This is NOT a family place AT ALL.
We stopped here for the night on our way out of the area, after staying in a beautiful cabin up in the mountains. We weren't originally planning on staying an additional night but made some plans after checking out of our cabin and ended up needing a place for the night before leaving town.
We have 4 kids, ages 16-5, we are on a budget. We just jumped on a hotel discount app and booked adobe inn. Reviews seemed fine and it was a good deal so we took our chances.
Upon arrival, it was evident the place was very old and out of date: popcorn ceiling, orange carpet, faded, pilling and tearing bedspreads, very saggy beds--all of which we could have been okay with for one night.
We are from AZ, and legal marijuana is not a thing there--nor did we expect that it would be an issue at a hotel, but I guess that just shows our ignorance. We soon became aware of intense odors in one of our rooms. We called the front desk guy, thinking there was something wrong with the a/c or evaporative cooler. The guy didn't notice a problem. We called him up a little later, as the smell was intense. (It smelled like skunk odor--which I mentioned to the guy). At this point, he noticed the smell right away and immediately went to the trash can right outside the door, to show me what was the remains of a marijuana cigarette.
"Sorry," he says. "We don't normally like the guests to smoke right outside the doors." [hmmm, interesting. Tell me about these ash trays you've got lining the walkways...] "The second hand smoke gets sucked right into your room through the a/c unit."
Great.
I removed my kids from the room to our second room (several doors down) and we did our best to air out the smell.
But no dice. The same odor started being piped into our second room (where my four kids and I are trying to take refuge). At that point, we said enough is enough. We quickly loaded our belongings at 10:30pm (along with our sleeping 5 year old) into the car, got a refund and left for the nearest hotel (which happened to be in New Mexico, as everything else in Durango was booked for the 4th of July).
The front desk guy tried to tell us (when we went to ask for a refund) that it was an actual skunk. Imagine that! So--it's not the guy right beneath us smoking weed in the chair right outside his door? Nor is it the crowd of people around the corner smoking weed? Wow--that's amazing!
He did finally agree to give our money back--thank goodness.
The clear draw to this place is the freedom to smoke weed right outside the door of your room. They have ash trays outside every other door and trash cans as well. There is no oreason a person would want to stay here, as it is dingy and old.
So--if smoking weed is your thing, and breathing in second hand smoke (having it piped right into your sleeping quarters, no less) then this is the place for you!
But for everyone else: STEER CLEAR!!
UPDATE: we never received our promised refund. I called and spoke to the manager this morning (who denied any knowledge of our situation--all of our previous communications had been with the front desk guy). She was extremely uncooperative and abrasive and had no interest in our situation. I was flatly told that she would issue no refund. I explained that we would dispute the charge with our credit card company and her response was: you do whatever you feel you need to do. We attempted to dispute through Priceline and again, the manager was completely uncooperative. We are now attempting to dispute through our credit card company. This has been a complete nightmare!! STAY AWAY!!!!
