also very reasonable (for out of state guests), especially when you do the combo tickets with the aquarium, which made it feel like a great value overall. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in the area, especially with kids. My son also loved learning about the chimpanzee with only one arm and although it is sad that they only have one arm is was a great learning opportunity to teach him that sometimes animals and people look different and its ok!

I’ve never seen a zoo with peacocks just openly walking around! There’s also a spot where you can buy food and feed some animals. The buildings are kept very cool and the animals appear to be well taken care of. A lot of information is displayed about ongoing zoo events and the animals of course.

For visiting on a cold winter day, we had a good experience. Because some of the park was under renovation and some animals were off display to be warmer indoors, ticket prices were heavily reduced. But for only $8 per person we enjoyed seeing all we did. Shoutout to the cockatoo who made our day.

I absolutely loved my visit to the ABQ BioPark! The highlight was the adorable new baby hippo — what an incredible addition. It was so beautiful to walk around the park; everything felt peaceful and well cared for. The giraffes and zebras were amazing to watch, and the staff members were friendly and helpful. The pathways were clean, shaded, and easy to navigate, making it a really enjoyable walk. I highly recommend getting a membership — it’s very practical and includes access to all areas of the BioPark, including the Zoo, Aquarium, and Botanic Garden. It’s such a great deal, especially if you plan to visit more than once or bring family and friends. This is a wonderful place for families, couples, or anyone who enjoys animals and nature. I can’t wait to come back soon to see how the baby hippo grows!

The young lady at the entrance was really kind and treated me like someone special. Being a member of RHZ she got me into both the zoo and the aquarium for half price. If you're going to be going to the zoo I'd highly recommend getting the package deal of the zoo and aquarium for a really reduced price. They are only two miles apart but we'll worth going to both. As for the zoo nice and clean animals look healthy and they are doing some remodeling to make it even better.

I love our zoo. Its much nicer than many we have been to. There is a great selection of animals to view: elephants, hippos, rhino, zebra, giraffes, polarbear, but to name a few. I love the fact that the animals have the choice to be out in their enclosures or inside where they have temperature controlled environments. That does may mean, however, that if animals choose to be inside, you will not see them. Sometimes I walk around twice just to double check. In the summer, it's always good to go early in the morning. There have been some great changes to the habitats at the zoo. The animals really do have great space. However, there has been ongoing construction due to this, and it seems about 1/3 of the zoo is currently closed. Four more habitat construction. I have been super excited about most of the changes except for the Australia shores. That has been disappointing after the big build up to its opening. The paths are well maintained, and zoo well mapped out. It's great that even in the heat of the summer, many of the areas are shaded by trees. You can always pop into the Penguin Chill to cool down and watch these cute amazing little creatures. It's always entertaining. There is also the reptile house and indoor amphibian exhibit. While the cost of entry is low compared to some other zoos, unfortunately the food prices inside are exorbitant. You might wish to pack a lunch or take snacks, and water in the hot summer. There are water bottle, refilling stations throughout the park. I do really miss the train and think it's a shame that the shuttle is no longer in service. One thing I think really needs to be remedied. Overall it really is a great zoo worth visiting.

While season can affect what animals are active and when, going when it's lunchtime can ensure the most popular beings like the chimps, orangutans and elephants are out on display. Most of the displays are spacious and allow for movement and enjoyment. I have a photo of a very unhappy tiger in a small cage from the 1970s, so these environments made me happy. The aquarium, botanical garden and zoo are worth visiting if you're here as tourist.

We enjoyed our visit even though many exhibits were closed for maintenance. Our visit coincided with the NM State Fair and the zoo obviously wasn't expecting many visitors. Still, we had some surprisingly sweet encounters - an older gentleman playing his violin for the giraffes, a baby orangutan pressed up against the bars to get as close as possible to a fan, and a beautiful ostrich standing in line (?) to get ice cream!

