After a long night-and day of flights-we were welcomed graciously by the reception staff, and offered “fluffy” little tea-based cocktails, in fall colors! We had reserved a king bed, executive room, several months earlier, with the included hotel breakfast. We were very pleased with the room size and design. We did not have the Parthenon view, but had 2 windows that looked out on the neighborhood buildings. There was scaffolding and presumably construction across the street, but all was quiet enough on our weekend visit. As is becoming typical of European hotel rooms, the lighting was dim: energy-savings, imo. We brought our adaptor plugs, which helped for charging multiple devices. We always use the safe. The bath was spacious, with “wet room” with tub and shower. Toiletries and towels easily fit under the open vanity. Marriott provides robes and slippers for guests. Of course, since Athens has an ancient sewer system, toilet paper is never flushed, but put into a separate receptacle next to the toilet.|The included breakfast in the Symposium dining room was perfectly curated and surpassed our expectations. Coffee, of several varieties, including Greek, was offered; I chose drip. A menu was presented; an entree could be selected, in addition to the buffet. The charming hostess even provided me a hand-written recipe for the Greek specialty dish of eggs scrambled with homemade tomato sauce and soft feta cheese- different from the hard crumbles I can buy in USA. The buffet completed the breakfast- fruit, pastries, cold cuts, cheeses.|The restaurant staff worked so well as a team. The hotel staff was professional and friendly. Wonderful Greek hospitality!|The hotel location was an easy 15 minute walk to Monastiraki Square, a local hub for souvenirs, food and drink, as well as the meeting spot for our evening food tour. |Also, check with reception for an evening reservation at the NYX rooftop restaurant, to be described in a separate review, but in a word, excellent.|The Academias Hotel was an inspiring start to our month in the Mediterranean countries, and we look forward to another visit to this lovely Marriott.
