This is a great store with plenty of organic and healthy selections. I read that some customers have rated Abundant Life poorly. That’s unfortunate. If employees follow you around the store, there must be a reason.

Great grocery store. We picked up turkey sandwiches that were reasonable priced and delicious. Lots of options.

Google
I really like this natural food store has a wide variety of natural products from local farmers to national award winning products. I definitely would promote Abundant Life to anyone I know. The Ginger/Pear Smoothie is so delicious. A must see & returning to visit often.

Google
Lots of great groceries, Beauty products, beverages, herbal remedies and other goodies packed into this fabulous little store. Staff are very helpful and friendly and offer you assistance in locating anything you might need in store.

I always feel uncomfortable shopping when employees are following me. I just felt like I can’t relax. I own a retail stores and I always tell my employee to be friendly and let customers shop.

Google
Health food store with surprisingly reasonable prices (for the area).

Lovely place, friendly workers, and wide assortment of goods. Definitely worth stopping by.

Last Saturday i got accosted by an old man employee for putting my backpack behind the counter. That's where several employees asked me to put it over the last several months. He was in my face yelling at me. Not sure what his problem is but, I wish he hadn't projected it on me. That guy has never heard of pono. This place was OK but way overpriced. There's nothing here you can't get cheaper elsewhere in Hilo, but it was convenient being right at the Terminal. I'll not be returning so long as they have such a hateful member on their staff. KTA is literally around the corner. Bro could have just communicated to me to please ask to set my stuff behind the counter. Instead he went so hard I'm out. I left on the spot and spent my money at other grocery stores. I don't need that. Where's the Aloha?

Yelp
This place was a gem. I visited this place twice on my visit to the big island. It has brands I had bought from that I have only ever seen online. To see them in person at a store was not something I thought the brand even did! The employees were helpful and sweet making sure you can find what you're looking for. They had some pretty cool snacks and veggies, that being said it was pricey. The store felt comforting and not crowded as you shopped. I love the two products I bought of kava, the chocolate was surprisingly tasty. They sold various local brands as well! I highly recommend!

Yelp
An incredible collection of healthy foods and natural supplements. I love visiting Abundant Life and browsing for a cool snack and a tasty drink. I wish I had this kind of store nearby on the mainland. Kudos to the staff for being knowledgeable and helpful! Limited parking in front of the store.

Yelp
Very nice store with a good variety of natural Hawaiian products. Cool place to get all natural items.

Yelp
Love this health food grocery store! it's nicely sized and has such a great variety. The grocery clerks and staff are all very kind it's clean, organized and decently priced for hawaii and what you are getting.

Yelp
Love going here because of the treasures you can find . Found this Golden Milk Blend...delicious on its own made into a hot mug of golden milk or added to cacao as described in photo. Enjoying the blend!!

Yelp
Awesome selection of local coffee that you can get freshly ground. Lots of cold drinks, healthy snacks, chocolate, etc. Be sure to try the pocket-tamales! They are vegan and delicious!

Solo T.

Yelp
Best grocery store in Hilo. If you look at the prices, their regular prices are what island naturals charges on their sale days. So now I only get my supplements and such here. Great smoothies too!

Yelp
Awesome little health food store right in downtown Hilo. We always look for a local health food store when traveling so we can pick up some staples and snacks. Abundant Life was a great little find! The store is well stocked with a lot of great choices including fresh organic produce. Nice and helpful staff that we chatted with while browsing. Local coffees, chocolate and other great stuff. Definitely check this spot out when in Hilo!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great local natural food store in Downtown Hilo to check out and support. Prices are relatively decent overall and the service is good. There is a limited selection of groceries and produce, but Abundant Life Natural Foods is still worth checking out.

Yelp
Nice selection of natural and organic foods throughout our grocery, chill, frozen, bulk, and produce departments. I cambecause somebody told me they sold locally produced chocolate. I found it!!! They also carry many dietary supplements, natural herbs, and homeopathic remedies fresh soups and salads daily, fresh brewed organic coffee, a selection of sandwiches, vegetarian burgers and homemade desserts. Lots of things. Bring your own bag! Good location.

