I rented a vehicle from them for 14 days and it was an experience! This place gets 3 stars because of its fleet and customer service. Granted, we know when renting a vehicle it won’t be perfect or new, but we do expect it to be functional and safe. When first arriving at the airport it took about 30 minutes to be serviced because it was busy. The person that helped me was a pleasure to work with but I overheard her coworker giving another customer a hard time which made me uncomfortable. The first rental they gave me (not pictured) was very stained up, outdated, and badly dented. They had no issues exchanging it for this red Elantra which also had minor damages and stains, but it was bearable. The Elantra ended up catching a flat on day 12 of 14 and customer service gave me the hardest time on getting a new rental. They wanted me to drive the car on the flat back to the airport to exchange it . The airport was 36 minutes away and I’m in a city for business that I’m not from, why would I do that? So they mentioned it’d be a fee and a two hour wait to get a new vehicle which was fine with me. They didn’t take the full two hours nor did they charge me the fee which was great but it was because I booked through my agency. They ended up bringing me a Nissan which had two maintenance issues on the dashboard so I ended up taking it right back to the worker that brought it to me. He told me it was still safe. Well, I got on the highway and if I went anything over 50 the car shook viciously. I ended up letting customer service know and they claim they took note of it but nothing was done to accommodate me. I wouldn’t book with them again whether for business or personal.

Stay away. I booked with them. When I went to pick up the car they told me it was not unlimited miles! But my paperwork says it is. That lady had the nerve to tell me that should of clicked in terms and conditions and I could if read the exceptions for florida residents. This is a terrible way to take care of an potential client

Very disappointed with Ace Rent A Car. I pre booked a car at FLL location. Car was not ready when I arrived at location, they forced me buy insurance at the counter even though I provided proof of more than adequate self insurace. Then to make matters worse they charged my credit card a drop off fee because Ace claimed I returned a car to a different location than I actually did. They take bookings at a decent price to get you there and then they add on many unnecessary fraudulent fees. Very disappointed. Would give zero stars if the Google rating would let me. ****EDIT**** FLL-349516 Tried the process off a claim with the customer care department, which it took several weeks. I started a claim the first day of my rental in which I provided my insurance details to the complaint department. (Same detail I provided at pickup at FLL location). It took 7 days to firat get back to me and they offered a refund on insurance for the remaining days of my rental. So obviously my insurance was adequate all along. So shouldn't I be refunded the whole amount of insurance considering I presented on the 1st day of my rental? It's not Ace's mismanagement that took many days to respond about the original claim. Ace admits fault but does not back it up with a refund?

Terrible! I took a chance after reading the bad reviews, but tried to save a few bucks and still went with them. BIG mistake! I ended up returning the car early and getting a car from a reputable company.

This was my first time using this car rental company but it definitely won’t be the last. Checking out and dropping off was smooth and efficient. The customer service was also professional and friendly. The price I paid was a bargain when compared to most other car rental companies. I received the exact vehicle that I reserved. It was clean and ran like a charm. I didn’t experience any issues with extra hidden charges or fees that I’ve read about in previous reviews. Maybe it was luck of the draw or maybe I didn’t do anything that violated the rental agreement. I will say that my initial experience was very pleasant. I look forward to doing business with ACE car rental again!

11-13-25 UPDATE: After calling them out about their last 13 reviews all being 1-stars, they have now gotten their friends and employees to give them 5-star reviews. Check out the last 3 reviews, they're all within a few hours of each other and very non-descriptive. Do not fall for their new 5-star FAKE reviews. Another shady move by this company. 11-11-25 UPDATE: As expected I spoke with customer service and got the same answer that they can't help me. They say they included the money they owed me in the insurance claim yet when asked, they could provide no proof of it despite the fact I had an itemized bill of the claim that doesn't show anywhere that they paid me the money. Now they are saying there's nothing else they can do. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY, ESPECIALLY THE FT LAUDERDALE AIRPORT BRANCH. They will blatantly rip you off. The manager is smug and arrogant. He doesn't care that the last 13 reviews of his branch are just 1-stars. Don't fall for their scam artist tactics! Ace Rent a Car at the Fort Lauderdale Airport is the worst! Their car's convertible top malfunctioned causing damage. I had to return the car three days early, which left us in a bind on vacation. I had to pay hundreds of dollars in their bogus fees. Now it's time for them to pay me back my deposit as well as for the three days I didn't use the car and they are blowing me off. I will not let this go. They owe me a lot of money. Their vehicles are garbage and their customer service is terrible. They are literally stealing money from me. STAY FAR AWAY from Ace Rent a Car! EDITED NOTE: Check out all the recent reviews on them. They are all negative and similiar stories to mine where Ace Rent A Car scams them out of money then blows them off. Watch, I will get some canned reply from them about how they're sorry about my experience and will look into it further but nothing will come of it. It's been nearly a year now and nothing!