So, we have been to plenty of zoo's. This was the first zoo we went to with our new born. This is a super cute zoo, the animal conditions are insanely nice. Huge fan of that. It's small, not expensive, and a great date spot too. The Koi pond is really cool in the beginning, and they have plenty of little cafes. The little park area in the beginning is perfect for a nice little picnic. This is nicer than the austin zoo in Texas, but not as big as Dallas or Houston. No need for that. Staff are very friendly, probably the friendliest we have encountered. Go and enjoy

This was a fun Zoo to visit while I was in Albuquerque. I enjoy visiting the zoos in different cities that I visit, but I was spoiled growing up regularly visiting a large Zoo and Wild Animal Park in California. My brother and I had a great time walking around the BioPark Zoo, but unfortunately the day we came, several areas were closed for construction/remodeling and several animals we came to see were not out. Whether that was due to the heat or other reasons, I understand, but still disappointing -- we still got to see a lot of great animals and a good Zoo. I would love to give them 5-stars, but between several closed exhibits, we missed out on some of the experience. The next time I am in town, I will likely keep the ABQ BioPark Zoo on my list of attractions to visit, because some of the construction they were working on looked like they would be adding some new areas and other improvements to the park, and I would be excited to see what's in store for them. I would also love to see some of the animals we missed this trip.

Everyone and his cousin is here today. Terrible trying to find a parking spot. The Penguin chill is always fun, but they need someone to go in and wipe down the inside of the Monroe's, and eliminate the algae. The cottonwood cafe now is all digital and sky high prices. They still are revamping the zoo, and the monkeys and orangutans have much larger cooler habitats. Saw the elephants being fed kale and celery by their keeper Zack. Lots of walking to explore! We had a great day, but the food prices are sky high. $10 for a waffle cone! We made our way out safely and did the coin swirl by the exit, only to have some nasty little boy reach in to steal the spinning coins. We did it again with other bits of change! We will be back soon to see the improvements.

Many of the animals were out and lots of babies! What a wonderful surprise to see animal babies. There is a lot of shade and grassy areas. There wasn't many eating options or much that was open. The gift shop was also sparse and you had to do self-checkout which was weird. My favorite exhibit was the penguins! What a wonderful addition.

I've been coming to this zoo for nearly 40 years since I was a child and it's always a great experience. Seems a lot of the zoo is under construction right now, can't wait to see what it looks like when it's done. I was kinda sad to see that the seals are gone and that we're down to the last polar bear. The new penguin exhibit is very nice though! The staff up front was very helpful and friendly too.

This looked like a really nice zoo but sadly a lot of animals weren't out because of the heat, including the polar bear, wolves and others. They do have a cool bird exhibit where you can feed birds honey in a cage.

I've been an ABQ resident for over 30 years. My last visit to the Zoo was in the late 90's. At that time, I wasn't impressed with the layout, facilities, or overall quality and environment. We just visited the Zoo in early June and I have to give credit where credit is due. The Zoo has made significant improvements over the years. Nice layout, attractions, displays, and most importantly to me, the cleanliness of the grounds, bathrooms, snack bar areas, restaurants. My favorite attractions were the giraffes, tigers, primates, and penguin exhibit. Well done. Admission Prices are very reasonable. Buy a family annual pass as it's worth it for a family of four or more. Parking is plentiful and they even offer limited cover parking. A few of the exhibits were closed which is always disappointing. As with all my reviews, there are some negatives. Admission prices are reasonable considering it's a taxpayer funded attraction. No issues there. However, I find it appalling that the city charges ridiculously high prices for food, snacks, and drinks. $40.00 for a pizza? $12.00 for a hot dog? Drinks were exorbitantly overpriced. $10.00 for a small cup of Dipping Dots? Ripoff! This location is taxpayer funded. Charging these ridiculous prices needs to stop. It should be an affordable place for everyone to enjoy. Families should be able to treat themselves without having to spend a small mint just to feed their families. Shame on the management and leadership! Change needs to happen. This is unacceptable.

It's been a few years since I been to the zoo. I do remember being better. There alot of construction work going on so hopefully it means new exhibits. Plus alot exhibits were closed too. Definitely needs attention cause you can tell some of the exhibits needed upgrades cause they haven't been touched for a while. You can still see some cool animals but I did feel some animals needed more space to explore cause they look really sad. My daughter still enjoy the zoo.

The zoo has changed a lot and it's so exciting to go to now. Very beautiful prices are still high but food is to die for.

It's been several years since I've been to the abq zoo. Several improvements have been made. We enjoyed the day here. Our friends from tx loved this zoo experience.

Great zoo and admission is super reasonable. Annual membership is a fantastic deal and includes the aquarium and botanical gardens.

