Went for the green sauce and the apple wine. Both were worth trying. Shared the schnitzel and a salad. The portion were large and filling. High quality ingredients and prepared perfectly. The green sauce is good but glad it is served on the side. The restaurant is huge. Probably should have reservations. We didn’t but still got seating right away on the patio. Definitely worth a try if you’re in Frankfurt.

Run Run Run!!! Extremely disappointing experience at Adolf Wagner — and I rarely leave negative reviews. I came here expecting traditional German food and local atmosphere, but left completely frustrated. The chop steak and pork knuckle were absolutely inedible. Both were over-salted to an unbearable degree, especially the pork knuckle — it tasted like pure brine. The food quality was shockingly poor and lacked any real flavor. Even worse was the rude and pushy service. The staff forced customers to sit together at shared tables, even though there were plenty of empty seats. There was zero regard for guest comfort or personal space. To top it off, when paying, I was pressured into leaving a tip, despite the horrible experience. Tipping is voluntary, and frankly, the service did not deserve a cent. Adolf Wagner may be famous among tourists, but it’s nothing more than a salty trap with bad food and worse hospitality. There are many better, more respectful places to experience Frankfurt cuisine. Avoid this restaurant at all costs.

Very authentic German fare. Enjoyed the grilled pork rib very much. The ambiance is also cool, especially the outdoor seating.

Google
My German friend from Frankfurt took us to this restaurant while we had a layover from Frankfurt Airport, and we were not disappointed at all. The highlight beside the delicious food was the apfelwein, which I hadn't tried before when I lived in Germany 2x. It was delicious and I had a few glasses of it, which I wish I had tried sooner in my life. We sat outside in some beautiful weather and the service was quick, and efficient. We had ordered the Jägerschnitzel and Frankfurter schnitzel. Hot, fresh, and delicious. We really enjoyed that. Inside was well decorated, spacious, and clean. We had no complaints during our visit and would come here again when we are in Frankfurt next.

Google
Food was good, we had schnitzel and beef sausage. Sausage was OK. Should probably try the pork knuckle. The restaurant has people coming all the time and its never quite. Seems like the apple wine is a must have here.

Google
Terrible service and disappointing experience I have never felt more disrespected and discriminated against than during my most recent visit. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time I experienced mistreatment at this establishment, but this visit was by far the worst. Upon arrival, I politely asked in German whether we could sit outside or in the summer garden. I was immediately dismissed and told to go elsewhere. Once outside, we were rudely pointed to a table and told we could only sit inside. When we attempted to sit down, we were told we couldn’t stay there and were directed to a dirty table that already had people sitting at it. As I started reading the menu, a waiter abruptly threw two English menus on top of it without a word and walked away. While I was explaining the dishes to my friend, the server returned and very rudely asked what we wanted to drink. I ordered an Apfelwein in German, and my friend, who is French, asked for tap water. The server laughed at her request and left without a response. We eventually decided to leave, and as we did, the waiter continued laughing with his colleagues and staring at us. This kind of behavior is completely unacceptable, and I hope others think twice before visiting.

Google
Perfect authentic German place where we experienced German food culture and eatery. No beer, only applewine which was a fun change. The food was fun and tasty, also good for the price. The sausages were brilliant with the sauerkraut. Perfect place for a group of people looking for German fun.

Google
Food was very nice but the apple wine doesn’t suit my taste. It probably taste more like beer. I love their potatoes, a little peppery taste. It was so good! Service wise, not all staff were nice and friendly. One of the staff really recommeded us the nice food, he was friendly and also stop us for ordering so much because we were all literally over ordering!🤣

Yelp
When you are at Apfelwein Wagner, you really feel like you are in Germany. This is a classic spot for the famous apple wine and authentic German food. I ordered a homemade bratwurst with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes (12.90 EUR). For the price, the portion size was pretty large. It was a sizeable and good quality bratwurst. The mashed potatoes were just standard and I wasn't a huge fan of the sauerkraut though (just my personal preference). I also tried a non alcoholic apple wine (2.90 EUR), which was quite good - not just like apple juice, but with a sort of wine flavor even though it was a non-alcoholic version. Note that this restaurant gets super busy during peak times. I was lucky to get a spot without a wait because I went a bit on the early side but before long, the place was totally packed. Everyone had to share the large tables to fit. But that actually just added to the vibes and there was a buzzing atmosphere in there. The restaurant has a historic feel with all the plain wooden tables and German artwork / decor on the walls. It's a family run restaurant and you can tell the staff really care about the place - even though they are busy, the staff are still friendly and move quickly. Overall, Apfelwein Wagner is a really great place for an authentic German food (and apple wine) experience. The food might not blow you away, but the vibes are great if you don't mind a busy environment.

