We were just walking around Hilo taking in the history of the area, checking out the farmers' market, and mingling with the locals when we got hungry. It just so happened that we were walking by this place at the same time. It was a good find.
This is an outstanding health food store with food for people of every taste and dietary need. They had everything from Kombucha to Tofu, and everything in between. My wife had a Quinoa salad, and I tried a local Kombucha brew.
We thought that the prices were very fair considering the location, and that we were on the islands. Even though we were just steps from the farmers' market, we loved finding all this variety, including the organically-grown produce. Hilo may well have been one of our favorite Hawaiian cities, too, because of its "down-to-Earth" feel. It wasn't nearly as "hoity toity" as some other places we'd visited in Hawaii, and finding the natural food store was just the icing on the cake. There's nothing like the availability of good food to ice the cake of any vacation.
If you are in Hilo, we highly recommend visiting this store. If you come in on a cruise ship, take the free shuttle to the farmer's market, walk around the city a bit, and then stop in here for a snack before heading back. You'll have to take the bus back, but the bus stop you need is right across the street from Abundant Life, and it only costs $2.00, ($1.00 for Seniors 60 years old and older). I liked taking the city bus back to the cruise ship because it gave us time to enjoy our food, and it took the long, scenic route that gives a great "tour" of the city. After that bus ride, you'll feel like you've really seen Hilo, and really gotten a feel for what it is like. It's a lot cheaper than any of the tours offered by the cruise ship, too.
