I booked the budget room knowing there was communal bathrooms. The in the bathroom did not work and you had to turn the shower light on to even be able to slightly see at night. In the evening time the toilet seat had fallen off and I warned staff and they did not fix until the next morning. As for the rooms, the room was fairly clean. The sheets had some black fuzz and dirt on them so I’m not even sure if they were cleaned or dirty. There was a sink in our room which was convenient but there was a small piece of used soap on there. The staff could have cleaned that and it gave me the impression they did not wipe down the sink between guests. There also was no trash can in our room so we kept having to go throw our trash in the communal bathroom which also had a lot of other trash including food wrappers and drink bottles which also made me think there was no trash in other rooms. For location, it was right next to some street performers for music. There was a barricade from security and police so it was very hard to get back inside the hotel entrance at night time.

⸻ THIS PLACE IS A SCAM I booked a room at this place based on the photos I saw online, but the reality was completely different. The listing is very misleading. What they don’t show is that the property is right next to a sex shop, and the entrance area was filthy, with cigarette butts scattered all over smelly, dirty stairs. The room itself was in poor condition — run-down and neglected. The fire alarm had exposed wires, which made me feel very unsafe. I ended up leaving shortly after arriving because I did not feel comfortable or secure staying there. Unfortunately, I lost my money and had to book another place last minute. I would not recommend this property to anyone. It felt unsafe and completely misrepresented

This palce is not disability accessible. No elevators and very steep stairs. Would not recommend for anyone with a walking disability. The room was decent for me, I made an error booking my room and booked the budget room, which means my bathroom was communal. But other than that my stay was pleasant! Also the hotel was visited by police several times during my weekend stay!

This was the cheapest hotel we could found. It's a very basic hotel with basic amenities. Very well located near few places to visit in the city. The underground paid public parking is available in building opposite to the hotel.

A friend of mine was visiting Montreal and booked their stay in this “hotel”. All I have to say is wow, and I don’t mean that in a good way! The facilities are disgusting, and part of the stairwell going up to the rooms had a strong smell of urine. The communal bathrooms looked like they had never been cleaned and I can’t imagine having to shower in them. There is also some very bizarre and creepy art on the walls. We found clumps of hair on the floor of the room and it seemed odd that there was a sink in there by the bed. This place gave me the heebie jeebies, I would not recommend staying here, especially if you’re a solo female traveller or travelling in a group of girls. The police showed up multiple times as if they were looking for someone who was staying in the hotel. Lots of houseless around and extremely noisy, with paper thin walls. Spend an extra 100$ and stay in a decent hotel like I ended up doing!

There are so many things to say about this place. Location: amazing location, but the people on the street are very noisy Room: I got the kitchenette, the walls were very dirty, old furniture and appliances. Service: I don’t know why, but during the 4 nights I stayed there, nobody cleaned my room. Bathroom: it pissed me off that I could not turn the lights on without turn on the noisy fan. Breakfast: terrible. Coffee + toasts with buttter of peanut butter/chocolate. They also had bananas and milk with cereals. The hotel: a lot of stairs smelling mold. Also there are a lot of strange people there.

I stayed here for the Formula 1 GP weekend, and it was in a great location plus cheap price compared to anywhere else. Pros: short walk to St-Laurent & Berri-UQAM metro stops. You are also right on Rue Clark which has its streets closed for a fair. Can even walk 10-15 minutes to Old Montreal & Crescent/Peel street. Cons: the apartment is barebones, dodgy looking bed and sheets (I bought a sleeping bag and pillow). The AC vent needed to be cleaned, the shower drain was dirty and needed to be cleaned. The floor turned my socks dirty. But in the situation if you are not planning to be in your room and instead attend an event or wander the city, this is a fine location.