Yelp
Wow this place was one of the best on our entire trip to German. I still think about how good the food was. This place was packed. We had thankfully made a reservation and were sat right away. We had a booth and the restaurant was very much like an indoor beer garden vibe. We had to order the apfelwein. We got a pitcher to share and it was more than enough. When drinking it you add a little bit of sparkling water to it. I ordered the chopped steak with onions and potatoes. I dream about how good those potatoes and diced onions were. I'd have that meal 100 times if I could. We finished the meal with an apple strudel and it couldn't be better. I would highly recommend this to people visiting.

Yelp
Amazing German ambience. Friendly and timely service. Tasty food. I ordered apple wine that comes in beautiful glasses. Homemade Bratwurst, and an extra side of green sauce. There is a myth that green sauce was Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's favourite dish, invented by his mother I enjoyed my visit.

Yelp
Authentic Frankfurt/ German food. The green sauce is made with creme fresh My German friend said she knew this restaurant was good as soon as she walked in because of the decor and it seemed like a family business that has been open for a long time Service is friendly and we got an English menu. The food came out really quickly I ordered the Green sauce with hard boiled eggs and boiled potatoes. The green sauce was made with fresh herbs and was really good. The plain potatoes and boiled eggs were surprisingly very delicious with the green sauce and I felt like it didn't need extra seasoning for me. I tried a bit of my friend's croquets which were delicious. I also tried some of her schnitzel, with us a bread and fried meat of your choice. We sat inside with a bar feel and they can accommodate a huge group. They were serving a group of 12 and all their food came out at the same time. There's also a nice outdoor space. In the summertime, there's light until 9pm so the outside was nice weather and nice light

Yelp
Four stars as the ambiance was nice and schnitzel was good (Frankfurt schnitzel). I would give it 3 stars for service. I think they're just understaffed and probably overworked, but we went inside to let the server know we wanted a table and he said okay for two? we said yes. He responded with "okay? Pick a table wherever you want" so we asked can we sit outside? (There's tables outside by the street - we just didn't see a server nearby those tables so that's why we walked all the way inside) and the server said "outside? May I ask why?" Lol I've never received a question like that so my husband and I were both surprised to which I responded "because it's nicer?" And he laughed okay outside. It was just a weird question. They might just be overworked idk. Either way the food was alright and the apple wine was just okay.

Yelp
My friends and I ventured into Frankfurt for a half day to check the city out (we were staying in Mainz). We were told to go to Sachsenhausen to try some apfelwein, and so we stumbled upon this bar while it started to rain. While the man at the bar/cashier was a bit grumpy looking, the waitresses were very friendly and sat the group of us 8 in the glass covered area "outside." The bench seemed a bit precariously weighted down as there were so many of us sitting on it, but it held up and we all had a joyous time. We ordered a pitcher of the apfelwein and it was delicious! Some of us added sparkling water for additional bubbles. We also ordered some seasonal/traditional German foods, like the white asparagus (spargelzeit) and pork knuckle. We're all Americans and used to large portions, but we were all amazed at how big the portions were here! If you asked my group of friends what dish they would think most fondly of from our trip in Germany, many of us would say the white asparagus salad or pork knuckle! If you're in Frankfurt and want to try some delicious German food, come here!

Yelp
Just fantastic! The food, drink, atmosphere, and people are amazing. They make you feel like welcomed and are straight to the point with their service. Do yourself a favor and stop when you visit Frankfurt.

Yelp
This used to be the place to go for Apfelwein and traditional food. The Apfelwein is still ok, but the food is Not. Both the Schweinshaxe and Leiterschen were extremely dry, and staff and chef don't care. You can walk through and sit outside.

