Yelp
My wife, and I, have stayed at the Adobe many times, both before, and after, the pandemic. It has always been a bit of an iffy proposition, but the convenient location and beautiful views make one overlook some of the problems there. Our recent stay was a completely unsatisfactory experience, and we will never, never, be staying there again.
1) The Experience
It starts before we even arrived at the property. They request remote check in ahead of arrival. Seemingly, this check in is to monetize the experience as the guest is offered various, optional, additional services at additional cost. I'm fine with that.
I checked us in on 10/11/24, and one of the services offered was a romance package. I would love to do something nice for my wife and, depending on exactly what that included it seemed a great thing to do to show my appreciation for her. The package is not explained, but there is a box there at check in to chat with the Adobe and garner additional information. So far, so good.
I asked what the romance package entailed and a very nice, personal, response came back within the hour explaining it was roses, a couple of chocolates and a bottle of champagne. I immediately wrote back inquiring what brand of champagne was offered.
By the next day, Saturday, I had not received a response to my inquiry, so I sent another message around noon. Thanking them again for the response and asking if they had received my inquiry about the brand of champagne. No answer.
We checked in on Monday 10/11 and since I still had not had a response to my inquiry, there were no roses, no chocolates, no champagne, nothing. A total waste of time. At check in I asked to speak to the General Manager and he was not in. I asked what time he would be at the property the following day and was told that he would not be there that day either. OK then.
That evening we decided to eat at the restaurant, we sat in the lounge, which has the better views. My wife ordered the halibut, the server told her they were out. She ordered the crab cakes, again out. Salmon, again out. Finally, she ordered the clams in with tomatoes and basil.
When the clams came, they had no tomatoes and no basil. So, respectfully, we called over our server and asked what had happened. She said she did not cook the food. We get that. She went back to the kitchen and told us that the basil and tomatoes were "dust". I assume she meant powdered, but I have not heard of powdered tomatoes and sun dried tomatoes have a very distinctive taste. There were none in there, fresh or otherwise.
At this point a senior staff member came over, very apologetic. She had recognized us from the previous meals that we had eaten at the restaurant. We calmly explained the situation and she said that the kitchen just cooks what it wants to cook. OK then, no dinnner for us.
Interestingly, I had downloaded the menu from the Adobe's home page an hour earlier and the prices in the restaurant were up to 33% more expensive than on the downloaded menu. Specific examples, the wagu burger was $15 on the downloaded menu, $20 in the restaurant. The halibut $38 on the downloaded menu, $44 in the restaurant. At least they did not run out of bait and switch.
I could go on and on, this is the tip of the iceberg, but there is another short chapter.
2) The property.
As other's have said, the rooms are an odd mix of the DIY new and the horribly old. In our room, 311. the bathroom was nicely redone except, on the inside, the door was all blistered at the bottom, under the paint. And the bottom of the toilet seat was horribly discolored. There were two off white chairs by a table in the room and these were terribly stained. Really a mess.
When we checked in, there was a pill on the carpet in the main hallway leading to our room, about 15 feet from the elevator alcove. It was still there when we checked out two and a half days later.
I need to stop somewhere and it might as well be here. This is a property completely devoid of passion, care or even common sense. I am glad to be done with it. And yes, I have photos, screen grabs and downloads to document all of this.
