Went on an 4-6 hour whitewater rafting trip through Adventures on the Gorge. Whole trip was a 10/10, nothing they could have done better, everything was top notch, professional and fun. Our trip guide was JV and he did an amazing job explaining the rules and expectations of the trip. Our boat guide was Ben and he was awesome. Before every rapid he told us our boat plan of action and which way to swim. It was most of ours first time, and I felt like I was in great hands, and could trust that I would be okay if something happened. The river side lunch was phenomenal. Can not recommend this company enough.

Went white water rafting here and it was so much fun! They really go out of their way to make you feel safe, and have the best rafting experience. The location was so beautiful and everything from the gift shop, to the bus ride was enjoyable. Our guide was Alaska! He was phenomenal. I will definitely be back!

Our Boy Scout troop planned a weekend trip in August at Adventures on the Gorge staying in their cabins and participating in a whitewater rafting trip. I am not exaggerating when I say that I was completely impressed from the start to the finish of our overall stay with our experience of the awesome program offered through Adventures on the Gorge!! The program and the way they do everything was an amazing experience!! The cabins were great; the breakfast and dinner was fantastic, the whitewater program was awesome. The lunch they provided during our whitewater trip was excellent. They also have a great store with plenty of selection for souvenirs. Our raft guides, Jo Bo and Shawn Riley, really made our trip a fun and great experience. They helped instruct our Scouts on the requirements for a Boy Scout whitewater rafting patch so our Scouts could earn this activity patch during this trip. Great job Adventures on the Gorge!!! We hope to return again next summer... Thank you for an awesome overall experience...

Stayed in the Miles house. It was perfect for a big group. Plenty of room for everyone. Huge kitchen, laundry room, 3.5 bathrooms. It is 2 floors. Top floor is 3 bedrooms with queen beds, kitchen, laundry, living room. Bottom floor is 2 futons with pool table, then 4 twin beds in a room.

We loved white water rafting with Adventures on the Gorge. We had Ray-Ray as our river guide, and he was the best we could have gotten! He was hilarious, but he also made sure we were prepared for each situation with each rapid we were about to encounter. We would go on any rafting with him! We can now say we rafted the Gauley, and we enjoyed every moment!

We have been here multiple times. The Upper Gauley river is always a blast. The food they serve on some river trips is great. Guides are fantastic and today with Monica was great. Experienced and friendly guides make the trips so much better.

Stayed in a modern cabin, has a microwave and a mini fridge, the bathroom was nice, a heated floor and a nice big shower. They had a lazy boy recliner that was a nice surprise. The pool was small but nice, there is a general store super close that sells sandwiches and supplies. I would definitely go back

Andy, our guide down the river was the BEST. I was extremely nervous to raft at age 67! But Andy got us down with only one spill at the end! Class rapids no worries! The meal at lunch exceeded my expectations, just wonderful. My family had a fantastic adventure.

Yelp
This review is only for white water rafting. Our group did the full day Lower New River trip on Memorial Day weekend. We had all been white water rafting before in different places in New England and the Mid Atlantic. This experience blew them out of the water! First, safety was really important here. We received very thorough instructions on what to do in almost every situation, from the raft flipping to falling out. The guides clearly train for a long time and every guide on our trip had over 10 years of experience. White water rafting can be very dangerous so it was good to know that safety came first. Our guides were also hilarious! The trip leader Ark had the best sense of humor and made the safety talks fun. He was also our river guide and WOW. He's funny, but he's also really intelligent and shared with us tons of knowledge about the science of rivers, history of the area, and natural history. He made the trip absolutely amazing. Finally, let's talk about the water! There were some really serious rapids here! None of us had ever done such intense white water rafting before. The rapids were awesome, and with the full day trip you warm up on smaller ones before getting into the serious stuff. The trip also included an opportunity to jump from a high rock, swim through a series of rapids, and take a dip. We floated under the famous New River Gorge bridge as well. We went at a great time of the year because it was warm enough that we didn't need wetsuits but the water was still cold and refreshing. The bus trip was brief. The gear was all in good condition and the guides made sure your life vest was fitted properly. Lunch was great and had tons of options. You could make your own sandwich with four different types of bread, peanut butter and jelly, Turkey and ham, condiments, and toppings like lettuce and tomatoes. There was also pasta salad, fresh fruit, a cold Asian rice salad, tortilla chips and salsa, and pudding! When we got back on the bus there were plenty of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to choose from. We had a fabulous time. I would strongly recommend Adventures on the Gorge for your rafting trip!