Yelp
Huge restaurant. Fast service. Good food. Ambiance wasn't great. Apple wine really average.

Yelp
First time trying German food, and was so glad we came here because it was an absolutely fantastic introduction to the cuisine. Was able to come and get seated without any reservation and almost right away which was quite nice. The waiter was also absolutely fantastic as he was very jokey with the customers and was extremely friendly. Apfelwein Wagner markets itself as a gastropub but I would argue that it is more like a restaurant than a pub as the place is quite clean and has a lot of personalities. - Wagner's green sauce (seven different herbs) with hard-boiled eggs and home fried potatoes - At first this dish looks a little scary because you don't exactly know what the "green sauce" is, but it turned out to be legitimately the most delicious thing I've had on this trip. The sauce is essentially herbs and yogurt which was fantastic as it was quite light but still flavorful. Contrasted well with perhaps the best home fried potatoes I've ever had which had a lot of different seasoning on it. Went well with the hard-boiled egg which in contrast, had no flavor on it. - Crispy Pork Knuckle and Home Fried Potatoes - This is another traditional German food that Apfelwein is known for and when it first came, I thought the restaurant was joking because the pork knuckle was humongous! Side note: Something that has been really surprising to me about Germany is how big their portion sizes are. Honestly, might be even bigger than in the US. Regardless, the crispy pork skin was delicious with the layer of fat even though it congealed pretty quickly and the meat itself was very tender. The potatoes were fantastic as usual. I could really only finish 1/3 of this plate, definitely, two people could comfortably share this dish and feel full. - Apfelwein - The most surprising part of the whole meal was that they gave us apefelwein (apple beer) for free. It was quite good, not really bitter like normal beer. Doesn't have a whole ton of apple flavor though. Overall, fantastic experience at Apfelwein Wagner. Definitely would recommend trying this place out as I think this is a great introduction to German cuisine.

Yelp
Super delicious food. They don't serve beer but they do serve apple wine (Similar to cider). Food was good. Service was helpful.

Yelp
I am updating a previous review. This time during COVID. At each table there's a QR code to scan to sign in for contact tracing and an online menu, the tables are spaces appropriately, the staff seems to be taking all precaution, and they are doing it all with a smile. The service was great and the food was delicious as always. It is worth the visit from out of town, and we took home two bottles of Apfelwein for only €5! Fantastic!!!

Yelp
I loved this place. The atmosphere was boisterous and inviting and the staff was incredibly friendly. The traditional food was rich and tasty, served in huge portions. Definitely get the handkäse mit musik and some "ebbelwoi."

Yelp
Waited over an hour and a half for food plates came out one at a time. The lady in charge was very rude.

Yelp
Popular amongst tourists, Adolf Wagner - or Apfelwein Wagner as many know it - came highly recommended by trusted sources as a place for quality Hessen Fare, and at lunch on Monday the typically raucous space was thankfully calm with most guests either businessmen or the elderly. Located in Sachsenhausen district, an area just south of the Main River, it is through a large Beer garden that guests navigate to the Restaurant itself, the presence of bilingual servers as well as menus most fortunate and a layout across two rooms offering plenty of space at one of several communal tables. Producing Apple Wine through an entirely organic process since 1931, and even offering the bottled Beverage via online website, it was with a 2€ glass in hand that choices were perused and appetite gauged, large portions and low prices no doubt an aspect of Wagner's appeal. Playing traditional music overhead, the heavily wooded space interestingly wrapped around a large tree growing at the center, it was with decisions made that a heavily tattooed server soon brought a bowl of Green Sauce, the sourness and Herbs more pronounced that what was served at Zum Eichkatzerl and the Apfelwein also better thanks to more crispness plus developed vinegary notes. Waiting perhaps fifteen minutes for Food, a pair of older Women fluent in English making conversation that unfortunately turned to American Politics, it was with good timing that two plates arrived simultaneously, the "Frankfurt Style" Pork Schnitzel more thickly breaded than some, perhaps to stand up to the Green Sauce, while Fried Potatoes were buttery, soft and liberally salted. Moving next to Bratwurst, both the half-meter Sausage and accompanying Sauerkraut made on-site, suffice it to say that both on their own were enjoyable while the combination was fantastic, an adjective equally applicable to Cinnamon Apples nestled between Pastry Leafs alongside Whipped Cream, Vanilla Ice Cream and Crème Anglaise.

