Thanks for having this store here in Kenner /metairie. I wish they had enough stock of Football gear for adults. But I am able to order online . Nice people good value.

The store has received a nice remodel. The location looks so much better and easier to find what you are looking for especially when you can’t find anyone to help you as seen in photos. The store was really clean even the restroom however once again items in walk ways “trip hazards” could have been picked up but I guess at 4pm on a Monday the employees must have been at lunch lol. Even trying to check out people were M-I-A Over all I found what I was looking for at a average price and was happy for that. I would return to this location.

A little busier than normal, but the cashiers held their weight. The line was long with only 3 cashiers and they were still pleasant and courteous to their customers. Great shopping experience, great prices, I will definitely be returning

Crazy Day to shop on Christmas Eve, but the staff was prepared for the madness. Plenty of cashier s to get us through the lines fast. Great Sales too. I was in from out of town and was able to get a Saints and LSU Columbia Style shirts for less than $100.00 Great Deal! Store also had a great police presence inside and outside the store.

The manager in the sporting department helped me personally, and an associate, one older gentleman. I purchased a hand gun and ammo. The experience was absolutely fantastic. These two guys were truly knowledgeable of their work. The price was right on, truly thank you, Academy Sports.

I made a purchase of five navy outdoor armed chairs at approximately 5:20 pm on 4/10/25. The cashier at register number 8, an older white cashier, proceeded to inspect the chairs inside the covers. I did not observe her conducting similar inspections on other customers. I have never witnessed Academy Sports conduct such searches at the point of sale. I felt profiled.

Walked around to find workers for the grill section after standing there for 20 minutes waiting for assistance. Did not find nor get assistance at any point.

Horrible, wait 30 days for a weapon purchase. Gun shops in the city policy 8 days. Salesman no personality, I got the impression that he would rather go to break.

If I could give ZERO stars I would! This Academy is THE WORST STORE! There's never anyone to help you & the manager, (so she says) GWENDOLYN, treats employees HORRIBLY! No wonder they can't keep good employees at this location, she runs them all off! She's very rude to employees & customers and talks down to everyone & seems to think everyone is beneath her! The only time she interacts with anyone is to berate them or to talk about them to other employees. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! She doesn't seem to do THE JOB SHE GETS PAID FOR! The store is always a mess & it always takes a long time to checkout because there are never enough workers, hmmm I wonder why? Academy, you need to check your managers, especially at this location! I bet if she went to another location, that location would FAIL just as quickly as this location did. HORRIBLE! Go to Harahan or Dicks! Stay away from this location!!!

This Academy is a MESS. Recently shopping for shoes, there are sale signs under shoe samples that aren't on sale. The shoe boxes under the samples have no relation to the shoes on display. Their shoe department is a nightmare obviously maintained by no one. The clearance shoe department has no organization at all. Ladies, Mens, and children's shoes are just mixed together. Who has the time to sort through their mess? The fishing department in this store is also a disaster. Lures, hooks, weights, etc. are just everywhere. The management of this store cannot, or will not make the department managers responsible for the horrid display of merchandise. This store could be so much more! We go to the Elmwood location of Academy when we want to shop in a pleasant, less stressful environment.

This is a huge location and they have everything for sports and outdoors. I come here whenever I need something but after visiting the Saturday before Mardi Gras and waiting in a long line, I decided to write this review. The problem I have is that they have about ten registers but only 2 or 3 people checking customers out. The line just gets longer and longer and the employees do not seem concerned. Other than that one issue, which could easily be resolved, I do not have any other issues with this location.

