What a wonderful place to stay! The apartment was lovely, and the owner was very helpful and accommodating. We took the night train to Berlin, and they had told us in advance that we could drop our luggage in the morning (which was already very much appreciated). But it got even better: they let us check into the room at 8 am. So we could take a shower and get some rest before discovering Berlin. And on our last day, we could let our trolleys in the room during the day. The rooms are very nice, the bed linnen and towels are clean and soft, the shampoo/soap is great (not the typical agressive soap you sometimes get in hotels, that makes your skin dry and itchy), the staff is very kind and helpful, the location is great,… Definitely a place to remember.

Nice room but their faulty hotel minibar tried to poison us when it leaked ammonia gas in our faces and we ended up in casualty. The hotel eventually paid the hospital bill but did not even offer to give us any compensation for a very frightening experience when the faulty mini bar in the room leaked ammonia gas in our faces when I opened the door. Which was like being tear gassed. You would think they would at least offer to refund us the cost of our 2 night stay. But no. After multiple phone calls to bookng.com and messages to the hotel they offered a measly £30 refund for all the upset.||The room itself is nicely furnished but the reception is only for a few hours a day so when we had the issue it took a while for them to turn up. The onsite restaurant is now closed, which they didn't tell us after booking, so while there is a pretty courtyard garden there is no breakfast, drinks or dinner service so you'd have to buy a takeaway or eat elsewhere.

We visited the ackselhaus over Whitsunday weekend and stayed three nights. This is a unique and very pretty boutique hotel. Every room is specially decorated with furniture and other items that the owner collected while traveling. Our room was the beautiful Strandhaus (beach house). The location of the hotel is in the cool Prenzlauer Berg neighborhood, which offers plenty of good restaurants and interesting shops. The hotel is quite close to Alexanderplatz, and public transportation is easy by tram. Guests have breakfast at a nice cafe that is two doors over on the same street. (The cafe only opens for breakfast.) ||My only qualm with ackselhaus is that they would only take payment in cash. Who carries hundreds of Euros in cash nowadays?? The receptionist argued that they could offer a lower price because they wouldn’t have to include credit card fees in their calculation. What they forget is that foreign visitors have to exchange currency into EUR bank notes, where transaction fees are much higher than on a credit card.

We were an entourage of 3 couples. One apartment with a kitchenette and living room and two spacious studios. Each room had its style. There is limited reception hours and no breakfast can be served. They compensate by being available through WhatsApp and they do help you out quickly. There are several nice cafés with breakfast nearby. All in all a good and exotic experience and a great location. We got a 60th birthday celebration worth remembering. |

Excellent hotel for the price. The rooms are beautiful, full of light and uniquely decorated, the staff is very friendly. It's also a nice area with pretty quiet streets lined with trees, bistros and breweries. The metro/bus will take you to the city centre in 15min. There's also a welcoming cat at the reception!

I would start by saying that Ackselhause is a true boutique hotel. The rooms are really spacious and decorated exceptionally. Breakfast each morning was in a Cafe in the building we staid in (two doors down from the office's building/rooms).||Staff was very helpful and friendly. The location was perfect for going to local cafes and restaurants, as well as catching the tram (at the corner). A small grocery store by the team stop was great for picking up supplies.||Bottom line, this was our first time in Berlin and after seeing the city, wouldn't recommend anywhere else.

We just stayed here one night, and that really was enough. It is a rather eccentric hotel, which is apparently part of its appeal for the people who stay here. We had not anticipated the stairs, the difficult door locks, and that the floor in the room would be uneven. I was recovering from a broken knee and was using a cane while we were in Berlin. This was not a great hotel for me: I was afraid to walk in there very much. The room (with a ridiculous huge bathtub, next to the bed) is on two levels. Even though there were subtle lights that turned on when I walked near the edge, it was pretty disorienting. -- There was no grab bar in the shower. -- The bed itself, I will say, was the most comfortable we encountered during two weeks of traveling. -- The decor in the room at first seems very impressive, with high ceilings and tall windows. But upon a closer look, the huge mirror frames were made of plastic. The framed sepia prints were framed without glass. So, a good look, done on the cheap. The money in the room was put into the bed and bedding.

Picasso Room details well taken care of in the design. Cash only seems a bit extreme for rooms costing hundreds of euro per night. Stefan (or was it Steven?) at the front desk is well informed and helpful. Some guests may do well to bring their own ‘real’ shampoo and conditioner - you receive the friendly BIO all-in-one in the shower. The Hotel managed a bit of construction work while guests about very well.

Yelp
This hotel consists of three different locations within each other in the middle of Prenzlauer Berg. I stayed over New Years in the BlueHome portion of the hotel and it was very nice. Reluctantly, I had a room that was directly on the inner courtyard -- but it turned out to be very nice with a small window in the floor that was over a coy pond (!) The beds were heavenly comfortable and everthing was new and shiny, very nicely upkept. Very sexy hotel room. My only problem was the location was a tad odd, I suggest renting a bike as your nearest transportation options is the tram which can be quite random.

Yelp
Love Ackselhaus! We arrived off of an early flight and our room wasn't ready so they gave us another, bigger room. They were accommodating to us the entire time. There are restaurants and bars in the area, and little parks and beer gardens nearby. I would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
I've stayed here on two different occasions and both times have been excellent. It's not really a hotel in the traditional sense, it's more of a cluster of suites/apartments spread over a few floors of a Berliner altbau building. The location is great, just around the corner from the beautiful Kollwitzstrasse where you'll find dozens of bars and restaurants. The rooms are super stylish. A lot of attention has been paid to small details. Ultra comfy beds, modern furniture, tasteful art on the walls, wifi and even kitchenettes with refrigerators. It's a very sexy place. Stylish and hip, without a hint of pretension. Perfect for couples looking for a romantic getaway in Berlin.

Yelp
Friendly staff, great rooms - this is what hotels should be like - and not the huge chain bed bunkers Holiday Inn etc. offers. Do not mix this hotel up with the Axel Hotels - which is a chain of gay-hotels throughout the world. This is personal, small and you can still feel hospitality as it should be. This place is well located - not even two minutes away from the next tram stop which either takes you to Alexanderplatz, or to the Ring S-Bahn within 15 minutes. The trams travel every 5 minutes till 22:00, and after that every 8 minutes till 0:30 - and if you get back later than that, walking from alexanderplatz takes about 10 minutes by foot. Three stars - because the place is relatively expensive. Compared to other cities this place is cheap, yeah - but for Berlin it is expensive. During Fair Trade dates, they double the price of the rooms. On the website it says rooms from EUR 180,- / night - but I think this is a broom closet which is always in use - as each time I wanted to get friends to stay there - the quote was between 280,- and 460,-/Night. Which is steep.
