Decided to find other activities besides gambling in ac. Saw the lighthouse had tours. When we came, we were the only people there. Maybe even the whole day... it was cool to see inside it Lighthouse and to go all the way up, but all the info you have to get on your own. I was told it was a self guided tour, but it was just climbing stairs. I wish there was an audio tour that told you about everything. For $10, I guess it was worth the moment. But we explored and went to the top and finished everything in under 30 minutes. The guy at the top did share some facts with us which was nice.

Even if you are local or from NJ/tri-state area, I highly recommend visiting this lighthouse. 3rd tallest in the US (I learned that there). The attendant downstairs could not have been nicer and more personable. Pace yourself and the climb up is not too bad, the climb down was more challenging as I was getting dizzy. The view from the top-breathtaking!

A Hidden Gem with Stunning Views! Visiting the Absecon Lighthouse was one of the highlights of my trip to Atlantic City. Spent a couple of days in AC and our first stop was Absecon Lighthouse. Nice property, loved the garden, the historic museum, and getting exercise while climbing to the top. Got some nice pics too!

Absecon Lighthouse was really cool to check out and climb up. The view from the top gives you great views of the casinos and beach.

It was a nice experience coming here. If it’s too high to make it all the way up in one shot for you, there are six landings where you can take a break. It was a nice view up top. Small though. Definitely tight spacing overall. Probably really pretty at night. Lighthouse keeper is friendly. When you make it up there, he gives you a little card congratulating you for making it which is so cute. It wasn’t too bad going up for me but when going back down, my legs felt jiggly. I can see the height through the little holes in the stairs. The little gift shop downstairs is pretty neat too. Wasn’t too pricey to go up. $10 adults and $5 kids. There’s definitely a lot of history here. Feels like a little museum.

@228 stairs this is the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey and the 3rd tallest in the country . Place is beautiful and full of history , we had the pleasure to meet Dan and he gave us a little tour and history on the way up . The view was breathtaking and the experience unforgettable.

I was hesitant at first because of the area but I never once felt unsafe. This lighthouse is a must see and definitely worth the drive for the stamp and the experience. My daughter enjoyed it also and we both made it all the way up. Happy climbing!

The Absecon Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse that opened in Atlantic City, New Jersey in January 1857. After a decade of prompting from Jonathan Pitney, considered by most to be the "father" of Atlantic City, the U.S. Lighthouse Service requested and received a $35,000 appropriation from Congress for a lighthouse on Absecon Island. Construction on the lighthouse began in 1854. The lighthouse was designed by George Meade, who constructed lighthouses for the United States Army Corps of Topographical Engineers throughout the 1850s. He later rose to the rank of Major General in the Union Army during the American Civil War. The lighthouse was deactivated in 1933 and, although the light still shines every night, it is no longer an active navigational aid. Absecon Lighthouse still retains its original first-order fixed Fresnel lens, which is made of lead glass and weighs 12,800 pounds. American photographer Jack E. Boucher conceived and oversaw the preservation of the lighthouse in 1964. A re-creation of the keepers' quarters was opened in 2002. Since that time it has served as a museum and gift shop. Absecon Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in the state of New Jersey and the third-tallest masonry lighthouse in the United States. My family and I visited Absecon Lighthouse this past summer while we were on a road trip. We were looking for things to do and heard that the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey was just a few blocks away from our hotel. Although the surrounding areas are all developed, the grounds at the lighthouse have been restored and resemble the way that they looked in the mid-18th century. We had fun exploring the museum in the recreated keepers' quarters. Exhibits include ocean life, shipwrecks, keepers and lighthouse history, local memorabilia, and restoration photos. They even have fun, educational activities for children; my older son had fun making a coloring project. Visitors can climb the 228 steps to the top of the lighthouse, but we opted not to do it. If you're looking for a fun family-friendly activity in Atlantic City, then be sure to visit Absecon Lighthouse!

Very kind and welcoming staff. When we reached the top there was a lady who told us so many fun facts about the lighthouse. She has been working there for 20 years and was very passionate! We were planning to go to the beach but it was a rainy day. We were having bad luck/service at other attractions, but spending jt at the Absecon Lighthouse was a great way to end the day. Such an amazing place with rich history.

