"One of Melbourne 's first designer hotels, the Adelphi opened in a converted warehouse in the early nineties, but after an overhaul completed by new ownership in 2013, it’s as edgy as ever. The stylish lobby has swinging couches, and 34 rooms are decorated in a bold black-and-white color scheme with shocks of pink and turquoise and benefit from large windows and modern LED strip lighting. Guests in need of respite from Melbourne’s buzz (or merely hiding out from the drizzle) can bingewatch and chill: all rooms come with a 40-inch flat-screen Smart TV loaded with unlimited recently released films. Meanwhile, the dessert bar Om Nom serves high-concept sweets with components like “apple whizz fizz” and “toasted-marshmallow milk granita,” and the hotel’s breathtaking glass-bottomed pool, cantilevered nine floors above Flinders Lane, is the hottest spot in town thanks to seasonal events like last year’s pop-up gin bar."

Adelphi Hotel - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"First impressions? This small property's fashionable laneway location, boldly decorated guest rooms, and cantilevered rooftop pool help create a buzzy atmosphere that's rare among Melbourne hotels. And a dessert-themed restaurant? Genius. What’s the crowd like? Young creatives visiting from Sydney ; international travelers who want to be close to the action. How was check in? The Adelphi squeezes guest rooms into almost every square foot of its slender former warehouse premises, leaving space for only a tiny lobby. Check-in and checkout can feel a little squishy. Tell us about the rooms. There's a real energy in the rooms, which are decked out with mid-century furniture, zig-zagging black-and-cream carpets, and large warehouse windows. Street noise may disturb light sleepers, but the beds are comfy enough to compensate. How about the little things, like mini bar? Help yourself to the jars of candy and the non-alcoholic mini bar—it's all complimentary, as is the Wi-Fi. Room service and food: Worth it? Lobby restaurant Om Nom is dessert-focused (the sweet degustation is the way to go), but also offers a decent savory grazing menu. It doubles as a breakfast spot for guests, serving a tight menu of smashed avocado on toast and other Oz-centric options. Anything else stand out? That famous rooftop pool is heated, so pack your swimmers no matter what time of year you visit. Bottom line. Some of the city’s best eating spots—including Supernormal and Kisumé—are just meters from this hip boutique hotel, burnishing its allure." - Dan F. Stapleton

We had a fantastic stay last Saturday night. The hotel is in a great central location, making it easy to explore the area, and from the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. All the staff were warm, friendly, and professional, creating a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. We really appreciated the thoughtful extras a complimentary welcome drink on arrival, free mini bar, and complimentary continental breakfast. A special shout-out to Sam, who went above and beyond on a very busy Sunday morning. Despite being the only one on shift, Sam somehow managed to keep things running smoothly, look after everyone with a smile, and still serve up the best coffee of our whole trip. Absolute superstar and a real asset to the company. I highly recommend this hotel — we will definitely be back.

Had an amazing trip to Melbourne which was made even better by this beautiful hotel. Located right behind the regent theatre it was so easy to get to and right in the middle of CBD, but you would never guess it with how quiet the rooms were! The two concierge we met were amazing, friendly & so accommodating. The room was beautiful, bed was so comfy, and shower was hot & strong! Loved the complimentary mini bar, my daughter especially liked the lollies!! Can’t wait to bring my hubby back here.

Great location, comfy beds, and lovely staff. There's lots to love about this hotel including its quirky aesthetic.|Secure parking was handy to have next door and very affordable (hotel gives you a discount).|Additionally, the hotel provides WIFI, streaming options on room TV, a welcome drink on arrival, snacks and a couple of non-alcoholic drinks in the room, along with pastries & a drink for breaky, served until 11am. It doesn't get much better than that!|Some things to keep in mind:|You will need to use your phone torch in the lift to find the floor you want to go to as the lighting is moody and not at all practical.|Hotel is dated with management yet to make a decision about renovations. There is the possibility to expand service offering in cocktail bar area and on the top floor where the pool is located however this does not currently occur.|Hot tips: Try Supernormal for dinner across the road from the hotel for Asian-fusion fare and visit The Outsiders art exhibition on the same street.