Yelp
Stayed for 3 days in a glamping tent. The tent is really quite large, nice and sturdy. Very much enjoyed making a campfire in the firepit and sitting in the chairs provided to watch all the stars in the dark West Virginia night sky come out and twinkle--so lovely. This is something that we can't do in DC due to all the artificial lights that are on 24/7. I like the fact the glamping campsites are somewhat far away from each other, not on top of the next campsite, like some places are. Check-in was super easy and everything was in order upon arrival. I appreciate that when here, you can be as involved in the various offerings as you want to or just commune with nature. There's no pressure to do anything. All the staff I engaged with were friendly, with-it and welcoming. The walking trails were just okay, perhaps need a bit more TLC in spots that get washed out. Went to the Java Falls coffee shop one time during normal operating hours and it wasn't open; no one could tell us why this was so. Overall it was a good experience. I would definitely come back here.

Yelp
So yeah...I did the Gravity ZipLine and I've never ZipLine'd in my life before. How was it? Well, if you've ever wondered what it was like flying without wings or an airplane this is for you (Also, I'm terrified of heights) INCREDIBLE. Probably top 3 things I've ever done in my life. They really set you up for success during the three hours you're doing the tour. You start small, medium, then of course the Adrenaline AKA LARGE. It was all great. You go over the safety equipment, you go over what is correct/incorrect, what is tight/loose, the ZipLine equipment, and expectations. You do about 7 Zips with #7 being the main show. Even being terrified of heights, I was 100% comfortable the entire time. Flying through a mountain on a ZipLine going about 70 mph I just have one thing to say after it all..."zip it away zip it away zip it away now!"

Yelp
Excellent rafting experience with Guido, Mike, and JR. our daughter's first rafting experience and now she wants to go back. Couldn't have asked for a better crew on the river. Definitely will be back!

Yelp
This was a great first experience with white water rafting. We did the half day tour of the lower river, and the rapids were absolutely thrilling. Everyone on our raft got soaking wet, but no one was thrown out. Our guide, Amanda, was funny and kept us safe during the trip. She explained interesting features of the river to us as we cruised along and always prepared us for how to handle the upcoming rapids. I highly recommend this experience for anyone visiting the new river gorge area. I'm withholding 1 star because we had to wait around for a bit longer than usual in the morning because of some unforeseen staffing issues that the outfitter was having. However, we eventually got back on track and had a perfect day on the water.

Yelp
We stayed in a hotel type cabin for two nights. The cabin was very clean and decorated with modern cabin-type appointments including a fabulous television and plenty of hot water and luxury towels in the hotel-quality bathroom. The microwave and refrigerator were welcome. The only inconvenience was the lack of internet in our cabin. (We did not check out the main lodge to see if internet was available there.) The fire pit was a nice addition. We did not do any activities with the resort, but if we return we will investigate their river rafting options. The location is fabulous--just a few minutes away from the New River Gorge bridge. We would definitely stay there again.

Yelp
We recently went for a whitewater raft trip on the gauley river with this company. We had great service and a very memorable time. We had previously in the year did the new river and liked them so much we decided to go down the gauley with them. Lunch was great and plentiful and always look forward to the beer at the end of the trip. Both times we stayed in the cabins there and both were nice. During the new river trip it was me and my husband so we had a one bedroom one bath cabin and second time was a family cabin with two bedrooms two baths with pull out couches as we were bringing along my mom, stepdad, and oldest son. The family cabin we nice and quaint but the beds were spring mattresses the made loud sounds every time someone moved which did not make for a great sleeping experience. Overall I would still go back and rent a cabin. They also have a couple dinning options that are good as we felt after a long day on the river we didn't want to venture out to find food.

Yelp
Beautiful place! The views was breathtaking and live music at Smokey's on the Gorge and a quaint coffee shop..people just chilling watching the sunset.

Yelp
We had the best time whitewater rafting this weekend at Adventures on the Gorge. This is one of the best weekend trips we've taken. Highly recommend requesting John Weekley as your guide- we plan on coming back and requesting him. He was a great instructor but also had all of us laughing during the trip. This was my second whitewater rafting experience. The first one didn't leave a big impression and I waited over 10 years to go again. I really believe our guide, Weekley, is the reason why this trip was such a success! He made the trip awesome and we plan on going back as soon as we can schedule another trip.

