Yelp
Stayed here recently for a work trip and as someone that is from the U.S, it was an overall great experience. I am leaving a review to help any fellow U.S travelers.
-Apartment style hotel, I chose a corner unit which had a separate bedroom, living area with kitchenette. For longer stays, having a bedroom you can close helps make the suite feel less like a cramped hotel room and being able to close the door helps to reduce outside noise.
-The corner unit was quiet in terms of hearing any people in the hallways or stairs but hearing people from outside the hotel was a different story
-Small washer and dryer in the bathroom was handy. Just use youtube to figure out how to start it since it's all in German. The dryer takes forever so don't overload.
-The kitchenette had a refrigerator, 2 burner cook top, dishwasher, water kettle, toaster, capsule coffee maker, and microwave/oven.
-The microwave is a Bosch so it took me some figuring out how to get it started. Again, google it to figure out how to just use the microwave function. It has to warm up to the setting in order to start heating food up. The stovetop is good enough to cook plain meals but there are limited pans (only 2). Limited utensils but enough to prep small meals
-The capsule machine is a German brand so the normal Nespresso original line pods are slightly smaller than the Leysieffer Kaffee capsules. Meaning, they fall right thorough the pod receptacle but with some creativity, you can get them to work. I do wish they sold the capsules that this machine required at the hotel or the local groceries. I require a lot of coffee in the mornings.
-Lots of windows which made for a great view of the city and Main from different angles but in the summer, the suite got really hot if curtains were open in the heat of the day.
-The "AC" is barely a warm breeze. It is not what Americans are used to from air conditioning where a condenser engages so adjust your expectations. Prepare for a warm room if you are here in the summer. You can open the windows but then a few flies would get in even on the top floor. Again, this is the EU so adjust AC cooling expectations
-It seemed like everyone smoked! Opening windows might let in the smell of smoke from someone on their balcony
-You can hear people yelling and partying especially the weekend nights sometimes pretty late into the night but it's to be expected. This area is full of tourists, EU bankers, cars, motorcycles, police sirens, commuters, think New York City or San Francisco, not a quiet suburb.
-Entire suite is carpet or soft surfaces except little kitchenette so there tends to be a lot of lint and dust. Not a bad idea to bring travel humidifier if you are sensitive
-The location is great. Just 5 minutes walk away from the U-Bahn (underground, subway) Willy-Brandtz-Platz stop. A fare ticket is good for the U-Bahn or S which is like their buses.
-15-17 minute walk from My Zeil mall area
-Opera house 5 minute walk away
-the Main (river) is just a 6 minute walk and it's a great spot to jog along the waterfront with multiple bridge access to cross sides
-Uber picks up from this location quickly. The hotel will also order a taxi for you if needed
-10 minute walk to the Eiserner (Iron) Bridge, village of Romerburg and tons of restaurants of all different cuisines
-The Rewe grocery store is a small hike if you have bags of groceries, but grocery order was super easy and convenient with the Flink app
-Many museums within 15 minute walk including MMK, Stadel, Schirn
-Bathroom was a decent size for Europe. Water pressure and temperature in shower was great. Only weird thing was the tub was set pretty high up so it is a bit steep to step out of which could be a problem for some
-TVS, you won't be able to set up your Fire stick or device to it as the HDMI cable is different than US ones plus many streaming providers won't allow streaming outside the U.S. But they have channels in German, Arabic, French, and limited English (CNN and some British channels)
-Hotel Staff were professional, spoke English fluently, and were super helpful. If you arrive early or have to check out, they will check your luggage. They answered any questions via email quickly as I was preparing for my trip which was reassuring
-Free WIFI
-elevator required hotel room key to get to your floor so deliveries would have to go to front desk or meet you in the lobby
-Small, basic gym and pool.
-Depending on traffic, uber ride to the airport is 25-45 minutes
Overall, a nice apartment style hotel in a great location near the U-Bahn, many banks, museums and hotel staff were professional and pleasant. I liked being able to eat meals in and access to washer/dryer in the unit. It's not a luxury resort style hotel with spa and concierge and I would have loved more modern TV options and a cold air conditioner, but the location worked great, and proximity to Ubahn , I would stay here again.
