Adventure Lodge and Motels

We spent one fabulous night there with this lovely couple who went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The rooms were perfect, warm and super clean, towels were soft and fluffy, bed was super comfortable. We walked a short distance to a restaurant for a meal then back again to warmth and total comfort. Breakfast in the communal kitchen which was also just perfect. None of us could fault this place run by the most fabulous and personable couple. Thank you!

My sister and I stayed here last year on our first trip to NZ from the US. We were visiting during off-season and weren’t quite sure what to expect in tongariro, but John, Gill, and the rest of their staff were the epitome of hospitality. We arrived early by train and were allowed to check in to our room early and they even upgraded our room for free. They helped us plan out our schedule for our short 2 day trip to the area and even drove us up the mountain to the sky lift so we could spend a few hours at Whakapapa, AND loaned us winter gear! I hope to get to come back and visit one day, and I’ll certainly be staying here again! Thank you John & Gill!

Recently had the chance to stay here- it was an absolute pleasure to experience the hospitality. The food served was top notch and all meals were well planned and prepared us well for the hike. The spa after long days hike was great and the rooms were great. For the money we paid as a group- it was a really good experience.

A great value, we were made to feel very welcome, and the common space is super cozy. Plus we appreciated the spa pool! A nice place to stay near the National Park.

Awesome stay recently. Super nice couple that own the motel. Upgraded us to a great room with a super comfy bed and nice and warm on a cold night for our baby. Amazing dvd collections too!

Needed a place for two nights on either end of our Tongariro hike and this fit the bill! Affordable and simple, had that roadside motel charm. The hot tub was great after the hike too! Rooms won't have many bells and whistles but met our needs, especially with the on-site shuttle to and from the trail!

Cheap and cheerful. I would say this is more like backpackers accommodation. The rooms and toilet/shower areas were fine, but the walls were very thin. We could hear conversations next door and above us. The floor boards were so creeky that a normal footstep sounded very loud. Although it was ok, this was just not for me.

Studio rooms with kitchenette are simple but have everything you need. Comfy bed, good pillows, plenty of hot water, blackout curtains. As other reviewers note- you can hear everything in the adjacent rooms. But everyone seemed respectful of being good, quiet neighbors, so it wasn't a problem.