Yelp
A great little natural foods and provisions health store located in Hilo, Hawaii. Whilst located across the street from a bus stops that seems to be the local homeless hangout and hook up stop for drug addicts, the store itself is quite good. Fresh organic produce, natural foods and health supplements, beauty aides and herbal therapies, this nice little store has a lot of offer. Went in for aloe vera and lavender essential oil for a nasty sunburn, we also purchased a bag of pita chips and nuts for snacking on our way to the volcano. Very nice little spot for your natural living needs.

Yelp
PUMPKIN CRUNCH!!! You just have to try it!!! The store is well stocked with a variety of supplements and homeopathy. They only sell organic produce. You can find all the basic bulk, grocery, frozen and refrigerated items (and then some). It's an awesome little health food store!!!

Yelp
I stopped by here just to check what they had. The selection is great for natural/healthy foods. The staff were friendly and the selection is amazing. Store is clean and I'm pretty confident that it's selection will satisfy any of your needs on the west side of the island.

Yelp
When I came here sadly the staff wasn't friendly at all. The cashier was sassy. Bad customer service! I was going to give them 2 stars but I gave them another star because they did have a food I was looking for. But why would anyone want to shop at an unfriendly place? Attitude staff? No thanks I'll shop else where.

Yelp
This health food store reminds me of a mix between Trader Joe's/ natural grocers/sprouts/or whole foods. They have your health food needs ranging from various oil's, vitamins, nuts, different healthy drinks. They also have fresh and organic fruit and produce. They also carry a large variety of shampoos, conditioner, soap, lotion, toothpaste and other toiletries. A variety of different teas, and honey. In the cold section you will find various healthy detox drinks, butter, different cheeses. Good variety of soups, canned meat, various salad dressings, flatbreads, apple cider vinegar. Allman milk and yogurt alternatives. Basically, you'll find all your needs from home all under one roof. I was interested in buying some passionfruit but they were not in season, however the guy working there was very helpful and he let me know that they would be getting some the following week and also they have at the local farmers market on Wednesdays and Saturdays!

Yelp
Refrigerator stacked with Fresh Pre packaged lunches and juices with best prices in Hilo. Store following safe social distancing rules. I always love coming to this store when visiting Big Island, and now I appreciate them more then ever. Also, alot of Immune Support supplements.

Yelp
I went in there last week and I was so disappointed . First of all I had on a sparkle mask, that they wouldn't let me wear. Then they didn't give me my senior discount, said I had to notify them when coming to check out, then I bought one of there shopping bags, then the cashier didn't bag my purchases, which I expected him to do. Talk about lazy. Three strikes and not going in there again for awhile. So disappointed .

Yelp
A nice place to buy your natural food products and to pick up on the loads of natural pharmaceuticals. The staff is friendly and ready to help with questions. The greens are crispy fresh and the beautiful fruit is displayed and easy to sort through. I go here to buy a brand of local coffee that can't be found elsewhere. It's also a great place to pick up fresh made sandwiches and other grab snacks. For being a small store, they pack a lot in not over crowded shelves and fridges and freezers. The produce and products are just carefully selected to please nearly every shopper. You can do your full shopping here and never miss Whole Foods.

Yelp
They serve very good coffee here. I was astonished at how difficult it was to find a coffee place that serves a good cup of coffee. Hilo shops do not seem to open at the advertised time - and many coffee places do not open at all. Abundant Life Natural Foods was always open at the advertised times - and the coffee is good. The store is kind of like Trader Joe's, but more informal and with nicer people. They all have that laid back, no-rush friendly look... but not that look as if on drugs... just nice people in a nice store. I suppose the unique thing about this store is that everyone was like that! Usually, a store will have a few really nice people, but at this store they were all nice. Every one! I ate a carob cookie on the last day I was in Helio with my coffee. Sofie warned me that it was a healthy cookie, but it was still a better than average cookie! There was a homeless guy outside playing the ukulele and singing songs each time we went there. He was quite good. When I was leaving on the last day, he was singing "You are my sunshine". I thought, "If I were a homeless guy and could play the ukulele, that's the kind of song I'd sing!" I'd also sing Open Up Your Heart (And Let The Sunshine In) - https://goo.gl/dqSWtH

Yelp
Great local natural foods store! Abundant Life is much less expensive than Island Naturals and has a lot of what we need. The hummus has us coming here every Tuesday (the day they make it) and they have our favorite snacks and carob cookies. We LOVE Abundant Life!