Beware of the tactics and tricks this company uses to upsell and charge you more. They billed us for the original rental, then after we returned the vehicle, they billed three separate, additional charges. One is for insurance even though we declined their insurance and provided our own (the counter clerk called it “included basic coverage” but apparently it wasn’t “included” in the price of the rental and was billed for several days later). One is for a dirty vehicle fee because there was sand on the floor mats and their description is “if it takes longer than 2-3 seconds to vacuum an area in the car, it’s too dirty”. The third is a charge because our flight was changed and we asked if we could adjust our drop off time by a few hours. They said it was “no additional rental cost” to adjust our drop off time because it was still within the 24-hours window of our rental. What they didn’t tell us is they charge a fee for making the adjustment even though the “rental cost is the same”. Their team is definitely trained on how to phrase what they offer in a way that you don’t think you are going to be charged but the nuance of how they phrase it is predatory and they clearly intend to charge you then make you try to dispute and get your money back. As for the vehicle, the van we got was approaching 50K miles which is a lot for a rental and it had significant electrical issues. The electric doors and rear hatch didn’t work about half the time so I had to walk around and open and close them every time we got in and out. The van also had a very foul mildew odor and had obviously been very wet as all the seats showed water stains and the carpet in the trunk had been pulled from beneath the trim around the sides to dry it out.

I showed up on the 17th to pick up my vehicle, they informed me that I had a suspension of my driver's license due to medical. My medical had already been taken care of but they said I couldn't rent the car. I asked to switch the rental over to my wife and they said no, they would have to cancel the reservation and make a new one. The same rental went from $80 to $250. we live in the Florida Keys and have a Jeep in our garage. We just needed a vehicle to get down to the island. We have rented cars 100 times. We will continue to rent to get down to the house when we fly in and out but we won't use Ace any longer. They won the battle but lost the war. They not only lost the rental, they lost the upcharge they were trying to get and they lost a bunch of future rentals. Great business model, do your best to screw the guy at 11:00 at night, he'll pay it. Nope he walked and hired Lift. Didn't have to drive, pay tolls or fuel. We were blessed.

I originally dealt with someone named Carla who was rude and unprofessional. She did not want to help at all, was combative and just nasty towards us. She even went as far as to cancel our reservation because as she stated "we had a disagreement and I will no longer be servicing you because of that." We got there and was told via phone with another representative that the deposit was $200. When we got there she stated it was $500 and we just want clarification but she was haughty, and we had to ask to speak with the manager. She lied by the way stating he was on lunch and we couldn't speak with him unless it's over the phone. My niece spoke with Ben (who was honestly just trying to stay out of it and just let her talk.) Josh comes out after 3 minutes of my niece talking and after he heard our complaints said ok I will help you and see what we can do. He wasn't rude, he didn't give off "I don't want to be here vibes" or "idgaf vibes." He listened and provided us with exceptional services. I'm only giving 4 stars because it needs to be made clear on terms of the deposit especially if you are a Florida native. I just want to thank Josh and Ben for their exceptional service and pray that they have some type of training for Carla.

All the Ace rent a car - they always force you to pay extra insurance don't matter you have 10 million dollars coverage in your cars, they will tell you state requirements , if your reservation was 9am to 3pm few days and you returned car at 8am on the return date they still charged extra day on reservation won't give you 1 day credit back. Most staffs at return area are ruid and unfriendly

Don't believe your quoted estimate for renting with Ace Rent A Car--When our vehicle was reserved, we stated we had the required insurance coverage for the rental and this was reflected in our reservation estimate by email. Proof of this insurance was provided at the time of rental, but they still charged us for insurance. It was a sneaky add on and deceptive! Numerous phone calls have been made to correct this. We keep getting the run around. We have again provided copies of our insurance and been denied help. This is a very dishonest practice at this rental location. We would not recommend anyone use them!

