The 6 Best Hostels in Queenstown (Updated 2025)

"Right on the lake in town, I liked Absoloot for its large, fully equipped second-floor kitchen with great views so you can cook to save money, plus spacious common rooms with TVs, board games, a book exchange, and video game consoles. Dorm beds include phone-charging ports, privacy curtains, and reading lights at each bed, with under-the-bed lockers; the mattresses are decent, and there’s also a sizable five-person private room if you’re traveling with family." - Matthew Kepnes

You can't get any where better then this. We started in an en suite bathroom room. Rooms: Newly renovated, even the tap was shiny. Sheets were clean and crisp. Blanket kept us warm. Towels were clean. Shower gel is of better quality than other lodges I have stayed in. Nice hot shower. Kitchen: Beyond fully equipped: 8 stoves, abundant crockeries, pots and pans, utensils, seasoning, hot drinks, fridge, microwave, etc. So clean and new. Icing on top is the lake view while U dine. Location: Right in front of the lake wharf and within the shopping street. Service: Really helpful and friendly front desk, always ready and patient to answer queries.

This hostel is in a fantastic location for a Queenstown trip, walking distance to everything and amazing views! We booked a family room and it was perfect for our requirements, plenty of space and a private bathroom. Kitchen has everything you need in a hostel. The private rooms are serviced daily which was a pleasant surprise. Staff were helpful with any questions we had. The hostel has luggage storage and board/ski gear storage which were both a bonus. Would definitely stay at Absoloot again.

Had a great stay at Absoloot Hostel QT! Everything was clean, well-organized, and the location is perfect—right in the heart of Queenstown. The staff were super friendly and helpful throughout. The only small thing I missed was a shelf by the bed to put some personal items, but otherwise, everything was excellent. Would definitely stay again!

This is the cleanest and quietest hostel I've ever stayed in. The view from the kitchen over the lake is gorgeous. The shared dorms have little storage lockers (if you bring your own lock), and each bed bunk has curtains you can pull closed for more privacy. The beds are actually really comfortable! (A massive bonus for me!) I got a clean towel with my booking. The bathroom/shower area is clean and tidy, and I never saw a mess in the kitchen the whole time I was here. The staff are friendly and helpful. And the location could not be more perfect, I could walk to everywhere I needed to go in the city centre. Ngā mihi nui for making my Tāhuna stay so easful :)

Had a wonderful stay here! Right by the lake with fantastic views from the room. And incredibly friendly staff, Demmet (sorry if I'm spelling that wrong!) was full of information and seemed genuinely happy to help and answer all of my questions, recommending amazing places to see which I would have probably missed if it weren't for her! Wish I'd had more time to spend in Queenstown as I feel like I only scratched the surface of what there is to do here and Absoloot is definitely a great place to see it from.

If I could give more stars, I would!|Location: You couldn’t ask for better. Absoloot is right on the water in the heart of Queenstown – a few steps to bars, restaurants, and cafés, and just minutes to supermarkets, chemists, and all the adrenaline-packed activities Queenstown is famous for.|Facilities: Spotlessly clean and thoughtfully set up. My two teenage sons and I stayed in both a 6-bed dorm and a private ensuite room, and both were excellent. Clean sheets, comfy doonas and pillows, plenty of hooks and storage (a detail that makes all the difference!), and spacious bathrooms that were always dry, never grungy. Laundry facilities on-site were also a lifesaver.|Atmosphere: Relaxed yet professional. It’s rare to find a hostel that’s this well run but still feels welcoming and friendly.|Staff: The real highlight. From booking to arrival and beyond, the team were outstanding – helpful, positive, friendly, and nothing was ever a problem (even when we were a bit annoying with changes and questions!). Their service really makes Absoloot stand out.|I almost don’t want to recommend this place too highly… because I want to be sure there’s a room for us next time! But honestly, this hostel sets the bar for Queenstown.

Two great stays in one week. First night in a private queen room. Second night in a private twin room. Clean, comfortable, and well set up. Friendly and helpful staff. Large kitchen, lounge, and laundry. Excellent central, waterfront location. A five minute walk from the main bus stop and surrounded by shops and restaurants. So much better and quieter than most hostels.

Thank you so much for everything! I had a great experience while I was staying at Absoloot. The kitchen was always clean and the best part of it, is that the views from the window drinking a cup of coffee were unreal! If you had to choose where you should stay in Queenstown I highly recommend staying at Absoloot. Also you can meet people from all over around the world! Well done team!

Yelp
I really enjoyed my stay at Absoloot! It was my first time in Queenstown, and I felt like it was a central location. It's right near the water, and there's a good cafe right behind it so you can easily get breakfast in the morning! There were community style bathrooms, but they were very clean and each shower/toilet had privacy. By each of the beds there was a plug, so you don't have to worry about finding a plug for everyone's cell phones. Highly recommend you to stay here! You won't regret it!
