I've been seeing Alice for 17 years now, and I cannot say enough great things about her and her work. BEST SALON ON THE UPPER EAST SIDE. Alice is the best hairdresser I have ever had. I went in with overly damaged, self-bleached hair. Not only did she save the color, she gave me a fantastic cut and my hair feels healthier than it has in months. She really knows what she is doing. The entire staff was pleasant and professional, and the salon itself is very welcoming and has a great vibe. Don't waste your time going anywhere else in Manhattan! Alice was professional, expert, and exceeded all of my expectations.

I have been coming to AD Hair for many years and I would never consider going anywhere else. Not only is Alice a Master Colorist, she also has a great eye, understands the customer needs, and helps clients make the best decision for them. I have never been to a salon that cares enough to educate their clients along the way. This experience, changed my view on going to the salon. At AD Hair, you make an investment in your hair and you are taught how to care for my investment. What products to use or not use, without being pressured to purchase the products. Other salons may give you what you ask for, but if your ask is not realistic, then you might as well be throwing your money out the window.

Best haircuts I have ever had - twice , by Alice .i have frizzy hair that I brow dry and iron straight, medium length. Other salons typically want to overly texturize .. or undercut the back , or overly layer , so I'm always wary of a new place and starting over . None of this works with my kind of hair . I'm so glad I found Alice by all the great on line reviews and Facebook comments from Many diverse sources . It's the best my hair has ever looked! Healthy and great . Alice understood my concerns and made a great shape, and it has movement without being chopped up . She was very careful and skillful in every snip . She is also a very lovely , kind person , made professional suggestions and advice ... it's a clean salon and Deb is also very nice. I'm so happy I found this salon and Alice.

I started seeing Alice for cut and color during the pandemic after a year of both coloring and cutting my hair myself. (Zoinks! I know.) I have sensitive skin and was experiencing a lot of hair fall out due to Covid and stress. I also have really dry hair (partly because of my curly texture and partly because of thyroid disease) and she uses the gentlest products possible to chase away my dreaded grays and leave my hair happy and healthy. She also goes out of her way to educate clients on proper hair care and maintenance so that you don't need to experience unnecessary hair woes that can easily be avoided. What she does with hair is truly a science and she's so generous with her knowledge. At my last appointment she added in some much needed layering that left my curls so bouncy without losing a lot of the length that I've been working so hard to restore. I was delighted! The shop itself is clean and beautifully decorated and her assistant Jen is always so friendly and quick to offer beverages and make sure I'm comfortable throughout my appointment. Thank you, Alice!

Ever since I moved to New York, I had been searching for someone that can deal with my crazy, curly, blond.... but dark on the root hair. And ever since I found Alice, I'm hooked! Sometimes I'll come in after 5 months hiatus, and I'll come out looking amazing! She can take it from any crazy state it's in -- to brand new. Compliments from friends, colleagues, to people on the street. She is truly a master of color AND cut. She watches out for the integrity of your hair (like when I say I want to be platinum) and truly looks out for the best fit for you. I trust her to the point where I could be blindfolded and know I'd still be in good hands. Go to Alice!!

Alice is the only person who has been able to lift my dark hair and previously colored hair to the brightness level that I've wanted to achieve while maintaining the integrity of my hair. I've tried salons all around the city and I find myself always coming back to Alice! I always get compliments when she colors my hair and she's done two really amazing bayalage corrections on me in the last 2-3 years - a super cool red bayalage most recently. I've learned to not stray from Alice and her amazing skills!

Amazing experience every single time! The minute you walk in the door, you're welcomed with a smile and treated like royalty by Alice and staff. I've been coming to Alice for (long hair) cuts for a while, but recently decided to change my look and go short. I felt in the best hands with Alice! Over the course of a few months, we went shorter and shorter and Alice developed the perfect cut for my style, face shape and hair texture. She took extra time to explain how to style my new cut and which products to use. Not only is Alice an incredible stylist with a love for what she does, but also a fantastic business woman who knows her clients well!