Google
This place is actually the most disgusting “hotel” i have ever stayed in. Mold, dust, dirt in our room and everywhere in the building. Multiple small issues like outlets not working, lamps not working, locks on doors hardly working, and communal bathrooms are disgusting. There were also tweakers maybe homeless in the lobby hanging out and a homeless guy followed us inside the building as well. The staff upgraded us when we complained but it was still nasty and gross. They also falsely advertise rooms online. The reception people even told me. They use the pictures of the nicest most expensive rooms for all of them. He said sorry you got, got. Location is literally the only good thing about this place but not worth it never stay here.

Yelp
This actually a great value for staying downtown. This is all about value and location. There are lots of stairs but we all need to exercise. Being downtown it can get and will get noisy but again great basic value hotel. What you get, a basic clean room, I saw no bugs, a lock on the door and a continental breakfast consisting of toast, cereal, fruit and coffee and orange juice. Again it's all basic but you are buying location, location, location. Being downtown it can and will get noisy. There are homeless, you are downtown but this is a great value for staying downtown. I asked where St Catherine Street is and it's right outside the door. Chinatown is down the street, Old Town a little farther but walkable or take several metro options for about $11 for a 24hr pass. This place is not fancy but it's a clean basic hotel that is all about location, location, location. Would I stay here again, Absolutely!. Reminder : Stairs no elevator.

Yelp
How low can I score? Is a negative score an option? I have travelled all over North America and most of Europe and have never walked out of a hotel three minutes after walking in. I booked through hotels.com a 1 night stay on 1/2/24. So horrific: 1. The pictures are clean. The reality is a s-hole dump. Beer bottles and trash lined the walkway to the door. The entire building smelled of smoke. 2. Front desk staff barely communicative. 3. Room was FAR smaller than advertised and was also dirty. The room to which I was assigned looked like NOTHING IN ANY OF THE PHOTOS. 4. Public shared restroom: i did not even go in since everything else smelled like piss, cigarettes and beer, I figured the bathrooms were also disgusting. 5. Parking is off site; no bell hop or other staff to carry bags up two flights of stairs (no lift). The only plus is that I got a few dollars of one key rewards for walking in and out of a horriffic, unsanitary, smoky boarding home- far far below any consideration of the name "hotel." It's not even hostel level. This is an unhealthy, and borderline dangerous place to stay. It is destined to close down, fail, and die. You may too if you stay there. DO NOT BOOK THIS HORRIBLE PLACE. I left within three minutes

Yelp
This place was a great stay for the price. Cheap but you get what you are paying for and definitely will return on my next visit to Montreal. The room was very small but it was more than enough for two people. The location is perfect and you are walking distance from anything you cold need. The parking garage they recommend was safe, close by and cheap. The breakfast was just toast and cereal but again at such a cheap price even this is a great breakfast.

Yelp
While traveling, one of our party had an injury due to their disability. The Abri Du Voyageur's website does NOT state it lacks an elevator. When we arrived, and spoke with reception,he acknowledged the hotel doesn't have an elevator. For us,the elevator was essential for the both injured, and disabled person. We couldn't stay. The 3 star review is for the lack of disability accessibility information on Abri Du Voyageur's website. It needs to be updated. 4 star for the staff's help, the central location with a closed road for pedestrian traffic only. About an 18 minute walk down to old montreal port,1.4km away.

Yelp
When we arrived to the hotel around 4 pm, the room was unbearably hot (it was over 35 degrees outside.). The AC was off, so we turned it on and left the room, hoping that it would be cool by the time we came back that night. We were back in the room around 8:30 pm, and we found the AC was off, the room was as hot as before but now the AC wouldn't even turn on. We suspected it blew a fuse. We complained at the front desk and the person there (Sam) came 10 min later with an extension cord and plugged the AC to another plug. I asked we could be moved to another room, because given the size of the room (large) and the size of the AC unit (small) we realized it would take hours for the temperature to be reasonable (it was already close to 9 pm already.) I was also worried that the AC would blow another fuse again during the night, starting the same problem again. We were told that they didn't have other room, and that the room should be cool in 10 minutes or so. We were skeptical but we waited for some time (over 20 minutes) and the temperature hadn't changed, as we suspected would happen. It was at that time that we decided to leave and find other hotel. We asked for a refund, but the manager said there was nothing we could do and that we should take it to Hotels.com. Hotels.com gave us a partial refund and an apology (which we appreciate and thank), but Abri du Voyageur refused to take any responsibility; they took our money and provided no proper service. Unfit for purpose.