My return to Abescon Lighthouse last week gave me another chance to challenge my ability to walk all 228 steps to the top (yes! Mission accomplished). The Lighthouse is well maintained and staffed by friendly, knowledge staff. Thank you Kon and Bayard for your time and information. A must see attraction when you are in Atlantic City NJ

228 steps to the top ! I did it didn't think I could . It's a long windy climb but you're rewarded with beautiful views of the shoreline and the city view . Lots of history here and it's a must see for anyone in the area. It's ten dollars to climb the lighthouse . It's self guided but there are plenty of people there that can answer your question or just a talk about the area and its history. Free parking plus . Check it out !

I got here shortly after 4 o'clock, which was perfect because the last climb starts at 4:30. I entered after paying the admission fee. There are a lot of steps, I'll tell you that much. Fortunately, it was a calm Monday afternoon and I didn't have to worry about kids and elderly people zooming by me on the way up. I stopped. Often. Fortunately, you can read while you wait for your heart to quit moaning. Especially on a sunny day, the view from the top is breathtaking and well worth the effort of the climb. Amazing historic site right on the water! So Absecon lighthouse is considered one of the most haunted sites in Atlantic City with a rich history for lighting the way for safety for ships since the 1850's. I climbed to the top and back down and my legs paid the price but it was worth it for the view and the new knowledge base I carry on this beautiful old landmark!! Make the climb, support AC history and meet some new friends.

The Absecon Lighthouse opens at 11am and we were there on time. It's a Monday in September so we had the place to ourselves. It's $10 per person to climb the 228 steps to the top. A bonus was that Bayard Moran was there to greet us at the top. He shared a lot of information about the history of the lighthouse and the fresnel lens as well as took our picture. There is a lovely gift shop on the first floor and free parking on the street. I'd definitely recommend this experience.

Such a great "hidden" local gem! The Absecon Lighthouse is full of local history and has the best views! Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The gift shop is well stocked and full of unique gifts you can't get at the casinos. Some say it's also haunted... but you'll need to stop by and see for yourself!!

$10 to climb the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey? Worth it. It is a good workout, and you get to see a nice view and learn a bit of history. This historic lighthouse has been around since it was first lit in 1857. Though the lighthouse was decommissioned in 1933, it withstood the test of time and is now a place that is open to the public. Visitors can visit the keeper's house, which is a museum and gift shop. I do not know much about lighthouses or lights, but one of the things that make Absecon Lighthouse special is that its original first-order Fresnel Lens are still in use. Though its light is no longer aiding ships, it is now a light for the public to enjoy. Those who are more adventurous can climb 228 steps to the top for a fee. 228 steps had me out of breath, but the view once you make it to the top is breathtaking. The view is definitely work the trek. Plus, Buddy, the lightkeeper, is up at the top to greet you and tell you stories about the history of the lighthouse. Absecon Lighthouse is just a short walk away from the Atlantic City Boardwalk. Check their website for their seasonal hours. Parking is free. It is definitely worth visiting whether you want to learn some history or simply want to enjoy a beautiful view.

ATLANTIC CITY: we've been wanting to visit Absecon lighthouse with Brie for a long time and we finally did! The lighthouse is the tallest in NJ and has been around since the 1850's! Dogs are allowed inside the "Lightkeeper's Dwelling" and museum only. You can walk around and learn about history, explore the gift shop, and all the views have great photo moments. And, Brie's mommie's favorite, they have a Penny Arcade machine! A perfectly pressed souvenir! :) Check their schedule for current hours!

The Gift Shop Cashier was very friendly. The Lighthouse is a must to visit when you are here in Atlantic City.

For what it is, a lighthouse, it's exactly what you expect. It was really fun climbing up the lighthouse, and the view was really cool. $10 is a bit hefty, but it's a good experience.

We are having our wedding here in October 2021. Absolutely breath taking sites when you get to the top. Make sure you say hello to Buddy the 90 year old light house keeper. He will greet you after you ascend 297 spiral stairs, with a uniform so crisp you can set your watch by it. A national icon.