I went into the appointment excited because it would be my first time dying my hair blonde. The first red flag was when Alice, who was supposed to be doing my hair, came up and acted surprised when I showed her a blonde reference photo. I informed her receptionist when I made the appointment that my intention was to try and go blonde but when I was there she pretended as if I had originally asked for balayage and that she was going out of her way to do blonde for me. I showed her multiple reference photos of exactly what color and cut I was going for and she warned me that due to the wash out purple dye I used 2 years ago my hair might lift to an orangey color and not that light (this is fair and i understand). However, once they were done with dyeing my hair i looked in the mirror and my hair was white at the top with stripes of my natural dark brown color throughout my head. The entire time the stylist was acting as if she was doing me some huge favor, repeatedly saying "I'm doing you such a favor right now you wouldn't get this anywhere else", as if I wasn't paying her $500 dollars to do this for me!!! I was extremely unsatisfied with my hair considering the layers looked like they were cut at home and my color was 5 shades lighter than I had asked for with an 1 inch of dark roots left on the top of my head. I went back after Christmas and asked if they could fix it because I was not satisfied and they were extremely defensive, again acting like they had done me some huge favor that no other salon would have done. They offered no discount or even sympathy and said the best they could do was schedule me in for a two weeks later. I ended up going to another salon to get it fixed and when I got there the stylist gasped because my scalp had been stained with bleach from my appointment at AD. My hair was dark underneath essentially creating skunk stripes on my head. The other salon fixed it in less than an hour and resolved the issues I had that the employees at AD said there was nothing they could do about. I would not recommend this salon to anyone getting their hair done as the staff was treating me as if they were doing me a huge favor when it cost 500 dollars! The color was completely wrong and stained my scalp with bleach and the "layers" I asked to be cut were almost non existent. If you are under the age of 65 I would not recommend this salon. I've been seeing Alice (AKA hair genious) for years! I left there yesterday with yhe BEST hair color and cut!! AGAIN! Alice is truly gifted - I witnessed a hair disaster come in and she was sooo amazing with treating the hair disaster as well as the person in her chair. I will be a loyal customer here for years to come - no other choice!

Had such a lovely experience at AD salon this afternoon. Alice and Gen made me feel instantly welcome and comfortable, and I was lucky enough to get to meet Debbie and their pup Brooke as well. Alice did an amazing job on my hair, taking it from a brassy mess of roots and split ends to the beautiful, elegant, healthy blond of my dreams. By far one of the best cuts I've ever had. I almost wish I colored my hair to see what other magic hair powers Nikki has. Nikki had me sit in the chair before we started and we had a very in-depth conversation about my hair goals, what's been going on with my hair lately, and how I wanted it cut. She really listened to me and I could tell that she knew exactly what she wanted to do with my hair. Let me tell you, this is probably the best haircut I've ever had. First time getting hair colored since moving, also, very first time bleaching at the root. Alice made the whole process so smooth and was so fun to meet! Along with her salon staff, I felt they did an excellent job with such a drastic change. Highly recommend!

I am a long-time client of Alice Hair, who continues to be a client, despite not having lived in NYC the past couple years. I have very fine hair that I can't just take anywhere, and I am super particular about to whom I entrust my hair color and care. Living in Los Angeles I've gone to the trendy salons, the celeb spots, the fancy ones, and the Nine Zero One that is the hot place for all the stars. But Nine Zero One is no Alice Hair. Nor is any other. Even the salons in Dubai don't compare. Alice and her staff are true hair artists. They are passionate about their craft and really listen to their clients. They are experts in balayage and color ... whether color correction or just that dreamy look that you think is only for the stars. I come to Alice Hair and I'm treated like a Star and I leave looking and feeling like a Star. Incredible color and treatment. My hair leaves better than when it started. If you're in NYC even on a long stopover like I am today, go to Alice Hair if you're ready for beautiful hair. You will not find an all around better hair experience than at AD Hair Studio. First things first - Covid safety precautions. Only scheduled appointments are allowed in the salon and even those will be temperature checked before being allowed to enter. They require a contact tracing form to be completed and will offer you your own disposable mask and hand sanitizer to use while in the salon. They have multiple plexiglass partitions and keep ample space between all stations. Further to this every. single. surface is sanitized after a client comes into contact with it. The staff wear masks and gloves the entire day. Ok, now the fun stuff! Alice (one of the owners) is a master colorist and has trained her entire staff. Her industry and product knowledge is truly unmatched. Over the many years I've been coming to AD Hair Studio they have taken my hair on a journey and it's always remained healthy - even during and after two pregnancies! I never feel uneasy about going there as I have every confidence in their abilities. They know hair so well and are honest with their clients about the condition of their hair. If a requested procedure will compromise the health of someone's hair, they will work with their client on devising alternative options. Even when my hair felt unfix-able they were able to figure out a way to make it better and guide me on how to help it regain what it lost. It may sound crazy but I've never not loved my hair after a spin in Alice's chair.

