19 Best Hotels in Málaga, Costa del Sol’s Scenic Capital | Condé Nast Traveler

"Overlooking the Alcazaba, the Paseo del Parque, and the port, this legendary hotel buzzes during the Málaga Film Festival and offers a rooftop terrace that doubles as a popular spot for festival interviews and star sightings. I noted that ordinary guests are welcome to enjoy the terrace, pool, and views, making it easy to soak up the film-festival atmosphere even if you’re not on the guest list." - Marta Sader

We were extremely happy with our stay of several nights at the AC Hotel Málaga Palacio. We had a large group booking for our wedding, and the entire team was incredibly kind and accommodating. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and we enjoyed a beautiful view over the harbour. A very special thank you to Gema, who went above and beyond to make everything run smoothly. She was always friendly, patient, and proactive in helping us coordinate all the details for our group. Her kindness truly made a difference and made us feel very welcome.

Most sensational location. Walk to everything. The drinks on roof top are sensational. I was staying at hotel but felt like a coupon holder. Slow service and felt unimportant. But because of my permanent platinum status, there was a huge arrival gift in room. So appreciated. The door and arrival staff was marvelous. The balcony had the most gorgeous views. Perfect vacation closing hotel. Slight issues with roof top staff attitude and speed.

Dream location! Just perfect. We returned out rental car at the train station & walked to the AC Hotel for the 2 nights we stayed here. Walked everywhere Excellent view from rooftop bar - stunning! Very clean room & comfy bed with a balcony and water view (916). Housekeeping is fantastic Appreciation for the security at elevators too. Would recommend some safety measures for the tub. We are avtive & in our mid 60s - difficult & slippery getting in & out of tub - no handle / nothing to support yourself. Really enjoyed our stay!

Sadly, we were only here one night. Our room was a dream - great for a romantic getaway. Super clean, and the room's atmosphere was leaning into luxury. According to the bellman, we were lucky and were in one of the upgraded rooms. Our room had an open concept shower area, so perhaps not ideal for families or friends (I'd inquire/do a little research on the room options). My one critique is that getting in/out of the shower was tricky - you couldn't do it without getting soaked/getting water on the floor. The shower door was on the left, but the dials to turn on the water were on the right... and when you turned on the water, it automatically turned on the giant rain shower right over top of your head. On the otherhand, I am happy to report that the toilet room had a solid door LOL. We were on the 3rd floor, had a nice view, and were not bothered by noise from the street. Bed was very comfortable, room was spacious, had nice ambient lighting options, and had a nice sized balcony. Hotel is very centrally located. ||We didn't have the opportunity to use most of the hotel's amenities, but we did get to enjoy a nice mojito and watched the sunset at the rooftop bar. The rooftop was buzzing - I believe there was an event for 'feria' which we were unaware of, but joined in on the fun nonetheless! Stunning views - don't miss the sunset!

It is a very well located and clean hotel. I have them 5 as we enjoyed ourselves and walk to all attractions, however there were few issues. Hotel was supposed to provide deluxe king room. The bed was maybe queen Asked for higher floor and was assigned floor 3 where conference rooms were. Shampoo dispenser was not working so I had to ask for shampoo and the 3nd night it was not fixed either. Internet was fast and fully covered in the hotel.

Got an automatic upgrade to a family suite and it was great. Hotel staff were very friendly and very attentive. Suite was 2 bedrooms with 2.5 baths with separate tubs and huge walk in showers. Living area was spacious with a sofa, two side chairs, dining table and bar! And real flowers! Location is fantastic! Walking distance to the beach and other hot spots in Malaga. Wasn’t noisy although the streets were crowded. Convenient taxi stand right out the front door. Would I stay here again? Absolutely!

Had an nice dining experience here at rooftop restaurant El Atico! The food was excellent - the beef sirloin was cooked to perfection, the Russian salad was spot on, and the red tuna tartare was absolutely amazing (though the portion was a bit small). The virgin cocktails were also a highlight! But what truly made the evening special was the breathtaking view of Malaga port and the stunning sunset. It was a bit windy, but the blankets they provided kept us cozy. And the seagulls trying to sneak a snack were quite the show . The whole scene on the terrace was hilarious. Stuff even bought a check in seagull deco style! 😂

Although the hotel does offer valet, their allotted spots in the garage were already full. I was redirected to the Plaza de la Marina parking garage, which still had availability in the late afternoon. In hindsight, it would have been easier to head there directly, since reaching & exiting the hotel by car isn’t exactly straightforward. Room was good, but I wasn’t fond of the half-glass shower. Location is great; it’s right by all the shops & restaurants. The staff is nice, they helped me to find parking & gave us a nice cookie cake. I recommend getting a room with a sea view!