Yelp
A couple of years ago we took a rafting trip in New River Gorge with a different company and we enjoyed it so much we came back. A family member chose the exact resort because we had been recommended it by a friend. Honestly, I didn't realize until not long before the trip that this was a different company. The rafting trip was really fun, once we left. The check in was disorganized. The guide was skilled at controlling the raft and we were able to enjoy Class I-IV rapids on a hot and unexpectedly sunny day. It was nice that they provided cold alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages on the ride back to the resort. The problem really was that our guide was unpleasant. When this was provided as feedback (more specific than I'll elaborate on this post) in the post-trip survey form, the resort called right away and offered a voucher for the whitewater trip for next year. This proactive customer service is well appreciated and we plan to return to use it. We stayed at the resort for several days in a cabin. The cabin itself was nice, although the temperature control between the top and bottom floors was a bit spotty and there was a lot of dust on the fan blades. Otherwise, it was well situated with a hot tub in a wooded setting and we enjoyed it. The pool area is well appointed and the woman at the bar was very nice. When we had an issue with the hot tub they came promptly to fix it. So, it wasn't kink-free, but we enjoyed our trip. The New River Gorge is absolutely gorgeous and this resort provided many ways to enjoy it.

Yelp
Whut water rafting on the New and Gauley Rivers has come a long long way since I first started enjoying this high adventure sport. The Upper Gauley is one of the greatest and most challenging white water rivers in North America when running during "Gauley Season" in the Autumn. Growing up around this area have been a number of white water guide companies. Adventures on the Gorge is at, in my opinion, at the apex of that experience. A campus has developed with a variety of lodging, from tents to cabins, on site, and amenities including a pool, coffee shop, restaurant and gift/clothing shop. Zip lining is an offering here, but on my most recent trip I didn't come for that service. I was exclusively here to run the Upper Gauley. Then of course is the actual guide service. I've contracted with several guide services on the two rivers over the years and have always been pleased with my experience with AOTG. The staff are friendly & helpful. Video services ate available to have a record of your visit to the river to look back on. I highly recommend using this offering. My most recent experience on the river was with 2020 Guide of the Year "Mogul" Mike Hunn. It was quite a day. Mike has been rafting in West Virginia since 1984, is a consummate professional, & quite knowledgeable about the Gauley River, how it runs at various flow rates and how it's changed over the years.

Joseph D.

Yelp
This year in addition to rafting we did the treetops zip lining canopy tour which was fantastic. Cullen and Ryan were informative, entertaining and extremely knowledgeable. The zip lining itself was a bit scary but at no time did I feel like I was in danger. It is definitely a safety first adventure where you are tethered at all times, even when changing lines. Even the guides follow the same rules. The value added piece of this adventure was the amazing information the guides dishes out. We learned a lot about the flora and fauna and also the genesis of why this zip line facility was built. There is an invasive Japanese beetle that is killing all the conifers in this forest, So they installed the zip line tour to fund treatment of their 40 acre property where they treat every tree every three years as needed. So not only was fun, it helps to save this amazing forest!

Yelp
White-water rafting here at AOTG was definitely a highlight of our June 2021 family vacation trip to Fayetteville, WV. My wife, two sons (15 yrs, 13 yrs), and I enjoyed the full day-trip on the Lower New River, but did not stay at the lodge. We rented an AirBnB house in Fayetteville during our stay. The AOTG facility is located about 1 mile off Route US-19 on the northeast side of the gorge (opposite side from Fayetteville). Check-in will be in the main facility complex on the left as you enter. The resort was founded by visitors from Cincinnati, Ohio and has the feel of a corporate retreat area - which may be appealing for large family reunions. Check-in was easy. I liked that they asked folks to arrive early and get settled before orientation. Fooz was the expedition leader and he conveyed a fun sense of humor that put people at ease. After a 20 minute bus ride along narrow roads, everyone was dropped off at the initiation point (Cunard landing). The full-day expedition includes a catered lunch and gives you plenty of time for swimming, jumping off a rock (optional if you wish), and even "surfing" on some of the rapids. First, the Lower New River was delightful with a nice temperature in June for swimming. It was a perfect mix of moderate and challenging rapids for my teenage sons. My wife and I appreciated there were calm sections of the river where you can swim. Second, the final section when you pass under the New River Gorge Bridge is amazing. It's really something to stare up 875 feet to the bridge span and hear tales of people catapulting off the bridge in October (for Bridge Day) and landing everywhere. It makes you grateful to be doing this trip in June (and not on Bridge Day). Third, our raft guide (Amanda) was excellent and had a lot of prior experience. Finally, one advantage of going with AOTG is that the website makes it easy to sign-up for a rafting trip. I would definitely go with AOTG again! Be sure to do the full-day option. In my opinion, a half-day would be too rushed to enjoy the river (and you miss out on the delicious lunch!). At the end of the trip, my teenage sons asked when we could go white water rafting again!

