Location is the only thing the AC Hotel has going for it. We were in town for my son's wedding held at Caras Park, and my wife and daughters (AKA wedding party) were locked out of our room because staff timed out our card keys even though we were staying two nights. ALL of the girls' stuff was in the room as we had all been over at Caras Park all morning setting up. I had to race over from the venue and speak directly with rude front desk staff who failed to apologize for the error. We ended up being 45 minutes behind schedule for the wedding.
As one of the priciest lodgings ($340+ a night) in Missoula, breakfast is $16 a head, and the beds are ridiculously poor. We won't be staying at the AC in Missoula again, as the exceptionally poor staff could have been heroes but chose to be zeroes. In a highly competitive lodging market, there are far better choices in Missoula, especially in this area. Look for either the Wren or the Residence Inn @ The Mercantile, which are both on the same block. The Wren is a cross between US Forest Service and REI with a very cool outdoor vibe, and the Merc/Residence Inn is gorgeous. In both cases, the staff at both hotels during previous stays was exceptional, and the AC management team should take note and do much, much better.