A++++++ I was going to the same salon for over twenty years and loved my colored. Owner moved so I went to the person who took over his salon five times. The first few times were ok but it became progressively worse to the point that my hair was completely damaged and the highlights were burnt orange, choppy, and so disgusting that I couldn't look at myself. Even the haircut was blunt and I feel like I could have cut it better. Went on a consultation for a new salon and the person was AFRAID to touch my hair and then I found Alice!!! Wasn't hoping for much bc my hair was so destroyed but she absolutely saved my hair and it came out AMAZING!!! Granted it was the first time and my hair is a work in progress, I was blown away at how she was able to correct my highlight. She took so much time using three bowels of color, she had to do a double foil on some of the pieces, which I had never seen, very very fine threading, and she did a treatment to try to salvage the hair. I was blown away at what she was able to accomplish!!! She is a true color master and I am soooooo happy!!! Also Jen, did a wonderful job with the wash, she has a soft touch and doesn't rip the foils out and she is very talented with the comb out and dry!!! You will be very HAPPY and receive EXCELLENT service at this salon!!!

My hair is my security blanket and I DO NOT let anyone touch it. I have classic jewish-girl-hair. It's extremely thick, wavy and I like to keep it long. It is really hard to find someone who understands how to work with my hair. THE TRUE TEST IS HOW YOUR HAIR LOOKS THE NEXT TIME YOU DRY IT ON YOUR OWN! Any salon can add curls and make your hair look beautiful when you walk out of the salon. But only great cuts will still look AMAZING when you dry your hair yourself. SEE PICTURES Alice is now my girl! I loved her personality and how she took her time to make sure I was happy. The salon is also very clean and the entire staff was friendly and welcoming. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

I've been going here years and I don't trust anyone else with my hair. The stylists are very talented, I'm always getting compliments on my hair because of them. High recommend this salon!

Came in for my usual five week visit with Alice to make my hair happy again. To my surprise they did new renovations and updated the shop. Love the new clean look, but no change in the comfort of feeling at home with a welcome greeting with wine Irish black tea or coffee. I am so happy they finally opened the side walk in front of shop Second Avenue finally cleaning up in that section. Just beautiful easy commute Love this place

They listened exactly to what I wanted for my hair and had the patience to teach me on how to style it and solve my volume dilemma . My hair is always perfect by the time I leave, and I don't know anyone else that can get it this white or leave it so healthy and shining. This studio was wonderful. I had never had any sort of "real" haircut before and was going from butt-length hair to a variety of pixie. I got a recommendation from a friend to try Alice. I called to make an appointment and was able to get one for that night, but not long after I received a call asking if I'd prefer to see their "short hair specialist" in only two more days. This acknowledgement and offer set me even more at ease about going in. Alice was such a delight, took at look at the photo I was interested in, and made adjustments to my face and head shape. I felt safe in her skillful style, and absolutely LOVED the cut I got. Apparently so does everyone else given the number of compliments I've received. I would recommend Alice in a heartbeat.