Great historic lighthouse with a great view if you are able to make it to the top! Don't be fooled by the #of steps going up -they're on a spiral so beware of others coming up or down around you & your legs will feel like jello after you get back down lol I truly enjoyed the chance to see the history behind this lighthouse and took pictures from the top as well! A definite place to try even if you don't make it to the top! Very friendly staff too!

At 171' high, it is the highest lighthouse in New Jersey mostly due to it's higher elevation then Cape May or Barnegat Lighthouse. There are 228 numbered steps to the watch room so you need not count them. Fortunately there are 6 platform rest stops which have small square viewing windows and information boards to read. The stairs are spiral and open framed. The good news is they are not closed in and you won't get claustrophobia. The bad news is that it is heart challenging even though you have rest platforms. For most people the 228 steps to the top should not be a problem. Once you get to the top you will be one level below the original first-order fixed (non-flashing) circa. 1857 lead glass Fresnel Lens. You will not be able to go into the lens room. What you will get is a business card that says you made it to the top and a docent who knows more about lighthouses then you might ever want to know. Step outside to some wind and a 360 degree panoramic view of the area including the Absecon Inlet, Atlantic City Boardwalk and Atlantic City.. It's a rush looking down and around just because you are up so high and not enclosed. Park free next to the lighthouse. There is a replicated 1925 Keeper House which is a gift shop/museum. The museum has some history. local memorabilia, marine and shipwreck information/ artifacts. The Oil House has a Fresnel Lens Exhibit. These exhibits are all free so if you want just look around.. To climb the lighthouse a donation (tax deductible) is charged. $7 Adults, $6 Seniors (65+), Active Military free, 4-12 ($4). A coupon for $1 off is on their website and AAA discount is also available. It's a non-profit organization. Each year during the month of October there is a weekend "Lighthouse Challenge". The Absecon, Cap May and Hereford Lighthouses are the only ones that charge admission during this "Lighthouse Challenge" weekend.

Took a trip to a.c but didn't plan anything besides a festival I wanted to go to. I had passed the light house driving so I decided to look it up and was thrilled that we could actually go in it. They have a mini museum and gift shop inside. You pay $10 for adults you get a discount if you are students or veterans. There are 6 landings which have a window and a little area to move to the side so you can take a break from the stairs. It is extremely hot but you get to cool off at the top. The view is great. I also got a nice business card from the tour guide that said I had climbed to the top which was so nice. I'm not athletic so it took me a bit to get up (no longer than 10 minutes) and I'm feeling that today . Totally worth doing it. Also my friend is afraid of heights and walked around the whole outside of the top with no problem.

To be fair, we went on an afternoon when it was raining/drizzly. The stairs were a little slick but had handrails which helped climbing/descending the stairs. The employees in the main entrance and at the top of the lighthouse worse masks and had plexiglass between them and the customers. Plenty of signage and social distancing markers in the main entrance as well as a hand sanitizing station right upon entering. Only 12 people were allowed in the lighthouse at one time to avoid overcrowding given the pandemic so that was considerate and made us feel more comfortable during our trip. All in all, a great experience for tourists that was reasonably priced and followed COVID-19 policies/suggestions to keep flattening the curve!

It's 228 numbered steps (you'll work off that pizza or cheesesteak you ate earlier) up a spiral staircase to the top of the tallest lighthouse in NJ and the third tallest in the nation. You get an excellent view of AC and the surrounding area from the top. They give you a signed card at the top to prove you really made it and be sure and talk to the keeper who knows more than you'd ever guess about lighthouses. There is a small museum/gift shop and the bottom so take a minute to check that out. Also, there is free parking on site. Oh and if you're like me and not a huge fan of heights, don't look down while walking up/down the steps. Trust me! This is a short drive from the hotels/casinos so be sure and check this out.

