DO NOT SELL YOUR CDs / DVDs / BLURAYs HERE.
I'm sure the place is great for collectors looking for rare items, but unless you're selling a signed limited edition Sex Pistols album, or a Criterion Collection copy of Solaris, don't bother dragging your collection to this place.
I broke my back carrying shopping bags full of DVDs and CDs here after talking on the phone to an employee who said, "Sure, bring your stuff in, we're buying!" To be fair, I was warned that they wouldn't buy most CDs, and the music buyer was very nice and honest, and looked through my collection with me. He bought 4 CDs out of something like a hundred, and paid me a grand total of $4 for them.
The "professional" DVD buyer looked through my wares behind a desk, outside of my view, for about 2 minutes, and we're talking about over a hundred movies here. He quickly told the music buyer he didn't want anything. He didn't even give me the courtesy of speaking to me directly. He just smiled and ran back to his office in the back, probably to admire his cool beard.
Now this wasn't a collection of B-movies or romantic comedies, this was a solid movie collection. If all they're looking for are rare items, they should post that on their website instead of announcing to one and all to drag their collections in for sale.
After this, I took my collection to DISC-O-RAMA on 8th Street btw 6th and Waverly. The manager was extremely courteous, took the time to painstakingly look over every CD and DVD I had, and offered me a VERY fair price for the entire collection. She even gave me a generous discount on an item I wanted.
BOTTOM LINE: IF YOU'RE SELLING, TAKE YOUR COLLECTION to DISC-O-RAMA! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE HIGH FIDELITY WANNABES. AT LEAST JACK BLACK HAD THE GOOD GRACE TO BE FUNNY WHILE INSULTING PEOPLE.