Spend your money on a better hotel. We went for the pool - it felt neglected and run down. It does not match up to the current photos on the website. There were posters in the lift advertising you could order cocktails via a QR code. However, this service is no longer available. Instead we had to go down to reception ourselves and collect that promised drink on arrival. |On the stairs up to the roof top pool was a mop bucket and old champagne bucket and a Bunnings bucket catching drips. Peeling paint and parched plants abound. We tried to connect to the YouTube app in our room to play music only to be told “that hasn’t been working since last Wednesday” Complimentary minibar was a small coke and a soda water - I read minibar as alcoholic- on picking through the website it is eventually revealed when you read through individual rooms at the booking site that this is nonalcoholic- but it is not made clear at the start. |The reception area still has the non functioning bar set up - this place is operating on an old reputation that no longer reflects the reality of the standard. |Zero attention to detail zero care factor. I emailed the hotel twice to give them a chance to respond privately. I did not even get a response. |For the $750 I spent I regret every cent knowing how many other hotels offer a value for money experience at this price point.

I didnt get to use the pool as the weather changed and was pretty wet and chilly on the Sat/Sun.||Loved my room (#305) - comfortable and spacious - well appointed and great bathroom. No view from my room which was on the third floor - only a narrow lane outside. The windows had blinds and black out blinds.||It is a no frills type of boutique hotel - the design is modern, dark and well moody, with a simple minimalist approach to breakfast - fresh pastries, tea and coffee (and takeaway bags if you want). The location is perfect - only a short walk away from the Flinders Street Station and trams, as well as numerous tourist attractions such as the National Gallery. There are great eating places nearby or do as I did and get recommendations from friends and colleagues and go and explore. ||It was a little pricey for what you got.

Stayed here for a footy weekend with the boys and couldn't have picked a better spot. Perfectly located between the MCG and Marvel Stadium, we walked to both games with ease. ||Melbourne's best restaurants were right at our doorstep (with Chinatown just a short stroll away for that later-night feed) and there were no shortage of top spots for a drink (including the legendary Cherry Bar).||A few of us needed to get some work done on Friday and the hotel itself was quiet and provided decent space to set up a comfortable mobile office. The complementary breakfast coffee and cakes also went down a treat.||I also snuck in a dip in the rooftop pool. Despite being mid-May it was still a tolerable temp. I have no doubt this spot would really come into its own in summer.||Friendly and helpful staff made the whole stay easy and relaxed.||A winner on and off the park. Will definitely be booking again next season!

I had a pretty miserable time at The Adelphi in Melbourne. It’s not cheap. I paid AU$ 2,254 for five nights. (That’s US$ 272 per night, or GBP 212.)||When I checked in on a Wednesday there were several obvious problems:||(1) The toilet didn’t flush properly. (Think of 15 flushes to clear the bowl.)||(2) The toilet leaked non-stop, so every few minutes, day and night, the valve in the tank would open very noisily to top the tank up – noisily enough to wake me up.||(3) The Internet was basically non-existent. The wireless network might appear for a few minutes, and if you connected there was no Internet. And if by some freak of fate you did manage to connect to the network, there was no Internet.||I reported these problems on the Wednesday evening, followed up the next morning, and again on Thursday evening, only to be told that they didn’t have anyone to fix matters until Monday morning (the day I checked out).||The “complimentary” breakfast was a joke. Terrible croissants, cheapest packets of jam, rock hard bagels, and weird cinnamon bread. The coffee was also dreadful. The staff had apparently neither been taught how to make a decent coffee, nor knew to bring it to the table without slopping half of it into the saucer.||The thermostat in the bedroom did not work. Whatever it was set to, the room remained at 24°C.||Just a few minor points:||- The Chromecast to the TV didn’t work.||- The USB charging ports didn’t work.||- The bedding and towels were supposed to be changed every three days according to a note in the bathroom. That did not happen. (Actually, at this price point I’d expect that to happen every day.)||-The right hand sink tap leaked, flooding the sink surface whenever used.||Oh, and to add insult to injury, this was on my honeymoon.||I emailed the hotel asking for a partial refund. They just ignored me.||In short, best avoid this place. There are far better hotels in town.