It's been a year, and nothing has changed. Don't bother coming here. All the signs still advertise "coming soon". Yeah, right.

The Albuquerque Bio Park is amazing. It keeps getting better! We purchased 1 adult, 1 senior tickets. Total was $15.50; seems very reasonable. There was a lot to see even though many animals were in their shelters. The penguins are so fun. They have worked hard on this place!

We love to take walks at the zoo when it's not below 60 degrees. Always happy to see new animals and exhibits. There is a wide variety of critters to see. They provide written signage to explain a bit about where the animals are from! Most of the animals have ample room. The staff is helpful and the zoo keeps upgrading their habitats! The grounds are well kept. There is a large grassy area, perfect for a picnic or a rest under the trees on a hot day! There are benches for those who like to take a rest and viewing areas for some of the larger exhibits. They have great special events to celebrate specific animals and ecological interests! They have gift stores that carry lot's of interesting items! Good for Birthday shopping and holiday gifts! I would love it if they had healthier food options. But kids love the food there! We usually take a lunch with us. Do visit the zoo! It's one of Albuquerques gems!

Wow, a full day experience, we definitely underestimated the vast expansive experience this Zoo had to offer- we arrived at the zoo early in the morning, expecting to spend an hour or two walking around before moving on to the aquarium & botanical gardens, but oh wow- we spent way more time & could have even spent even more exploring! A super affordable price, easy ample parking, stroller friendly, convenient ability to bring items in They had a great variety between the larger exhibits, big animals, smaller exhibit houses to see a vast variety of tiny animals in a row, and specialty animals- add on the big park area playgrounds and photo opt spots there was so much to see I will admit there were a few woes though: -there seemed to be a lot of areas under construction at once, so when we'd trek all the way to an exhibit, the sign would say the animal was moved somewhere else- and family (who live & visit frequently said this has been ongoing) -there were a decent chunk of empty exhibits in a row- which led to us walking a lot to see nothing & backtracking -thankfully they allow food/drink to be brought in because everything on site was ridiculously overpriced would visit again & plan to spend more time-

This is a wonderful place to spend a few hours with your friends or family. This zoo has standard draws: elephants, monkeys, zebras, and flamingos.  So your average child will be very happy visiting. I really enjoyed the African aviary--the creaky wooden bridge to walk in on was a little bit of adventure, too! The amphibian exhibit has a lot of activity, much in small tanks. It's definitely worth checking out. The hippo habitat was a crowd pleaser. We arrived during play time. This is absolutely the best time! The hippos were playing with a ball, splashing around their habitat. There is an expansion project in progress right now: Australia experience.  I look forward to seeing how that turns out. A large section of the park is committed to this. If you are visiting Albuquerque, consider spending some time here.

We had a great time seeing all the animals. Staff was friendly and helpful. My son took tons of pictures. Loved the free roaming peacocks. We named one Kevin.

The new Asia exhibit area is amazing. They have really made the area very welcoming and the views of the animals are amazing. I look forward to the other new things to come.

Ok, I made a mistake and went about an hour before they closed- my fault! However, I will be back again AND it was still a great experience. What I was able to see was amazing. I was so shocked to see a beautiful peacock by the entrance. It was so calm , I thought it was fake! There are several roaming the grounds- so beautiful to see! Some of the exhibits are being moved, like the catwalk so I will go back to see that. It is a pretty large zoo so I would recommend starting early in the day as it may take a full day to really see everything! As I said the experience is as great on this first visit and I will be back! If you haven't been, or are new to ABQ , I suggest you take a look! The price was super affordable too and there was ample parking. I did think that some of the animals seemed unhappy but what do I know? lol! It was close to closing time and so maybe they wanted to finish up their "shift" and relax! We all want to be Dr. Doolittle and act like we can talk to the animals- lol!

Went to the zoo early morning to just enjoy myself and relieve stress. Animals were alert and I'm so glad that I got to visit the Penguin Exhibit, see the cheetahs, hyaenas, giraffes, primates and walk the zoo, crowd-free. Have a fabulous visit

To be fair, we went at a bad time: half the exhibits were closed due to construction and most of the birds were in hiding due to avian flu risks. I do think that, once the construction is complete, thile zoo will be awesome. We got to see a lot of the big cats, hippos, reptile house, amphibian house, elephants from a distance, zebras, primates, and a few others. The restaurants and carousel were closed, but I did see sharks you on the carousel (who doesn't want to ride a shark). Parking was free and admission for 4 was just over $30! That's the cost of one zoo ticket most other places!