I found the employees extremely helpful and nice. They were happy to answer my questions, take me to the areas I was looking for and just were an all around pleasure to work with. I found suns things I really liked and I'm glad I stopped in,

I've been dragging my feet on this review for forever. I normally like this Academy fine other than it's hard to find someone to help you and the shoe department can be a bear at times. It gets a little disheveled. The prices are fantastic and so is the selection, so I'll keep coming back. My issue is with safety, management, and chain of command. A few months ago I was shopping with my daughter and while walking through the store there was a ladder someone had left leaning against something and it actually fell on me and cut my face. It left a shiner that remained for about 2 weeks and I still have a lump under the skin. A salesman saw me bleeding and a little freaked out - my bell had been rung, and management was alerted. No one knew what to do so someone scribbled the incident on a piece of paper and said they'd be in touch to check on me and take an accident report. No one EVER called. I called their corporate office to find out what ever happened. An attorney took my call and said he was very sorry and would get right back to me after he called the store, also said they had alerted him at the time of the incident but he still needed info. Bottom line - he also never called me back. They're very lucky that I didn't sue Academy. I definitely had a valid case as there were no safety rules being followed. OSHA?!? And thank God that ladder didn't fall on my daughter or a small child. I'm still disgusted with the way things went and the complete lack of resolution. This was a serious accident and things could've been even worse had this happened to a small child. God forbid had this happened to my daughter.

On the north side of Veterans Blvd between Power/David and Williams, there is plenty of parking in front and is well lit at night. It is in a strip mall that is long and has a quite a few other stores. I came in last month to look for sneakers that were supportive for walking as my pair was worn out. Well this time, I wanted to get a couple of pairs, but that is really beside the point. I came here for the last pair, and as they are a national chain, I knew they would have a variety of options to choose from. I found several pairs to try on, but could not find the mate to one, found a couple of employees who were organizing boxes to ask them. I made eye contact and greeted them, interrupting their conversation in the same language they were speaking and asked my question. They both looked at me, looked at each other, and walked away toward the front of the store. I was able to find what I wanted, and went to the front to check out and was on my way after making the purchase. While I was able to find what I needed, I was slightly disappointed in the lack of conversation from employees. No one greeted me when I walked in, while I was shopping and was only asked if the one pair of shoes I ended up with was all I needed, even as I was explaining what happened in the footwear department. Oh well. Lack of empathy will only hurt the customer base. 3 stars for the huge parking lot that is well lit, and for accidentally finding a pair of shoes that when I was checking out I discovered were on sale. The last few times I have come, there has been helpful employees, so hopefully this was a random mistake.

My nine year old bought a BB gun with his birthday money, unfortunately it stopped working within hours. We went to return it to the store only to be told they do not return firearms. I said that's not what the receipt says, the terms are printed on the receipt. The manager said that there's a sign at the firearms counter stating that they do not accept returns on firearms. Ok, well I have not seen the firearm counter because this toy gun was on a shelf, not behind the firearm counter. Manager insists it's a firearm. I asked if they sell firearms to minors. He says absolutely not! Well, then this couldn't be a firearm since my nine year old was allowed to purchase it with his birthday money, right?? He insisted it is, in fact, a firearm ‍. The conversation went in circles, my son left in tears. Terrible customer service.

Poor service today. Went to ask a employee where to renew my licenses, since they had rearranged the store layout. He didn't even let me finish my sentence, just shook his head and waved me off. I asked him, do you work here? He just ignored me. Looked at me sideways and walked off. 12 years I've been shopping here and this was the rudest service I've ever received.

I enjoy the lay out of this store. It has been updated fairly recently. It feels more spacious and the departments are easier to navigate. That doesn't make up for the lack luster customer service at this particular store. It's not a shared experience among all Academy Stores. But at this store you will have a hard time getting staff to help you even if you can find them. On my visit today I did online pick up. Despite receiving a confirmation email, nobody seemed to know where my order was. A manger had to be called, who called to the back for my order and then I still had to wait for it. Seems to the purpose of ordering ahead for a quick pick up.