If you find yourself in AC and wanting to do something other than the usual, take a trip to this historic black and white lighthouse right in the heart of the city! It never disappoints! It's super inexpensive and a nice tush workout too :) It's the tallest lighthouse in NJ, and 3rd tallest in the US. It's 456 steps round trip and my kiddos climbed it for the first time at ages 3&5 so it's definitely doable for the wee ones. Just watch the curves! Kids under 4 are FREE. Kiddos over are just $4! There's a tiny gift shop/museum with very informative, kind employees. Feel free to chat with them about the history of the space. They were very willing when we visited. They have really neat old photos of the parties they used to have by the light of the lighthouse. Don't miss them! They do offer tours, but they aren't so frequent. You can easily do it self guided, no problem. They host FREE climb days on major holidays such as Mother's & Father's Day and kids are FREE on National Lighthouse Day which is Aug 7th. They host fun events such as full moon climbs, haunted tours for Halloween, Santa & his Elves climbs, group vow renewal, couples BOGO admission for Valentine's Day and so one. Check their site! So fun! I have yet to do a "By the Light Of The Moon" night climb, but it's on the list for one of these days! The lighthouse is open all year round but hours change seasonally so double check before you visits. They are closed Tuesday and Wednesday and the last climb is a half hour before closing time. I say it's a definite do! Oh, and don't try anything funny up top, even if the views make you feel all romantic and mushy ...there's a live broadcasting cam! Smile! *my old photos never synced. I've been to Atlantic City countless times of the last twenty years but never visited the Lighthouse. This time, we were staying the Hard Rock Casino which is about a 1/2 mile walk or a 5-minute (probably less) drive from there. I walked from the hotel at around 2 PM. It gets a bit lonely if you are walking in the inside streets. I also wouldn't say dangerous, but some sketchy areas (like much of Atlantic City) the further you walk from the Boardwalk. I walked along the boardwalk until I got just past the Ocean Hotel and then walked inland a few blocks to get to the Lighthouse. There was a adequately sized parking lot there...I kind of regret I didn't drive. Parking was free with an entrance on South Vermont Avenue. You can tour the grounds and souvenir shop/museum seemingly for free but there is a $10 (adult) and $6 (child) charge to go up. The grounds are well kept with a small garden area in front. There is also a groundskeepers house with some museum-like information in it. The main building houses the museum (lots of useful information so be sure to read everything) and the gift shop. The gift shops has the usual gift shop trinkets; magnets, shirts, pencils, post cards, toys, mugs, picture prints...The lighthouse itself is a 228-step climb. On the humid (95-degree real feel) day, it was a bit of a struggle getting up there. There are landing stops, every 30 steps to rest. I workout and run regularly, but that climb was rough. Once I reached the top, I was greeted by staffer Dan. After I caught my breath outside and snapped a few photos of some of the amazing views up there, I returned in where Dan educated me about the lighthouse and its history. Dan has a wealth of knowledge of not only the Absecon Lighthouse but all lighthouse on the east coast. I learned a lot there and was very appreciative that he was up there to educate myself and others. The staffer downstairs was also very nice and patient. I highly recommend the Lighthouse to everyone visiting Atlantic City. The free museum and grounds are worth it alone...but for those who can physically make it up to the top, the views you see and the mini-class given by the staffer make it a must-do.

Staffs are really helpful and warm. steps are broad comparing to others. It is 5-6 block near to boardwalk. What I find amazing is street name of streets nearby, which are named after USA's states name. This lighthouse is situated at Rhode Island avenue. Try to take the picture from house side, it's beautiful

I am from NJ and I grew up near Atlantic City. I have only been this far down the boardwalk a few times and this lighthouse has always intrigued me! It has beautifully manicured flowers and a gate surrounding the lighthouse to preserve and protect it from the local residents.

This one is one of my faves and I've probably climbed it over the years maybe eight or nine times in all four seasons of the year. There are more than enough reviews covering the basic key points so here are some basic key points: * The Lighthouse predates the Civil War * Good views of Casinos-Brigantine Beach-Atlantic Ocean-AC's urban blight * 228 cardiac arrest inducing steps * They should offer oxygen at each landing * Hope to see Buddy at the top for some excellent stories/history lesson of the structure and the area because at 89 years young he's a marvel more so than the lighthouse itself When you go: September - June Open Thursdays through Mondays, 11am to 4pm Closed Tuesday & Wednesday July & August Open daily, 10am to 5pm, Thursdays until 8pm $7 to climb $5 for seniors 65+ to climb $4 for children ages 4-12 to climb $3 Atlantic City residents with ID to climb Active military & kids under 4 free As an FYI, only suckers pay that price as there are dollar off coupons everywhere including on their website and on a lot of their brochure rack cards. But the real discount is that they've been on Groupon all year so far and that price (I forget what it is) is a MUCH better deal and is well worth looking into. One downside for the lighthouse is that the guy working never redeemed our Groupon so in theory we could go back and use it again before the expiration of the promotional period and it also means that they won't get paid for our visit unless I redeem it on my side which is something that I will be doing. This is good stuff and should not be missed when you're in AC.