There is so much potential here, but it is now overgrown and unkempt. While there are lots of employees standing around, none are willing to help visitors and only one was taking care of the gardens. Don't waste your time or money.

I know Albuquerque would not have a huge zoo, but it actually enjoyable. Prices are out the roof here for anything you decide to eat, drink, or buy. That was sad since the economy is not great these days and I saw people walk away from food or beverage line. I was so disappointed, no penguins, or birds, no bears, no dolphins, etc. lots of construction means not much to see as I would have liked. I did enjoy the giraffes, elephants. No lion today, bummer. But there was a snow leopard. Water was $5.50, water folks.

A very nice zoo! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The exhibits are large and varied. We appreciated that there was shade throughout the park and several exhibit buildings with air conditioning to cool off in.

The Zoo was PACKED for Mothers Day. The upgrades that have been done have made this a must see for Residents and Visitors. The Mothers Day price was more than the daily price, it was $12.00, they didn't let our out of town Visitors use their Discount from Boise Zoo Membership, none of this is spelled out on their website. The parking lot was full and I have Mobility Issues so we parked further away. The issue I have is that the ability to find and reserve Accessibility Equipment to visit the Zoo is almost impossible on their website. We found the wheelchairs were sold out the day before and the ability to find any information about renting an Electric Scooter was impossible, even with numerous calls. We ended up renting from a local Company that delivered to the House and picked up, but it was pricey. When you visit the Penguins they have a Selfie Photo op and you save your number and use the machine to have it sent to you. That had a huge line. The baby Gorilla and Urangatan were adorable! They have Security checking bags for Guns, Drugs and that is so appreciated. They do sell Alcohol drinks at the Kiosks along the way and that was surprising. Tequila in a Can. They are expanding the Austrailian portion and it wasn't done yet, but let me tell you for a smaller Zoo they have done so much!

The Cottonwood Café in the zoo has great food! they make their own potato chips and great french fries. We had the turkey sandwich that had chili and guacamole on it that was great

I absolutely loved this zoo. It's not the biggest zoo but there is plenty of animals to see and it's a nice walk. Start on one end and it makes a giant loop. First time in Albuquerque so I tried to do as many things as I could and the zoo was on my list. It's decently priced admission for it's size as they do offer a military discount. The worker at the front was helpful and told us upfront certain exhibits were closed due to the weather and keeping their animals safe. They are currently doing construction to add more exhibits to the zoo but it's not evasive. You can still enjoy the zoo with the construction going on. They food prices are ridiculously priced but you're able to bring in outside food so I'd recommend doing that instead of standing in line and being flabbergasted by the prices. Think of airport prices.... but higher. I went with my family and my nieces and nephew had a blast. There were so many animals to see and they were out and about. I know it's crazy but this is the first time I've actually seen a polar when a zoo says they have one. I was extremely excited. Lots of the animals were out and about and those that were hiding we made a game out of who could spot them hiding. Also the giraffe exhibit was amazing. They have five giraffes and they were all out and about. I'd love to go back when they have the different animal talks and shows going on again. Overall a very nice zoo for it's size.

Been coming here since elementary school (now almost 30!) And it's very nostalgic Was there recently and saw the new penguin exhibit- was awesome. Excited to eee the new Asia expansion when it's done!

This is by far my favorite zoo. Makes El Paso zoo feel like the Flintstones while this zoo is the Jetsons. Although I hadn't been in 5 yrs, and bummed to see the monkey enclosure is no longer there, I gotta say this zoo rocks! First, let me start by saying that as a plant lover, I appreciate the variety.of plants and trees throughout the park. There is a lot of shade and seating areas. Misters would be my only suggestion to make this a but bearable during the 100+ degree weather. I love the enclosures and think they really outdid themselves. There's so much room for the animals and you can tell they're well taken care of. They have an impressive group of big cats and wild birds too. The reptile exhibit is very cool too. You are allowed to bring coolers and they have a nice park area to picnic and paddleboats. A bottle water for 6.75 was excessive though. We usually don't eat anything at the park since there are so many dining options outside the park so can't comment on the food and snacks. But El Paso can definitely take a page out ABQ zoo. This is gow its done.