Yelp
The hotel is on the 2nd floor with stairs leading up to a clean and welcoming lobby. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist who regretfully informed us that they didn't accept debit, which was all we had at the time. We had to take money out of their ATM machine. However, they did honour our request for a room on the same floor as the lobby. We had booked a double bed with shared bathroom (bring flip flops!) although there is a sink inside our room. Lights were much brighter than most other hotel rooms and I appreciated that. The window was huge and could actually be opened. At first glance, the place looked clean. So what's with the 2 stars? 1 is for the bed bugs. We found a huge one and trapped it in a cup. The extra star for the understanding and courteous receptionist. When we showed the bed bug to her, she immediately apologized and refunded us our money back.

Yelp
The posts about this place having bed begs are legit. It does. I booked this place for two nights and an hour into our stay one crawled on me, didn't take long to discover more. My GF and I immediately packed up our stuff, went to the front desk and asked for a refund on our way out. We are waiting to see if the refund will actually be issued. If and when it is, we will update this review. If a refund isn't issued, we'll be posting photos of the bed bugs on all sites that allow photos as part of their reviews.

Yelp
Spent one night here while attending the Women's World Cup in Montreal. We had a private room overlooking St Catherine Street which was always busy considering that there was a music festival going on. Thankfully there was an air conditioning unit in the window which drowned out the noise and made for a pleasant sleeping temperature. The room had hard wood floors and exposed brick which sets it apart from your run of the mill hotel. It is very close to the metro line and walking distance to the Latin Quarter, Chinatown and Old Montreal. Pro Tip: There is affordable and safe 24hr parking in the Des Jardins Shopping Center just down St. Catherine Street.

Yelp
There is no doubt that this hotel is very reasonably priced especially for its location in central Montreal, but everything else is not okay. Firstly, it's located on the second floor of a run-down strip plaza above a sex shop and convenience store. Secondly, you'll also have to drop extra money for public parking around the area, so that's another $15-25 depending on where you go. As you walk up the stairs - that creak, mind you - you're welcomed by eerie paintings. You reach the top to see reception - they don't greet you, they'll probably just stare until you physically walk up to them. Perfect. Now, I was on a family trip so there were 4 of us. We were in a room on the second floor. My second huge problem, there's a sink available but washrooms are shared. What in the bloody hell? Do they think I'm paying for a room in college? I think at the price they're wanting, 1 toilet to 4 people is pretty reasonable. The wifi is decent and free, but the rooms... the best comparison I can give is that this hotel more closely resembles a college res room than a hotel. Honestly, I stayed one night but it was the longest night of my life. The room is shabby, old and run down. The overall ambience is just not bright. Maybe if you're travelling alone, back-packing or with just a group of buddies on a budget, something to consider... When you're travelling with a family, just don't. ESPECIALLY IF YOUR KIDS ARE UNDER 10.

Yelp
First thing is first, this hotel is not a Hilton or the Waldorf, but it does have it's own charm. My girlfriend and I recently spent almost a week here on our trip to Montreal. The staff were very accommodating during the reservation process. Upon reading some other reviews I found out that the hotel is right above an adult toy store. This didn't bother either my girlfriend or myself because we aren't prudes. There really wasn't any noise from the store below. Unless you feel comfortable explaining to your children what the funny "wands" are in the toy store's windows, I probably wouldn't stay here. The hotel is the the beginning of the Entertainment District which is a great location if you enjoy theater, music or art. We were within a few blocks of some great venues. The front of the building is rather unassuming, but once you climb the stairs to the lobby you are pleasantly suprised. It seems as if the entire inside of the building has been renovated. We were fortunate enough to have reserved one of the superior rooms. It comes with its own private bathroom, otherwise you have access to a communal bathroom. Even with rooms without a private bathroom you still get a sink and mirror. I would have to say we received very good service during our visit. Housekeeping came by everyday and made sure the room was stocked and made up right. The only glitch we had was that a breaker tripped once, but we called down and it was addressed rather quickly. The rooms were nicely appointed. Our room had flat panel tv, cable, a/c, and a sofa bed. I would have no problem staying at this location again. If you are looking for a budget hotel with a more expensive feel Abri is your place.

