The 6 Best Hostels in Queenstown (Updated 2025)

"Located just off Camp Street, I found Adventure Queenstown Hostel extremely social and lively — they run a different event every night (quiz and boardgame nights, scavenger hunts, pub crawls, potluck dinners), which makes it perfect for meeting other travelers but not ideal if you want a quiet stay. The staff can book activities, they offer free GoPro and bicycle rentals, and can even rent skis and snowboards in winter. The wooden bunks are spacious with thick mattresses, privacy curtains, and lockers under the beds so you can sleep decently and keep your stuff safe." - Matthew Kepnes

We stayed at this hostel in a private double room, and it was fantastic. The room was super cute and even had its own terrace, which we really loved. The overall atmosphere is great, and the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. The hostel offers tons of useful extras: you can borrow everyday items like irons and hairdryers, and even rent sports equipment such as snowboards at very affordable prices. There’s also a great and inexpensive laundry service (NZD 12 per wash, about €6), and it was quick and efficient. The only downside is that it can get quite loud at night due to nearby clubs, with music and bass going until around 4 a.m. If you’re sensitive to noise, earplugs are a must. Aside from that, it’s a really cool hostel and highly recommended!

The location of the hostel is really good. Even though we had a rental car, there are plenty of free spots to park overnight and reception gives out a map of all the nearby spots. Staff is friendly and happy to help with whatever you need. The reason I’m rating it low is because of the level of cleanliness and hygiene is very low. I stayed at a few other hostels and this was the only spot where I found heaps of hair in towels, bed linens and that left me wondering if they’re washing the sheets and covers after every guest. I’m not sure why the bed linens are dark colored. The whole point with using white linens is to ensure it can be cleaned easily and bleached. My biggest concern though is the mold in the bathroom. That one is a health hazard. But I guess if you care about none of these and just need to bunk somewhere for the night, this works fine.

Rooms - I stayed in a 4 bed room. The beds are comfortable and cozy. Fresh clean towels are available daily. Kitchen - huge kitchen area overlooking the central surroundings outside. Lots of seating. Location - Queenstown central, everything is easily accessible. NOTE: no elevators. You’d need to take stairs with all your luggage.

Short but sweet. Stayed here for 2N. Room mates were great and friendly including reception staff. Comvient location for those who don't have a car. Easy short walk to bus station for the airport. Exploring the city is easy to navigate in minutes. Within my 2N stay I visited the Onsen hotsprings 15 min bus or 10 min drive, TSS earnslaw buffet dinner at Walters Peak and Milford Sound. Sad to depart very early in the morning upon checkout due to a 14H journey back to Christchurch. Highly recommend this hostel. Just make sure when booking to check as there is 2 AQ just 3 mins apart.

Loved my stay, Adventure has the best hostels in NewZealand! The staff were amazing Lelaina, Imo, Elze and Sam shout out to you guys, going above and beyond for everyone. You guys deserve a medal! Views are unreal and the balconies are 10/10, All the events are so much fun with my favourite being Music Bingo🎶on Thursday night ;) Halloween was a blast enjoyed every minute. See you next time I’m in Queenstown.

A great, friendly, welcoming and accommodating hostel in the middle of Queenstown. Can get loud on Music Bingo night, but, pop in some ear plugs if you don’t care to join and you are just fine… or.. JOIN! A great location with a nice balcony and view. Close to anything and everything you’d want.

Great location, and everything was clean enough for a comfortable stay, including the kitchen. My mattress was pretty old though—could feel the springs poking through. Got unlucky with a loud snorer, but that's just hostel life, not their fault. Tip: grab a coffee in the kitchen at sunrise. The view is really nice and worth getting up early for.

While the staff are great, the facilities are in a state of total disrepair. The building has a persistent, unpleasant odor, and I encountered broken showers, non-functional PCs, and even flooding in the rooms. The owners need to invest in basic maintenance.

Yelp
One of the Best. This hostel is simply amazing. The service, the location, the staff, the rooms. I really enjoyed my stay here. It is a very welcoming environment. The bedrooms are very comfortable and there is charging points every where. The lounge room has a massive TV with such a great selection of movies. There is internet access computers and a webchat room. The staff are super friendly and help you with any ANY requirement, booking or reservation you would like to make. I highly recomend this place if any ever visits Queenstown.

Yelp
The quintessential hostel located in the coolest little town on earth! My friend and I absolutely loved the AQ Hostel. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful - making lots of phone calls and reservations on our behalf. You could not find a hostel more perfectly located - in the heart of town and a block away from Ferburger and The Cookie Bar. Best part of the whole hostel? The BED... Yes the bed! Our beds were super comfortable and didn't make any noises when getting in and out (which is incredible for a hostel). The week is also jammed packed with fun activities at the hostel from movie nights and family style roasts to trivia nights and scavenger hunts. Couldn't recommend it enough - we had a great time.

Yelp
The best youth hostel I've ever stayed in. Check their trip advisor rating. It has so many positive reviews for a reason!