Had to brave metairie for ballet shoes. Academy's parking lot was gross with several mushed up dirty diapers. (Who does that?!) They need to get a sweeper truck out there. Inside it was clearance sale time with clothes tossed all willy nilly onto circular racks in the middle of the main aisle partially blocking it. Their dance shoe selection was good - they even carry tap and jazz shoes. I checked out their dance clothing prices and their capezio line came out cheaper than walmart's generic brand. So one stop shopping for me! Thing 1 had to pee so we stopped in the restroom. Gross. All but one of the toilets hadn't been flushed and/or had pee on the rim. The place smelled like mold. Needs a good scrubbing. The store is disorganised with not a lot of signage (especially in clothes). Employees are friendly and will point you in the general direction of stuff. Cashier was friendly and engaged Thing 1 in conversation while we were checking out. Mommy notes: Circular racks for kids to hide in (argh!), main aisle too packed for strollers or baskets, bathroom does not have a kid height sink, good selection of kid size athletic wear.

This location of academy does stock a wide range of items and is often most busy on the weekends (to be expected) The prices for sporting gear are pretty good compared to other retailers - and they often have excellent sales. Today I was able to score a pair of asics running shoes for $69.99 (I usually end up spending about $120) because I caught an unexpected sale and they still had my very popular size in stock. From socks to fishing gear, hunting and fishing licenses, everything you need for your pool, pick a sport and backyard it is likely to be available at Academy. Today the store was well staffed but there are times when you need to seriously search for a sales associate for assistance.

Academy is the worst sporting good stores I've ever been in. The shoe department is in complete disarray, the employees were unbelievably unprofessional. They will walk around and talk on their cell phones instead of asking customers if they need help. When you do ask for help, it turns out they don't know anything about the products they are selling. So I went down to Dick's sporting good store by the mall and got much better results from them.

I went to both Academy and Dick's this week for Christmas shopping and boy did I like academy more! I felt they had a lot more options and some amazing sales. Even right before Christmas the clothes were very organized by size and I got an entire workout outfit for around $30. Really appreciated the markdowns and the options available. During my entire experience there was never asked by a customer service person if I needed anything which is the only reason I won't give a 5.

Ordered a gun safe on Black Friday 2017 from Academy. However, never received delivery of same. Due to the holidays being over and no need for the gun safe any longer we asked for a full refund. As of today's date,January 28, 2018, NO CREDIT ISSUED. The customer service at Academy is awful and they take forever to do something. I would never order on line from these people. Horrible experience. Everytime you call you are assured that the credit is coming. Awful, NEVER ORDER ON LINE FROM THESE PEOPLE.

The first time I went to purchase a handgun and the first one I tried was broken. The slide would not go back. So I looked at a few more and settled on one. The associate knew nothing about handguns so I did my application and was put on a hold. They never called me, I had to call them to know it was approved. They never answered the phone so I had to go through the operator just to get someone. I went in and got the gun, proceeded to check out and their Apple Pay was broken so I had to use a card I didn't want to. The whole process took a few hours. Decided to give them another shot. Called to inquire about a shotgun and again no answer so I had to go through the operator. The gentleman who answered was the same gentleman who was in the store when I got there and rude doesn't even begin to describe his attitude. He told me that since my apartment address was different from my home address on my license I had to get a new license. Um no. I then provided my license, state ID card and vehicle registration all with the same address and he still said he could not sell me the shotgun. His name was Edward I believe, tall bald with glasses, so I asked to speak to a manager. Three managers and two associates later and they were still telling me I could not purchase even though I had just bought there. After two hours of debate in which I should've just left, they ran my credentials with the fbi three times. I was obviously approved and finally after three hours there went to the front to checkout. Do not ever buy a gun here. I have no idea what they did with my info in regards to the paperwork. Oh and the pistol I had bought two weeks before was lowered by 50$ and you guessed it, no compensation. Complete lack of customer service, management, communication, and Edward was the rudest person in customer service I've ever met. He tried to make me leave the store when he was the one who made the mistake and tried very hard to make me look bad and not get the other managers and employees to help me. After being thoroughly embarrassed for being absolutely in the wrong he left. I will never give them my business again. A few nice employees but they have no idea what's going on. Terrible experience(s). They tried to make me feel like I was doing something wrong or using a stolen ID when I have a perfectly clean record.

