We Took a Magical Family Trip to Norway During the Winter—How to Visit

"A pub and restaurant housed in a wooden building with a Viking-themed menu that offers a smorgasbord of traditional dishes — presented as a convivial, rustic option for enjoying local flavors in the fjord region." - Akash Kapur

Ægir Brewery – Flåm, Norway - Gastro Obscura

"In Norse mythology, Ægir is a sea giant, often mistaken for a god, who lives in a hall beneath the sea that is home to the souls of everyone who drowns. More importantly, the mythical creature is said to brew the best beer in the Nine Worlds. And that’s why they named this microbrewery and pub in Flåm for him. When you go to the center of Flåm, the first thing you may notice is a white, leafless tree. On closer inspection, you’ll see the tree is carved with faces of characters from Norse mythology and ravens. A path leads off from the tree to what looks like a large stave-church. This is the Ægir brewery. Inside the big, red double-doors is a spacious room with a bar at the back, where you can order beer, aquavit, or mead from the barkeep, who will pour the drinks from taps with antlers for levers. You can then enjoy your drink around a large fireplace at the tables and chairs made from driftwood, or on stone benches covered with sheepskin, while Nordic folk music plays in the background. Know Before You Go Near the bar is a wooden staircase that leads to a second floor with a dining room if you'd prefer to get a meal." - ringedfellow, Guthbrand

A must try in Flam! We ordered the Viking Plank and Pig Wing - it was an amazing good deal (given that we can try 6 different dishes in 1100 NOK, it can be costly, but the experience worths every penny) Would highly recommend fish soup and pulled goat, so good!!

We walked into Ægir BrewPub / Ægir Microbrewery in Flåm planning for beers and stayed for dinner much longer than expected. Right away, the place impresses—the building feels like a Viking lodge, dark wood tones, firelight, a sense of mythology mixed with cozy pub energy. We started with beers—flight after flight—settling in and watching the room fill. The bar downstairs is relaxed and social; people linger. Then upstairs is the restaurant, where the food holds its own. For dinner, I went for the spare ribs with mashed potatoes. The ribs were falling off the bone, sauced just right—not too heavy, not too sweet. The mashed potatoes were creamy and comforting. My partner had the salmon with potatoes, and another companion took the pork “wing” (a braised pork shank). The pork was meaty, rich, and satisfying. We washed it all down with a great red wine—solid pairing for the heavier plates. Service was steady. Because Ægir is busy and popular, expect some wait—but we didn’t feel rushed once seated. The staff seemed used to balancing beer lovers and dinner guests. We ended up spending hours there—first for the beer, then for dinner. It felt like part of the evening, not just a stop. Between the ambiance, the craft beers, and the strong food, Ægir delivered in a way few places do when expectations are high. If you’re in Flåm, this is a must-do—book ahead, come early, and let yourself settle in.

Dropped by the bar for dinner after a long day. Benjamin was so charming and attentive. My wife and I had the fish soup and spareribs. Both dishes were warm, hearty and satisfying. The beer tasting platter is fun but the Aegir India Pale Ale was sublime!

Google
A great option for a late dinner in Flåm, as choices are very limited. The beer selection was good. Try the IPA and the Amber. The fish soup had a decent spicy flavor, but the fish itself didn't taste very fresh. The lamb sausage was not bad

This is now my most favourite restaurants I've ever been too... Yes it's That good! Fantastic Norwegian Viking vibe, excellent service and the food and beer experience was just way too good! I am glad we had booked in advance or otherwise we would have struggled to find a table. Must go spot if you're in Flåm!

Google
Top notch spot for dinner. Despite being busy, service was quick. (I recommend booking a reservation.) We had salmon, lamb sausages and pork spare ribs then chocolate ganache for dessert. All were really good. It’s easy to see why the Brew Pub is so popular.

Ambience: What a unique venue. The interior is just mind blowing. So different and rooted in the culture . Every corner of the restaurant was different and unique. Loved the design. ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️ Food: Fantastic. Every dish was extremely delicious and well presented. ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️ Service: Excellent. Mr. Alex was in charge of our table and he was extremely warm and helpful. Every time he approached our table he had a big smile and was very attentive and kind. It took us a while to finalize the order but he was extremely patient with us . It felt like dinning at a friend’s house. Service was superb. ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️ Overall: It’s an epic place and everyone should try it atleast once.