Yelp
This is the second time I've eaten here. The first time was a few years ago during a work trip. This most recent experience again with a work trip with my two co-worker who have been trying to eat here. The second visit was as good as I remember. The restaurant is a popular destination for out of town era, seems like a lot of tourists, we hear from a lot of people that mention the need to check it out. I love the food here, everything that was ordered was amazing. I would say they had the best quality schnitzel I've had vs. a lot of other good restaurants. This is a destination that I have to go to on all my trips to Frankfurt.

Yelp
A very historic, old-school restaurant opened since 1931. There are a lot of seats but it seemed like most tables were held under reservation. One dining room had four big tables reserved, but those tables remained unoccupied for the 1.5 hours that we were there. It also didn't help that patrons just seat themselves. We had to wander around and seek empty seats since all tables are communal. For appetizer, we had the handkas doppio which is homemade cheese with onions that you spread on bread. It is a very typical German dish to try and it wasn't particularly to my liking. It was very oily and I'm typically not a big fan of onions. To get our meal started, we also ordered a jug of apple wine, another typical German delicacy. Note, the apple wine is served with a bottle of water. You are supposed to fill half of your glass with apple wine and then mix in the water. The drink is similar to hard cider but it's less sweet and it has a sparkling texture. For my entree, I had the Frankfurt specialty, pork shank with rosemary potatoes. It is a huge portion that can easily be shared by two. Finishing it by myself required a strong effort and willpower that I did not have. The pork skin was roasted to a crisp texture and there was some slight fat under the skin. But the meat was a slight disappointment. The parts with fat were tender but otherwise, most of the shank was too lean and dry.

Yelp
My bf and I visited Apfelwein Wagner because we wanted to eat traditional authentic German food, and of course, try their apple wine. There was a mix of locals and tourists here, so that was a good sign! We left with our tummies satisfied--everything was pretty good. We came here around lunch time and were seated in the back, which was an outdoor seating area with large picnic tables. Apple wine: It's the official drink of Frankfurt. Locals say apple wine is a tradition and they are proud of it. DO NOT come here if you're craving a variety of beers. They only serve apple wine and other wines/champagnes. To our surprise, we liked the apple wine. It's definitely an acquired taste. I ordered the non-alcoholic one and my bf tried the regular. The nonalcoholic one tasted like apple juice, just not as sweet, and was surprisingly more expensive than the regular one. You can taste the crisp acidity in both apple wines. Food: We were impressed with the food portions. They were huge and I barely finished mine. I ordered the homemade bratwurst w/ sauerkraut and potato puree. My bf ordered schnitzel w/ their green sauce. Overall, food was okay, very filling but nothing was "standout" delicious-to-die-for. Tasty nonethless and worth the price. Service: It was hard flagging them down, but service was okay. They were busy serving so many customers, even at lunch, I can't imagine what it must be like on weekend/nights. I'd recommend giving this place a try if you haven't, do it for at least the apple wine.

Gabrielle A.

Yelp
After getting recommendations for coming here I would not come back. The staff was incredibly rude. They gave us no instructions on where to sit. They told us to go to the garden, no one sat us down so we picked our own table. We were told twice that those tables were reserved and to sit somewhere else without telling us where to go. Our waitress was nice to us but extremely rude to the people next to us and even sighed and rolled her eyes because of the communication barrier. My fiancé ordered the veal schnitzel and I ordered the frankfurter schnitzel. They didn't communicate which dish what which when they brought it out and when asked they didn't even look at the food to confirm for us. The food was subpar. They take advantage of "tourists" by overcharging and encouraging a tip when it isn't customary to do so, forcing us to tip on a meal we didn't even enjoy. Would avoid this place, I'm sure there are much more authentic spots to try
google avatar

Andre L.

