Addo Elephant National Park

A gorgeous experience! We stayed in the rest camp tents in the main camp & loved every minute of it. We saw heaps of elephants and other wildlife, including lions! The staff are all really lovely. The only thing I would say is the tents can be a little noisy at night as you’re close to your neighbours & if it’s windy the tents rattle. I popped my ear plugs in though and was fine after that. It’s self catering so come prepared. The shop at the main camp is very expensive & the restaurant is not great besides for their steak. The guides on the safari tours are excellent & so funny / knowledgeable. We really enjoyed our stay. You also see lots of wildlife from your balcony on these tents so I would recommend them to anyone. The other accommodation is more expensive and is not overlooking the same nature directly next to a large watering hole. We saw elephants come and go all day directly from our balcony.

Wonderful self-drive experience! With a little patience and persistence we managed to see quite a lot of animals. We drove to the Southern part of the park and spent most of the day doing the loops in this section. We saw elephant, dung beetles, kudu, warthog, nyala, hartebeest, buffalo, a pair of lionesses stalking warthogs.

We visited Addo Elephant Park for our very first South Africa safari experience, and it was so fun! We opted to self-drive so we could explore at our own pace, and it was absolutely the right choice for us. We got an early start and reached the Main Entrance Gate right at 8 a.m., taking the safer, recommended route (and successfully avoiding Motherwell). There was some road work along the way, so it’s good to be prepared for possible delays. Once inside, the park, the main area is well set up with clean bathrooms, a gift shop, and the Cattle Baron Grill & Bistro. The real highlight, of course, was the wildlife. We spent the entire day driving through the park, spotting tons of elephants, zebras, kudu, buffalo, warthogs, monkeys, just to name a few. The kids were given a map that allowed them to mark off all the animals we saw. Some were incredibly close, others off in the distance, but every sighting was super cool. Being able to take our time, stop for photos, and enjoy the scenery was the best part. An amazing day and a perfect introduction to safari life. Highly recommend Addo for anyone wanting a flexible, self-driven adventure.

Really enjoyed our time at Addo Elephant National Park. Entered at the South Gate (Matyholweni) near Colchester and drove all the way through to Main Camp for our overnight stay and then back again this morning to exit at South Gate. Saw more animals further away from the southern part of the Park towards the Main Camp area though (same for coming back this morning). Did not see much on the southern side of the park.

Lots of room to tour around in your car (well kept roads suitable for most non low or lowered car, was dry may change in wet conditions) or you can go on tour in their trucks with knowledgable guides with lot of info. Main camp has a free swimming pool and a restaurant with really reasonable pricing.

Great early morning game drive , guide was knowledgeable and park offered great opportunities to see a number of animals. lovely breakfast in a safe area in the park.A day to remember

Nice campsite with modern ablutions. Beware that there is a train that passes through nearby in the middle of the night! Can recommend going to the underground hide at night. The campsite was very full and we saw many cars on our self guided game drives. It’s hard to spot game because of the bushy environment but we saw good variety of animals at the watering holes. We enjoyed driving around, camping site was nice and clean. The shops had beautiful gifts. Where we where standing was a lot of sun and we would have liked to have more shade but everything was excellent. We will definitely see the Addo again.
