The 25 Best Things to Do in Dubai

"Riding an abra, or traditional wooden boat, is one of the most low-key ways to get a feel for life in Dubai. The boats gather on either side of Dubai Creek—in Deira or Bur Dubai—and can carry about 20 people. Many locals use the boats to get across the creek quickly and to avoid traffic, but you'll also see lots of tourists, especially at dusk. Given that it's quick and cheap, an abra ride is a must if you plan on spending any time at all in Old Dubai or visiting the QE2." - Melinda Healy

Abra Marine at Bur Dubai Souq refers to the traditional wooden boat service that ferries passengers across Dubai Creek, connecting the historic Bur Dubai Souq area with Deira and other parts of old Dubai. This experience is both a practical mode of transport and a cultural highlight. Key details: • Routes: • The main route is Bur Dubai Abra Station to Deira Old Souk Abra Station, ideal for visiting the Gold Souk, Spice Souk, and Textile Souk. • Another popular route is Dubai Old Souk Station to Al Sabkha Abra Station, which operates 24 hours. • Operating Hours: • Most traditional abra routes run from 6:00 AM to 12:00 midnight. • Some routes, like Dubai Old Souk to Al Sabkha, are available 24 hours. • Fare: • The ride costs AED 1 per person for a single trip, paid directly to the boat operator. • Private bookings are available for cruises (AED 60 for 30 minutes, AED 120 for 1 hour). • Experience: • The abra ride offers scenic views of Dubai Creek, the city skyline, and bustling souks, making it a favorite for both tourists and locals. • Boats depart every few minutes, so waiting times are minimal. • Accessibility: • Stations are well signposted and easy to find near the Bur Dubai Souq and Textile Souk. • Traditional abras are not fully accessible for those with mobility issues

My experience with Abra Marine in Dubai was truly memorable and one I would highly recommend to both residents and visitors. The abra ride offered a perfect blend of tradition, relaxation, and scenic beauty that made it a unique way to experience the city’s charm. It’s a wonderful escape from the modern skyscrapers and gives a taste of old Dubai in the most authentic way. The ride itself was smooth and enjoyable. The wooden abra boats are clean, well-maintained, and operated by friendly and skilled boatmen. The journey across Dubai Creek gives passengers an unmatched view of the historical neighborhoods of Deira and Bur Dubai, with their vibrant souks, traditional architecture, and bustling waterfronts. It’s especially magical during sunset when the golden hues reflect beautifully on the water, creating a peaceful and picturesque moment. What impressed me most was the affordability of the experience. For just a small fare, you get a refreshing ride with incredible views and the chance to appreciate Dubai’s cultural heritage. It’s a great option for families, solo travelers, and even couples looking for a quiet escape from the city’s usual hustle. Abra Marine offers a simple yet unforgettable glimpse into Dubai’s past and present, making it a must-try experience for anyone in the city

An undescribable feeling here where human civilization goes on from time immemorial. People conduct their business. Lovers hold hands. Olders just sit and gaze into the water of this man made creek of dubai. Hundreds of small wooden ferries continue their good work at 1 dhs only. Passage of time. Take your time here.

The boat rides are scheduled, and we arrived a bit early. I was with my 2 young kids. There are restaurants outside hence we bought food there and ate whilst waiting. We embarked on the boat as scheduled, and everything was well organised. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The ride was amazing and we enjoyed every bit of it. We went to Dubai Marina and departed at 6pm. It took 2 hours and there was so much to see. There were snacks being sold on board as well.

Must try Dubai Abra with wonderful creek view here you have to walk for around 15mins from Fahidi Historical Neighborhood, but worth for the walking, you can enjoy the best creek from this little traditional dubai abra remember to ask the staff, which route they are going cause i mostly take the wrong one, and please know this, it only costs 1AED, some ppl hanging on the dubai abra station and asking you to take much expensive transport to cross the creek the one told me around 65AED lol, so be careful overall this creek view is stunning even burning sun during the day Dubai Abra for Dubai Creek Rating of Mine: 4.7

We caught an Abra (taxi boat) across the water to the historic district, but didn’t walk far (way too hot), so we decided to hire an Abra and cruise up Dubai Creek and look at the sights from the water. Much better - despite the language challenges with the driver, who tried his best to tell us some details