Yelp
No words can describe how bad the customer service is for this place. You try and stop a waiter to order and they'll tell you to wait. They have the audacity to say "sorry" while you've been waiting there seated for 15 minutes. Embarrassing. For such a place with high local standing I didn't expect such behaviour from not just one server, but four!

Yelp
We were cooped up at the airport hotels due to all our business meetings happening near the hotel. However, one of my colleagues is from Germany so we asked him to set us up at a very casual place to dine and experience good local food. Apfelwein Wagner or Cider Wagner is pretty much a winebar like place with plenty of bench seating. The number one thing here is the Apple Wine and we ordered a jug of this along with sparkling water. My German colleague recommended that we put a bit of water in it. Very refreshing and very easy to drink. I can imagine in Summer this is a very nice drink and nearly as good as just sipping down some great watered down draft beer like PBR when you are in a US bar. The seating is crowded and in the restaurant it is noisy. We were "outside" but it was covered and in nice weather, they retract all the awnings and covers so you are truly outside. Fun, casual, plenty of food options. I took pictures of the english menu so you can see. Of course, I ordered the Pork Knuckle, and here it was the right size and very delicious! Tender and moist. The skin was just crispy and not overly tough as in some of the beer halls in Germany. My colleagues ordered a pork dish called Frankfurter Schnitzel with a special "green sauce" that is made from herbs in the region. Tasty. Another colleague ordered the Cabbage Roll with Mashed Potatoes and Cider Sauce. We were not quite sure of the meat, but believe it was pork. Definitely a Frankfurt speciality! The place was getting quite packed and our picnic table was getting filled with another party, locals out to eat with their huge and love sheep dog. I thought it was great that you can bring your dog here and what a fun dog it was . If you are in the area, check it out!

Yelp
Horrible restaurant I've ever been in my entire life. Waiter give terrible attitude to their customers, and cursing customer as well with F work in German, bc they thought we couldn't understand. German waiter racist to Asian and Black and also being very rude, especially Chinese. definitely wouldn't recommend for tourists. Don't argue with the waiter, because he will spit in you meal that you ordered. BTW,they force you to pay the tips which is 20%.

Yelp
Came here with a dude I met on the walking tour on a weekday. We sat ourselves down at a communal table. We ordered the green sauce with brisket (which is supposedly a Frankfurt local dish), and a pork knuckle. Both were fairly good, but nothing to write home about. I would say, it's slightly better than other ones I have, but it's unimpressive in terms of refinement. I also got two apple wines (tour guide recommended that it tastes better on the second and third tries), the first was just tasted like a blend of apple vinegar and hard cider. The second glass was more delicious, maybe it's the food maybe I got used to the sourness.

Yelp
Great food. Bad service. Decent prices. Visited the restaurant on my birthday and wanted to give it 5 stars for the food, but could not look past the mediocre (and that's being generous) service. Server took a long time to take our initial order and then made us feel rushed thereafter; didn't show any desire to assist in our ordering process, and was generally curt (while some may say that's a German thing, but I disagree). The restaurant has 2 outdoor section - garden in the back and curbside patio in the front of the house - and is very charming. We ordered apple wine (which was enjoyable enough but definitely an acquired taste if one is to love it), pork schnitzel with green sauce and home fried potatoes (their specialty) which was the best schnitzel I've ever had, and hand made klass (cheese with onions, vinegar, and paprika), which I didn't have a taste for. Cannot give enough praise for the green sauce. Overall an average experience which could have been way better if not for feeling rushed. It took us an hour to get here and it was going to be the only meal we were having in Frankfurt, so wanted to love it. Also, I did have to find and fetch a high chair for my daughter myself, since the wait staff wasn't willing to do it. They just pointed me in the direction of the chair.

Yelp
Great food. And very good waitress. We were seat in a share table with very sweet local purpler that recommend what to eat. Franfurt specialities are the best

Yelp
Great Bavarian food! The Apple Wine was good too! The Kraut was awesome. The service was good. The place was in a good setting and great neighborhood.

Yelp
This is quite a busy spot evidenced by the amount of people there. A very typical German restaurant in a tourist area. However, please pay attention when ordering and paying. Make sure that when you order that they take the correct order. Also when paying check that the bill shows the correct amount! The food was lovely but because we were all speaking English it felt like we got the tourist treatment. The order was mistakenly taken even though we were quite clear. Also the price on the bill was not the price listed in the menu which was shocking as I would not have expected that.So "Buyer Beware"!