Google
So much about this place we enjoyed. Great Viking style building and Viking atmosphere. Upstairs is for the restaurant but we just came to sample the beers. They offered flights so we were able to try different beers. They also offered seating around a circular fireplace in the center which was pretty cool. We sat in comfortable seats by the bar. This was one of our favorite breweries that we visited while we were driving through Norway. I would recommend this place if you are in Flam; also great service.

Yelp
Overall experience was good. A group of 4 had a night in Flåm and needed some food to eat. Among the options, we chose Ægir and was pleasantly surprised. Upon entering the premises, the ambiance was unique for the brewery/bar area. We were seated quickly in the upstairs area. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, and the food was surprisingly decent. Regarding prices, it seems like all prices in Norway are a bit more on the expensive side, but we all left the place with full stomachs. Drinks: good Food: good Service: great (our waiter cracked some jokes) If you are in Flåm and need a bite to eat with some drinks, not a bad place to stop by.

Yelp
We planned our entire weekend around getting to enjoy this restaurant and brewery. We got in on the VY/ Flamsbana from Bergen and then met some friends who were taking us to Borgund Stave Church and up to Stegastein before our stop for an early dinner here before getting on the 5:00PM Fjord Cruise to Gudvangen. I had seen this place featured all over TripAdvisor and knew we wanted to spend our afternoon eating and drinking here. Whelp, instead we walked into a place barely staffed(we had to call into the kitchen to get anyone out), just to be informed they weren't serving food. Nowhere online did they have anything about the kitchen being closed during the day. Seeing we NEEDED FOOD, we decided to go to the food trucks that lined the block just around the corner for food, but weren't allowed to bring it in to have with our beer. It was also beautiful outside that day, so we asked if we could take our flight outside. The bartender then had to pass it through a special window, stating we weren't allowed to take it out to the "Biergarten" ourselves. The whole situation was just annoying and frustrating. In the end, I enjoyed the food I DIDN'T get from here with one or two of the beers in my flight.

Yelp
What a nice dining experience. A little upscale menu but something for everyone incognito beef, pork, reindeer, salmon or vegetarian. The setting appears to be a Stave church very open with upstairs dining and downstairs bar dining. Definitely suggest getting a reservation. Food was great

Yelp
The best (and the only non-hotel restaurants) dinner location in Flam! It's a bar restaurant with the bar with cozy sitting in the ground floor, and the restaurant on the second floor. The food is absolutely delicious. We got the Ran, which is a fish soup dish. The soup itself tasted very much like a creamy Tom Yum soup, and the seasonal fish and mussels very fresh. The fish was a little on the dry side, but the foccacia paired extremely well with the soup. We also got the havamal, and the beef patty was very juicy and flavourful. The Viking plank seems to be a very popular dish, as it is a 5 course tasting menu paired with 5 different beers. Unfortunately we didn't get to try this one when we visited, but it looked great! The service is excellent. The waiter was very attentive, and took the time to split the soup to two bowls as he asked and we indicated that we would like to share it between the two of us. There isn't too much seating, so I can see that it could be crowded or difficult to find seats during peak season, so keep that in mind!

Yelp
There are really only a handful of dining options in Flåm, and this seems to be the most consistently recommended restaurant! This might've been my favorite meal during my entire time in Norway. The entire experience was exquisite, with unforgettably tasty dishes and excellent service. The atmosphere was cozy and the viking-themed decor made the experience quite memorable and unique. My partner and I ordered the tomato soup and the burger to share. The waiter asked the kitchen to cut the burger in half and portion out the soup into two separate bowls for us, which we greatly appreciated! The flavor of the tomato soup is reminiscent of a Thai-style soup (tom yum), which similarly uses tomato and coconut milk as primary ingredients. The flavors were well-balanced and the focaccia bread was the perfect vehicle to lather up the rich and creamy soup! The soup is labeled as medium spicy on the menu but I didn't really taste any spice. The burger was really delicious as well, but my favorite part of that dish was actually the roasted potatoes. The sriracha mayo paired nicely with the burger and the potatoes. Would definitely recommend giving this place a try if you're paying a visit to Flåm!

