Abuela's Mexican Restaurant

I've eaten here many times and I really love the food here. It's different from a lot of places but the price is very good for the portions. The lunch specials in particular have made eating here regularly very affordable. I love the way everything tastes, but especially the refried beans and the fajita steak. The meals are always somehow both nostalgic and refreshing at the same time. We consider eating at this place a special treat in our household. I would recommend giving this place a try if you've never been here. Everyone is very friendly and courteous.

Unprofessional or untrained waitress who obviously didn't want to be there. My wife's taco salad was filled with spoiled lettuce. You could smell it. No apologies. Still was charged full price for an uneaten meal. I'd starve before I would go back. Trash!

Everything else has been great. The Shrimp Cocktail: Inedible. I got a shrimp cocktail to go, along with 3 other plates. The texture of the shrimp was like biting into neoprene, and had a super fishy smell and taste. I had to pick out all the shrimp and cook fresh shrimp out of my own freezer. Even after putting fresh shrimp in there, the cocktail sauce still had that bad shrimp flavor In there so i had to dump the whole thing out. I don't know if the shrimp was way too old or way overcooked, but it was definitely the worse shrimp cocktail I've ever had.

Food was not good. Restaurant was slow and it still took 45 minutes to get food. When food arrived, part of it tasted like it had been frozen, defrosted and still had the water ice melt on it. Would not recommend.

Fast,friendly service. Food was delicious. Restaurant is decorated so cute and colorful. Mine and kids favorite place to eat in rusk,tx.

Taco Tuesday in the evening equals $14 plus tip for 3 small street tacos, a 1.5oz queso and an unsweet tea. Apparently taco Tuesday is “only in the mornings” tacos were amazing, salsa was watery to point of not staying on a chip, queso had a powdery texture, chips were authentic and tea was fresh

The food is very good. It is not the texmex that you would find in Texas, It is more authentic to mexican food. It is a small Cafe style restaurant. Please note that the service can be slower, but it is all worth it. I would recommend this place!! The torta with pastor, the flame flameada, and the camarones a la diablo are my favorites! My husband loves the gorditas with chicarrones and the chimichanga.

Very charming small place, friendly customer service and delicious food. Only down side is... the portions are a bit too small. I definitely recommend this charming little place.

Home made Chips and salsa were number #1, she kept us stocked up. Service was really good. I felt like the price was a bit high for the food we got. We got the chilli Reano, at it wqs small and not very good. $11.99 with ground beef We got the burrito: it was like worth $5.99, with ground beef, but it cost $10.99... it was good but small. It was just ok, kind of cheap. Or maybe i am spoiled because i am from CA I have eaten cheap$ mexican food, but it is real mexican food. There is a food truck in Alto, the burrito are $8.99, and they make it good

Best Chile relleno I have ever eaten bare none. I highly recommend trying the Chile rellenos. I get Fajita and my wife gets cheese!

We were in town visiting a friend and were incredibly excited to not only find a Mexican restaurant in such a small area, but a fantastic one at that!! We're vegetarians so we asked if we could order quesadillas with spinach instead of any meat - most places are annoyed by this request but Abuela's was not. They whipped up the tastiest spinach quesadillas I've ever eaten! And their chips are house made so be sure not to skip out on the queso or guacamole while you're here. The girl behind the counter was super sweet and friendly - a must try if you're in the area looking for a delicious meal.

A hard working couple working the front of house and a great cook working the kitchen. We stopped here for lunch on our way to Longview. Loaded nachos, fajitas and spinach quesadillas were ordered. Everything was very good. The chips and green sauce were fantastic. When in the area again, this will be our pick again.

I was totally grossed out when I found a twist tie in my food. I was lucky to see it before I choked on it. Ick !

Great Mexican food! Had the pollo Diablo. It was really good. Wish I took pics. The hot sauce was different but very good, served warm. Guacamole.. (I'm an avocado snob) The avocados weren't fully ripe but it was seasoned well. Will definitely come here again.

Good tasting food and good service. I would invite others to eat there. I love eating there when I come home. All the food is good

Once again a stellar dinner. Chips and an amazing salsa were on the table as a nice appetizer. The chicken fajitas were seasoned well, served sizzling with onions, green and yellow peppers. The set-up includes bean and rice, sour cream, pico de Gallo, shredded cheese and lettuce. Also, a fried jalapeño was served on the sizzling platter and offered a great taste.

Food was tasty. Chips were good but couldn't get more chips cause they ran out. Worker shortage, only one cook and one waitress. Hole in road place but not bad.

We decided to have a family takeout date night and found this little gem on Yelp! It is right off 69/Main Street in Rusk, and is certainly a little hole in the wall, but the food did not disappoint! We ordered the flameado with fajita steak & flour tortillas, queso, chicken fajita nachos, chicken fajitas with corn tortillas, and the shrimp brochette. The salsa has some heat (which we love) and the entrees are seasoned perfectly and filling; we are all really happy with our dinner! We will definitely make our way there again! Delicioso!!

Slow service. Food definitely not the best! It's too crowded. Takes forever to get your food

I love this restaurant- everything is great. We got the parrillada plate last time in & took some to go it was a lot of food for 2. The owners are so friendly.

Love this Mexican Restaurant! Drove through 5 States & Abuela's was the FIRST authentic home cooked Mexican Food. Not TexMex, Not Big Chain Mexican either! Great Tacos & Tostadas, Great Al Pastor, AMAZING Chili Rellenos. Friendly Service! And the Flan & Strawberry Cheesecake!

Excellent..that's all I can say! Everything is homemade. We had the tortilla soup (best I've had in ages) and the tamale dinner. All homemade and great. Even the chips! If you like Mexican food you HAVE to stop here. We will again!!

Very good, my Pastor and I went there after a day of golf. We got the Fajita lunch special. All I can say is that is was fantastic. We both agreed that it was the best we had ever had. The place was small but very clean and the service was spot on. I'd definitely go back.

Great food! Authentic and fresh Mexican food! Super friendly service, guacamole is amazing and freshly made! I love it!