Yelp
I was sketched out about this place when I first looked it up and saw that it was right next to a sex shop (ended up not mattering at all), and when I learned at how cheap a rate it was despite being located in the heart of Montreal. The great reviews were the only thing I was banking on, and I'm happy to report that they are all accurate. The modern-looking lobby is not telling of the actual rooms, which look pretty old and have creaky floors. There are only 3 floors, no elevators. There was more than enough space in the double bed room for my boyfriend and I, and it was very clean. However, I swear the sink in the room smelled of vomit. The receptionist was very gracious about it and offered to switch our room, but since we were only staying 2 nights we didn't feel it was necessary. That water radiator did a hell of a job keeping the room toasty, even with the window wide open throughout the night when it reached into the negative degrees. Wi-Fi worked fine. I had never stayed in a hotel with communal bathrooms, so that was a bit of a surprise. Got used to it real quickly, thanks in part to how clean it was. Our room was directly across from a bathroom, so we could conveniently look through the peephole to check its vacancy. Personally, I really liked being a 5-minute walk from Chinatown. This hotel is located right in the middle of everything, and if we had more time I would have loved to explore the underground mall and Old Montreal, both a short drive (or reasonable walk if it wasn't 2 degrees) away. A word of advice for travelers, especially those from outside the country: Do not leave any valuables in your car! I had read in other reviews to park in an indoor garage, and to not leave valuable property in the car, and we are kicking ourselves for not heeding those warnings. Our car was broken into and hundreds of dollars worth of stuff stolen. We were parked on the street less than a block away from the hotel. After this happened, we moved the car to a security camera monitored lot right behind the hotel. I can't say enough positive things about the receptionist, Dave, who was so kind as to give us breakfast vouchers and even refunded one night's stay after hearing about what had happened. We were in pretty bad spirits and his actions really lifted me up. I probably would not take my parents here, but for young people on a college student budget, this place is absolutely perfect. I really loved this hotel and will definitely book here again the next time I come to Montreal.

Yelp
I highly recommend that everyone stay at another hotel. I visited this hotel on a small vacation with some friends and everything was fine until we came into the hotel late one night. There was a person at the front desk by the name of HICHMAN; this man proceeded to approach my party and I with integration about how we were able to stay in the hotel and if we were actual guess. My friends and I paid (in full) for our rooms and we expected to be treated as paying customers however the receptionist, HICHMAN, made our stay very uncomfortable. His actions were deplorable, and I felt extremely threaten by a huge man approaching me (a petite women) in such an angry manor. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO TO THE HYATT DOWN THE STREET!

Yelp
Let's start this off by saying don't come here if you're into 4 and 5 star hotels. This place is not that. However DO come here if: 1. You need a nice clean home base while you explore Montreal 2. You need something at a reasonable price 3. You need basic kitchen amenities (actually my rooms has a more well equipped kitchen than most 5 star hotels I've stayed at) and wifi (so you can yelp after a day of eating) 4. You like friendly staff and service with a smile. This place is _great_ for what it is. For about $100 a night we got a double bed, a kitchen with stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, plates, cups and utensils, TV, a nice clean decently sized bathroom, and wifi. Best value in Montreal.