Yelp
The beer is good but far from the best microbrews ive sampled recently. Niki liked the rasberry beer she ordered. I taste it and to me the beer is washed out by the raspberry. It's OK I guess. I'm sure that they don't understand this but Mexicans really don't like to be referred to as taco. Maybe just calling it Lager Mexicano sounds better,. Also the male bartender was very rude about me not acknowledging the female bartenders welcome today. I simply did not hear her over the people talking and loud music. It's 12:35 and though it wasn't packed there were quite a few people inside.
google avatar

Penny H.

Yelp
We had the vegetarian 5 course meal paired with beers. What a wonderful treat. Would recommend to everyone. I didn't check and I'm sure some of it could be vegan. Check with the wait staff - who were all wonderful. Very authentic Norwegian decor and loved the stories about each menu item.
google avatar

Nikki L.

Yelp
Delicious food and wonderful service! Got a flight of beer downstairs while waiting for table. We started with chickpea cream, and for mains salmon and ribs. Loved the chickpeas! And mains were delicious too. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
We visited this warm and friendly brewery during a short stop in Flåm. The place has a great atmosphere like a Viking lodge. Rustic and warm. I tried the sampler but made my own- my favorites were the Porter and the Farmer's Ale. It was a great place to hang out on a chilly damp day. Would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
Great brewery in Flåm! The decor was straight out of an old time lodge. The servers were friendly. We ordered the Viking Plank, which consisted of 5 courses, each paired with a beer. There wasn't a bad dish! Our favorites were the soup and reindeer. The drinks complimented perfectly with their dish.
google avatar

Yelp
Great beer, great views of the fjord from the outdoor beer garden. Best place in Flam to relax and enjoy the views and brews!

Yelp
This was such a pleasant experience! My husband and I stopped in Flam for lunch and went to this brewpub - it was on our list to go do based on research we did on the trip. We were not getting our typical craft beer quota and luckily this place had all the craft beer!! we both got sours - I got a Raspberry Brut (tart but delicious and refreshing) and Jared got the Honey Bee smoked honey gose (definitely sour but could taste the honey coming through, very tasty). For food, I got the Muspeheim - (Pita bread served with beetroot hummus, Merguez (lamb) sausage from Haugen Farm, salad, pumpkin seeds and tomato salsa) and Jared got the Urd (arbequed pulled young goat from Haugen Farm served in a brioche bun with salad, pickled cucumber, homemade caramelized red onion compote with beer from Ægir Brewery and BBQ mayonnaise.) both were delicious, came out quickly, and were very filling. I was not expecting such a great experience here due to the fact a cruise ship was docked in the harbor and I thought it'd be packed with tourists off of the boat but we were seated quickly, the food and beer was delicious, and the wait staff was so nice!! Also - we left our camera there and were freaking out. We called and they immediately went to confirm that someone found it and it was waiting for us when we drove back. Such good customer experience.

Yelp
Nice brewery, expensive drinks as Norway is costly. Expect to pay at least $15 USD/GBP per drink. This brewery has their own beer and gin. They also offer other varieties. Since I was here, I tried a flight of their beer and their own gin. The beer was pretty good. The lager was nice and crisp, and the amber tasted good. I also liked each of their gins. They offer 3 different types of gins. The one I remember is called "happy cat" which is a citrus-flavored gin. The atmosphere is cool. You can order at the bar and sit downstairs on the ground level. The upper level is for the restaurant. I did not try the food. All in all, I liked the drinks offered here. It's just very expensive as is the par for Norway. If you're in the area and want a decent beer or cocktail, I say give it a try and hang out and enjoy the environment.
google avatar

Dawn P.

Yelp
Great service, friendly staff and large selection of beers!! Great decor with a great step down fireplace seating area. Not many choices nearby but definitely recommend this great brewery. Come to Flåm and drink some great beer!!
google avatar

Rachel O.

Yelp
We were greeted right away by the friendly bartender & shown to a table upstairs in the restaurant area. We were sat right by the bannister which gave us a great view of the gorgeous downstairs. Great burger - with a gluten-free bun to boot. Also gluten-free beer. Loved the viking vibe so much. Furs covered wooden chairs & benches, all surrounding a fireplace in the center. If we had more time we would've lounged downstairs after our meal. We also really enjoyed watching the ferries come & go right outside the restaurant. Added bonus. We would love to come back. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Leslie R.

Yelp
We really enjoyed a delicious dinner here! One of the best on our trip. Great service too. Beautiful interior.
google avatar

Melissa H.