This is an excellent zoo! We came later in the day at 3 pm so we just had 2 hours to get through it as it does close at 5 pm. Honestly. Come late! The animals are feeding at that time and they are super active and out and about. The layout is super walkable and we also had a wheelchair. Very accessible. The exhibits are very interactive. You really do go into some of the enclosures in a way which is awesome. This is probably second only to the the national zoo in Washington DC that we have been to. Helpful staff. Clean pens and enclosures. We loved it.

A lot of animals unavailable to view. Many animals were ABSENT such as the reptiles, tigers, polar bears etc. I assume they released them back into the wild. The animals we saw appear not to want anything to do with humans. They were sleeping in the other direction. However, the penguins in the Penguin chill building looked like they were having fun. The penguins were swimming and diving. Come to the zoo if you wanna walk cause there's a lot of walking you can do. Come to the zoo if you wanna eat and drink cause there's plenty of that. Make sure you got plenty of funds cause the food and drinks are pricy. Like a snocone is $10 and drink $8 and up. Come to the zoo if you wanna chill under the trees on a bench, smell the fresh air and watch the ducks in the ponds. Come to the zoo if you want to take your kids on a carousel. If you just want to CHILL for the day the zoo is a good place to go. But if you want to go see ACTION go somewhere else.

Super cool Paquin exhibit!! They did an amazing job with the presentation and set up of the Paquin exhibit. As zoos go this is a nice one. Knowledgeable about the animals they are working with and excited to share information. They have the drinking fountains with the water bottle filling set up too which is awesome! Overall it was a great experience and if you have children there is lots for them to see and do!

The café at the food court if you go in, you have to order first and pay then you wait for them to call your number or your name or you get a little pager that buzzes. The food is much to be desired. They can make an excellent cheeseburger, but they're fries or chips are usually overcooked or burnt. Their service there is much to be desired. They don't have service really the cash register girl told me to go look for my own napkins when I asked her for napkins because they weren't stocked in the area where we were. And the staff that they have working in, there is just rude, they don't act polite at all or kind or smile or are even happy that they're there. It's really sad because they represent the zoo and the zoo is a wonderful place to be and visit. I highly recommend you visit the zoo. I highly recommend you stay away from that café.

Well, this zoo is actually really great, BUT, they DID NOT note on the website to purchase tickets anywhere online or that this was the only way to go to the zoo or that the ticket were limited. We came from Phx to go to the zoo and had we known to purchase the tickets online we would have been able to go. This was a lack of communication on the BioPark and I am very disappointed. We drove behind the zoo and I got to see my elephants, though, from afar. Please, make a note on your website I this doesn't happen to other people!

Decent size zoo with multiple animals in display. Some construction is currently going on but does not interfere with your visit.

Our zoo just keeps getting better and better! It's been a while since we last visited the BioPark and I can't believe how much it has changed! Our nephews LOVED the new carousel and the price is so reasonable at $2/pp! There are so many little cafes and shops everywhere now too. The misters were a huge help in the hot July sun! We spent about 4 hours at the zoo and only saw about 1/3 of the animals. A part of that is because visiting with two kids under 6 years old is one heck of a workout. But the other part is because there is just so much to see! There are so many little events like animal feedings or the trains or just plain changing exhibits. This is a place where you will not be bored! It is also nice to see so many places where you can sit and just enjoy the exhibits or rest your feet.

I enjoyed going to this zoo. I purchase my tickets online. I wanted to get a combo deal with the aquarium and the botanic gardens, but they said they do not offer that. We just bought tickets to the zoo. It's $14.50 for an adult if you are a non resident, but if your a New Mexico resident it is $10 for adults. It's $6 for non residents for a child and $5 for New Mexico residents. We went on a weekday and on a cloudy, windy day. It was a little chilly, but the animals were really active. It wasn't really crowded when we around 930am. The only thing that we didn't see were the gorillas. They probably didn't like the weather and didn't want to come out. We spent about 3 hours there. We could have gotten done sooner, but we waited for the hippos to come out. At first we only saw one, but then two more came out including a baby hippo. We watched them eat and swim for awhile and it was so cute to watch. The zoo is pretty easy to navigate around and is pretty flat with no strenuous walking up and down. You can bring your own food as long as it is not catered. They are expanding the zoo, so there is construction in some areas. They are putting in a kiddie train. The construction was going on where the animals were, so it wasn't a big deal. Would love to come back again if I ever come back to Albuquerque!