I recently stayed at the Adelphi with a girlfriend on a two night mid-week getaway. It’s a nice and quirky little boutique hotel (definitely has an industrial vibe) and my final thoughts after our stay were:||PROS|*Very attentive and friendly staff- definitely a stand out! |*Fabulous location. Short walk from Flinders station and lots of great restaurants and cafes near by.|*Lovely little touches here and there, I.e welcome drink, complimentary mini bar snacks and coffee and pastries in the morning (we loved this!!!)|*Bathroom was really quite roomy and large.|*Beds were comfortable and house keeping was thorough! ||CONS|*No bar or restaurant.|*Looking a little tired and run down. Needs a bit of a facelift, paint job and TLC.|*Twin beds were very close together.|*Pillows weren’t great. |* (This one is personal preference). The bathroom was quite interesting- very surgical looking with lots of stainless steel and mirrors all the way along (heads up, you have a full length view of yourself when showering and on the toilet 🤣). ||Overall we enjoyed our stay and with a bit of a cosmetic lift and the re-addition of the bar this hotel would go from being good to great!

Yelp
The Adelphi Hotel is like the grown-up, travelers version of Willy Wonka's factory. There's candy everywhere. Bars of chocolate at reception, a glass jar full of sweets in your room (which, might I add is FREE and gets refilled everyday!), bon bon shaped pillows and liquorice allsorts stools. We were there for a conference and every day our meeting room was restocked with test tubes full of jellybeans and plates of brightly hued macaroons - seriously dangerous for someone weak willed like myself. Sweet treats aside, this hotels ticks all the boxes for me - handy central location, friendly and professional staff, sizeable rooms and heavenly pillows. The only negative for me was the lack of plugs bedside - where is one supposed to charge their phone? I only got back from Australia on Monday but I've already been singing the Aldelphi's praises to my friends. Hopefully I'll be back soon!

Yelp
Great boutique hotel in the middle of all the action. For those who don't know Melbourne, Flinders Lane has a lot of great restaurants, along with cafes that serve amazing coffee. The hotel is also close to Swanston Street, one of the main streets in CBD. My room was a decent size, and upon arrival, it was nice seeing a personalised message written on the mirror wishing me a lovely stay at the Adelphi. The best part of staying there was that all the snacks and drinks in the mini bar were FREE throughout my entire stay. And these were quality snacks and drinks. I've never seen that before in my life. It was awesome sauce. I also liked the toiletries provided. I believe the name of the brand was Apelle, and they give you a coupon code (10% off, I think) if you want to order them online. Another cool thing they did was leave a macaron next to your bed in the evening. And they were delicious macarons! The things I didn't like were that the wifi wasn't that great (it was okay, but don't expect to be able to do any streaming or heavy duty stuff.) My bed was a little bit too soft; it didn't bother me personally but for those with back problems, it might. Also, you have to walk up a flight of stairs from the street level to get to the lobby, so if you have a heavy suitcase, you're going to have to work a bit. Other than that, great location, awesome decor, and I wouldn't mind staying there again.

Yelp
Wow! Just Wow! The staff and service at the Adelphi Hotel was perhaps the best I have ever received. My Partner and I were celebrating an anniversary at the hotel and the experience was stellar. The staff had our room ready for an early check in with an extra surprise. The location was top notch and the hotel restaurant was great. We will make the Adelphi our home for our next visit to Melbourne.

Yelp
I feel pretty torn about my experience at Adelphi. The location is in the very centre of the city and the hotel itself has a great interior, excellent beds and pillows, lovely Australian botanical toiletry products, a free mini bar (replenished each day) and a baked sweet treat left by your pillow every night. What's not to like you ask? The noise, so much noise. This is the second time I've stayed here and both stays I didn't get any sleep because you can hear everything from the laneway which is on one side of the rooms. On top of the general revelry noises you would expect of an inner city location, there seems to be skip bins along the laneway that all the windows face and glass bottles are being thrown into the bins throughout the night. Double glazing the windows could fix the problem perhaps. If you sleep through anything, Adelphi should be your first pick, but if you're not a very heavy sleeper I would choose somewhere else, as you will get no sleep here.