Yelp
Excellent beer, food and atmosphere! We had dinner reservations and enjoyed a beer downstairs by the fire before and after dinner. They had a large selection of beer. They were kind enough to let me order off the kids menu because I really wanted dessert too!
google avatar

Amelia M.

Yelp
Wow, best meal of the trip! The food was Norwegian with a modern twist and very tasty. Only Flaamsbrygga hotel guests can make a reservation. Anyone else must queue up outside and wait for one of the coveted tables upstairs (downstairs is the pub which I believe only serves beer - no food). We arrived early were able to get one of those tables - there were probably only a dozen tables of varying sizes. The menu is obtained via QR code on your phone. We each ordered the Aegir Viking Plank which is a 5 course beer and food plank: salmon tartare with pickled fennel green peas herb mayo and Asian style dressing, slow cooked deer with red onion compote and blueberry cream, creamy tomato and coconut soup with seasonal fish and mussels, braised shoulder of local lamb with creamy mashed potatoes and roasted apple puree, and dark chocolate cake with porter ganache. The salmon and soup were my favorites! The food was paired beautifully with a matching beer flight. We also ordered a burger made of deer and beef with goat cheese on a toasted brioche bun with roasted potatoes (children's menu doesn't mention the cheese but it does come with cheese) and Swedish meatballs with mashed potato; both were served with a side salad. The chocolate ganache cake was so good we ordered a full size for dessert and a toffee mouse loke. A truly memorable meal!

Mark K.

Yelp
We had been told this was a must do while in Flåm and we're looking forward to having some beers The host turned us away for not having reservations on a Saturday night at 8:30 with half of the seats empty Don't bother going there as they don't want your business It's a shame because the place looks like it could be fun but they don't know what hospitality is
google avatar

Jon J.

Yelp
This is probably the best choice in Flom. It has a kitschy , touristy sort of vibe, but we were well taken care of. The food was fine, as were the drinks.
google avatar

Aa G.

Yelp
One of a few restaurants in the immediate area of Flåm. The beers were good. I had the Påskesøme Hefeweizen which was great and wife had the blonde ale (it tasted a bit hoppy for my liking). I can WHOLLY recommend the venison burger and the short ribs plates. The meats were incredible. The bun of the burger was lacking though. Also, the potatoes for each plate were only par. But the aoli was good and the sauces for the short ribs paired nicely with the corn mash. Not a ton of food but enough to satisfy day-traveling weary passengers.
google avatar

Eric J.

Yelp
Probably one of the coolest pubs we've ever seen! Wish they served authentic food or pub snacks with the beer flights because we were hungry after the train ride from Voss, but I'm not complaining. The whole place is fairytale gorgeous. Will definitely get drunk here again!
google avatar

Karen D.

Yelp
Came here during a trip to Norway and saw good reviews after the train ride. We went for the 5-beer sampler first as we waited for a table. Excellent descriptions and choice of 5 beers! I enjoyed all but one that was too hoppy for my taste. We were then lead upstairs to our table. The ambiance here is excellent - so rustic and intriguing. We had the viking sampler to share, and it was plenty for 2! There was meat, seafood, and even dessert included in this delicious sampler. Service was on point. Overall a great experience!
google avatar

Eivind S.

Yelp
Had a slightly disappointing Viking plank after biking down from Hallingskeid It was ok, but I didn't feel it was anything special: Both the seafood dishes had scampi - which is not in any way local to Norway The bread was slightly dry Everything was served at once such that the fourth dish was lukewarm when you got to it Would likely order from the a la carte menu next time that is both more affordable and hopefully better

Katie K.

Yelp
Was visiting Flåm for a graduation trip and ate here with a small group - just a couple minutes walk from our hostel. Very nice environment inside, and glad they offer a beer flight to sample, but do wish you could mix and match the different beer options. I am vegetarian and got the chickpea burger which was good, and later we split the chocolate cake which was even better! Kind of pricy but still decent food and nice to sit down after a long day of hiking and exploring. Looked like it can get pretty busy so try to make a reservation!
google avatar

Veronica J.

Yelp
The place is very atmospheric - Viking-style design with a fireplace at the centre that heats the entire room. Stylised furniture really takes you back a few centuries ago, and the beer selection is nice if expensive. Upstairs there is a restaurant, but we didn't go there. I would recommend to check it out just for the experience!
google avatar

Kathy H.