Canadians Beware of @AceRentACar At ACE Fort Lauderdale, I was forced to buy their insurance even though I had valid Canadian coverage (OPCF 27 + $2M liability). Staff refused my policy unless "Code 27" was written numerically -- even after I pointed to the clause. I've posted pictures of the policy I had in hand that they refused to accept. They charged me $59 USD under duress, promised a refund if I brought proof, then refused. The only reason I wasn't charged even more is because I went back once my broker's office opened to get a letter in the exact predatory format ACE demanded, even though my coverage was already valid. I've escalated to Amex, the BBB, and Florida Consumer Protection. If ACE will fight this hard over $59, imagine what they'll do for bigger amounts. Predatory. Exploitative. Avoid them. #TravelScam #CarRental #ConsumerRights

I have rented a car at the terminal in FT Lauderdale Airport for the past 22 years. I have never been asked for actual proof of insurance until this year. Because I did not have a copy of my insurance stating that I had "out of state" coverage, my total expense was $273.46 for the week. This was an additional charge of $161.94. So much for the great price of $111.52 that I got from Priceline. Other companies in the terminal never ask for this information. Beware of Ace. I will never consider them again!

Positives: lower priced than the big boys like Hertz, National, etc. Vehicles are clean and in good condition. Service was good. Negatives: Ace is not in the airport. You have to catch a shuttle to Ace's location which takes time. Hidden charges. Ace charges you $15 per day fee for even one tollway charge on the vehicle. They offer a flat fee of roughly $50 to cover tollway fees at the beginning but said nothing of the $15 per day fee. I ended up paying $75 just in fees for 5 days of driving. Rip off!

This company is a scam! You book online where you are quoted one price, then you get there and they charge you double with no explanation. Only to find out they force you to purchase an extra insurance policy after the first insurance was pre purchased online. Lavern at the front desk is guilty of scamming customers into this and the manager Marco is the biggest scam artist of them all. Won't even speak to a customer because he's aware that he's an awful human being. Stay far away from this company. Bunch of crooks! I'd rate 0 stars if I could

But the young punk behind the counter states the card must match exactly to the drivers license. Either he's poorly trained or this company is run by buffoons. How in the world do business travelers using a corporate card use this place? Avoid at all costs.

Avoid this location at all costs. The staff here are rude and unprofessional. Steve tried to force me to buy insurance even though I already had valid coverage. When I asked to see ACE's own policy, he refused to provide it and told me to look it up online. After I showed him the policy myself, he ignored it and still refused to serve me. Completely unacceptable behavior and a waste of time.

I don't usually go into car rental companies being hyperaware but what you agree to pay at the time of booking for might not translate to what you are actually paying when you get there for ace rent a car. Idk if this is a Florida thng but wow they do slap on A LOT of charges. Apparently all the optional insurances listed on the paper is mandatory and they make you get supplemental liability insurance and coverage for wheels and windshields even if your credit card covers insurances. Another pro tip is to not fall for their lies when they tell you how helpful the toll pass would be after you reported that you are only travelling locally within Orlando as the $60 is not worth it. I was able to find toll free alternatives and all the toll roads that I used (only because I dropped $60 for the pass that they informed us was helpful) were accepting credit cards so we would not ever need the pass anyways. Ended up paying 100 more than what I signed up for at the time of booking which makes it more expensive than Hertz. So do yourself a favor and avoid ace. Just go with a vendor that has a location at the airport even if it is more expensive since you will be paying the same or more anyways.

I've never been so frustrated in my life dealing with a company that's this blatantly unethical. I rented a car from ACE Rent A Car recently, and it was a complete nightmare from start to finish. First, they fraudulently charged me way more than what was agreed upon. When I reviewed the final receipt, there were all kinds of extra fees that didn't even make sense. And get this--they charged me for insurance, even though I explicitly declined it when booking! I called them immediately, and their customer service was absolutely useless. The rep on the phone acted like they didn't care at all and refused to help. I've had rental experiences before, but this was next level. They're clearly trying to scam people out of as much money as possible. If you're looking for a company with integrity or at least some basic level of customer service, DO NOT waste your time or money here. There are plenty of other car rental services that don't take advantage of their customers. This one is a total joke. Stay far, far away!