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Ultimately, I'm really disappointed to have spent $300 a night for a family resort to feel like I was dropped in the middle of a teenager's sleep-away camp or a frat party. After ten, roving bands of teens or young twentysomethings in the streets had their phones out with flashlights shining everywhere (read: in the faces of the families that were trying to sit by their campfire), blaring music, and yelling chants for ages. They could be heard halfway across the resort. This resort has a wonderful, large communal area, and i would love for this group to have enjoyed themselves boisterously there instead of in the middle of the road next to cabins that people have to save up to afford for family vacations. Now, I never want to blame a resort for the behavior of its patrons and I have slept in my share of rowdy campgrounds at $30 a night, but this was not that. Much more concerning for so many reasons, I tried to call the security number for a gentle assist, and the number had been disconnected. Troubling. When I finally got ahold of a staff member (not easy), I was told different hours for quiet time than what was listed in the check-in docs. This review is complicated. I always want to give a fair review, but there are definitely pros and cons here. (This review is for the accommodations, and not the rafting, food, or adventures.) All that said, the resort was new and clean. I was impressed by the quality and size of the cabins. It was comprehensive and included a lot of on-site amenities. The pool was great and had two lifeguards (but they were on EarPods, seemed distracted a lot of the time, and didn't switch out very often, so just watch your own kids). The views were lovely. The accessibility of food, retail, and adventures was convenient even if the staff sometimes seemed lacking in confidence. Only concerns were the value for the money- for the expectation of safety and of being able to spend a family evening by the fire. Or sleep.

Dolores C.

Yelp
Pleasant stay. An active resort without it feeling extremely crowded which was refreshing. The pool was nice too and kids enjoyed it immensely. We stayed in a cabin and enjoyed it. Close to everything. Would visit again.

Yelp
We did the TimberTreck aerial park with a family of 5. Just want to give a shout out to an awesome employee,Mariah, who made the experience a fantastic one and gave me a chance to do the black diamond course. Thanks Adventures on the Gorge for a great time!

Lee S.

Yelp
A 70s road trip destination for these two 70 plussers. Started with a raft trip on the upper New River in late October. What a rush. My 4th such trip. 1st for my partner in crime. Loved it, though Will had some physical issues getting comfortable with the need for flexibility and balance. Mike, our guide was very accommodating and looked out for him. To Will's credit, he didn't get knocked out of the boat, though 2 younger rafters did. Mike was helpful in instructing me as I assisted in the 2 water rescues. Great staff for a well organized, safe & fun experience.

Tyler J.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place! All of the staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is amazing and the adventures are handled with care and filled with fun! You feel like you made new friends at every corner. The parks and facilities are extremely clean and maintained. The chicken wings and hamburgers are a must! Most of the cooks are military veterans too. Thank you everyone for making the trip amazing!

Yelp
Yet another awesome Marathon day on the famous Gauley River From the early morning 6:15 AM check in with Dave - gracious, welcoming, very friendly - to the rest of the trip down the river, also with Dave (he turned out to be my Guide), we all had a terrific day, wrapping up around 4:30 PM. Again this year, I opted for the Marathon - which includes the Upper Gauley and the Lower Gauley. Having experienced Gauley Season 3 times before - starting over 20 years ago - I had great expectations for a fantastic day of rafting. I was not disappointed. When I went in 2020, COVID-19 was quite in full swing and they requested everyone wear masks - during check in, while eating lunch and on the bus ride to and from the river - but not when we were actually rafting down the river. In 2021, the mask requirements were not as strict, but still requested. Dave made sure that we all got to experience as many of the great rapids and interesting history of the river as he could. Unfortunately, I did fall in at the ironically named rapid, Insignificant. I fell in near the beginning of the rapid, and it was not a good place to fall in. Everyone, from my guide to my raft-mates, pitched in to get me back in the raft as quickly as they could, but it was not a pleasant experience. Thankfully, the rest of the trip was way more fun. I did manage to lose my river shoes, and ended up with sunburned feet for the next several days. Next year, I may invest in some river "booties" instead. Oh, I would also recommend you invest in some river gloves - with or with fingertips. Helped save my hand with all that paddling. With the Marathon, we were treated to a tasty lunch about halfway down. Due to COVID, the traditional "fix your own" ham/turkey/roast beef cold cut sandwiches had been replaced. This time they served everyone - from the chips/salsa/homemade nachos to a tasty pasta salad to the homecooked Hot pulled Pork, Chicken or Beef to the chocolate chip cookies with Hot Chocolate, hot coffee (nice after being in cold water) or tea. Yes, the food was plentiful, delicious and served to us by friendly faces. After 7 or 8 hours on the river and back to Camp, we got to see the still shots and videos and they had taken of us all down the river. Sadly though, I was not able to stick around this year to see them all - and yes, they did actually get video of my fall in at Insignificant. In fact, another raft flipped at "The Box" rapid; they got that on video too. In times way past, I had opted for an 8x10 for $25. Last year I splurged on the 130 pictures of only my raft. You can buy a thumb drive of all the pictures they took of your raft for $65 (in 2020). At first, I thought that was pricey - then I realized that was only $0.50 per shot. Even if not all of them are good, there should be plenty of good one to choose from. Dave was a good guide and easy to talk to. In fact, while he was a Rafting Guide in Chile, Dave had met one my college classmate, Arlene Burns. Arlene trained Meryl Streep for her part in River Wild; she only had 4 days to get her trained. Now I know. Yes, it was a long drive from Memphis to enjoy an awesome float trip down the Gauley. But I bet there are some of you folks who live within an hour or two of the Gauley who have not yet "treated" yourself to this incredible thrill ride. Whether you live in the area, or if you simply are looking for a fantastic float trip, you truly owe it to yourself to come "experience" the thrill of Gauley Season!

