The 6 Best Hostels in Queenstown (Updated 2025)

"Right on the lake in town, I liked Absoloot for its large, fully equipped second-floor kitchen with great views so you can cook to save money, plus spacious common rooms with TVs, board games, a book exchange, and video game consoles. Dorm beds include phone-charging ports, privacy curtains, and reading lights at each bed, with under-the-bed lockers; the mattresses are decent, and there’s also a sizable five-person private room if you’re traveling with family." - Matthew Kepnes

Booked a family room with bathroom attached and it was lovely! Our room was right next to the kitchen and it could not be better. There’s shops, bars, info centers, tour pickups, restaurants (Fergburger is just minute walk away!) all within walking distance. And it being at the harbour, makes the view fantastic. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

First of, thanks so much for correcting the nationality part! It was already a very good impression before arriving.:) The location is unbeatable! Super close to bus stop to the airport and the group tour meeting point. Not to mention the great view from the kitchen and nice bars within 5min walk. Room was clean. Bed was comfy with sockets and a bed light- quite convenient. Staff was soooo nice!!! The recommended pubs and travel tips are awesome. Thanks so much. Will definitely come back!

Two great stays in one week. First night in a private queen room. Second night in a private twin room. Clean, comfortable, and well set up. Friendly and helpful staff. Large kitchen, lounge, and laundry. Excellent central, waterfront location. A five minute walk from the main bus stop and surrounded by shops and restaurants. So much better and quieter than most hostels.

Thank you so much for everything! I had a great experience while I was staying at Absoloot. The kitchen was always clean and the best part of it, is that the views from the window drinking a cup of coffee were unreal! If you had to choose where you should stay in Queenstown I highly recommend staying at Absoloot. Also you can meet people from all over around the world! Well done team!

Super friendly and helpful staff. Clean, well-equipped rooms with lockable storage and privacy curtains for each bed. A great kitchen with an incredible view, plus a spacious and versatile common area. The location is absolutely perfect.

The location was spectacular with a great view of the lake and snowcapped mountains. Everything you need in walking distance of the Hostel. The service was also very good... They have a good kitchen with plenty of storage space and a storage room for snow gear. The lounge is a small perk with a Wii and PS5 available to use, which adds a bit of fun to the stay. The private quad ensuite was a decent size and catered to all of our needs of our needs... Heating

I would have given this a 3.5 rating - a good - if TA had that. ||Hostel’s situation is great, right in the middle of town, close to all restaurants and bar. That also means that on the weekends, it’s VERY loud on the streets right by the rooms. Until very late at night. (We could hear them until 4am). They have ear plugs by the reception desk. ||We stayed in a family room. Had enough space for us. Only problem with the room was the shower - it did not drain at all so be ready to finish the shower in water up to the top of your ankles. ||Room had a mini fridge. In addition, the kitchen has large fridges and baskets where you can keep your food. The kitchen does have great views. It can be crowded at dinner time when people are cooking. Kitchen lacks “disposables” like paper towels but does have plates, cups, and cooking utensils. Try to avoid staying on the 2nd floor where the kitchen is - the smell from people cooking carries thru the whole floor. ||The people at the reception desk are nice. The price of about 266 NZ$ per night is a little steep for the set up.

Very convenient location, right by the wharf. The room was not too small and decently furnished. The ensuite bathroom was a bit small but for the price, it was satisfactory. The room also had a great view! Loved the stay.
