African Ubuntu Backpackers

Camped there for 6 nights, directly in the garden of the house! Big and comfy living rooms, very well equipped communal kitchen, beautiful views of the ocean from the balconies Nice location, just outside the city center, in a quiet area 1 minute walk to the beach !

Stayed in the dormitories. Nice scenic view towards the shoreline in the distance. You can check out the condition of the waves if you want to surf. Well stock kitchen equipment, great african artwork on the walls. Nice decor. Friendly people, and can advise you when and where to get the best deals. Everyone shared the free braai/BBQ fire. Safe free street parking outside. I drank the tap water without any ill effect. Lots to explore in the town. My bunk jostled and jersey with every movement from the person above. One of the dogs took an instant disliking to me.

The most peaceful and humble place I've ever been if a person wth peace of mind ull love this place There is no other place I'll book while in Jeff's coz I found home....

Awesome place to stay, perfect for surfers looking to score some great waves. Great atmosphere with a really cool group of people working there

I honestly loved everything about this place. A generally safe area with family friendly vibes, and within walking distance to the beach. Surfer's village is quite a bit of a walk away (30 minutes), but totally do-able if you're into a nice walk. Otherwise, you may have to rely on Uber/taxi service, which can be hit or miss. The hostel itself had such great vibes - both the staff and guests made for a memorable time. Only downsides are related to questionable cleanliness and no secured locker space.

Pros: - Many common areas to socialize. - Clean and friendly staff. Cons: - It is located quite far from main beach (around 35min walk). - No door in the dorm I stayed. - No sockets to charge things in upper bed. - Beds are even smaller than normal hostel beds

An incredible place to stay, right next to the best waves in the world, very safe, so affordable and walking distance to everything you need in terms of food, laundry, shopping. I loved my time at Ubuntu and will be coming back to stay next year! Kiera was a fantastic and warm host, making me feel so welcome and part of the community of Jbay. Daryn and Greg were great surf buddies and always willing to share their knowledge. Cannot recommend this place enough

There are many spots to hang out. Ubuntu has a nice garden and it’s across the road from the beach. J-Bays best restaurant Nina’s and the supermarket is just around the corner. There’s a good kitchen if you want to cook. They have a movie room for rainy days. And when the sun is up they’ll arrange your surf lesson or other activities. The staff are very nice and helpful. I’d love to come back to Ubuntu.