For starters, they rented the car I reserved months ago because my flight was a half hour late. Then they charged me four hundred dollars more, twelve hundred total, for a filthy car that was beset with dashboard alarms, see the photos. This car has low tire pressure on every tire, it is filthy and the machine is demanding other maintenance at 42 K miles. On top of all these insults, the car felt as though a front wheel would fly off going over 50 MPH. I told them I didn't feel safe driving this wreck, and the young woman said bringing me a safe car was "impossible". Giving their customer a decent safe and clean car was impossible, too. What can I say?

Do yourselves a favor and rent elsewhere! My Mom Arrived Wednesday the 16th to pick vehicle "DEALERS CHOICE" or Similar with a photo of 3 vehicles. Obviously, this would not be 100% representative of the vehicles you would offer, but the price of $187.81 with all taxes included should have been the end of it. Upon her arrival she was told at the counter that the "ONLY AVAILABLE VEHICLE FOR DEALERS CHOICE" was a pick-up truck. She is 86 years old with double knee replacement and in no way was she driving a pickup truck. She can't even climb up to the cab. She was then told she had to pay an additional $97.00 for the rental. It was close to 11:00 P.M. she had been traveling all day and no matter what she said to the agent he refused to back off his statement. She provided the credit card in lieu of speaking with management to make matters worse upon exiting the reception area there were literally hundreds of vehicles (NON PICKUP TRUCKS) for use. I respectfully wrote to the manager who in turn had some staff write back and tell us. "I was asked to contact you by the FLL ACE Rent a Car location management team. He has reviewed your request and the sale at the counter and finds that the transaction falls within the limits of our policies. As such, no adjustments can be made." This is a classic example of bait & Switch, non-accommodating and 86-year-old women. DISGRACEFUL! Book anywhere but here!

I was excited to book a full sized SUV for a reasonable price. When I got to the car rental desk, the lady started out super friendly. Once we were done, I looked at my receipt and saw that I was charged an additional $130 for using a debit card. I understand that car rental companies require a credit card, but I did not have one. I asked if I could use my debit card because I had a return flight. She said "no problem" but did not tell me what I would be charged. So in addition to taking a $300 security deposit, I was being charged a non-refundable $130 which they write up as the minimum insurance coverage. If I used a credit card I do not need to "purchase" insurance. Then I told her that we could use my mothers credit card, she was traveling with me. The lady became super rude and told me I need a new reservation. After some back and forth she agreed to charge me $13 p/day to use my mom's credit card. When we were exiting the airport, the signs on where to go were not super clear. The gentleman that inspects the car before you leave was beyond rude and nasty. Never again! What a horrible experience and true example of price gouging.

Had a good experience here with no complaints. Check in was easy, the worker wasn't the friendliest but no issues there. We booked a "dealers' choice" car and was given a minivan. The van overall was clean besides the seats. The black cloth seats showed salt marks from previous drivers which could very well be sweat marks. We fully documented all the dings and dents on the car before driving off the lot and was sure to take pictures. Returning of the car was quick, just pulled up into the drop off line and went from there.

I would not recommend Ace. I've driven car rentals for many years and they inspected the car closely upon return with a flash light (never experienced this before...). They found a small nick in the windshield. Luckily, I took videos and pictures before I drove it as proof it didn't happen in my care. I've never experienced this detailed car inspection process with a car rental company and do not recommend or they'll try to charge you for things that happened prior. I also couldn't find the car, had to keep honking the keyfob, it was very hot outside. They also try to get you to sign up for extra stuff but I did t fall for it. Car was nice, that was the only positive.