Setting is beautiful but too little shade or seating and $7 for water or $10 for a soda - and that's after they've drained millions of dollars in taxes from our community.

It's still a really great place to go during the cooler parts of the day. Everything was clean, no problems with people, things moved quickly, and it was a fun time. Parking could be better, but that's not a new compliant.

Been here for for over 3yrs and this is the 1st time I've been here. After a great(and filling) breakfast we need to walk this off. Since we were nearby the zoo, what better way to spend a morning. We got there right as it opened, so the line to get in was short. We walked past the food stands and gift kiosk, the gift shop is closed. Then we began meandering thru the park. Lots of exhibits and the usual assortment animals, reptiles, amphibians and insects from all over the world. The penguin exhibit was quite a draw. There were a couple of different viewing levels so you could get multiple perspectives. Had to come home and watch "March of the Penguins" after this. The other big draw was the hippos and the newest addition born a month earlier. Unfortunately, quite a few of the animals were in the shade escaping heat and sun. They were visible, but inactive. The monkey exhibit was closed and elephants were out of view. Oh well. One thing that I noticed was repurposing of wood, tree trunks and railroad ties to mention a few. Nice to see they didn't end up in a landfill somewhere. The other thing I liked was the info plaques. They showed not only range of the exhibit , but it's status from "not concerned" to critically endangered or extinct in the wild. Plus breeding efforts to help restore some endangered populations. Not a bad walk in the park. Dress appropriately with shoes appropriate to walking - we covered about 1.5 miles. There are plenty of places to purchase drinks. However I suggest bringing your own. $4 for bottled water gets expensive. Bring your mask, they're required for indoor exhibits. One other bonus - there is a huge grassy area, great for picnics if you are so inclined.

ABQ zoo is beautiful, and it has many animals a lot of zoos don't have, such as penguins and Tasmanian devils. The zoo is well designed and very walkable. There are many activities for families too including pedal boats, a train which goes from the zoo to the botanical gardens, a carousel, and oftentimes special animal shows. A great aspect about the ABQ zoo is that there are usually many docents around who can answer questions about the animals and provide personal stories about specific animals. I forgot to mention the zoo has an excellent elephant exhibit where we saw three elephants playing in a huge clean pool. ABQ biopark (zoo, botanical gardens plus aquarium) is one of Albuquerque's best attractions. I go there often because I see something new ever time I go.

Let me start by saying this is the most thrilling zoo I have ever been to! Why you ask? Certain exhibits have an element of suspense. For example, the white rhino exhibit. Is it because you get to ride the rhinos or feed them or something crazy like that? No, strictly because I feel as though if the rhinos really wanted to get out of the exhibit they could. Same could be said for the hippos. But if you want tamer thrills, you can feed the giraffes at a certain time. I liked this zoo a lot and I'm still blown away by how much greenery there was throughout. ABQ gets a lot of help from the Rio Grande (unlike EP because the Rio Grande's flow is restricted here... wah wah wah), but they've done a great job of planting a lot of foliage and large grassy areas. For the amount of time we spent at the zoo (3+ hours), I'd say the price is well worth it. Right now two adults are $20, but with a military discount for both people (you both have to show ID) we paid only $14. Nice! My favorite exhibit was the polar bear. Although they only have one, he was a playful guy and he clearly likes crowds. Any time a large crowd gathered he'd dive off the top of his faux rocks and grab a toy. And I say "any time" because we went twice. Right now they do seem to have a lot of construction going on so it will be interesting to see what it's like in a few months to a year. And also it seemed like all of the animals were well taken care of... even to the point that if an animal was sick or just had a baby, they had signs out to let you know that the animals are being treated. One interesting thing that happened while we were there, we went by the howler monkey exhibit and it had a sign that the monkeys will sometimes howl (hence the names), but it's more of a waiting game. I was curious what they sounded like so I Youtubed a video of other howler monkeys. The howler monkey's at the ABQ Zoo reciprocated the calls. Pretty cool and I definitely didn't think they would do it back haha. I'd say this is a medium/large sized zoo. At this time (this may change once construction is done), you can make it through the zoo comfortably in four hours (five if you want to take a one hour break), but you could make this an all day event if you throw in the botanical garden and aquarium which a train can run you to.