Myesha J.

Yelp
What a freaking time this was!! 10/10 recommend the Lower New River Gorge, such a great time I will pretty much recommend this to any and every one!!! If you do plan on going I suggest you ask for Jackson as your instructor, he's a blast!! I also recommend camping, they have a nice bar with live music, pool, sand volleyball and their bathhouses are really nice.

John H.

Yelp
Guides, facilities and adventures are exciting and fun. Highly recommend some fun in WV. Stunning place. Did the rafting and zip lines. My only complaints pertain to setting up the trip and check-in. I would have chosen different Zip line adventure options had they been explained by the agent that set up my two day trip. I was told I was booked for a kayak trip and ended up on a raft. At check-in our room was not ready. OK. But, we were given no resort information at the desk. No suggestion to wonder to the observation deck and grab a drink. NOTHING. When the room was ready, the only information provided was directions to our cabin. Some orientation would be nice and expected. All in do spend time here. I can't wait to get on the Upper Gauley River again.

Ariana B.

Yelp
What a fantastic place! I have been here many times, most recently with my husband for camping and white water rafting. The campus was very nice with a great view. Food at Smokey's was good. We stayed in a platform tent and we were happy with the setup. We were happy with the COVID-19 measures not only in place, but being enforced by staff. As for white water rafting, we did the full-day trip with a stop for lunch. Our guide was Derek Graves and he was fantastic! He was so knowledgeable, professional, kind and helpful. He made our trip safe, fun and entertaining. When we return (which we absolutely will), we will 100% request him! We recommend Adventures on the Gorge to all that visit the New River Gorge!

Sabrina W.

Yelp
Had such a fun time on our trip down the river with our guide Robbie! He was very knowledgeable, and shared lots of fun facts on the river. He was an awesome guide and was super fun to travel with. Really enjoyed our trip with AOTG. Thanks!

Hannah H.

Yelp
Adventures on the Gorge you get one star for your cabins. I really wanted to give you more but couldn't because when I pay $399 a night I expect clean. Upon arrival there was dirt and rocks all in the entry way. Upon further inspection, spills on the floor that were never cleaned from previous visitors. The quilts on the beds had Cheetos stains on them . The bathroom had a nasty shower. Mildew all over the grout where no one has been cleaning them. Not to mention every dish had to be cleaned by hand because the dishwasher didn't work. Plus the dried egg on the counter with the egg shell attached. My family and I stayed four nights. I went to Wal-Mart and got Clorox wipes to clean the floors and bathroom shower. Needless to say, this was a bust. I loved New River Gorge. However, don't stay at this vacation place. The cleaning company is horrible. I hope AOG hires out and can address this; however, I feel like no one will care since many other reviews state nothing was done about their bad experiences at AOG. I don't usually post reviews. Even if they are a bad review. However, this time I have to write what a bad experience my family and I had in the cabin. Its unacceptable.

Kristen S.

Yelp
Did a 1/2 day rafting trip with Adventures on the Gorge. Fidge was our guide. He was knowledgeable and funny and my family had a great time! I would highly recommend if you are in the area!

jessica b.

Yelp
My husband and I did a full day rafting trip with Mike K. He was so awesome and we had the best time laughing, rafting, swimming, floating down the rapids on the Gorge. We can't wait to go back! Such a beautiful place. Every guide was super chill. Lunch was family style which was pretty nice to just sit back and talk to people again and just be on the water. Mike was a wealth of knowledge and random fun facts. We ended the day with some brews and wings while watching our video in the pub. Totally recommend! One of the best couples day ever!!!

Donna C.