Yelp
We pulled up at night and WOW!!! The entire hotel was Christmas! From the outside to the lobby/ground level. It made us so happy to see all the Christmas cheer!! Room was amazing! I wish we would have stayed longer. Spacious, clean, comfortable and amazing view. We were upgraded and they also had a sweet welcome cake for us in our room. (I do have Marriott status, so that might have been why) Fitness center was great, too. Lots of machines and space. I was the only one in there, which is great for me! But plenty of space if anyone joined. Location is great. You are near so many great things and able to walk around to quickly. Restaurant from the top was my favorite meal I had the entire time we were in Spain! I had the cod w veggies and it was DELICIOUS !! The view was amazing too! This was our favorite spot/experience food wise in our time. Would definitely return here!!

Yelp
This place is just walking distance from all the touristy places and has an amazing rooftop restaurant overlooking the bell tower and the city. Rooms are bigger by European standards. Most impressive was a balcony (that works) which overlooks the harbor. If you are a tourist, you will love this place. If you are looking for a quiet boutique hotel - please look elsewhere.

Yelp
We stayed here for our trip to southern Spain. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable helped us plan and book all the tours we needed and added a recommendation of places we should see which was amazing spots to see. The hotel is so clean and quiet even though it's located in a prime location close to town center and all public transportations. This is the hotel I will always come back to it in my future trips to Spain.

Yelp
The Good: :: location is good :: service was good :: room was spacious and had a great balcony :: hotel was quiet, i actually was able to get sleep :: bedding was good The Bad: :: can be challenging for rideshare drivers to find the right spot to pick you up :: no ramp for handicap people nor suitcases in the front entrance :: bathroom was dated The Ugly: :: wifi was god-awful...do not stay here if you are staying for work and need access to reliable, performant internet. it was so slow that when i ran a test using SpeedTest.net, it registered at 4-6 mbps (IIRC). i ended up just using my personal hotspot on my work cell phone (which was registering twice that) Would I go back? For work, probably not--reliable wifi is too critical for my job. With how awfully slow it is, I can't risk not getting work done.

Yelp
Our 1 night stay in Malaga turned into a 3 night stay and it's still hard to leave! Very, and I can't emphasize the very, centrally located. You really can't get a better location for sightseeing and shopping. It's right next to the cathedral (literally my view from the balcony), a stones throw from the alcazar, and downstairs is the Christmas light show and shopping district. Not to mention you're an elevator ride away from the highest rooftop bar in all of Malaga. Room is simple but nice. Nespresso coffee maker, water bottles and small toiletries (we forgot toothpaste at home, so this was helpful), robe, and slippers (yay!) along with a fridge. (Filled with mini bar items, but still has space where you can cram in a few items) I found out the rooftop bar requires people to buy tickets if you're not staying here - so we took full advantage of going up nightly and enjoying the 360 view and sunset. The drinks were reasonable, the small dishes were good, and yes - they have gluten-free bread substitutes available! That, and they gave us $10/person ($20 total, note this is USD and not euro) daily credit for platinum Bonvoy member so... we happily spent it on jamon iberco and some local wines. They also gave us a box of cookies as a welcome gift which was super nice! People are friendly, hotel is incredibly well decorated for the holiday season, housekeeping was daily and great. Only major flaw is that Internet is really spotty. It was so bad at time, I had to make international work calls using cellular (ouch) because of the (lack of) internet speed, and 50% of the time even browsing became an issue. I definitely didn't get as much done as I thought I would here, and will need to take work with me to the next location. Otherwise, the only other minor complaint was the buffet breakfast looked like it was missing fruits and vegetables and variety - something travelers really have trouble getting at most restaurants while running around, and I would've otherwise really liked to have tried it. (We skipped and went straight to lunch while here) Still an excellent 5 star stay, and thanks for the great Malaga memories - we hope to be back soon!