Yelp
We were just walking around Hilo taking in the history of the area, checking out the farmers' market, and mingling with the locals when we got hungry. It just so happened that we were walking by this place at the same time. It was a good find. This is an outstanding health food store with food for people of every taste and dietary need. They had everything from Kombucha to Tofu, and everything in between. My wife had a Quinoa salad, and I tried a local Kombucha brew. We thought that the prices were very fair considering the location, and that we were on the islands. Even though we were just steps from the farmers' market, we loved finding all this variety, including the organically-grown produce. Hilo may well have been one of our favorite Hawaiian cities, too, because of its "down-to-Earth" feel. It wasn't nearly as "hoity toity" as some other places we'd visited in Hawaii, and finding the natural food store was just the icing on the cake. There's nothing like the availability of good food to ice the cake of any vacation. If you are in Hilo, we highly recommend visiting this store. If you come in on a cruise ship, take the free shuttle to the farmer's market, walk around the city a bit, and then stop in here for a snack before heading back. You'll have to take the bus back, but the bus stop you need is right across the street from Abundant Life, and it only costs $2.00, ($1.00 for Seniors 60 years old and older). I liked taking the city bus back to the cruise ship because it gave us time to enjoy our food, and it took the long, scenic route that gives a great "tour" of the city. After that bus ride, you'll feel like you've really seen Hilo, and really gotten a feel for what it is like. It's a lot cheaper than any of the tours offered by the cruise ship, too.

Yelp
Nice small natural foods store right downtown Hilo. Just make sure they don't think your stealing. The owner or employee chased me down outside the store. Then we back to her store we're I unloaded my food from the farmers market. Never in my life has this happened too me. It was very embarrassing and humiliating! I was so upset by this incident that I went back and asked why she thought I had stolen something. She said she thought she saw me put something in my bag. So why didn't she say something then? I think she wanted to catch some one to charge with shoplifting. You can only do that if a person walks out. Walmart treats it's customers better. They ask for a receipt!

Yelp
This store sells a lot of delicious-looking, healthy, organic products. Their prices are high, but many products are not as high as most stores that sell organic food. Some items are on sale and they sell some brands and local products that I haven't seen elsewhere. I bought some local organic honey and it is good. I also bought organic green and red teas. They sell the Yogi brand tea and some of the more common brands. They sell organic instant coffee and it was under $10, so I bought one. It says it makes 60 cups and that seems about right. Nine-something is cheaper for Mount Hagen coffee than it is at the other two or three health food stores I've seen it in. They were out of organic garlic powder, so I asked them if they had anymore in the back and they checked and did not. However, a few minutes later they produced organic garlic granules, so I bought them instead. I am putting them in gel caps, so the granules are okay. I may return because it is hard to find healthy food like they have. I could find something tasty and organic that I might not find elsewhere.

Yelp
My favourite grocery store on the island! Coming from Canada, I was so impressed with the all of the snack options. Many of the items and flavours we don't have at home. Great store if you have specific allergies, such as dairy, gluten, or soy like me. Closed a little early (7 pm) but seemed to be the norm in the area. Had so much fun looking around here!
google avatar

Yelp
If this place had a fresh food bar, I'd be here every day. Every interaction I have had with the employees here has been positive. I've been dozens of times and have yet to have a bad experience with customer service. Their selection is smaller than their competition up the street - Island Naturals - but they run a tight ship and are so helpful. Highly recommended for their Aloha spirit and easy smiles. Thanks Abundant Life for being you!

Yelp
We were sight seeing in Hilo and just started walking around. The great thing about Hawaii is all the healthy and organic options. Good thing we got to this place a few minutes before they closed or my wife would have gone on a buying spree. Lots of good food options, fresh options, and organic Non-gmo supplies. The employees were friendly and didn't rush us out of the place as they started closing. We would have gone back here if we had stayed in Hilo.

Yelp
dank natural market. what's small in the bulk section is complimented by the grab and go goods, the great looking produce that offers coconut opening services, and a cool aromatic sectional. prime time hip dips right hereee
google avatar

Troy A.

Yelp
Best health food store. Employees are caring and helpful. Store is best store for all organic. I always special order here due to the best customer service ever.
google avatar

Jim D.