The worst store everrr one of the employees discriminated me and my family,poor customer services you ask for help and they ignore you or get mad I think they hate their job if you don't want to ruin your day please don't go to that store.

Worst customer service around. Walked in looking for an item they showed as in stock on the website ate the Veterans location. I saw an employee walking down the aisle and asked "Do you know..." and was immediately greeted with "Sure don't nope." I thought the guy was kidding so I chuckled and said once again "So, do you..." Again, he immediately said "Nope, sure don't." And people wonder why the big box stores are failing. I walked out and just ordered what I needed from Amazon. Way to go Academy!

I've been to this Academy several times for all sorts of outdoor needs and usually I find what I'm looking for at a reasonable price. If you think workout clothes are suuper cute but don't have the budget for a place like Academy, TJMaxx and Marshall's usually have similar items for less just down the street. Their local sports team paraphenalia isn't too shabby. The shirts aren't the coolest, but better priced than online NFL/NBA retailers. And if you're looking for well-priced rain boots for the Jazz Fest, pop on over here for a steal. You may not find the chic Hunter boots, but they have a cute array. I've had some hit and misses on customer service though the shoe section is usually stocked with employees like a car dealership lot. They tend to only have 1.5 check out lines open with a good bit of employees on hand. I say 1.5 'cause sometimes the Customer Service is a viable option. I'd make it a 3.5 if I could for their sales, which I hit up the other day while picking up some items for an upcoming event. Three pairs of running shorts and a tank for $10. They also have some pretty good Black Friday deals if you're looking to get your camo for duck hunting season. Yeah I said, duck hunting. Do I shoot? Who's asking? Did I outfit myself just to sit on the airboat 200 yards from the duck blind but still within the range of a sweeping shooting span. Maybe...

Terrible customer service. I used the restroom and saw it was a mess and several stalls were dirty. Tried to tell management but seemed to just get shrugged off and ignored. Realizing the rest of the store was a mess as well, nothing would be done. I went to check out and the lines were super long. We just left and purchased elsewhere. Won't return. Visited July 6.

The service can be hit or miss but this store literally has anything and everything you need for any athletic/outdoor/sport activity! I enjoy walking around and taking a look at all their merchandise. It's always very organized. The store is very easy to navigate. Their shoe department is huge! They have a shoe that can satisfy anyone's preferences.

Visited this Academy for the first time with a family member purchasing a firearm. During the process, a question arose surrounding one of the procedures in place. Instead of a response highlighting the reasoning behind the procedure, the Academy associate Amber responded with a raised tone and an eye roll; she would not explain the reasoning and proceeded to let us know that rules were rules and if we had any issues with it, she'd stop the sale (though my family member already purchased the firearm in full and we had no issue with the procedure). We were both taken aback by the unprofessionalism displayed. However, the saving grace was one of the team leaders Soha. She was extremely helpful, walked us thoroughly through store policies and was a joy to work with.

Academy has good prices and a better selection than Dicks, and this location has much better service than some other city locations. That being said, I've encountered both excellent salespeople, and some who are rather "average". This store one of the better places to shop for shoes, sports equipment, and shooting supplies in the New Orleans area, and certainly in Metairie.

The store clothing section was well stocked. The skate section was not. When I went down the aisle searching for inline skates, the worker greeted the worker behind me and did not acknowledge me while I was attempting to find something. I was about to interrupt their conversation to ask for assistance but decided to leave after noticing there weren't any stocked in my size. The other worker in the clothing section stated she was going to find information out for us and did not return.