Yelp
I'm not an adventuring person (or at least I thought I wasn't). I had a great time here and loved the white water rafting and ATV adventure. Beautiful areas and scenes of the mountains. I highly recommend.

Brittany S.

Yelp
Just rafted the Lower New with Derek as our guide. He was great! We had so much fun plus he knew so much history about the river!! Can't wait to come back during Gauley Season!!!

Jerry J.

Yelp
The white water rafting excursion was awesome! Our second generation guide, Paul, had a fantastic personality, showed epic leadership skills and gave a great history of the River. Please give Paul a raise!

Laura M.

Yelp
I cannot recommend a rafting trip with this company enough! The guides were funny, fun, safe and friendly. We had a blast ! It was thrilling but we never felt in true danger because our guide was knowledgeable and told us what we would do in each scenario. We got to get out and swim and some people even jumped off of a rock into the water! We weren't sure what to wear so we ended up wearing bathing suits with tank tops and shorts over them with sneakers. This outfit worked well. They give you a life vest and helmet to wear. Flip flops and barefeet are not allowed so make sure to wear secure shoes that you do not mind getting wet. We went in mid August and the weather was perfect, water was 80 degrees! On the bus ride back they provide beverages (beer, seltzers, pop, lemonade). Lunch was surprisingly a nice variety. It was a make your own sandwich station with different sides and chips and salsa. Amazing experience. I am already planning my next trip back!

Nathasja T.

Yelp
We recently did the gravity ziplines with AOTG.. and what a fun experience that was! After doing some research on our way to WV, I decided upon these based on the Adrenaline. There are several zipline options in the area, but the lure of those stats reeled me in. Even if that was the "main event", the other zips were a ton of fun as well! The check-in process was smooth, especially if you do the waivers online.. saves some time and hassle. After that a short but scenic busride up and through the mountains to the gear station. A last stop to drop your belongings such as phones, wallets, keys..anything you don't dare loose over the tree canopies. Some more bus-ing and a briefing on how to zipline followed. Two practice lines to get used to everything - and off you go! The guides were friendly and fun, and the whole day was filled with excitement and beautiful views. I have nothing in the local area to compare, but this was an awesome time and I highly recommend it!

Yelp
Check in was a total breeze and the property is beautiful. We reserved the Outback 1 bedroom cabin for 4 people and stayed in the Fire Creek Cabin. When we first walked in, the cabin smelled musty and moldy but we opened the windows and never smelled it again. Could have been the A/C but we didn't complain or notify them. We had no other issues in our cabin. It was so nice and reg hot tub got super hot. We woke up early to do the Upper New River Duckie boat excursion. Just an FYI, our meet time was 9:20am and we didn't even hit the river until noon. I was very thankful I thought of packing granola bars bc we were starved. Our guide, who's name I cannot remember but had a Chicago Bears Urlacher jersey on, was so awesome. He was so attentive, fun and really great at customer service. My daughter rode solo and was at the front with him often and said he was really great and talked to her a lot. Take LOTS of sunblock and wearing long sleeve rash guards isn't a bad idea. You will get fried if it's sunny. We were first time rafters and didn't know what to expect but I am thankful we chose this. We had the autonomy to guide through the rapids ourselves. They were class 3 rapids that day so some were quite mighty and it was very thrilling. My daughter capsized during a huge wave and they were so quick to rush and help her. All the guides were amazing. The river had plenty of spots to relax but it was lots of paddling so you need to be in good shape. We did 12 miles. The scenery was stunning and we even saw a bald eagle. We didn't get to go to jump rock which was a let down but things happen and you have to roll with it. We had time to get out of our boats and swim. The river was so nice. We ended at 4:30 and was back by 5pm. They wrapped it up with beverages at the end which was heavenly!! The trip was so professional and put together so well. I would have paid way more for the experience. The lunch was delicious and fresh too. These people really know what they are doing. We loved coming back and using our personal hot tub to relax. The kids went down to the main pool but said it was packed and nowhere to sit. It's summer and a holiday week so that's probably to be expected. All in all, we will absolutely be back and the cost is 100% worth it!! Tips: purchase a waterproof rafting bag on Amazon that clips to your boat so you don't lose it. Ours still got about 3" of water in it so pack your phone in a waterproof phone case too. Take a couple granola bars and sunblock. You won't need anything else. They sell waterproof phone cases in the gift shop for $10. It's hard to get pics while rafting, almost impossible. We purchased the entire set of pics afterwards for $65. They were really fun to see!