Yelp
Not only do they have an extensive variety of organic veggies, fruits and grocery items (incl bulk items) The staff are very knowledgable about their products. There are organic supplements, spices, flours, and mixes. Buy-by-the-gram/ounce/pound herbs & spices. Organic coffee, cheeses, and frozen items, too. Customer service is the best! I shopped the other day, and realized when I got home that I was missing an item. I went in the next afternoon, they immediately recognized me, and they had saved it for me. They told me that 2 employees went down the block looking for me when it happened. Can't get much better than that!

Yelp
Conveniently located on the Bayfront, this store is small but bursting at the seams with health food and other natural products, which must be a boon to the huge hippie population that hangs around Hilo (sorry, profiling!) The store had helpful, approachable staff, and I was able to find what I needed with ease. Despite being used to Whole Foods on the mainland, I was quite impressed with this smaller-scale shop.
google avatar

Mel G.

Yelp
Really well stocked natural foods store. Man, I wish they had one of these on Oahu! Much better stocked than Down to Earth or Whole Foods and more natural choices too. Surprisingly. Good variety and well laid out. The staff was super duper friendly and even though it was crowded they helped people quickly and efficiently. A little pricey, but you are at a specialty food shop in Hilo so what you would expect. Though some things were actually a better price than most shops so maybe that balances it out? The manager or owner, not sure which, was really hands on too, wandering around and helping people. Really nice lady! If I lived here I would go all the time!

Max J.

Yelp
My wife loves this place! So do I. We bought so many health food items & she got some natural herbs along with some wonderful vitamins. I love the organic food and the delicious chocolate made fresh in Hawaii. We picked up some organic snacks with freshly made salads to take to the beach. Love all the ladies that helped us picked out our items who gave us excellent customer service. Love the carob cookies! There's a huge selection so we appreciated all the help in choosing our products and will return shortly. Very convenient to where we're staying in Hilo so we loved visiting this store!

Yelp
Stopped here after visiting the botanical garden near Hilo. I have a very restricted diet so I have been scouring the island for healthy options. By far, the best health food store I've been in as far as selection. Considering it's in Hawaii, prices aren't that bad. This was a Godsend for me! Made my whole day. If I had more time, I bet I would've found even more to bring home with me. Wish it was closer to my hotel!

Yelp
Abundant Life and Island Naturals are the only games in town for health food. Here's what I like about Island Naturals: better atmosphere, newer, more organized, cheaper produce (usually), pretty awesome bakery and deli Here's what I like about Abundant Life: awesome sales on a lot of products, interesting selection of 'other' things like housewares and greeting cards I'll choose Abundant Life on some days if I'm looking to get some food for cheap and don't have something already in mind. Their sale prices can be really amazing sometimes. They'll also sometimes have some products that Island Naturals does not. However, if you want ready-made food to eat immediately, I'd got with Island Naturals. I haven't liked any of the deli food from Abundant Life that I've gotten.
google avatar

Mary Ruth S.

Yelp
I love having a store where you vacation even for 1-2 days. I was able for throw away my 7-11 corn chips to healthier snacks.
google avatar

Daniela A.

Yelp
This is a great little place in downtown Hilo. It's very cute and quaint and features a little cafe in the store. It's similar to Island Naturals but feels a little bit more personal and friendly. They have a pretty good selection of these, although not quite as impressive as Island Naturals when it comes to the deli. They have a fantastic papaya salad, though, as well as great sandwiches (I prefer theirs over Island Naturals), tasty baked good and amazing soups. Their prices are pretty good and the people that work there are also really helpful. They have a decent sized literature and cookbook section and a lot of really neat gifts and local crafts.
google avatar

Yelp
I would recommend Abundant Life to anyone! The service is unbelievable and I can't say enough about how happy I am with this store.

Yelp
I was browsing thru local groceries at Big Island, trying to figure out if it's possible to eat/buy fresh produce on Big Island like in Northern California. Visited various grocery places - but this place impressed me the most on the Big Island. It's extremely (in a good way) well organized, very well stocked with variety of local and imported organic goodies (from Kale to Bell Peppers), bulk grains and lots of every day consumption foods - impressive, even for spoiled Californians like myself. I was under impression that here is no way you can live and "eat organic" at Big Island - well, after visiting this place I no longer thinking that way ;-) Plus, prices positively impressed me as well - for an example, I do buy "Organic Shitake Mushrooms" on weekly basis at WFM in SF, exactly same mushrooms are $13.99/lb in Hilo and $14.99/lb in SF ? Really ? and this is not only example... Great job guys @ Abundant Life Natural Foods - you made me believe that "Organic Produce" groceries are possible at Big Island and at pretty affordable prices!
google avatar

Rose P.