Rented a vehicle car had 43,000 miles on it we came in late at 11:00 p.m. drove to West Palm Beach with steering wheel shaking grinding noises in the front brakes car felt unsafe to drive they told me I was completely liable for the car had to drive it back to them they could not bring me a new car would never rent from this place again after the experience on phone left car on side of road with keys in it at attorneys office so he could document car rented new vehicle at different place free from ace head ache the other issue was communication breakdown employees did not speak English very well so it was hard to communicate and we're kind of rude

Do not rent here.. I should have looked through all these horrible reviews before I booked. During my business trip, I did not use the vehicle much as most of my days were filled with meetings and business dinners near my hotel. However, on Friday night, while preparing to go out for dinner, I discovered a serious pest issue: numerous roaches were present in the vehicle. Initially, it seemed like only a few, but upon inspection, we noticed many baby roaches scurrying away from the light. I immediately called customer service to request a vehicle exchange, but they were unable to reach someone at the local office. I was instructed to leave a message, but I never received a callback. Consequently, I had to arrange for an Uber to get to dinner. The following morning, around 10:30 AM, I spoke with Allie, who apologized and assured me that a supervisor would call me back within 30 minutes. Unfortunately, that call also did not come. I called back at noon, as I needed to eat lunch and was waiting for an update about the vehicle swap. Allie informed me that the supervisor was busy and that I would need to return the vehicle to exchange it, as they were short-staffed. Given the circumstances, I did not feel comfortable driving the car back but my time was limited in being able to enjoy Boca Ratón after my work trip. I decided to return the car, I was extremely grossed out. When dropping back off the 2nd car the next day less than 24 hours later the roach infested vehicle was placed back in line for their next renter. I have reached out to upper management but based on the reviews I have very little expectation to hear back from anyone. I felt it was important to share my experience so maybe I can spare someone else's vacation from being ruined.

Ace car rental service in FLL is horrible. The customer service is not what I expected. I never had an issue with using my car insurance. The staff member insisted that I couldn't use my coverage because I didn't have enough of it. When in fact I did. He kept insisting I purchase the coverage, and he made me think I had no choice. I ended up having to pay an extra $190 for insurance. After the rental, I learned that under the Florida State Law, the minimum requirement is $10,000 for coverage on any car. The make, year, and model of your coverage have nothing to do with the amount you pay for coverage. Don't let these rental companies fool you.

Worst customer service EVER! Still trying to get through to a front desk, on hold for 23 minutes, they pick up and hang up. Again now trying and still waiting. The car smelled gross when we got into it. We let the check out person know, but this is the only car available "or we could wait" like 4 more hours for one to come in. They didn't honor the price we had through priceline, still trying to get a different car, and someone on the phone. Chat services say to call, so that didn't help either.

I booked this pay-at-the-counter via Priceline for $145.28. My credit card was billed $397.68. HUGE DIFFERENCE. I have never experienced this with any other rental car company before. I sent this to customer service after the trip, was talked i circles for months, then received an email that said, we cannot refund you anymore as this has been months since the trip and the information I just requested wasn't provided within that timeframe (to which, it was, they were just talking me in circles to avoid refunding their errors). We arrived late in the evening with a 2.5 year old on the verge of a meltdown, so I just trusted the counter person to do her job correctly. DO NOT DO THIS. They would not let me pay and my friend drive because the name on the card didn't match the driver. So we had to add an additional driver charge of $12.99 per day. All because I wanted to use my Delta AMEX to have double-protection. We stood there both with our insurance information (both more than enough of a policy to cover this), but were charged liability insurance at $19.99 per day without being told she did this or without an option of what to choose. There was a daily adjustment fee of $30 added, but it doesn't appear in the total. Except, when you run the 11.11% airport access fee, they added this $30 in so the charge was larger. I literally cannot match the 7% sales tax to any of the numbers on the bill - even using solver in Excel. It is a made up number, so I cannot tell if it includes items it shouldn't such as fuel surcharge - which should already be taxed. I do not recommend this company. They are using you. Use another - use one that let's you check-in yourself prior to arriving and you just pick the keys up, such as Hertz or Dollar. No issues, overcharges or oversights with them what so over.