Hold onto your hats!!! 228 steps up above Atlantic city, on top of old lighthouse, it gets quite windy! The spiral staircase climb is fun and in a sense beautiful, there is something about the metal lace spinning below your feet as you circle up and up... Small view windows on landings let you take in views of the city and read up history of lighthouse posted on each landing. Each step is numbered after one of fundraisers, so you don't have to count (I always tempted!) On very top, old lens still lights the night along with two 500 watt light bulbs - impressive contraption made by French. Chat with lighthouse keeper for a bit, he knows a lot about this place. Than step outside and walk around. Enjoy wind, sunshine and panoramic views.

This lighthouse is awesome. Tallest in NJ, say whaaaat. My manfriend and I went on a late weekday morning during the winter, so parking was ample (street parking and I'm pretty sure they have a lot). Admission for adults is $7.00, but I saw a little AAA sign and it's a buck off per person. $12 to climb up a historical monument? NO PROBLEM. It's a donation for a non-profit, don't be so stingy. They also have a coupon listed on their website for a dollar off. Speaking of donations - while googling the lighthouse after we visited, I found out they classify their donors as keepers based on donorship level. How cute is that? For $40 , you can call yourself a LIGHTKEEPER and have unlimited admission for four people for a year. Pretty sweet donor deal, if you ask me considering most orgs don't come with any perks whatsoever. For $250-$10k, you get a really boring name: Head/Corporate Keeper. You climb 228 steps, each step is numbered, and the stairwell itself is actually really beautiful. I'm normally not scared of heights, but there is something about climbing an open, circular stairwell that gives me the heebie jeebies. For those of you who have climbed to Lady Liberty's crown, these stairs are a hundred times more spacious and less suffocating. I still held on to the railing for comfort. Plus there are platforms where you can take a break and read up on some history about the lighthouse. A man waits at the top, give you a neat little business card that says you survived/didn't die/are still alive, tells you some facts about the lightouse, the lens and then opens the door to let you walk outside. He warned us it was icy, and it was, so nothing like the fear of death, but beautiful views nonetheless. WOOHOO! indeed.

Amazing spot. 1) It is the 3rd tallest lighthouse in the United States. 2) Built in 1856, the light from the lighthouse still functions, although these days it is mainly for display. 3) It is a must visit landmark in AC.

My fiancee and I visited this place for the first time this weekend and had a great time. We learned a lot from the little museum and from the volunteer at the top of the tower. It's a very neat piece of history and the volunteer was knowledgeable and sweet. You can climb the tower pretty quickly and it's very affordable. They have signs and info posted throughout the landings so you can give your legs a few breaks and read up on some history. The view from the top is nice - you can see the boardwalk and the ocean. The volunteer at the top told us all about the frenell (spelling?) Glass and how it used only 4 or 5 kerosene lamps which transmitted light about 20 miles out to sea. Awesome stuff. He made our day with his kindness. A little gem in A.C. and worth a quick stop if you want to do something other than gamble!

Hidden gem in an unlikely place. I've lived in Jersey my whole life and hadn't heard about this. The tallest lighthouse in NJ! Fun for kids or adults (there's a lot of steps, sure, but also places to rest in case you get winded). The top is narrow but most people kindly shuffle around so you can see better. Looks like they opened a cool new park (picnic anyone?) across the street. Neat view from the top.