Yelp
Probably one of the rudest waiters and worst dining I've ever experienced in my life. The stage was set when we walked in and two waiters (one of which ended up being ours) were in a loud verbal argument right at the entrance of the restaurant, in front of lots of diners. Once our group sat down, our waiter proceeded to be one of the rudest people, let alone someone who works in service, I've ever come across. It was as if we were infringing on his pleasant night experience by being customers there. He berated and somehow scolded us during our order, slammed dishes down on our table, took things away before people were finished, and ignored us when we wanted the bill. It was so bad, that a good-humored waiter had to come by several times to try and joke with us about his colleague being stressed. That same waiter tried to calm his colleague but ended up fighting with him just as we'd seen at the entrance. I've always gone to Zum Gemalten Haus, next door, because I'd heard about experiences like this. We went because of a farewell meal for a colleague and all these rumors were basically confirmed - and then some. On top of that, the food was bad, served cold and not corrected. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Do yourself a favor and try Zum Gemalten Haus.

Yelp
This place was recommended to us by multiple Frankfurt locals since we were looking for authentic German food when we originally came from Houston, Texas, USA. Everything completely exceeded our expectations! The apple wine was said to be an acquired taste by locals, but everyone in my group loved it! We easily finished a big pitcher full and wanted more. The outdoor patio area was nice because it was very spacious, covered, and had these heaters that kept you warm. As far as the food goes, this was probably my favorite meal in Frankfurt, Germany! We tried their Jaegerschnitzel, the wienerschnitzel with the special green sauce, the crispy fried pork knuckle, and their roasted beef prime rib. All of their entrees came with the best crispy yet fluffy potatoes, the perfect side dish, and the schnitzels came with a side salad as well. The food really blew me away with how good German food could be, I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone!

Yelp
Being that it was my first time in Germany, I was open about the German cuisine and was down to try everything. Donner Kebabs and schnitzel were the two main foods that I got to try and ate on a daily basis because I enjoyed it so much. Apfelwein Wagner took it up a notch with their schnitzel stuffed with sauerkraut and onions! It was by far the best version of schnitzel I ate while in Germany and I also enjoyed the Argentinian steak with the absolutely delicious potatoes! The vibe was very nice with a lot of young folks from the local area as well as foreigners (ourselves included) from around the world! Everyone was happy and having themselves a great time. Our waiter was very funny and made the experience a whole lot better!

Yelp
I ordered a steak tartar and got this "thing" from the picture, when i told the chef that nowhere on earth this would be called a steak tartar he yelled at me in front of all customers.

Yelp
Great place to try typical and authentic German food in a casual place. Sounds like a tourist trap but it has been recommended to me by locals and I've seen a lot of German people eating there. The service was quite speed (which is understandable given the number of tables) but our waiter was nice, though. Our food was very good. I ordered a homemade Bratwurst with a potato puree and sauerkraut. It was simple but very good. The quantity was just fine, not too large (as it is not the most expensive dish on the menu) but not too small. My boyfriend's Zwiebelschnitzel (pork escalope with onions) and fried potatoes were very good as well. The place was crowded and noisy so we didn't stay long after we finished. That's the thing I didn't really like about this place. Maybe because I was tired that evening ...

Yelp
As a native who moved to the US at age 12, I have returned to my place of birth many times. In my younger years, my parents would take me and family and guests to the Gemalte Haus, right down the street. Over the years I explored the neighborhood and discovered Wagner. Ever since, this is my go to for Frankfurter Küche. The menu is extensive. The service is a mixture of the traditional cool Waiter with some more friendly customer service. All the local specialties plus some more regional dishes are available. You will see folks from many different nations commingling at the long communal tables. Don't miss this venue!