I would give a zero but it's not possible. I would let you know my review on the car except I never rented it. I will add Priceline also has some blame because they just book you a reservation then walk away from anything further. Had a reservation this past weds. My flight was to land 4pm. I put in reservation for 5 as I always build some addntl time. There were bad storms across the Eastern US so delays all over. I knew would be late so let me be proactive. Priceline tells you upfront you must call the rental (bad business practice cause it shows you don't care). You call ace and it's a general 800 number and the guy says we give you a 4 hour grace period. As time goes on I know see my 1pm flight is gonna be more like 630 flight. Call ace back and they say we will transfer you to branch. Kept on hold 20 mins and never did anyone pick up. Hung up and called back and same lady answered and I said you know you transferred me and nobody even picked up just kept on hold so this time she gets me someone. I explain what's going on and they says well after 4 hrs it's not guaranteed we can give you the car you reserved but if we have cars you shouldn't have an issue. I get to FLL and clearly it's a madhouse at 11pm from delays all over. Get to the desk and can't find my reservation. Give them the number and he finds it. I explain yes I called 2x today and aware you may not guarantee the full size car I had, I just want a car to head home and get sleep. No problem sir until he tells me the total will be $360. I said my reservation was for $150 for the week. So sorry sir since it's expired now that is the rate. So you clearly have cars, clearly you can see there were mass delays to the airport. I get the this is the policy but you as a business also need to make good business decisions on common sense. This is a case of that. I kindly told the gentlemen to shove his car and rented from enterprise although for $100 more. And they wonder why their rating is abysmal. Whoever runs this place should learn some customer service skills. Also it would have been nice to tell me in that second call sir we may not have the full size car AND the price will be different. To raise it triple the original price is criminal. I'll await the BS reply from ace that won't in any way do anything for me but say sorry.

Agent flatly lied that out of country renters must purchase liability insurance, refused to even look at my proof of liability insurance coverage for rental car. In a pinch I have no choice but to sign and accept the insurance. I later found this in the fine prints "Proof of FULL INSURANCE COVERAGE that is transferable to the rental vehicle must be presented at the time of pick up. Otherwise, CDW and supplemental liability insurance will be required at the rental counter." After my google review. ACE cust service contacted me asked for my insurance proof (not sure why because they decline refund anyway, perhaps they were hoping I don't have coverage?) Their reason for declining a refund was "the insurance was signed for and accepted as well as used to cover the vehicle during your rental period." Seems like they completely ignored the fact that I had to sign and accept because of the lying agent. That's the way ACE operates. Catch you in a spot where you are not able to walk away then they tell you a lie that you must pay for a product that is not needed.

First time renting a car from ACE rent A Car. I have to say the service at the airport was really nice! I made the reservation for 11:30 am but I arrived 9 am and they were able to find me a car in minutes.. The car was a small SUV, clean, full gas, everything worked perfectly. The return was also really easy and fast. I do recommend to call in advance to ask for the rates they're offering and to arrange everything with them. I 100% recommend this company and I would rent from them again! Thank you!

They are 100 percent going to get as much money as they can out of you. And furthermore don't pay with an American Express something WILL break or go missing from the car. They are a very unethical company. Just know it's not going to go the way they planning.

They gave me a minivan that had a fob with a low battery. I was worried I'd get locked out of the car, so I called Rachel at the Ft Lauderdale office. She asked if I could please go to Walgreens and replace the battery myself, and she'd make a note on my account for a credit. .I said I would. When I returned the car, I specifically asked for the credit. Rachel asked me for the receipt. I told her if she'd asked on the phone to bring the receipt, I would have. In the end , no credit was given to me, and I'm disappointed in the way I was deceived. Shame on Rachel.

Rented from ACE rent a car at FLL and declined all insurance coverage as I have full coverage. I left rental counter with what I thought was my rental agreement. It turned out to be only the car key tag with car info and place to note any damage - no rental information or costs. Upon return of the car I received an email with the rental agreement including $152.91 in partial damage waiver fees. I called the customer service manager at FLL and explained there were unauthorized charges on my agreement. I was told I should have rectified the situation before leaving the rental counter. I explained that I didn't receive a rental agreement from the counter agent. I was told that this was IMPOSSIBLE, that no agent would let me leave without an agreement, even though two companions also saw there was no agreement. I was basically called a liar and that no refund would be possible. In addition, the counter agent tried to sell me inclusive toll coverage stating that there were tolls on highways where we were headed, and unless we stayed off freeways we would encounter tolls that could cost us plenty if we didn't have this coverage. Turned out tolls were only necessary if we entered EZ-Pass lanes which were easily avoidable. Sadly, and after the fact, I read multiple reviews that indicate this is not an isolated instance. Evidently we are not the only victims of these tactics.