Yelp
We booked a room at Abri du Voyageur because we had a Dealfind coupon which actually ended up not working while we were there (it's only good during the week) but I'm still glad we did. Yes, it's over top of a sex shop, so the outside looks questionable. But once you get inside it's clean and attractive with loads of character. If there were elevators we were never shown them, so get ready for some stair climbing. The rooms have obviously been updated recently and are super trendy with exposed brick and hardwood. We had a great view right down St. Catharine. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The neighbourhood is cool (loads of murals everywhere!) and just up the street from Chinatown. On the weekend street parking is fairly accomodating - it's free from 5p.m. (I think) on Saturday until 1p.m. on Sunday. The only shortcoming was that although wifi was free the signal in our room was very weak and only one of us was able to connect successfully. Even though we weren't able to use our Dealfind coupon the price was reasonable. I'd be happy to stay here again if we needed to be in this part of the city.

Yelp
Well, we were looking for great budget lodging in Montreal and what we got was the time of our life. I really and honestly believe that our trip to this great city wouldn't have been as awesome as it was with out our stay at Abri Du Voyageaur Hotel. Every part of our stay, from check in to check out, was perfect. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and extremely helpful with recommendations to area attractions and directions to cheaper parking arrangements. The location is perfect, close to just about everything. Almost everywhere we went was only a short walk away, including restaurants, bars, and lots of shopping. The room was impeccable and much nicer than most budget accommodations in the States. I've definitely paid more in the past to receive less The room was comfy and clean. Sure, the shower was small, but it reminded me of the showers in Europe which was fine by use. I was delighted by the shared computer in the lobby since both of our phones were basically unusable with out WiFi (oh yeah, they have that too. For free!). I am so happy that we stumbled upon this hotel because I wouldn't imagine staying anywhere else when in Montreal (unless I hit the lottery).

Yelp
On our first visit to Montreal over Martin Luther King Day this year, we were looking for the best value hotels and this was one of the best we found! Very well-managed and in the heart of the Montreal entertainment district, in between the old port, Gay Village, and the more quaint parts of the city. We stayed in a studio apartment with a small kitchenette, which I loved. The hotel is right next to a sex store and the area doesn't look the most appealing from the outside, but the hotel itself is wonderful inside. Simultaneously charming and modern. It's located very close the nearest metro stop and the underground mall (perfect for those winter travelers like us). The front desk staff were all very kind and even got us a taxi back to the airport when we left!

Yelp
BED BUGS!! It was a convenient location because I could see my concert venue from my window but terribly noisy, I could hear everything on the streets, the noise didnt quiet down until about 4 am. It would have been fine putting up with the noise and the shared bathrooms and the outdated garage sale furniture on its own, but there were bed bugs in the bed. I found a few in the middle of the night and could no longer sleep. I had bites everywhere in the morning and about two hours of sleep in my system. Worst of all, when I told the hotel manager about the bed bugs he seemed to not care at all, didn't compensate my stay or at least offer anything in return. I've traveled far and wide, and this is the worst place I've ever stayed in. Should not be considered a hotel, it's more like a hostel with an artistic lobby.

Yelp
For a quick 3 day getaway to Montreal, we came across trip advisor for a list of hotels. Abri is truly a gem- it is very affordable and an extremely clean hotel. So glad, we booked our stay with them! Not only were the staff friendly but it was located in downtown Montreal where it was easily accessible to get to the metro and attractions. A lot of reviews mention that it is right next to a sex shop. It is not a scantily or sketchy place but simply an adult novelty store in good taste. The area itself resembles much of the Wall St financial district further down the block. We stayed in a queen sz room but double room/studio includes a kitchenette with or w/o private bathrooms. Honestly for $100+ a night, it is beyond reasonable. In fact, I think this is as best as any traveler can get for the area. Free Wi-Fi as well except the reception is a bit weak. Just a quick heads up if you are staying here, be warned that if you are checking in the bottom (lobby) floor can get noisy in the morning. The walls are pretty thin so you can definitely hear conversations and noises. Ask the reception for secure/indoor parking areas. Do not park your car in outdoor garage!! There's been a car theft ring in Montreal where many cars were reported stolen/missing. Park your car in an indoor garage where it is monitored by security cameras/attendants. It is better to be safe than sorry! Metro is located right down the block from the festival. Also, the old Montreal is a walking distance that goes into St. Urban- Chinatown/Little Italy which is literally a 10-15 min walk from the hotel. Also just a quick tip- there is currently an ongoing festival held until end of Aug at night time located right down the block of the hotel. Attractions include live concerts, comedy sketch, local vendors- beer, treats, food trucks, etc. Or if you prefer- place des arts is right across the street that goes into the Centre Eaton mall.

