Going into this hotel, we knew the risks. The hotel has a convoluted Destination Fee and many people are confused by or upset with these Destination Fees.
Personally, I don’t feel the Destination Fee is worth it. The value-add is minimal.
💰 $45/ day resort fee:
🇵🇷$22.50 back (per day) in F&B credit
💵 $17.50 at restaurant or bar (not breakfast)
💵 $5 at the lobby store
🇵🇷 Water bottles to the room each day
🇵🇷 Free bike rental (first come basis)
🇵🇷 Complimentary washer/dryer
🇵🇷 Beach towels, chair, umbrella, water
Water, WiFi, bikes, laundry, beach towels should be standard amenities, so there’s no value-add there. Maybe for the complimentary laundry machine, however, the laundry room was trashed and they were out of detergent.
The F&B credits are difficult to use. Aside from the scant hours that the kitchen and bars are open, a single appetizer (2 empanadas or 3 bacalao) is about $20 including tip. So their margins on that food are pretty astronomical.
At the “store” in the lobby, the cost of each item is also fairly inflated. In some cases, more than triple or quadruple than the same item at the store next to the hotel.
On top of all this, there was a false charge on my final folio and it took the hotel more than a month to respond to the request to address the issue. 3 emails, 3 calls, one text message to the front desk, and no answer. At that point I called Marriott Customer Support and escalated the issue since, judging by the reviews of the hotel, this overcharging happens often.
The AC Condado a fine hotel, and location otherwise, but it’s just a really unfortunate Destination Fee.