Picking up the vehicle was mostly painless, however, the agent mumbled and was a low talker so I had to ask her to repeat herself with every sentence that she mumbled. She mad no effort to speak louder so I had to guess what she was saying. The vehicle was nice, no problems there. The day after returning the vehicle, I was charged almost as much as the original rental amount with no explanation. I called and was disconnected after 20 minutes on hold. They did eventually call me back and stated that the charge was for insurance. I stated that I declined insurance and she asked if I showed proof of insurance when I picked up the car. I told her that I was never asked for proof of insurance and she told me that if I did not show proof of insurance then she cannot reverse the charge. Filed a dispute with my credit card company. SCAM!

customer service is just as shady as the counter people. charge extra for insurance when you don't need it. I'lil never rent from them again, but i dont think they'll be in business much longer anyways.

Believe all of the negative reviews. They are all true. I have returned the car rental 3 days ago and they still have not release my deposit, have been trying to call to get the answer but was placed on hold for the last 2 hours.

Horrific experience. Rented a car through Priceline which stated I had unlimited miles on the confirmation. Went to pick up the car, representative said since I'm local u have to pay 49 cents per mile!!! This was NOT stated anywhere in the reservation which I showed her. She handed me a piece of paper showing their terms. She said I need to read through the agreement which I did That was on my screen. She told me to step aside, I did and when I returned she canceled led my reservation leaving me stranded! They are the most deceitful nasty company. DO NOT RENT FROM this company!!!! should be zero stars which isn't available

So I'm a business owner spanning 3.5 decades... I have rented several hundred cars ... As a yelp Elite member I've posted thousands of pictures from hundreds of reviews... So my observations are probably legit. To be candid the numerous negative reviews posted here left me apprehensive. I made a backup reservation with a different company at FFL... However the line for that alternate company was monstrous. The line for Ace was only five people deep. I left one of my kids in the other line from hell and waited with my wife for Ace. So in my estimation the check-in process was refreshingly routine compared to any other rental car company! Absolutely normal. Just now I was reviewing some of the other adverse postings here and I was thinking... Gee... They could be legit as they mostly sounded non-standard with abnormal circumstances? My situation was very straightforward. The guy standing behind me in line had a short conversation with me. He booked his reservation through Priceline and had rented through Ace before at this location. He sounded upbeat and said he had no problems or complications in the past with them. That was mildly reassuring as we waited for our turn at the check in counter. I was ready to deal with any adverse surprises.... No problems or "games" were encountered. So picking up the car seemed just slightly different from some big rental car outfits. You go in to the garage and in our case they pulled the car up for us like a valet... We cautiously looked over the car for damage before checking out and the staff member explained if we had any questions or damage to report... Just tell to check out person as we're driving away? Contact with the two employees in the garage was perfectly professional and normal. I'd even rate it as cordial and efficient. The lady checking us out at the gate was really nice and friendly!!! So the only possible gripe that takes our rating minus one star from five... And this is actually applicable to any rental car company for criticism... We had a mid-size SUV category that was about $75 plus fees... At $99 this was actually a dirt cheap bargain price compared to all competitors at the airport. So my gripe is that this car, a Nissan with the name I can't remember... It was laughable small! Again this is not unique to Ace but common among all rental companies. I looked up the description from the manufacturer and they called their own vehicle a "crossover". In brief reflection Ace is technically correct calling this a mid size SUV. Returning the car has been very straightforward at 5:30 a.m. in the garage. We were met by two employees who pointed us forward. The guy checked gasoline fuel level and walked a circle around the car. Contact was brief, cordial and professional. At that point that's the end of our story... Except just now I checked my bank charge account plus looked at the emailed receipt and the separate check-in record. Perfectly normal plus it's even better than most car rental companies who send me nothing like this after a rental! I really want to give them five stars... And on reflection I am going to give them five stars instead of four. In all fairness they deserve it. Looking at some of these negative one star reviews I'm going out on a limb and declaring SOME of them as unlikely. Ace deserves better / at least slightly better ratings then 1.5 ... I'd say they're at least 2.5-3 stars for an average. Chuckles

I will NEVER rent from Ace again!! Paid almost $1000 due to a bogus cracked windshield claim so they kept my $500 deposit. My husband and I waited for the guy who checked the car in before we left and he said everything was good and as soon as we got on the shuttle to catch our flight I get a phone call that the windshield was cracked. BOGUS CLAIM!!! NEVER RENT FROM THIS PLACE unless you want to pay more than you should. Also, we paid almost $100 more for COMPLETE coverage for damages (per the guy checking us in). I booked through Expedia and paid TRIPLE at Ace. I don't even give them a 1 star rating but that wasn't an option. After reading some of the other reviews, I see that they did the same to another customer who rented the Jeep Wrangler like we did. That Jeep must have had A LOT of "cracked windshields". SCAMMERS