Yelp
Location is absolutely fantastic! Convenient transportation. However, it's a bit noisy during night and the double bed is smaller than my expectation. Regard to its location, still recommended!

Yelp
Great value. High quality, boutique hotel. The hotel is very close to the nightlife/restaurant/shopping scene. It's also near plenty of museums as well. It looks like a bit of a hole in the wall from the street, but the rooms were spacious and clean.
google avatar

Andrew M.

Yelp
Can't beat the price. We were a little sketched out by the pee-smell in the front stairway, but it's fine inside the hotel proper. The rooms are decent sized. Not in the nicest neighborhood of Montreal, but it's very convenient to Rue St. Denis, the old port, McGill, Mount Royal, etc.

Yelp
Location The hotel is located right next to a sex shop, so if that kind of thing bugs you then this hotel is probably not for you. Didn't bug us at all however, it was just like any other store. It is located right downtown at St.Catherine & St.Laurent, so a busy area, which is a plus or minus depending on what you're looking for. We had tickets to a multi-day concert festival nearby at the Metropolis, and could walk there in two minutes, which was a major plus for us! The mall, complete with grocery store was just a short walk West and wasn't too far for us to walk right down to the waterfront. The subway station (St.Lauent) was very close as well, so if you wanted to venture further than walking distance it would be quite easy. The building across the street, and a lot of St.Catherine were under construction, so there was a little bit of construction noise, but it wasn't very noticeable to us. I guess whatever goes into the building across the street might make a difference as well. Staff The staff at reception were very friendly and courteous. The reception is manned 24hours, and you don't get in unless they buzz you, so we felt very safe about that. Room We stayed in one of their studio apartments because we wanted the kitchen facilities. It was on the second floor, and you have to go up and down stairs to get there, which is not a problem for us - good exercise ;) The room was VERY clean, even the bathroom (other than the shower curtain, but that's forgivable). It was bright, nicely painted with big windows that open. It could get very hot (I think due to the side our windows were facing), but had a good air conditioner to turn on whenever we wanted. Had a great kitchen with all pots, pans, dishes, cutlery included. The kitchen had a full oven/stove, microwave, full size fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle and coffee maker. The bed was comfortable, and had an extra blanket and cot available. There was a shared iron & board in the hallway which I did borrow one day. And free WIFI - very important :) We were very comfortable here, and would stay here again.

Yelper Y.

Yelp
Great location for a super price. I've stayed here twice for a few nights each and was very pleased both times. The rooms are clean and, despite what other reviewers say about excessive noise level, I didn't think it was loud at all. Very central location - 2 minutes from China Town, and 5 from Old Montreal. Close enough walk to Central Station, right next to yummy restaurants (though there's an IGA 4 minutes away if you don't feel like throwing your money around). Will go again, for sure!

Yelp
We booked this hotel for a cheap one night stay due to a flight mix up. We didn't expect much, but were pleasantly surprised. The building is old, but has been taken care of and restored. Our double-bed room was small, but still had everything we needed. The shared bathrooms were clean and not busy at all, which was what I was concerned about. The area is full of bars, sex shops and strip clubs, but we did not feel uncomfortable. Still, I would not recommend staying with young children. Staff was really friendly and went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. I would recommend this place if a bit of chipped paint doesn't bother you, because it is a really great price.
google avatar

Venkata M.

