Adirondak Loj & Heart Lake Program Center

My in-laws had a wish to hike Marcy, but felt impaired to attempt such a challenge when they have to sleep with breathing machines, are in their 70's and live over 4 hours away. They had my husband and I to help them with the hiking, but The Loj offered the needed accommodations, rest and refreshment for them to embark on this adventure. The showers, bedding, cozy quarters and super friendly & helpful staff all made this possible. Thank you! A dream has come true!

I love the LOJ. It is set up to encourage community and interaction between guests. There’s a family style dinner available where you get to talk with strangers and sit around the fire sharing stories. It feels like home. The loft is an interesting experience that not all would enjoy because there are I think 12 beds with people on all different schedules but it’s part of the adventure. For non loft loving folks, there are private rooms to give you a little more quiet but are a little more costly. The staff is always great and very helpful whenever you need anything and there is always coffee and hot chocolate to sip while sitting around the fire.

I love to camp at the Heart Lake/ADK "wilderness campground" which provides a quiet experience, ready access to many hiking trails, and great birding. Also, a bonus, is ready access to hot showers, nice to have after a long day on the trail.

Service in the Loj is excellent. However the service during the reservation process was disorganized. There were mistakes to correct both with our room reservations and dining reservations, even after we confirmed with them twice. However, they were agreeable about correcting the errors, repeatedly. The food quality has improved significantly since our visit in 2017. The host was very friendly and helpful and answered our friends many questions about the logistics of operating a lodge facility, kitchen, and deck screw questions.

I stayed at the Loj for the first time since 1989 when I took a winter mountaineering course with the ADK. It just as amazing as I remembered it. Hardly anything had changed - the wake-up bell, receiving the weather report from the cook at breakfast, the communal dining, the fact that there's a fireplace and a piano, the great library, the handmade bunks and log framing, much as it was when it was built in 1927. Also, the proximity to some of the best ski and hiking trails in the Northeast and the reasonable prices. This place is a treasure!

The rooms have good beds with cozy furniture. The food is great with amazing service. The location is amazing, and there is always a sunset at Heart Lake. I highly recommend climbing Marcy. Bring extra water.

Adirondak Loj is an excellent departure point for many trails but equally excellent place to meet others passionate about adventure and nature, physically active and knowledgeable about the world. Good food and fellowship at the common dinner and breakfast table and hot drinks around the fireplace.

I love the LOJ. It encourages you to leave your room and interact with other people who have a similar interest. It’s cozy, there is always coffee and hot chocolate to sit and relax around the fire and swap life stories with strangers and friends. I love it.