I was feeling really down in the hair dumps. Didn't like the color, didn't like the cut. I was staying on the UES for the week and after reading all the fantastic reviews here for Alice Hair, I first went by and just dropped in. Alice just happened to be there and took the time to sit down with me, really listen, kind of brainstorm ideas. I could tell by the convo that she just totally got it! And I was really impressed by how much time she spent and how kind and friendly everyone there was - no salon-y attitude! When she knew I was only going to be in NYC for a few more days, she also managed to fit me in for an appointment two days later! When I came back two days later, it was clear that Alice had actually thought about what she was going to do with my hair in the interim! And she was so enthusiastic excited. How can you not be won over by that? And that was even before I saw the amazing results of the color, highlights, and just a tweak on my cut to get my hair going in the right direction, but one small tweaks that made a huge difference. Just trust her and go.

Another amazing hair experience at my favorite UES salon! Alice redesigned and fixed my whole look the first day I walked in just over a year ago and I haven't looked back since! She works her magic & I walk out looking fabulous every single time. My friends & co-workers constantly compliment my hair, even weeks after I've been into the salon. I'd been going to an Aveda Salon since May, where my stylist was very sweet, but seemingly unwilling to do what was necessary to keep my very short hair neat and chic - mainly, to use the clippers at the back and near my ears, and to keep a happy balance between just short enough and too short, so that my style was feminine rather than ending up sort of butch. It was a crap shoot sometimes, with regard to the butch-i-ness, and I'm not a fan of a crap shoot, so I switched salons. I got set up with Collette at Alice 2 months go, and she nailed my haircut on the first go. I went back for cut #2 a few weeks ago, and the same thing: exact hair cut I'd asked for. She's also very kind, and easy to chat with, and both times I've left the salon very happy. It's hard to find someone who can do hair that is short AND stick straight AND baby fine AND very thin and still make it look great, so I'm glad to have found Collette and Alice Hair Care. Also - everyone there is just so friendly. And Kat has shampooed me both times, and she is very gentle and gets the water temp just right. No getting frozen or scalded, thank heavens. It's a bit further than my last place, but I don't at all mind.

I finally remembered to come back here and post an updated review for Alice! Vicky was my stylist for many years here at Alice, but sadly, she moved back to Ireland over a year ago. She has been missed ever since! She did leave me in excellent hands though. I've been fortunate to have both Emma and Hazel do my cut and color ever since. They are both wonderful! They both understand exactly what I want - my highlights & low-lights are always done perfectly and my cut is done with precision. I never leave Alice feeling disappointed - I always walk out of there feeling like a glamorous new me has evolved! What are you waiting for? Call now and make your appointment!

I absolutely love this salon!!!! I passed it often and finally decided to check it out. My husband and I wanted to try a keratin treatment so we figured we'd give it a go. I'm so happy we did. The staff was so sweet and welcoming from the moment we got there to the moment we left. Mairead is an absolute doll she gave me a gorgeous long layered cut and my keratin treatment and I am OBSESSED, I have extremely long thick wavy hair and with the summer heat and humidity it gets sooo frizzy. I l love it! So easy to style my hair. Deb gave my husband his keratin and a gloss which we both love, shes awesome and I love her vibe :) I will definitely be going back and recommend them to anyone... it doesn't hurt that they serve wine also :)

Took a risk and decided to try a new place. Alice and Mairead are very nice and friendly people. They made me feel welcomed. They also gave me some wonderful tips for my hair. I had a delightful haircut experience at Alice's. Collette did my hair, and I am so happy with my cut. She described a lot about what kind of products would be good for my hair since it's so thick. The cut was done quite quickly. Cat blow dried my hair and did one of the most thorough jobs I have ever had. I love the character of the place. There's a bit of visual stimulation - beads, paintings - that make this place special. Collette mentioned that Sundays are a lot more tame than weekdays. Also, she mentioned free bang trims for customers. ALSO, I got 10% off as a first-time customer! I am definitely coming here for my next haircut.