Yelp
I've mixed feeling about this place. For the price and location, this is a steal. But don't expect spacious and nice-smelling rooms, quiet nights without any sounds because you are not gonna get them. The Wi-Fi didn't even work because the reception is so poor. Considering the price, it is a decent hotel.
google avatar

James F.

Yelp
It was ok! I felt like since I booked with hotels.com that it was a little over priced the guy at the front desk said I should have called the hotel directly for a much better rate! The location was outstanding, the wifi worked perfectly, I really had no problem with the communal bathrooms, my only real complaint was that my tv worked had terrible picture quality (granted I didn't watch a lot of tv, just wanted to see the news and the weather before I left)

Yelp
A great stay. The metro is a very short walk, but not all that long of a walk to the Bell Center and the train station. The hotel was very clean and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I was meeting my girlfriend there who had booked the room so I had a place to store my bags while waiting for her train to arrive. We were able to get very good massages as well which was part of the package we purchased. There is outdoor parking behind the building ( not part of the hotel) which was $20 a day. I would gladly stay again.

Yelp
As a 21 year old visiting Montreal with friends, this was my first time booking a hotel on my own. I agonized forever about an inexpensive place to stay for three nights and I am very glad I chose Abri du Voyageur. Rooms and Amenities: Budget rooms were fairly spacious, old but quite clean and artsy. There is free wifi, although like with many hotels it could be somewhat slow. Each floor has two shared single-occupancy bathrooms with a toilet, sink, and shower. Surprisingly they were always clean and I almost never had to wait to use them. The lobby contains an ATM, coffee/espresso machine (cheap, but not free), and a computer. There is an also a breakfast room, although I personally never tried it since I never woke up early enough (hey, I'm a college student). My friend went there one morning and paid $8.00 for a basic meal, which she said was decent enough. Staff: Amazingly courteous and accommodating. I initially booked two non-refundable rooms for six people, but later found out that we would only have five. However, they kindly agreed to refund the cost of the extra person, which saved the group $50. Every request I made was fulfilled, and we also really enjoyed the places where one staff member suggested we go to eat. The cleaning people were above and beyond...even arranging our messy clothes and organizing our strewn about belongings. Location: Very central to many of the bars, clubs, and restaurants located on or near St Catherines, St Laurent, and St Denis. Old Montreal is a stone's throw away and Chinatown is extremely close as well. We only bothered to get a cab twice, and this was in freezing January. I would recommend parking at the Grande Bibliothèque, which is only about a ten minute walk away. It is indoors and only $12 for 24 hrs or $9 for 24 hrs on the weekends, and you can pay for all days in advance. Other: Overall I would highly recommend to students or anyone traveling on a budget. Like others have said, there is no elevator, so people with physical disabilities should probably stay elsewhere.