It was probably the most foggy day at the lighthouse in a long time, but it was still open when I arrived yesterday. The eerieness of the fog covering the top half of the surrounding buildings, ocean and neighboring beach was actually cool. After climbing all the stairs to the top, the strong winds were refreshing once I stepped outside to the ledge. Take as much time as you need to do each step; it is not a race and the stairs are narrow, so wear sneakers and keep your hands empty to use the hand rails. Don't wear heels if you plan to climb to the top of the lighthouse; steps are grated. Be prepared to help someone in your group incase anxiety takes ahold of them while in the spiral staircase, as there isn't much room to get next to them or ahead or below them. If you use an inhaler make sure to bring it with you and take as many breaks as you need going up or down the spiral staircase. I sincerely say go at a pace that you can handle, and take deep breaths bc it can be a bit overwhelming all of a sudden. Once at the top, you'll meet a very nice volunteer named Ed who is very knowledgeable on the lighthouse. Thank you to people who choose to volunteer, especially here making the climb all the way to the top everyday that the lighthouse is open and patiently waiting up there, alone, for any possible visitors. Thank you to Ed the volunteer for keeping the history alive!

Hmmm it's a weird lighthouse to tell you frankly. It's location is not the typical cliff by the water at all! It's really funny because it's along the city streets like a few blocks away from the water. I wasn't expecting that at all. It's got a nice clean bathroom by the parking lot. It's a quick climb up. It's a nice view up there but not so much to see around the busy area. I think the lighthouse charged us $7each for the climb. A small store when you go inside the light house. Women almost always man a lighthouse! Don't ask me why. Lol

Best experience and so rich in history. Climb was so worth it and the view is amazing. The ladies working were very informative and kind. This was my first light house and I can't wait to see more.

I feel like this place is the most undiscovered and forgotten thing in Atlantic City. Its the largest lighthouse in NJ and the 3rd tallest in the United States. And you can walk up to the top!! As long as your not afraid of heights and/or claustrophobic. Its at the north end of town, we took the jitney to Showboat and walked the rest of the way. You do have to walk past some rundown buildings, which is typical for AC that isn't a casino. Its recently been restored so its really nice to visit, and they have a little museum in the keeper's house. When you get to the top, a guide is there to hand you a card that says "congratulations, you just climbed the 3rd largest lighthouse in America!" They also answer any questions you have. You have an amazing 360 degree view of the surrounding area.

One of the few worth while things to do in AC. The lighthouse could definitely use a fresh coat of paint but otherwise is pretty impressive. The neighborhood it's located on is sketchy but on the plus side parking is free and abundant. The connecting house is now a gift shop and information center. The museum/info center is pretty bare bones but has all the information you'd probably want to know and the gift shop is surprisingly impressive with all the little Absecon Lighthouse things you may want. The best part is you can climb to the top of the lighthouse for $7. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is that you can't actually go into the very top room with the Fresnel lens because they don't want people hurting themselves on some of the sharp glass parts. You can look up the steps into the center of the lens though. Here's some stats on the lighthouse: -Built in 1856 -Deactivated in 1933 (they still light it for a few hours each night) -171 ft tall (tallest light house in NJ) -3rd tallest masonry light house in the US -Uses a 1st order Fresnel Lens (largest of all the Fresnel types) -It's 228 steps to the top (quite the work out), for the out of shape there are 6 landings with windows to stop and take a breath

The Absecon Lighthouse is a nice piece of Atlantic City history and a unique experience. At over 150 years old the lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in NJ (ascending 228 steps) and one of the oldest in the country. Admission to the Keeper's House Museum, Exhibits and Grounds is FREE; however, if you wish to climb the lighthouse - which is well worth it - there is a modest fee. Check in on a social networking site like Foursquare or Facebook to receive a dollar of the climbing admission. Oh, and check out steps in the 170-180s to see a unique marriage proposal!

As good as it gets for a light house! There's a small museum on the ground floor and you can climb the lighthouse as you please. Each flight had interesting facts and a small squared window to enjoy the view. At the top the view was SOOO NICE! The lighthouse guide waits at the top and was pleasant to talk to and gave out some interesting facts. If you're a AAA member there's a discount on the tickets :D

For a small donation you can climb to the top of the Lighthouse. You have a nice view of the beach/ocean, just try not to look at AC yuckiness. The tourguide tells you information about the lighthouse. I actually spent the night in the lighthouse, it was cold and drafty, but interesting. Cute gift shop.

