I stayed 5 nights at Adelaide hostel september 2024. I regretted my choice of staying there so much. I really affected badly my stay in SF. I have been in maaaany hostel that were kind of trash but at least they were cheap and feeling safe. You pay what I feel was a fortune for shameful accomodation conditions. I felt more like in a shelter than in a hostel and I have always traveled with low standings regarding accommodation. The whole building smell bad, you want to touch the less surface because everything feels dirty. Maybe it's been cleaned during the day but it definately need to be renewed cause we don't see it anymore. Pictures used for promotion might have been taken years ago and the place didn't received great care since. I would have feel better if I had my sleeping bag with me to sleep in. You want to have sleepers to use the bathroom. Other customers where mostly people in between to situations, having difficulty finding permanent housing so not the backpacker's vibe at all. The staff was mainly staying behind their desk and providing minimum informations. As others have been saying: I don't know how they got a quite acceptable grade on booking and Google map. Having to come back to the hostel in the evening was the worst moment of my day honestly.

Adelaide Hostel SF: Great Location, Needs Improvement I used to love staying at Adelaide Hostel, mingling with cool international travelers over free breakfast. But since COVID, things have gone downhill. The lively Europeans, free ramen, and coffee/tea are gone. Cleanliness is questionable, kitchen utensils keep disappearing, and finding a decent fork or spoon is a challenge. The linens are old, and curtain dividers are falling apart. The only redeeming qualities? The fantastic location—walking distance to Union Square, Powell St. Cable Cars, and Chinatown—and affordable pricing, even in high season. If you're on a tight budget, it works, but I’d only recommend it for short stays.

Stayed at the Adelaide for 2 months and have absolutely zero complaints, brilliant location right off union square. Staff are all very friendly and helpful, especially Sarah and Graham!!

The place hires so many people part time. Part time workers means they don’t need to get benefits. All the employees here don’t have benefits. They are also rude and nasty. ||The volunteers are equally nasty . The rooms are cheap and but sometimes while you’re sleeping, the front desk will harass you and sometimes the cleaners will harass you. The cleaners don’t clean well. It’s dirty. ||There are so many crazy and weird people in the kitchen, most of them are homeless .

I’ll be biased and say that I lucked out by booking a bed in a 4 bed room where I ended up being the only person in the room. The check in was smooth and the employees were very friendly. I quite enjoyed the rustic 70’s feeling of the hostel. Made me think I was in that time period. Hostel has everything you need: clean bathrooms, showers, common areas with couches, and a kitchen. Unfortunately by the time I was downstairs for breakfast most of it was gone but that was one for coming late.||The alley leading to the hostel is a little sketch if you’re coming from a nicer area and not used to the city life to but it didn’t phase me. The room was a little hot but after opening the window it cooled down a bit. Thankfully brought my portable fan with me. For $35 I got more than I bargained for. Would recommend if you’re traveling on a budget. Definitely the best deal in the city.

An adequate, affordable place to stay. On the edge of the Tenderloin, so watch your step once you're on the main sidewalks. Very large luggage lockers. Easily fit my large suitcase and large camera backpack, probably with space for another large luggage bag! There are also outlets inside the luggage lockers. Luggage storage was easy before and after checkout. Bathrooms/showers are shared, but private. NO TOWELS PROVIDED. Bring shower shoes too, especially considering people will walk in there with shoes that have been on the... dirty... sidewalks nearby. It was hot outside while I was there, but opening the windows on either end of the room created a good breeze that kept the room cool. The social area was kind of dead compared to other hostels I've visited, but it was nice. Needs a fan though- it's not pleasant to be in the social area when it's warm and humid, as the air is still.

I stayed here for 10days. The bed was clean, didn’t smell, and no bed bugs. Easy access to public transportation and union square. If you like to walk, you can pretty much walk to other spots like ports. I’d recommend this place for travelers who want to spend less.

I had planned to stay here before i was going on a tour that left from a hotel in union square the next morning so wanted something close and simple. When i arrived I had to walk over people sleeping on the street in front. I then had to ring a doorbell to be let in and was told i was unable to check in (even though i arrived after check in time). I waited in the lounge for 2-3 hours then was allowed to check in. I was asked for a $10 cash deposit for the room key which was never stated. After i went into my room I found that the bathroom on my floor was out of order. I had a funny feeling so I had a look at the bed for bed bugs and the bed was ridden with them. The hostel also did not provide a towel. I opened the luggage space to then have a rat run over my foot. I then left the room, returned the key and said I was leaving, and explained that it was unliveable. They did end up giving me my money back , but i did have to book another hostel which came at significant expense and a lot of time wasted. I would not recommend this hostel, as it is not clean and defitnrly didn’t feel safe as a solo female traveler.