Yelp
I am highly disappointed with the incident that occurred upon my friends & I returning to the hotel after a great night in Montreal ( African Festival ). Upon walking up the steps inside the hotel ( there were a caucasian couple in front of us), the male receptionist ( 11pm-7am shift name starts with an H... it's hard to remember negative people names when one is positive ) allowed the white couple to pass thru and ran towards us with an elevated tone waving his hands in the air, in a "NO" gesture stating " we have no rooms, we have no rooms". Some of my friends responded by saying we already have rooms here. I asked the guy to relax and asked him his name. He didn't respond to my question, he then harassed us even more by shouting " show me your keys, show me your keys". I asked him to relax/ calm down. He then ran back to the front desk, looked at the computer, ran back and stated " only 2 to a room, only 2 to a room ( still with a nasty tone ). We asked his name again but he never responded. We eventually found out. We were so shocked by his RACIST antics. Mind you, there were 2 people in front of us and he allowed them to pass right him. He didn't ask for their keys , nor shout "2 to a room". So why would he approach us with such DISRESPECT!!! The next day I asked Patricia ( morning receptionist ) could I have a word with the manager. She stated she wasn't in. I explained to her what happened and she stated he should not have done that. That was wrong. She stated she would inform the manager upon her arrival. I was not the only one with this complaint. Others approached her also in regards to this tragic episode. We went out that day. Upon our returned that same RACIST was at the desk. Next day: he was still there in the morning, I seen Patricia and asked her did the manager ever show up and address the issue that occurred. She stated she did show up but she does not know the outcome and that I could email her with the issue. Now, to me that's bad management skills. Something of such nature isn't something you table for the next day without any communication with the guest. I am very disappointed in this hotel. This was our first time visiting Montreal Canada and it has left a bitter, disappointing feeling in my ( and friends ) mind. I would like the world to know about this and if you are of the African origin more than likely you will encounter such DISRESPECT and racial discrimination that we did ( oh did I mention we were all women except 1 male ). Along with the lack of managerial input was a slap in the face, as if we ( BLACK PEOPLE ) DON'T MATTER!!! I want the world to know my encounter with this hotel. David and Zachery were the best. Unfortunately the "Shi! head" that works the 3rd shift needs to be terminated. He makes it bad for the establishment because he is a representative of the hotel.. I really can't speak on the manger because she never made a point to talk to us to address the incident in person ( send her an email... the nerve). All I can say is she needs to be re-trained ASAP!!! I make it a point not to spend my money with anyone that's bias, disrespectful and so narrow minded that their own fears manifest into harassing someone based upon there race/ethnicity.. Now that's a real LOSERRRR !!! I will NEVER return based upon this incident.

Yelp
Clean hotel in the center of everything. A renovated flophouse, nicely done. HOWEVER, WE DIDN't get the roll out cot we asked for, so 2 of us girls needed to sleep on a double bed. And nothing was offered to make up for this glitch. And blanket was dirty and had holes in it. No sleep for two nites, in a city where ALL OTHER HOTELS were booked because of the Jazz festival. Hotel is 2-star, but service is 0 star.

Yelp
Stayed here based on the great reviews from this app and TripAdvisor. I think the reviews made me expect a little too much. The staff here is amazing, however. I dealt with Patricia for the majority of my stay and she seemed to go out of her way for every guest. Everyone else was friendly. I went for a concert that was at the Metropolis, which turned out to be pretty much across the street, so that's a plus for anyone going for this reason. It's close to a lot of good restaurants and not too far from the Eaton Center. It is on top of a sex toy shop but honestly didn't even notice until I walked down the street that way and saw the mannequins - but just a note in case that is a thing that would bother you. The worst thing of this stay was that it's right on St Laurent so it's always loud - traffic and bars will keep you awake, there is also no air conditioning so being there in the hot weather kind of sucks. By shared bathroom they also mean shared between the entire floor, and not a bathroom in between two rooms as I for whatever reason had imagined, but it was always kept very clean. It's easy to take the 747 from the airport and get off at Rene Levesque and St Dominique and walk West a block (it's only $10 and a cab is $40 - very easy to do the same back to airport). There are a lot of stairs as well, and it's a fairly old and creaky building. Overall, I would stay here again.

Yelp
Spent 2 night and 3 days at this very charming hotel located near the corner of Sainte Catherine and Sainte Laurent... A very friendly and knowledgeable staff topped off a good experience at this hotel....The room was very clean and well kept...From the photos on the hotel's site, I was under the impression the rooms were larger and just the same the room size was good...I was on the 3rd floor and found the room to be very quiet... If you are not into walking upstairs, make a request to be on the 1st or 2nd floors as there is no elevator...Had dealings with the front desk and was amazed at the attention to detail and kindness with which they handled my inquiries....I will be back....

Yelp
Safe place, right downtown, great and helpful people at the front desk, WOnderful owner - we got to talk about bagels etc :) - quiet hotel with very clean bathrooms in the perfect location. 2 min from China town, right in Movie Festival area - some rooms are very small but you have a choice for larger :) It's not a Hilton but def. recommend.