228 stairs to the top. Amazing views of the entire AC coast from the top section. a friendly keeper awaits you when you make it to the top. Also, you can read interesting historical bits about this (200 yr old ish?) light house on your way to the top and also see all the dedication donation plaques on each step along the way. The keeper/guide at the top is really friendly and the view up there is amazing. He and his wife bought the "halfway to the top" step at 114 which is pretty clever. Also the entry only costs about $6 (discount through AAA). I'm just going to take a star off for the "museum" downstairs which is more like just a gift shop. Also, the local electric company donated a really nice bedded vegetable garden right outside which I highly recommend checking out as well. Also there is free parking and bathroom outside.

Absecon Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey, and the third tallest in the U.S.A. Shave $1 off the admission fee with a social media app like Foursquare (that's what I did). Part of going to the Jersey shore and Atlantic City is to explore the boardwalk lifestyle with summer seasonal strolls, live music events, live shows indoors & outdoors and of course...casino gambling. Making a stop here was a MUST for the seasoned traveler, no matter young or old. I suppose this place might be a good place to chill after visiting the local casinos WIN or LOSE! A great visitor place any time of the year here in Jersey!

Surprisingly had a lovely time with my partner. We climbed to the top and received a card saying we made it ti the TOP! Coming down was a lot easier. Overall, a nice tourist attraction, they can def do more to make it even better to attract outsiders..

I decided to check out Absecon Lighthouse on my most recent trip to Atlantic City. There's a small museum and guest can climb to the top of Absecon Lighthouse. I decided to climb the lighthouse. I'm in decent shape and it was a workout getting to the top. It's best to take breaks, instead of trying to climb all steps together (unless you're in excellent shape). The reward for climbing to the top is a souvenir card and most importantly, some amazing views of Atlantic City. Absecon Lighthouse is hidden gem in AC. The staff working at Absecon Lighthouse was very helpful, informative, and polite. This was definitely a memorable experience for me. Absecon Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in NJ and top 5 in the USA. Put Absecon Lighthouse on your bucket list,if you're looking for something to do outside of the AC boardwalk! If you're climbing the lighthouse,wear comfortable shoes and hydrate properly. If you go to TallTravelEats on YouTube, you're able to see what's it like climbing 200+ stairs to the top/amazing views.

I am reluctant to heights but I love history and lighthouses so we walked over from the Showboat to climb, there was 228 steps and 6 landings during the duration of the climb, once you got up there there was a volunteer to tell you history then you can see the outside, it was a quick climb, and history tidbits all over the place, we went on a thursday and it was PERFECT I would not like to do this during the weekend in the summer when its super crowded! Nice gift shop as well!

Fun to climb ... better at night if (like me) you're afraid of heights. $7 or $6 with coupon. Free parking.

Great spot to visit outside the casinos. The lighthouse is one of the few relics of old Atlantic City. If you're fit, I highly recommend spending $7 to climb the tower, as the views are beautiful. The staff could not have been more engaging and informative.

Great place to visit if you're ever around the Absecon area going to Atlantic City! Admission for adults is $7 each which is pretty affordable and reasonable. The profit they make goes to make sure the lighthouse is well maintained for future visitors to be able to come and see and climb. It's very educational and it's a great work out at the same time. It's supposedly the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey! Even thought it's the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey, it's a pretty quick climb. When you reach the top, you can see amazing views of Atlantic City and Absecon. You can see the boardwalk from the top and the water. It's breathtaking. If you're afraid of heights...don't look down while climbing the stairs. After you see the view and decide to come back downstairts, you can browse the gift shop/info shop and read articles written in the past regarding the lighthouse. It's such a gem in Absecon!

Ok the climb up is a work out and if your scared of heights avoid this place at all cost. lol It was windy the day we went last year and when we got to the top I almost couldn't open the door because of the wind. Freaky came to mind once the door opened. My wife wouldn't come outside. lol Anyway the climb down was worse at least for her. Can we say vertigo? Great place to visit though.