Yelp
Adventures on the Gorge is such a complete outdoor guide and outfitter. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a help with a trip on the New River. We had a 10 person family trip with 5 adults and 5 kids (12- 18). There are some serious adventure junkies and some continuous complainers who prefer XBox to any thing else in the group. We took the Upper New River day trip. The trip was a successful and fun outing for everyone. The Upper New River trip was 6 miles in Duckies on the River all day. It was a beautiful paddle that completely satisfied my rocks, trees and water needs for the day. This section has several light rapids with plenty of splash for everyone to get excited. There is one section with some technical areas but not complicated by much that can really get you in trouble. It is easy to avoid the technical stuff if you like staying in your boat. The staff was extremely friendly and tremendous rafting/National Park/WV ambassadors. They were fun to be with, enjoyed there jobs and took excellent care of us. Lunch was provided. We had sandwiches and wraps with fruit, potato salad, slaw and brownies. It was delicious. There were vegetarian options.

Yelp
I stayed here for the first time when attending the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation Building Bridges Conference in November 2017. The deluxe cabin that we stayed in was four bedroom, two bath with a hot tub. It was perfectly equipped, clean, and cozy. The front desk staff was very welcoming and offered pertinent information about our stay, surrounding attractions, hiking map, and more. Our conference was held in the event center, within walking distance of our cabin, and was a gorgeous location. The views are breath-taking. The food was fresh and perfectly prepared - not your average "conference food". We sneaked away one evening for a hike and at the advice of the staff we did The Endless Wall Trail. It was the perfect choice. Thankfully we happened upon a local on the trail who pointed us to the Diamond Trail (?) overlook, which is easily one of the top 10 best views I've ever seen in WV. Absolutely amazing. We are already planning a return trip to Adventures on the Gorge next summer for pleasure instead of work.

Yelp
What an amazing day Zip Lining! Jess and Liz were awesome. This course had some challenges. Felt safe, they explained everything with clarity! Great time!

Yelp
This is a very exciting adventure that everyone will have fun on. The guides are very knowledgeable and if you listen you will get through it just fine. Our group of 6 did great and no one fell out of our boat. The tour guid Barry was awesome and kept us safe while having some fun. The gorge it's self is very beautiful and you can see lots of wild life during the trip. I think this is fun for the whole family and I highly recommend giving it a try.

Yelp
We were a group of 4 adults and had a great time rafting on the New River! We registered & filled out our waivers on-line...the process was easy. Upon arrival, we checked in and then shopped in their store while waiting for our trip to start. We decided to take a half-day trip and it was sufficient time to experience the rapids and even got swim time in the river. Our guide, Mabel was amazing...she was knowledgeable, funny and got us through the rapids safely! We highly recommend rafting the rapids with her! Would definitely visit Adventures on the Gorge again!!!

Yelp
Extremely interesting place. We were here for a retreat which this place is perfectly laid out for. The crew cabins are small but understand they offer different sizes depending on the event. The staff was extremely friendly and the food was good. The bar had a great selection of offerings.

Yelp
Did a lower New River rafting trip with AOTG (we did not lodge with AOTG), and my family had an incredible time. Tri was trip leader, did a great job explaining everything. Gear and equipment were solid. KP was our river guide in our boat and he was great. Professional and firm when needed to navigate the rapids, then personable and funny the rest of the time. He put my 16 year old and 14 year old in the front, and they got hammered with water and had a blast. Lunch was deli meat sandwiches, chips, pasta salad, and it was fine. Multiple opportunities to get out of the boat and swim. Would 100% recommend, and would go out on the water with KP anytime.

Yelp
Our team brought a group to AOG and had an amazing time! The food was great, view was the best and Jess made planning a breeze!

Yelp
Serious serious fun. Did white water for the first time in a single duckie inflatable kayak. Lots of animal life along the route. Even saw an eagle grab a fish from the water. Also did the zip & canopy tour. There are 10 zips and 5 sky bridges in this course. Zips are around 200-700 ft in length through a old hemlock forest. Staff are very professional. Costs are a little higher than most, but it is well worth it.

Yelp
Came here for takeout at the restaurant and the sunset view. This is the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset with a nice cold drink. They have Adirondack chairs placed perfectly for the view. During Covid, all employees were masked. Only half the patrons walking in were masked. It was pretty crowded if you are taking the proper precautions. We ordered the rueben sandwich and the rendezvous burger. Burger was excellent, the fries were slightly soggy. The rueben was just okay and I would probably not get it again. It was on regular sandwich bread and the meat had gristle in it. We ordered takeout to eat while watching the sunset and left immediately.

