This Boutique Hotel in One of the Midwest’s Most Prominent Cities Was Once an Elite Social Club - Hotels Above Par - Boutique Hotels & Travel

"Housed in a 101-year-old gothic- and Tudor-style building in the Power and Light District, this recently renovated five-star hotel began life as an exclusive social club whose members included Harry Truman and Dwight D. Eisenhower. It blends Midwest charm with art-deco-inspired luxury: an expansive mahogany-lined lobby with soaring ceilings, more than 20,000 sq ft of event space highlighted by a two-story Tudor Ballroom with stained-glass murals, and 144 rooms (including 15 suites), many of them loft-style two-story layouts with separate living areas, marble bathrooms, large soaking tubs, and C.O. Bigelow bath products scented with black pepper. Dining options span an acclaimed fine-dining restaurant led by James Beard–nominated chef Johnny Leach and pastry chef Helen Jo Leach — a frequently changing, locally sourced menu centered on a visible wood-burning hearth with inventive dishes like smoked egg with trout roe and potato chips or lamb shoulder with yogurt and mint, plus delicately balanced, Asian-influenced desserts — to more casual choices: The Classic (known for one of the city's best cheeseburgers and a 50/50 martini), the all-day Lobby Market for pastries and coffee, and Nighthawk, a lively basement bar with live music, cocktails on tap, tater tots, and a pool table. Guests can expect a fitness center, extensive meeting spaces, complimentary daily breakfast for two (per bedroom) through certain bookings, and perks such as potential room upgrades and flexible check-in/out (subject to availability). With rooms starting around $225/night and close proximity to attractions like the Nelson-Atkins Museum, the WWI Museum, Boulevard Brewing Company, the City Market, and the Arabia Steamboat Museum, it’s an ideal pick for both business and leisure travelers."

Fantastic hotel with wonderful staff. The rooms are modern and clean. The front desk staff is attentive and very friendly. The valet service is convenient and quick. The only drawback is that the location outside can be unsafe at night. The intersections just south should be avoided in the evenings. This is not the hotels fault but should be considered when booking. The hotel itself overall was wonderful!

The staff was wonderful, valet fast, and the hotel was clean and bright. Our room was clean and fully stocked. The gym was very nice. The only strange thing was our tv. Mounted to the wall next to our bed, which is very close to the side of the bed. Kind of impossible to watch some in bed. We had a great stay.

The hotel is lovely. It's contemporary and the staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms and the common areas were clean and well maintained.||Unfortunately the neighborhood is not what I would consider 'safe'. There is no self-parking option in a garage unless we could find a private garage and none was nearby. The staff shared they would not park on the street as there have been issues with cars being broken into, so the only real parking option is for them to valet. Valet is $38/day.||We were approached right at the door of the hotel from homeless asking for money. I will likely not stay here again, only because of the neighborhood. There is nothing close by to walk to and it wasn't really safe if there was.||We chose this location because it was close to the Starlight Theatre. We ended up taking a Lyft to and from the concert instead of driving due to the valet situation.

The hotel is lovely. Very clean and the staff friendly and helpful.||Regrettably, there is no self-parking other than the street and the staff strongly recommended we not do that due to the high probability of break-ins. The neighborhood is not what we considered safe. We were not comfortable walking during the day, and didn’t attempt to at night. ||If this were in a different neighborhood I would stay again.

Sleek, modern, and effortlessly cool—my stay at the AC Hotel was chef’s kiss! From the spotless rooms to the thoughtfully designed lobby, everything felt curated for comfort and style. The staff was warm and attentive, and the vibe was perfect for both work and play. I left feeling recharged, inspired, and already planning my next visit. Kansas City, you’ve got a gem here!

This hotel has potential, but there are some serious issues that need attention. It’s clean, the location is convenient, and the rooms are modern and comfortable. However, there were multiple frustrating experiences that took away from the overall stay. The hydration station on the 8th floor wasn’t working, yet we were only given two bottles of water for three people across three nights. When I asked for more, I was told to use the filling stations, which clearly wasn’t an option. I also selected the food and beverage credit as part of my platinum benefits, which should have been more valuable than points, but it was nearly impossible to use. The front desk was understaffed to handle market purchases, nothing in the market was labeled with prices, and staff seemed uninterested in helping when I asked, even going as far to roll their eyes at me just for asking how much a few items were. Eventually, I managed to use a coupon on a single $7.50 can of beer, but it was a frustrating process that made me reluctant to use the rest. Overall, this hotel gets the basics right, but the lack of attention to guest experience and poor service makes it hard to recommend until these issues are addressed.

The staff was SO friendly & accommodating. They made check-in and check-out so easy. I especially loved loved the valets. They did a great job getting & parking the car & were so nice, esp. Joseph.

This hotel was so nice. Everyone from the front desk to the hostess was very friendly and helpful. Fantastic location as well. We were able to walk to some great dinner places, as well as to the power and light district, which was an easy 10 min walk straight down the street. Rooms were updated, very modern and very quiet. We didn't hear another person at all from our room. We will definitely stay here again.

Yelp
We did a staycation night at the AC Hotel Downtown and had a great time. Beautiful hotel the preserves the historic features of the building. Stopped by the bar for a bubbly and old fashion, wonderful drinks and great service. Rooms were great and bed was very cozy. We used valet parking, which provided an app to request our vehicle, worked great. Great place to stay, excited to see how this portion of the city continues to develop

Yelp
Overall a great experience! Very clean and modern inside. They have a coffee bar which is nice in the morning. Front desk staff was quick and easy to work with. There are plenty of elevators and all were in service. The only downside was I was here for a conference at the convention center and though the walk wasn't far, it is hilly. There are also blocks nearby that as a woman, I wouldn't feel safe walking by at night. Otherwise the hotel itself was excellent!

Yelp
We were in KC for a holiday party for my husbands work. We stayed one night at the AC hotel downtown. It was a nice hotel and staff was friendly. You can self park, I don't know where that parking was as I don't think it was close. They also offer valet which is what we did. It was really great how they took your number and texted a link to request your car so you can request the car and head downstairs and the car is ready and waiting. We had an interior room on the 6th floor. The layout of this particular room was interesting and it was very dark even during the day. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The pillows and linens were nice. The hotel bar area was very large, clean, and had a good atmosphere. The bar tender was friendly and made great drinks. Overall it was a pleasant experience and I would stay here again.

Yelp
Me and my family had a great time staying in this hotel. The hotel was very nice and clean. The only problem was when we got to our room, we discovered that our shower drain was broken. So we called the front desk and they immediately sent someone up to fix it. They also offered us a new room just in case in case they couldn't fix the shower. The guy they sent up to fix it was very kind and showed us the problem. Then, he explained to us how to fix it if it ever broke again. I was very impressed with their service here. If you're ever in Kansas City and need a place to stay, I would recommend here.

Yelp
Love the location in the heart of downtown KC. Staff was friendly and professional. We had a corner room with great views of the city. Alfonso in valet was fast and friendly.

Yelp
Excellent gym. Excellent beds. Really accommodating staff. Did you know if you're a Marriott member you can check out at 2pm!? New favorite hotel.

Yelp
When I left, they charged me all sorts of extra fees. And they didn't just charge me, they charged my friend who had come just to hang out with me for a couple of hours and gave them his credit card to park in the garage. And they charged him hundreds of dollars for this. The woman on the phone was so incredibly rude. I offered to give her my card rather than his and she wouldn't allow me to give her a credit card. Absolutely under no circumstances should stay here unless you're ready to pay a bunch of extra fees at the end