Yelp
Beautiful Hotel with OUTSTANDING staff!!! 5 STARS This hotel had all of the wonderful qualities that I expect of any Marriott property. However, the staff at every level was wonderful. From our arrival, where the bell hop literally came out and into the street to help me and my 94 year old father, with our luggage and into the hotel, to the wonderful desk staff , the restaurant staff of both restaurants, parentheses breakfast and top level dining). The housekeeping staff insured not only that our room was clean, but that we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The gentleman in the lobby went above and beyond to help both of us with our respective mobility challenges. They helped my father on and off of the lift to ensure that he got safely up and down the levels with his walker. They assisted me by offering their arm For me to safely get down the stairs. They did this, every single time. The breakfast buffet was five of five stars, and warrants a review. If it's on, as does the top level restaurant with a beautiful view overlooking the city. To say that they are five star restaurants is an understatement. The views are all breathtaking weather from our balcony in our room or the hallway outside of our room or the top level Terrace. I cannot wait to return to Malaga just to stay at this hotel. It was accessible ( one of the few places in Europe we found it was); and centrally located where we were able to enjoy tours, flamingo, and dining. The wonderful hop on hop off bus stops right across the street and many activities are within walking distance, even for those of us who are mobility challenged. The rooms at the hotel we're clean beyond measure. The concierge who we charged with recommending the best restaurant to eat traditional paella, indeed rose to the task, sending us to a wonderful restaurant, where we indeed enjoyed the best traditional paella! When I return to Spain, I will stay at this hotel and recommend that if you want to enjoy your time in Malaga, you consider this particular AC Marriott!

Yelp
Seems like a hotel that is going through a rebranding from another brand. Overall I enjoyed my stay and the staff was super nice. The rooftop is the place to be with stunning views and the DJ playing some good tunes.

Yelp
Great value, clean properties. The European hotels are generally more luxurious than those in the US but good value overall

Yelp
The food was totally acceptable, nothing to write home about. That said you come here to go to the terrace on the top floor. The views are awesome.
google avatar

Yelp
Location is fantastic, staff was nice and trying to accommodate guests. The rooms are old and in serious need for updating. If you get a room facing the street be prepared to sleep with earplugs... Breakfast is much below standard the one is expecting these days - and plan on spending a lot of time getting your food... it's sloooow.

Yelp
I have only been here for several hours. Staff are very helpful. Room is quiet and comfortable. There is a terrace restaurant with great views, pool area, and a nice bar downstairs . There are shops and restaurants near the hotel as well as Pablo Picasso museum , pedestrian areas. Beautiful town and hotel.

Yelp
I suggest that you get a GPS with your car rental if you've never driven in Europe! Not realizing that the street signs were not like back in the US, I printed directions using Mapquest! What the heck was I thinking!?!? After driving around in circles for about 30 minutes, my beautiful Spanish speaking wife convinced me to stop and ask for directions. Found it! Finally! The room was surprisingly spacious and very comfortable. The location is great as we were very close to so many things. The pedestrian street shopping area was a few walking minutes away. The hotel staff was quite friendly, especially as I approached them in my limited Spanish and asked if they spoke English, which they did. I would recommend this hotel if you are planning on a few days here in Malaga.

Yelp
The manager here is the rudest witch. She happened to be standing by the coffee station and my husband asked, "Excuse me, do you work here?" She put her hand up in his face, rolled her eyes and walked away. The barista quickly came over to ask what he needed. He was sweet and and answered his question. But the manager needs an attitude adjustment because she's pretty disgusting.

Yelp
Rooftop terrace is really cool! Would never have known about it if we hadn't been led there by a local. Passion Mojito was so tasty & refreshing. If you are okay with a sweet drink now & again, you should try one. The space wraps around offering views of the city in many directions. A must visit.

Yelp
This hotel is nicely located along a beautifully tree lined boulevard very closed to major attractions; the cathedral is practically right next door. Malaga is a more cheerful, bright and open city compared to Seville. The streets are well marked and pedestrian only In sightseeing areas. No more having to look over shoulder when one hears tires crunching sound on uneven cobblestone narrow alleys signifying approaching cars. Our room has a great view of the marina. The bed is comfortable. Because it's near the elevator it's a bit noisy. Even for gold elite members there is no concierge lounge nor free breakfast only high speed WiFi. One has to ascent several steps to reach the lobby. Wonder if there's handicapped access.

Yelp
Great rates and friendly staff. Room was always made up pristine and everything replaced. I highly recommend the terrace as well! Great pool lounging.