Yelp
I had an amazing time rafting the Upper Gauley with Adventures on the Gorge and it was amazing! The river guides were highly skilled and super friendly, making a crazy set of rapids an exciting and safe experience. On top of that, the campgrounds at Adventures on the Gorge has something for everyone. Half our group wanted to camp and we got a great site for that. The other half wanted a cabin with heat, shower and bathroom, and they had several choices to choose from. On top of that, AOTG offers several bars and dining options, along with a great swimming pool to hang out after the rafting. I will be back

Yelp
We went rafting with this outfit on Memorial day. Our guide Derek (sorry if I spelled wrong) struck a good balance of layed back and fun and knowledgeable and in control. I feel like he did an excellent job of involving us in the control of the raft but took control when needed. We seemed to be set up perfectly for each rapid and he briefed us on the each rapid and the route we were going to take as well as the emergency procedures. He did this without sounding like a bossy control freak. His knowledge of the history of the area was spot on. As someone that grew up in West Virginia and was required to take West Virginia history in middle school I can vouch that his information was accurate and delivered in an entertaining way.The equipment appeared to be in pretty good shape and about what you would expect for rental gear that gets used alot. We arrived at the end spot soaked, alive, and ready for a beer. Pretty much all you can ask for at the end of a rafting trip.

Yelp
Once in a lifetime experience whitewater rafting. I did the half day rapid run on the New River. Sam was an amazing guide and had the boat running like a well oiled machine. I felt safe at all times and was such a thrill going into those waves. Sam made the entire trip enjoyable and it was apparent: he just loves the water and has so much knowledge on paddling/rafting and was comfortable answering any questions as we go. This was my first time and thanks to the experience will definitely be returning to run Gauley River with Sam and the Adventure on the Gorge team!

Yelp
Adventures on the Gorge did a great job from start to finish. It is easy to book, was a wonderful experience, and professional and safe staff. Every boat on our trip had an experienced and very qualified guide that never put a person in the water. Our guide Neo took women with no experience down class V's and never broke a sweat, thanks so much Neo! Make sure you research difficulty of the trip and dangers associated with such beautiful but dangerous rivers. Highly suggest booking with Adventures on the Gorge and can't wait for my next visit to the New River Gorge!!!

Yelp
Great outfitter and Doug was a fantastic guide for our Lower New River tour... at 7' high this was a little more than a beginner trip but we all had a great time. Would love to try one of the other trips with this company

Yelp
Updating review: bumped from 5 stars to 3. Husband had Gauley duckie trip booked. This was the only reason he wanted to come here, to run the Gauley. Got to check in, was advised they weren't running the Gauley because "the water level was too low". They switched him back to the same river he had done previous day. There was no communiction prior to them cancelling the trip. Their competitor advised us that the river is never too low for Duckies and they were still running boats. We felt misled & are very disappointed with AOG at this time. Rafted the lower new today. I was terrified, but our guide Caveman made it a fun experience! Great thrilling rapids, but also some lazy paddling to relax with. Would definitely raft with them again. The added touch of drinks on the bus after the trip was super nice! We did the full day trip & lunch was thoughtfully curated. An overall enjoyable experience! Book with cody the caveman!

Yelp
I cant give 2.5 stars or I would. There are shady people working at this facility. Check in was easy and fine. We drove to our cabin (keep in mind for 4 people we paid well over 2000 dollars for lodging and the Gauley. ). I camped a lot in the past in a camper. This cabin was disgusting when we first walked in. I wanted to cry they had a sofa with stains all of it, bodily fluids who knows, dirt on the floor, oven had oil shit all of it. It smelled bad but my niece lite a AI root candle. The hot tug has never been cleaned, it was brown and smelled bad no smell of cleanliness!!!! The room wasn't bad the dead cockroach on the floor was not the nicest touch-even he passed being in double ZZ cabin. I checked my bed and wish I would have brought bug killer and my own blanket. There was a storm that night and the electricity was gone (28 hours) until we left, we were in the cabin with 160.00 worth of spoiled food in the disgusting fridge but trees were down and one tree almost hit a cabin near me I am so glad no one was hurt but power was out for almost the entire trip. When I get in my bed that night there was sand at the bottom so sheets weren't changed. I slept in my hoodie and sweatpants in 85 degrees. Also that night there was a storm. The rafting was excellent are guide had a huge beard. The only problem is I don't think they are supposed to bring 7 guests it was too many and hard to paddle. My husband picked the low scale so as not to terrify the kids the first time. We did level 4 and 5's before kids. Our kids are teenagers and were bored on the one he booked. The guide was good and very nice. My son is a history buff so he would have enjoyed the history guide. It looks like a great lodging area for little kids. playground. The band wasn't playing. Otherwise it might have been better if there wasn't a storm. My husband called after we left and no one called him back. It goes to show what Mickey Mouse operation is being ran. We continued on to our destination a beautiful cabin in Tennessee!