What could improve? Everything related to customer service and hidden fees. The car itself was clean and had no issues. The customer service however is unacceptable. I have an existing account with ACE under my maiden name, and at the time of booking a vehicle was still my legal name. Since then, my ID is updated with my legal married name. This meant my ID didn't match the reservation. Even after showing my emailed receipt with the last name on the reservation, the attendant sending me a confirmation email to the email on record and me being able to receive and verify in front of him, I still had an issue. Props for security, but I had to jump through hoops. Then when renting the car, the standard $200 incidental should have been held on my credit card. Held, NOT charged. I was actually charged this amount and when I called to inquire was told it's because they never should have allowed me to take the car due to the name difference. Ummmm.... What????? Not only was the person incredibly rude but this is a completely made up reason (and illegal to charge a fee that the agreement I signed indicated is a hold) by the way. You don't just get to make up fees as you go ACE. I should supposedly be getting the refund in 3 days but you can bet that I will never be renting from this or any other ACE location again.

Flight delays caused me to lose my other rental I walked up to Ace in Ft Lauderdale - I wish I had the two gentlemen's names - because at midnight they relieved me of all my stress. They had a car. The price was $660 Less than the Fox Rental Car reservation I had(which FOX will Not refund) The two men were so helpful, they even walked us out to the car. Thumbs up yo the staff. The car was great also. Thanks Again My only small issue is registering yo pay the license plate tolls. I cannot add it to my SunPass Account, so I fo not know what is going yo happen.

If I could give no stars I would. This is the most vile rental car company I have ever dealt with. Rented a car for a week. When I went to get in it to return it (3 1/2 hours away to where it was rented) it wouldn't start. They told me to leave it there and they would take care of getting it. I even had the hotel try to jump it thinking it was the battery. Still wouldn't start. After I get home I find out that someone from Ace drove 3 1/2 hours to get the car and had to TOW IT BACK to the airport. I was charged for not putting gas in it and a drop fee for not returning it to the original airport. How was I supposed to put gas in it or avoid a drop fee if I couldn't drive it? It was a piece of junk that wouldn't start. This company will rip you off. How they stay in business is beyond me. Just look at their reviews. 98% of them are terrible. This company should be shut down. I think the only way they stay in business is because of the number of people they have ripped off. Rent from a worthy rental car company. Do not use Ace!!!!

I have rented through ACE Rent A Car several times. Excellent service with Alma and George, very friendly , helpful, great at problem solving, and very professional. The car was clean, ran great very happy with the rental experience. ACE is my go to car rental highly recommend them. Appreciate the great rates as well! Thank you ACE.

I would give zero starts if I could. I booked the reservation for my boss who travels 3-4 times a month to different locations. Never have we ever experienced worst customer care. The agent George was very rude and tried to argue. Instead of being helpful he tried to create an issue and tried to aggravate the situation. Cancelled reservation on spot without getting approval or asking. Tried to sell insurance even though we paid insurance while booking. We will never book with ACE and we strongly recommend not to go near their counter.

Don't consider renting from ACE Rent A Car in Ft. Lauderdale. I should have listened to the negative review I read! Their price charged was much higher than my Expedia quote. They explained "the Expedia quote is 'just an estimate". Forewarned is forearmed.

BUYER BEWARE!!!! NEVER USE ACE Rental Car!!!! I rented a vehicle in Florida from Ace Car Rental at FLL airport and I was assessed a $250 cleaning fee because there was sand on the carpet. You heard me right SAND!!! I don't mean a bucket of it either. I was told that the vehicle wasn't returned in the same condition as when I rented it. My argument was that they would be vacuuming the vehicle in order to re rent it so why am I paying $250 for.that!!!??? VERY EXPENSIVE LESSON learned.

Just reiterating. ACE doesnt allow you to use your own sunpass or ezpass. So if you expect to go on a toll road, they make you purchase their pass for the entire duration of your car rental even if you expect to use it for one day. $14.99/day. Beware!!