Yelp
For a locally owned health food store, this is the best on the east side! The sales are unbeatable, and the staff is awesome. The produce section is on point, and the bulk bins usually have good prices. This store really takes pride in selling items that are of good quality and free of GMOs. I love shopping at Abundant Life.
google avatar

John F.

Yelp
I stopped in at Abundant Life Natural Foods for a healthy snack from their refrigerated section. After a few bites it didn't quite taste right so I brought it back to the store to asked if it should taste that way. Someone from the kitchen sampled it and said it was ok but they would be happy to exchange it for something else so I got a bag of pita chips. Unfortunately, I guess I'm not a good customer for natural foods but I really like this place's friendly & helpful staff. See the picture of the healthy snack that I returned.
google avatar

Yelp
Drove all the way out to Hilo to pick up some this Icy Heat Organic Noni Lotion for my father-in-law back home. Unfortunately, Island Naturals in Kona were out and this was the closet place to find it. The parking situation outside was a bit tough. Too many shops, not enough places to park, especially it being so close to the Farmer's Market. The shop itself is pretty small and cramped with lots of items. They definitely could use a larger space with the amount of goods they carry. I didn't have any problem with rude workers. Everyone I encountered in the shop and on the phone (when I was asking for a product search) were very friendly and helpful.

Sarah B.

Yelp
Small store but they have amazing smoothies! They even have vegan selections and awesome smoothie add ins. I go here all the time and definitely recommend you try a smoothie. The cafe is open from 9am-3pm.

W W.

Yelp
Lots of great products, including a good bulk section and items you can't find at other stores nearby. Pleasant staff and clean and organized store. Some items are very expensive but that's true of a lot on the island!
google avatar

Albert B.

Yelp
Abundant life has an earthy, kind of blast from the past feel. It reminds me of some of the natural food stores that I went to in the 70's, when it was a lot harder to find natural foods. ...which, to me, is a good thing! Their bulk section has better than average prices in my experience so I buy most of my bulk items from them. As another reviewer said they have really good sales and I really like buying their items at up to 30% off when compared with some of their competitors.
google avatar

Kiana M.

Yelp
I love this place because it's the cheaper health food store in town. I love their bulk section especially, everything in the range on $1/lb........love it!!
google avatar

Melissa D.

Yelp
I am giving abundant life 5 stars because of their spices. Their loose spices in the back are amazing and fresh and full of flavor, maybe because they are constantly restocking them. Their ground cloves are fresh and potent along with their ginger root. I have made pumpkin gingerbread bread with regular store bought prepackaged spices and then with the spices from Abundant life and it is a world of a difference. If you are going through the trouble to make a good quality dish make sure the spices are just as good quality.
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
Of the natural foods stores I visited on the Big Island, this may have had the best selection of actual ingredients. The produce looked nice and seemed very local -- it should be, it'd have to compete with the farmers' market just around the corner -- and there were a number of needed items on sale. Not cheap, of course, but it got us started. A lot of the fresh/prepared foods had some expired or near-expired containers in the front of the cooler, which we failed to notice until we got back to the house, so learn from our mistake and check before you pay.
google avatar

J J.

Yelp
They have great sales, but I wouldn't do the bulk of my grocery shopping here. Like with most specialty markets, they are very expensive. I also don't care for their cafe. They have a fairly large already made section with fresh salads, sandwiches, and desserts, but imo the items are overpriced. I do like how they don't give plastic bags. Workers are bizarre, but I don't get along with new age "I'm a yogi" types.

Simone M.

Yelp
On a recent visit to Hilo with a group of students from Australia, we found this amazing grocery store which we were so impressed with, we asked that our students all stock up on lunch for the day. The grab and go section had a large variety of healthy and filling salads and sandwiches, the Mediterranean Orzo Salad was a particular favourite. The girls also loved the burgers and smoothies they ordered from the cook who catered for our health requirements in a pressing and limited timeframe. We are grateful that they were open when many stores weren't on a Sunday and that our students could have something healthy to eat on their day trip to the volcano. The service was outstanding and the staff were very gracious. Thank you Abundant Life; this made our day.