Yelp
Great place to drink beer and eat dinner. Make a reservation! The building is very fun and food was delicious.
google avatar

Chun P.

Yelp
Yup, its quite pricey, but its Norway. Yup, its quite touristy, but its in a retro Viking home.... so AWESOME! Yup, craft beer in America is a cheaper, but its Norway. Yup, I'm biased, I'm a fan of the TV show Vikings on the History Channel. My 265kr/$35.33 Pork Shank dinner was huge and absofuckinglutely delicious. Wife's 198kr/$26 Vegetarian Platter...she loved it! Our .5 liter beers averaged 100kr/$13.33, but they were good and its Norway. This was our one big splurge in Norway, but keep in mind tax and tip is already included in prices. The Norwegian Brunette Bartender was very friendly, and the rest of the staff almost as much so but not quite. The ambiance can't be beat and is probably a once in a life time experience. If you can't afford the food, at least come in for a beer by the fire...there's really no other nightlife in Flam anyway. (Note: At time of this review, the US dollar was up 50% against the Norway kroner...$1 = 7.5kr vs $1 = 5kr just a couple years ago)
google avatar

Kimberly N.

Yelp
Had the Ragnarok ribs and Norwegian fish soup. Generous portions and great taste! Very lovely servers too who are really attrbtjve!
google avatar

Dan N.

Yelp
This place is a bit of a tourist trap but a very fun location to dine with the faux Viking set up. Decor was pretty amazing. We tried the fish soup and the reindeer burger which were both okay. Unfortunately we both had upset stomachs afterwards.. If it had only been one of us I wouldn't be sure it was the food but yeah, we both felt sick after eating here. Dinner was expensive but we were really happy they were open late at night. I would probably try somewhere else next time because of the food quality issue. They only let hotel guests use the wifi password which is kind of silly & inconvenient for international travelers. We are always grateful to restaurants that let us on their network since we can't use our phones here. Don't you want us to instagram your restaurant? ;)

Blair W.

Yelp
We went early and got in right away. I was glad we did. Food was very good, beef fell off the bone. The decor is worth a stop for beer if nothing else!
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
The ambiance and Viking atmosphere was fantastic. I had the pork shank and it was cooked to perfection. We especially liked the beer selection and the huge fireplace as the centerpiece to the restaurant.
google avatar

Tabitha R.

Yelp
Amazing beer and great food! We were really hungry after a long day of driving and ordered the Viking Middag (Viking dinner - basically a giant sampler platter of meat). We were stuffed! The ribs were awesome and so was the pork shank. I also had a really great salad with goat cheese that was a huge portion! We had a ton of great beer that was actually not that expensive considering it's local and how much beer costs in Norway. Super super friendly service and really cosy inside.
google avatar

Yelp
A viking brewpub restaurant located in the center of Flam village. The architecture of the building is quite interesting and worth visiting. It's based on old viking architecture. Inside, in the middle of the main floor you will find a huge fireplace where you can chat and enjoy your beer. There are also a few different sitting areas with raw beautiful wood around the outside walls. There were a couple of us who weren't drinking at the moment, and so we were happy to find they had a few non-alcoholic beer options that tasted quite good. For dinner, I tried their oven baked "Gravlax" Ran. It was served with a fresh salad, creamy dill sauce and dill potatoes. My husband got their Spareribs Ragnarok, marinated in AEgir BBQ sauce and served with homemade coleslaw, amandine potatoes and AEgir dressing. The plates were big, very filling and delicious. The service was excellent as well. Note that the restaurant closes at 9:00PM so make sure to come before that time if you want to eat. As for the pub, they are open until late but don't serve any food.
google avatar

Kelvin C.

Yelp
This viking style brewery/restaurant is pretty awesome place considering it's in the middle of nowhere. It is a godsend for people staying in Flam, or even if you're just passing by as there are not many good options to eat/drink in the area. They have a nice selection of beer to choose from, the seasonal saison being my favorite of the bunch. The food and drink is quite expensive but definitely on par with Norway prices. The reindeer sandwich I had was pretty tasty with the berry creamcheese aioli and the pork shank was cooked nicely. Make sure you check the hours, I don't think the yelp hours are correct. 4 stars for a solid place to eat and drink craft beer in Flam.