Yelp
The perfect location for a quick break away. The spacious rooms are decorated with modern art and interesting furniture, with comfortable bedding. Free Wi-Fi up to 1GB/day is a real treat, as is the breakfast menu which ranges from muesli to fry ups to protein shakes. Service is friendly and efficient, but most of all welcoming. A rooftop heated lap pool and Turkish sauna really add a special touch too. Oh, and the Morrissey toiletries don't hurt.

Noora B.

Yelp
Incredibly kind staff! This hotel has a wonderful location. Jacki at the front desk is so helpful and really helped us during our entire stay. Loved the free snacks in the room too!

Yelp
A beautiful dessert themed boutique hotel where the staff made an effort to know my name and the room is full of sweets. Free internet and movies make this place feel like a guest house rather than a hotel. The location is fantastic for theatre and concerts. We walked to Rod Laver arena and Bourke street mall. Plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose form but check out Om nom the hotels own eatery.

Yelp
Really nice boutique hotel. Was pleasantly surprised several times during my stay with things like free internet and snacks in the room (unheard of in most hotels). And not cheap snacks, we're talking fancy stuff you won't find in the supermarket. A free beer at the bar was nice too, and they make good cocktails. The staff were very helpful and attentive, and the rooms were newly decorated, clean and quite plush to boot. Can't fault anything about this place.

Angela T.

Yelp
Loved it here. The lobby is nicely decorated, free candy at the reception desk. The room decor is slightly eclectic and yet minimalist. Free snacks and drinks in the minibar which we loved and took advantage of. They also gave us complimentary welcome drinks which you could have in their lobby bar or in your room. Free movies on the TV. We never wanted to leave our room! Highly recommended and if we ever come back to Melbourne, we would stay here again!

Yelp
We loved this hotel. Stylish, fun, convenient. It was our first trip to Australia, and Adelphi's so close to everything. The stadium for Australian Open is 5 minutes by free shuttle. The laneways for restaurants and coffee are two blocks down, as are a lot of other stores and places. The park is not far. Our room was a great size, high ceilings, very comfortable bed and homemade macaroons at night. Being a boutique, the hotel is not gigantic--only 9 floors. However the amenities they have are ones you'll use most: free wifi, free mini bar (!!), great showers & fancy soaps, coffee & tea in the room, efficient reception. The staff was WONDERFUL, so friendly and helpful. On my first morning in the city, while I was waiting for a tour bus, I asked if I could have just a slice of bread--my stomach was queasy from jet lag and no dinner from the night before. They brought me brioche toast with jam on the house--so nice! The lift was broken the when we were there and we had to use the back one though the small kitchen. Not at big deal whatsoever, since a) it was fun to go by the kitchen and see the chefs creating their fusion desserts and b) having our room right next to the lift bank probably gave us extra quiet. Would come here again, as well as look into their chain, and I would recommend Adelphi to anyone visiting.

John M.

Yelp
The location is great, you can't deny that. But there are issues. Lots of them, which I will list. If none of them trouble you, then by all means stay here. Firstly, if you arrive with a hefty suitcase, you will have to lug it up a flight of stairs to get it into the hotel lobby. There is no other way. And there's no doorman to help you up with it, either. If one of the harried front-desk staff has the time, they may help. Or they may not. It's a bit like that here. The rooms themselves look quite nice in the photos, but they are tired. As is the hotel as a whole. Carpet is dirty in patches and needs replacing. Rooms need painting. Fit outs are cheap, and to the naked eye, it shows. If you see photos online of the rooftop pool surrounded by deckchairs, and imagine warm afternoons relaxing by the pool, think again. It's now a bar area, with high tables and stools, and two deckchairs at the back. Nowhere really to get yourself some sun. If you have laundry to do, and wish to use their service, front desk may well ask you to take the bag of dirty laundry down to reception yourself, because they have no-one to pick it up for you. None of the staff are rude or trying to be unhelpful, it's just that things don't work very well here. To be honest, you could rent an airbnb close by and not miss out on anything. At the Adephi, you get a somewhat tired room in a great location, and that's about it.