Beautiful zoo! This is one of the best and most enjoyable zoos I've ever seen, and I've been to top 25 zoos before. The animals seem very healthy and happy. And yes, that one roadrunner is just injured. I have fun every time I visit this zoo and I recommend it to any tourists I meet. (I know this profile says I live in California, but I don't.) It's a real shame there's no advertisements. Another hidden gem In this zoo is the food. The pizza is really good, but my favorite thing is the grilled cheese. It is one of the best grilled cheeses I've ever tasted. The ducks and peacocks are all over the eating area, but that's what makes it fun. My favorite exhibits are the new Asia exhibits, which I hope boost this zoo onto the national top 10 list, the polar bears, the gorillas, and the African birds. I've seen some other reviews on TripAdvisor that say stuff like "the animals have no privacy", or "some of the animals have no shade or water on hot days", but I'm here to tell you that if it looks like they are suffering in the scorching summer sun with no water while being stared upon by tens of onlookers, they are choosing to do that. All zoo exhibits have an indoor shelter, an outdoor section hidden from viewers, or both. I have gotten all of my info on this zoo and the treatment of the animals from zookeepers and zoo volunteers. Just because the entrances to indoor or hidden areas for animals are hidden doesn't mean they aren't there. In conclusion, anyone visiting or living in Albuquerque should definitely visit the ABQ biopark zoo and botanical gardens. (Fun fact: there's a porcupine that lives up on one of the overgrown shades at the botanical garden! He is usually sleeping up in the roots covering the shade and can be seen from underneath.

PENGUINS!! We went to the grand opening of the Penguin Chill today, and man it was packed! It was worth the wait, the Zoo has done a great job with the exhibit, and the staff was more than friendly & willing to offer up penguin facts & info. Go!

279. I wanted to like this place. I really did. I saw these great reviews and expected the same. But it wasn't. I went during one of their half-price weekends, which is a steal. +1 for no crowds. I was able to check everything out in just under two hours. A huge portion of the zoo was closed for construction though, so this was a bit disappointing. But of the exhibits that were open, about 1/5 were empty. Felt like I was checking out a bunch of plants. My favorite exhibit has always been the giraffes, and they didn't disappoint here. I really liked the Muntjac. Most friendly critter there, be sure to check that cutie out. In terms of safety, they need to be more direct with which areas are off-limits to visitors. I noticed a couple instances where visitors entered 'employees only' areas, but didn't realize it until they were called out. Not safe. There needs to be some kind of enclosure or obvious sign.

Beautiful zoo! Open space outside perfect spot to have a picnic. They even serve alcohol you can walk around with. Heads up lines are long to get into the inside exhibits due to covid limited capacity. They do not have the feeding the giraffe activity open yet.

I went to visit my daughter on a whim and encountered a nice couple who is also new to the state. They suggested I take a tour of the local zoo as a way of getting to know the city. I took their advice and spent the entire morning to late afternoon touring the aquarium, zoo and downtown Albuquerque. Loved the zoo, the staff and the city in general. The aquarium was an amazingly fun time and our late zoo visit was well worth it. My kid and I connected with the animals and each other through the playful interactions and powerful displays of prowess from the feline species. I would highly encourage visitors to take the time to explore this part of town and its denizens.

I had some free time in Albuquerque and always love going to zoos. It was a Saturday and padoing was insane. There is no charge for parking, but Uber might be a good idea. It is a moderately sized view, but laid out well with good enclosures. I went counter clockwise, starting with the gorillas, apes, and the orangutans which were my favorite. Next was the outback--but no koalas. After that we Africa--the hippos have a very nice area. The rhinos and zebras had nice wide open areas to roam in. The Asia area was large, for the elephants and camels. Next to them are the carnivores, but a lot of them were sleeping (although a lion was close to viewing area. The final area tropical trail with reptiles and birds--probably my least favorite. Overall, a very nice zoo.