Yelp
In our one night stay in Flåm, this was the only restaurant we could find and so my co-worker and I chose to come for dinner. It opened at 6:00 PM so we hung out in the lobby of our hotel (right next door) and then headed in. It's a much larger place than either of us expected. A decent sized bar at the back of the restaurant with a sunken fireplace lounge area that was circular. It felt very Nordic as the whole place was made of logs and the lounge by the fireplace had furry covers for the seat cushions. Since we had nowhere else to go, we chose to relax by the fire for awhile after a day of traveling and got a couple of beers. Very few people at that time of the year so aside from one other group and a couple, we had that area to ourselves. Strangely romantic for co-workers, but we went with it. We headed up around 7:30 to the restaurant on the second level and when we asked for a table of 2, they acted a bit flustered that we didn't have a reservation. Looking around, there were exactly 4 tables sat in a room that had about 50 tables. Were these all going to fill? They sat us in between two tables that were already sat and the next group sat at the one other table by us. The restaurant didn't ever get close to half full so I'm not why the fuss about not having a reservation? I knock a star off for that. I had the venison burger, potatoes, and there was some sort of sweet purple stuff on the burger and on the side that actually tasted pretty good. It was pretty good for grass fed. I felt extremely full afterwards though so we didn't opt for dessert. My co-worker had some sort of fish that he said was only okay. We finished around 8:30 and went back down to the fire pit as again, there is absolutely nothing else to do and it was pouring rain outside. So we sat by the fire and drank until around 10:00. It sure made for a better place to hang out than sitting in our hotel rooms!
google avatar

Jacqueline T.

Yelp
We enjoyed a lunch here during our Norway in a Nutshell tour. We got the pulled chicken sandwich and the pork neck sandwich. Both were very delicious. I think we liked the pork neck a bit more, but the pulled chicken was also good. The bread they were served on was phenomenal! We loved the decor as well!

Yelp
You probably wouldn't expect to find an amazing microbrewery in a touristy cruise port of no more than 1,000 residents, but this Viking-themed brewpub located just steps from the cruise dock in Flåm definitely does not disappoint. From the large selection of brews (they make more than a dozen, and have most of them on tap here), to the super old-feeling Viking lodge (I had know exactly what a traditional Viking lodge looked like inside, but this is about how I pictured one before I visited), to the very friendly staff (they'll answer any questions you have and let you try a few before you order), to the comfy seating (couches and tables) and free wifi, we loved our experience at Ægir Bryggeri. All of the different brews we tried were great, and while everything is a bit pricey (although not for Norway), the quality was worth the extra cost over beer on the ship. Despite being located right in the middle of the touristy atmosphere of Flåm's port, this is probably the one non-touristy business near the pier (they sell this highly-respected beer all over the country). So, whether you are a fan of local beer, or you just want to take a load off and enjoy some fast, free wifi before you get back on the ship, be sure to visit this Viking Brewpub in Flåm!

Samantha R.

Yelp
WOW. My steak dinner was incredible. It came with potatoes and vegetables and even those were above and beyond. Norway sure knows how to cook! The restaurant itself is has nice atmosphere and really cool places to sit and have a drink downstairs too. When I walked by earlier they were also doing a beer tasting!
google avatar

Christina G.

Yelp
Located just a few steps away from the Flamsbrygga Hotel. Cool Viking-like atmosphere. The brewpub is on ground level, and you have to see a bartender or host for them to take you upstairs to the restaurant. The venison burger was good and came with a berry cheese, which seems weird but really worked. The seafood soup was just what I wanted after a cold day on the fjords. Service was good, and the beer flight was good.

Yelp
Truly appallingly rude staff! Made to wait for over five minutes at the bar (another gentleman had been standing there even longer when we arrived) just to inquire about a table. Abrupt waiter tried to serve others first despite there being a clear line - redirected to the gentleman who was there first and was rude to him in serving and in requesting payment. Finally after even longer wait was told there would be a forty minute wait for a table so we asked if instead we could eat at one of the many downstairs tables which were available. Told that that was illegal!! (Not true, we've travelled in the area for sometime and have lived in Norden as well... he just thought he could lie to us because we were English speakers in a tourist town.) Food is obscenely priced here even for Norway so it wasn't a difficult decision to walk out and find a humbler but more pleasant place to eat. Would add that the restaurant and bar areas are very dingy and dark so better suited for a hyggelig/mysig/cosy winter than summer dining.

