On the Grid : Dirty Dozen

"Ok, we're just going to put it out there - it's whiffy down in the underpass. But it's worth it. Dirty Dozen is an initiative of the City of Melbourne that sees the repurposing of 12 glass cabinets to present works of creative practitioners, across a range of fields. A focus on inventive, site specific work drives the programming. At the time these photographs were taken the exhibitors were engineers & scientists Skunk Control, who explore the communication of science through art, and art through science." - Grosz Co Lab

Friends came all the way from Brisbane and said they wanted to eat soufflé pancakes, so I brought here, Adozen Adozen. It’s such a charming little spot — small, cosy, and really inviting. My friends went for the fresh fruit pancakes, while I opted for the hojicha cookie version since I’m not big on overly sweet desserts. The hojicha cookie pancakes were really lovely — the roasted tea flavour paired perfectly with the cookie crumbles, balancing out the sweetness beautifully. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re not a fan of overly sweet desserts. My friends absolutely loved their fresh fruit pancakes and even said these were the best soufflé pancakes they’ve had in Australia — soft, fluffy, not at all dense or dry, and just the right level of sweetness. They also said they’d absolutely come back again the next time they’re in Melbourne.

I had such a lovely time at Adozen Adozen recently, and their atmosphere and treats totally delivered. I ordered a black sesame latte, and it was just what I needed: smooth, nutty, fragrant and comforting, a perfect match to the cafe’s soft, chill vibe. The cafe itself is cozy and cute, with that laid-back Carlton charm, perfect for relaxing solo or catching up with friends. Their pancakes and desserts have a real reputation. Adozen Adozen is known for their soufflé style pancakes, but the drinks menu, like this black sesame latte, shows they can do warm, comforting drinks just as well. The service felt relaxed and friendly, which made the experience feel low key and easy (the kind of place you can just chill and enjoy).

I visited the store tonight (28/09) with a friend. Initially, we ordered the Tiramisu one, not realizing that it didn't have the halal label on the menu. Once it came out and was served, the staff kindly confirmed with us that it was in fact, the literal only pancake that was not halal. She very nicely told us we can switch the menu to another one that's halal-friendly or ask for a refund. We chose to change our order to a vanilla brulee. It was splendid! The souffle pancake was incredibly soft, and it wasn't too sweet. We were touched by the staff's consideration about the halal menu (for context, we're hijabis), she went out of her way to help us out. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask for her name. Our biggest gratitude to her. Would definitely come back for the pancake, the vibes and warm service.

We passed the store earlier in the night and the menu looked enticing. Came back later that night, and it was well worth it! Delicious & aesthetic food and drinks, and a very cosy & comfy environment. It's the perfect dessert spot to enjoy something light, sweet and refreshing, surrounded by a warm glow and amazing smells :)

Such a lovely little place, with friendly and charming service. Worth the wait for amazing, light & fluffy soufflé pancakes. The cheesecakes were so good too; perfectly made with delicious flavour choices. Definitely coming back to try different flavours

My mum has been wanting to visit for so long and we finally got the opportunity to go today! 10/10 souffle pancakes, the best I’ve ever had really they’re so soft and jiggly while being thoroughly cooked all the way through. We ordered the matcha pancakes, fresh fruit pancakes, yuzu cheesecake, fruit boom green tea, and sakura and berry hot tea served in a small teapot. Everything was great, staff was friendly, the restaurant itself is really cute with very clean tables and chairs. It was overall a lovely dining experience. The cheesecake was soft and had a melt in your mouth experience too.

Craving dessert late at night in Melbourne and stopped by this pancake place. Food and service were great! Liked how it’s slightly on the outskirts of the city which is easier to park or less lines to get in.

Absolutely divine!!! The cake was super fluffy and fresh, the hojicha cream was so smooth, and the genmaicha tea 🍵 was really refreshing. High recommended!