I've never been to a hair salon where not only the guys and gals were totally fashionable, sexy, and fun, but where everyone LOVED the work that was done to them. "Thank you! I feel FABULOUS!" "See you next week!" "You're the BEST! I'll let you know if we get pregnant!" No joke - this place can make you whatever you want to be - even pregnant. I had this placed bookmarked for a loonnngggg time, and when an online deal popped up for a "Night Out" Package, I couldn't pass it up. Although making an appointment was a bit tough to get everything I needed in a one-shot visit, it was COMPLETELY worth the time and planning ahead effort! My package included make-up, lash extensions, and an evening do; totaling an estimated 1- 1 1/2 hours of services. And so my journey began with Sarah... Sarah is the most amazingly social, bubbly, honest and talented little spitfire that Alice Hair could have acquired to their team; only a few months on-board. Sarah: "Tell me what your plans are for the night and about yourself." Shouldn't all hairstylists ask this to you?! It seems so personal, and yet, so logical at the same time! She listened attentively and gave suggestions about what direction she was gonna go for me - natural, yet classic for a night out at Lincoln Center to be followed by dinner. She first started me off with my eyelashes - 1st time experience! Although I kept tearing in my left eye, Sarah was patient and we moved back and forth between eyes until she was done 15 minutes later; a record apparently in comparison to others. It's been 3 days and I've lost 3 eyelash pieces; I wash my face often to control my oil situation, so I'm assuming that's why. They still look amazingly natural and brighten up my already big doe eyes. My sister was even fooled thinking I bought some magic mascara! haha! Next, on to my hair. My hair is up to my shoulders, so Sarah made some light wavy curls to give me bounce, body, and texture; really natural and lovely! Marilyn Monroe would have been envious! Loved it! It stayed all night and she didn't go heavy on the hairspray either to accomplish that. My make-up was very seductive and innocent looking at the same time - greys and purples were applied and the lashes really were the icing on the cake! This was such a memorably fun and worth while experience and will come here again for another night out !!

After years of searching for the right hairstylist, I am happy to say Alice Hair is my new go-to salon. I've been to many salons in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn - run by a lot of different types of stylists. But most of the time I felt like I was not being listened to or that the end product was not what I envisioned. However, from the time you walk into Alice Hair, you know you've arrived in a comfortable environment where "hair dreams come true". The legend herself, Alice and her amazing team are welcoming and attentive and the salon itself is clean and super cute. Alice is a Master Colorist who is very passionate about her craft and genuinely cares about her clients and their hair needs. She is constantly taking part in various workshops and training sessions with some of the hair world's elite stylists to keep up with the trends and offer new services. Alice took one look at my hair, listened to what I was wanting to achieve and had a plan in no time. A few hours later, I felt like a new woman! I've gotten so many compliments on my new hair and just feel so confident! Can't wait to return to see what Alice has planned for me next!!

She helped me figure out how the style I wanted would work for my face and for how often I blow dry my hair. I'm a blond and finicky and nervous about highlights, I've lived in Manhattan for over a decade, and truly can say this is THE place to go. Everything is expertly and naturally done - I've come to both Mairead and Alice for highlights, cut, and blow-dry and they are incredible. The entire atmosphere of the salon is unusual because you'll here a torrent of N. Irish accent and there is a general ease. No kidding. They dance near the shampoo stations and it's lovely. Alice is absolutely one of a kind. I came to her with a complete nightmare of a color and cut. Alice immediately made me feel super comfortable and went above and beyond what I thought was possible. She is truly a color master. The salon itself is amazing. The staff is super welcoming and pleasant to talk to. Alice has all of the up to date tech and a knowledge that is incredible. If you are looking for a blonde balayage or if you need a color correction asap - cannot recommend Alice enough. I included a before and after!

Alice was amazing at color correction and gave me exactly what I needed. So sweet, so meticulous, and spent three hours making my hair look perfect! Also gave me a great haircut! Would highly recommend this salon!

I have been going to Alice for a year now and I have definitely seen a change in my hair. I came in with reddish orange hair and she was able to take care of me. It took sometime to get my hair to become healthy again but it was worth the wait! She knows what she's doing and I'm in love with my new hair. Alice is amazing and so is everyone else in the salon. You immediately feel at home when you enter the salon. I'm always happy to go over there. I definitely recommend to anyone who is in the city. Can't wait for my next appointment!