Yelp
Honestly, if I could give this Apfelwein Wagner no stars, I would. This place is not friendly to tourists. I hate to write negative reviews, but if it helps anyone visiting Frankfurt to avoid a bad dining experience, I'm all for it. The service was horrible and the waiters were extremely rude. Unfortunately, it's not worth it to try Frankfurt's apple wine if this is the service that accompanies it. Besides the fact that the apple wine in general wasn't particularly good, this place is chaotic and the staff were extremely unfriendly. My friend and I heard that this place might be good to taste apple wine for dinner. It was a busier night, however, when we came into the restaurant, no waiters acknowledged us. We saw plenty of them, but they were so unorganized. I politely asked a question to several waiters (should I put my name down on a waitlist or is it first come/first serve?), but all I got back was rude, blank stares and them ignoring us like they didn't have the time of day. The wait staff made me feel like I was bothering them, and one older male waiter even yelled at me for asking for more clarification. One of the younger waiters tried to apologize (with a look) for the older waiter's aggressive behavior, but by that time, my night was ruined. Who wants to dine at a place where you feel like a second class citizen? I certainly don't. It's sad overall, because I was so excited to try this place out after reading some reviews. This restaurant, if you can call it that, single handedly put me in a bad mood for the rest of the night. I recommend spending your time and money elsewhere.

Yelp
Cool place. I was climbing the steps of the Kaiserdom on a very, very hot day. Over 90 degrees Fahrenheit and I have a big backpack. Bad idea: great view. On the way up, met a guy climbing up slowly as well. He stuck up a conversation and showed my wife and I the buildings and the history of Frankfurt. Turns out that he has lived here for 30 years. Took him for a beer close by and he was very nice. I invited him and his wife to dinner. I didn't know where my best friend was planning on dining that night, but I told him I would text him back with the place. Turns out that it was this place. He couldn't make it, but said it was a good choice and a great restaurant. Very open, busy place. Friendly but busy. Plain and simple but not in a bad way. I liked it when I walked in. I had the pork knuckle and my wife had the weinerschnitzel. She and my friend had the apple wine. The potatoes were excellent and so was the pork. I am told the wine is an acquired taste. The two companions said it was delicious. I liked it. I will be back.

Yelp
Staff is a little rough, I guess that's part of the ambiance. But the food was great. Enjoyed the experience very much. Apple strudel was great although maybe overpriced.

Yelp
I was in Frankfurt for the Ambiente decoration fair and this place was recommended by the hotel staff as a "true german restaurant". Well, it is true, you eat all german food (all king of pork, schnietzel...). However, this restaurant take advantage of the exhibition to ripp off tourists. The waiter "parked" us on a table for 8 (though we were only 3) with 4 other people we didn't know. Served us a HUGE pitcher of AppleWein (that was suppose to be for 8 too) though we only asked 1 glass each. Brought us a bottled water though we didn't ask (and charged us with it though we didn't open it). The food was okay. DO NOT DRINK the so famous applewein. It taste like rancid cider and will give you a headache! And the service was SO bad, that it doesn't deserve more than 1 star. And if Zero had existed, it would have gotten 0

Yelp
So I'm no authority on German schnitzel. All I can say is that I've tried some of the schnitzel we have in New York, and it's all right, but I told myself I don't really need to try it again. Then I ended up stuck in Frankfurt due to visa issues on a business trip. I booked an airbnb and the super friendly host Jerry told me I had to try some schnitzel while I'm here! I was like, okay, sure -- lets see what you've got. Hands down the BEST FREAKIN' SCHNITZEL I've ever had, and I will be searching for something equivalent in New York from now on. I don't know why, but the New York schnitzel just made me think bready and crusty and kinda dry. This was soft and juicy on the inside, and still a little crisp on the outside, and EVERYTHING was delicious! The potatoes have a nice garlic and herb mix, and were soft on the inside with a little caramelization on the outside. The cutlet with the mushrooms and gravy was heavenly. We had a giant jug of apfelvine cider that helped cut and balance the heavy meal too. Spot on. The flavors in the cutlet and the potatoes gave my stomach a warm and cozy craving for the sort of home food you imagine in European fairy tales. Heavy but soooo satisfying and portions were really solid (when compared to NY). Absolutely coming back if I'm ever stuck in Frankfurt again. Why four stars? Because I can't justify a five star rating if I haven't at least tried schnitzel at a few different places, but boy this is way beyond the schnitzel in New York!