All of the beers were solid but none are spectacular. It's a tourist spot for sure but the seating is awesome and the space is really nice. We would go back just for the vibes.

Yelp
Wanted a nice sit down lunch to break from the full travel day, but the menu is SO small, and there was a wait, we ended up bailing as soon as we finished our flight of beer (which was good, worth a stop in just for that). There are plenty of food stands in the square area between the docks and here, you won't go hungry.

Yelp
The beer is the reason to come here! There is quite a selection of craft beers available from this brewery. The interior of the brewery is quite rustic, dark, moody, and subsequently conducive to sampling all the wonderful beers at this brewery. When you enter, you will immediately notice a circular seating area, below ground level, with a large fireplace in the middle. While this is a wonderful spot to sit with friends for conversation, your clothes will end up smelling a little smoky. As a result, I would suggest wearing casual clothes and nothing too fancy. In spending one night at the adjoining Flamsbrygga hotel, we ate dinner and drank their beer after a day of kayaking and hiking. There was quite a list of beers to try, with the lighter beers being around 5% alcohol, and ending with some of the stronger beers at 10% alcohol. I stuck with the lighter items, including the very tasty blonde ale, the amber ale, and their IPA. In Flam, there are a limited number of dining options. While I did not love my meal at the brewery, it appeared to be better than the other options available. We shared a salmon salad and a pizza. The pizza was quite large and a bit doughy. The salmon salad was better than the pizza. If your travels bring you to Flam, this is definitely a worthwhile stop along the way. The beer is really what shines here. Add the rustic atmosphere of the building to their wonderful beer and you have a great evening in store. In summary, four stars for the beer, four stars for the atmosphere, two stars for the food, hence the three star review.

Yelp
World class beer is happening here. The limited release cherry wheat and the IPA were the stars here. The exterior looks like a traditional Norwegian stave church. The interior is highlighted by a circular seating area with a fire pit in the middle with other seating available all around. Don't miss this place if you come to Flåm and love a good brew. Try the sampler of beers to discover which one you like the best. No need for reservations.

Yelp
Had the tasting menu: 5 types of beer and 5 different dishes. I really like the idea behind it. Mussels and shrimps: mussels weren't good but I really liked the shrimp; it didn't taste shrimpy nor fishy which I like; I also like the texture. Smoked reindeer: Never a meat fan so this wasn't my favorite, but with the blueberry creme fraiche sauce and caramelized union it was good! Fish soup: Decent, nothing special and the ingredients were repeated. I expected the salmon piece to be bigger Pork Shank: HIGHLIGHT of the night. Served with mashed potato, it was delicious, soft and instantly melted in my mouth. so good. Chocolate cake: Very thick and rich chocolate cake/muffin served with whipped cream. Decent. Order Pork Shank!!

Yelp
Atrocious service, sat at the bar for over 2 hours waiting for a table that was promised and never delivered. Server with a beard at the front was smug about denying us a table, did not remove parties that had already finished. Do not come here at all.

Yelp
Worst tourist trap! Would avoid at all costs. My husband and I wanted to get a bite on our one night stay in Flåm. We stopped by around 8 and the lady said there was a wait for a table for food. They didn't take reservations and their last seating for dinner would be at 10:15 she also said they would not have a wait at that time and to just show up. We got back at 10:10 sharp racing along the way from a long hike.... guess what... the lady now at the bar says " o so sorry we will closed early cause there were not too many customers ". We hadn't eaten all day and there were no other places in town serving food. We asked to speak to the manager and of course " he's here but we can't find him at this time". These people are not a true restaurant they don't care about customers.... they are just another tourist trap out to make money!! ( apparently all of Flåm is such) I would avoid totally!!!

Yelp
I had lunch fit for a Viking in between Norway in a Nutshell stops last week. It's a brewpub/gastropub/microbrewery in the middle of the tiny harbor area of Flam. The ground level is the bar/tasting area, and upstairs seating is where you can order and eat food. As of when I went, you need to go up to the bar to request a table. It was expensive AF for a pulled pork sandwich, a beer, and dessert, but hey, that's Norway for you. And besides, the food was really quite good and the service was on point. I went on a solo trip, but this would be a really fun place to drink and eat with some friends!