Yelp
Best rooftop bar in Malaga! Bring your camera! At night, the bar tables light up and music gets clubby, however not much space to dance so it's still a bar and not a club. The views are spectacular! And along with the view... drunk prices aren't that expensive. Not like the other rooftop bars. But like I said... bring your camera!

Jeanne O.

Yelp
Location is great! We enjoyed our room with a view of the ocean. We were on the 12th floor and could even open our window to enjoy some fresh air. The rooftop terrace has amazing views where you can lounge around the pool and enjoy a refreshing drink with a view of the Alcazaba. This hotel is right at the edge of the shopping district which is really nice. It's also just a short walk to the Alcazaba, cathedral and many really good restaurants. The staff was helpful, courteous and professional. We usually went to the AC Lounge at night for a glass of wine which was a nice way to end the day. The breakfast was good (it was free to us as my husband is a Marriott Titanium member) and more than enough to satiate. There was a great Nespresso machine in the breakfast room that was self-serve; nice detail! During our stay, we had to do laundry and there is a small laundromat nearby; very convenient. We were able to walk from the hotel to our bus pickup point for a tour to the Alhambra in Granada (maybe about a mile). Loved our stay here.

Yelp
Courteous staff, excellent-location. Recommend if you don't have much time & you want to feel the culture & Makaga atmosphere, with basic luxury. Terrace bar great, had a night cigar with a view. Morning stroll on the seafront is a Mediterranean must.

Yelp
The AC Hotel Malaga Palacio is a great hotel near the cathedral and cruise port. The hotel is an easy walk to everything from the picasso museum to the shopping district. The front desk staff was amazing as was the restaurant. We stayed twice in November and I gave them feedback through a marriott survey email and immediately received a response. I had just mentioned that the internet wasn't great and it would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the room. However, it was a great stay and pretty decent value for the money. I would love to return just for the helpful staff. The floors in the rooms looked worn and seemed like they had suffered the wrath of the balcony doors being left open both times we stayed but it didn't bother me. The bellman also don't help you bring your bags to the elevated reception area from street level---a little odd

Yelp
We were not hosted at the Hotel. But we went to enjoy the sunset at Marriott rooftop and to have some drinks. Rooftop with a very nice view and good drinks. We had also dinner at the restaurant; good food and service. The best meal we had in Malaga. The sea food salad was very yummy.

Yelp
Amazing hotel. Great view of harbor and walking distance to the old town and cathedral! If you want a great bar to watch soccer walk to sherlockholmes.

Yelp
The hotel was well maintained and serviced. The rooms all had views, ours was over the city with part of the cathedral. The rooms arw quiet with large towels and a variety of bathroom products. Breakfast was grwat in the moring with a grwat variety to suit all.

Yelp
We came here to eat lunch around 2.30pm and we're advised that the rooftop bar and restaurant only opens at 4pm. We then returned at 4pm and were told by the same doorman that the rooftop closes at 4pm and were not welcomed. It seemed the rooftop is only open to hotel guest or are selective of their guests. We also asked if we could return the next day when it's open and the receptionist only said "maybe, you can try". Not a pleasant experience.

Yelp
Located between the Málaga Cathedral and the Paseo del Parque, this recently refurbished four-star, Marriott-owned hotel also boasts a super-spectacular view of the Málaga port. One of the best located hotels, right on the fringe of the City Centre. Rooms are spacious. Showers have decent water pressure. Toilets have a separate bidet. Flat screens are high quality. Service is excellent - warm, friendly and hospitable like the Spanish are, with a dash of Marriott professionalism dialled in. I had an amazing experience on an uncharacteristically rainy night last week, where the bellboy actually offered me his own umbrella because all the hotel umbrellas were loaned out. Breakfast is good, not fantastic, but good and covers most of whatever you could possibly want. There are a number of bars and restaurants within a one minute walk, best of which (in my opinion) is the newly opened Palo Cortado next door. If there is a down side, I'd say it's their pillows, which I find too hollow but that's a first-world gripe easily solved by adding another pillow. I have no reservations in recommending this hotel.

Yelp
Definitely the place to go for having some glasses ! The view is breathtaking and it's a great place to take some pictures with the view of Malaga background

Yelp
5 stars particularly for the location. We were able to explore easily!!! Everyone was kind to us and the room was clean (we did not use the restaurants).