Yelp
I found this tavern to be so satisfying both in food and the celebratory atmosphere. Yes, a tiny bit touristy but also plenty of Germans. The staff was friendly and accommodating, so that you truly feel welcome. While the wine hall aspect makes the experience unique and the apfelwein and a plate of traditional frankfurt meats makes it an experience that you won't soon forget. My only regret is that I was not there when the courtyard was open.

Yelp
Traditional German spot but no beer only apple wine. No doubt an acquired taste! I highly recommend the meat platter which is sample of all that is offered. Pork knuckle is by far the best thing on the plate. Scored and fried this cut has biting chicharrones and juicy meat. Eat that with sauerkraut and it's about heaven. Just wish I had a beer to wash it down with!

Yelp
Craving schnitzel? Here's the place ... and it can be had plain or Jaeger-style (with mushroom gravy sauce) or Gruener sauce (herb sauce). You just get the Bratkartoffeln (fried potatoes, as only the Germans have mastered). This landmark doesn't serve beer, but Apfelwein, a regional favorite. Every time I travel to Frankfurt, this restaurant is my destination.

Yelp
I'm not a huge fan of apfelwein (Apple wine) but I tried it and its unique. Pairs well with the flavors of the meal but I was craving a beer so that's part of my 3 star rating. Dinner was good, its loud and I loved it. Great feel, friendly. Unique. They have an English menu which is helpful. Its a shared table experience which is unique and worth the experience to meet new people even if its just a nod hello as you join them at their table.

Yelp
'Be careful there is no bear' an online tip for this place warned me. While I was busy wondering how this fact might lead to more caution on my part I discovered the completely unrelated absence of any beers on the menu. So Apfelwein then? Unfortunately unlike Beer (and indeed Bear) free pubs I have enjoyed before, such as the wonderful Cider bar in Newton Abbot (http://www.qype.co.uk/place/155040-Ye-Olde-Cider-Bar-Newton-Abbot) , this bar only served the one cider..their own. While this served me perfectly well for a short visit, I'd crave some more variety if staying much longer.

Yelp
A solid but touristy spot for apfelwein and brats. Not much basis for comparison, but for an outsider it was enjoyable, huge portions, and affordable.

Yelp
Like others said here, this place is very crowded and loud at times and if this is the case, you WILL share a table with others, but so what? Apart from this, I love how Hessian this place is. From the Apfelwein to the green sauce and potatoes, this is a top spot for me here in Frankfurt. Prices are reasonable and the portions are huge. Very worth it. And the Bembels everywhere are so cute, it makes it seem even more Hessian than what it already is. All the bad reviews are most likely from Americans who are used to getting their ass kissed and go by "the customer is always right" in the States, and since Germany doesn't do that, they're butthurt by that. The world doesn't revolve around you!

Yelp
Two of my friends came to visit from Amsterdam so thought I could take them to try German food and since I live in Sachsenhausen thought that Wagner is a close choice. I don't have much experience with such restaurants cause it's hard to find vegan stuff there since I am one. We entered the rest and the waiter said you should order fast cause the kitchen is closing soon. We sat and waited for 20 mins none came so I asked the waiter if we can order and what do I get in return? He shouted at me in the most aggressive way ever -(I spoke in German politely)-I've heard a lot about the service at such places but always thought there must be a reason for their rudeness. My friends couldn't believe that I live in a place where people get screamed at at rests. I know it doesn't matter to them if they'll ever see my face again which they'd certainly not. Maybe cause I don't look German at all or maybe for many other reasons which neither my friends nor the people who were on the table next couldn't understand. I know a lot of us get treated badly and we don't complain cause we don't wanna make things worse. But that's how such people keep doing what they're doing. I did at the end let my friends finish their food and I didn't wanna order anything there although I should've left. Think we can all agree that hospitality is a must for a good dining experience. Which this guy never showed and he gave a terrifying image of the German rests. I wasn't expected to be spoiled but at least to be respected. I had a very stressful day at work and was looking forward to the weekend and to top it all I got screamed at in front of a lot of people for a reason I couldn't fathom by an aggressive (human). Is this fair in any sense? I don't know.