I've never been to an academy sports but, it was drizzling when we were almost to New Orleans and we had an air boat ride the next morning! I figured better safe than sorry so we stopped to get me a rain coat. The store was really disorganized and I didn't care for the merchandising set up but, I finally found a jacket. They only had Columbia rain jackets so I spent $39.99 where I probably could have gotten a value brand for $19.99 but, it fit nice and I needed it. They had tons of hunting, fishing, etc gear and clothing! They had a nice selection of work out clothes and stuff as well! If your in a bind and don't mind digging I am sure you can find what you are looking for here!

Normally, I order online from Academy Sporting Goods. They have a pretty good selection at a great deal. I have a feeling they are based in the south predominately. I had a chance to visit this store and the store is pretty big. They have a good amount of camping, hunting, fishing gear for the outdoor sportsman. This store does have firearms, unlike Dick's Sporting Goods. In addition, this is the place to get your New Orleans Saints and LSU fan gear. If you're looking for a sporting store and you're in the neighborhood, I'd recommend swinging by this store for your outdoor shopping needs.

It absolutely blows my mind that I attempt to contact the store and play phone tag for over 30 minutes trying to reach someone over the phone with the pre-recorded operator giving me all the options, attempting to reach any department... Footwear... Apparel... Hunting, and no one answers their phone including hitting zero for the operator for 37 minutes. Absolutely piss poor operating

I went in to purchase a firearm and the dealer name johntan made me feel so Discriminated against because I made a error I went an got the background check done an he went on google an search my name for what idk he even named my siblings but why if I'm doing a background check thanks to Ericaa for making me feel better he also kept saying if I'm lying I will go to jail as of to say I'm buy it for someone else worst associate ever

This is not a store review because this store is good but this is about their online business. I purchased a bunch of Christmas items online from Academy and i have to tell you its been a nightmare. Not only do they charge your card your initial total purchase amount once they start to ship them they charge you the price of each shipment that is shipped out, mine being a total of 6 shipments. So your charge your initial purchase then the purchase of each shipment so they hit your bank account with double the funds each time something is shipped. Thank goodness im not hurting but this should be corrected. Not only was i charged the first payment but keep getting charge each time something ships just to cover them. so my total and bank account has becomes their piggy bank. But what about your customer who now is charged each time as their funds keep declining in their acct and then have to wait for the pending charges to go through in order to get their money back. this is just absolute crazy and i will never shop or buy online again from Academy. DO NOT BUY ONLINE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR BANK ACCT DRAINED FOR THEM TO COVER THEIR BUTTS!! THEN GIVE YOU BACK YOUR FUNDS WITHIN 3-4 BUSINESS DAYS PER EACH SHIPMENT!

A big national chain, so I don't really expect more than generic competence, but they get points for having a decent amount of ammo during the current shortage. (Even if some of what's on the shelf is in obscure calibers like .300 Savage and .35 Whelan.) I managed to score some 12 gauge 00 buck and a spare magazine for my Taurus 740.

Unbelievably bad customer service. And no one in the store could help find lacrosse equipment. Excuse after excuse. Never again.

With a store full of employees at 9:00 a.m. I should not have to search for help in the shoe department for 45 minutes. When I finally do find someone, it really shouldn't be am employee I've already encountered snuggling up to another employee in a corner. Add to all of this the fact that he wouldn't even pretend to look in the back for the shoes I wanted. This store will never see another cent of my money. Too many other retailers would be happy to get it.

Worse place ever to shop and to work..management is horrible....hard work doesn't pay off there!!!!

Horrible customer service. The employees were so rude. I hobbled in with a rolled ankle and was clearly judged by the employees for using the scooter. They treated me with disdain and did not offer to help with anything whatsoever. It would be terrible to come in permanently handicapped to this store.

Was here the other day... went into the fitting room. The attendant had an attitude from the minute I walked in. I asked for assistance with another size. She was lazy and didn't want to help. As a result she tried to insinuate that I was stealing, just to ruin my day. Stay away from here!

Way better than the academy in HARAHAN. Never go there. HORRIBLE SERVICE. A+ to this academy
